Abstract Pollen and radiometric investigations of the buried organic deposits in the Dziguta River, south-east of Sukhumi (western Caucasus), provided a detailed sequence of climatic events in that area in an interval from ca. 50 to 9 ka BP. The identified climatic episodes show a satisfactory correlation with the existing records for the marine deposits of eastern Mediterranean Sea and continental records for south-eastern Europe and East European Plain, suggesting a coherent pattern of climatic oscillations.
