Abstract
This presentation intends to examine, through the correspondence of the Antwerp humanist and bishop Laevinius Torrentius (Liévin van der Beke), how a mental representation, the "image of Rome", as it has been defined by historiography over the last forty years, is manifested; it focuses more specifically on the expression of this "idea" in the polemic that opposed the bishop to his chapter on the question of episcopal jurisdiction in the aftermath of the Council of Trent.
