Antonella Alimento and Koen Stapelbroek edited a collection of essays devoted to an in essence interdisciplinary topic: the regulation of trade between private persons across borders in the eighteenth century. Researchers have become increasingly aware of the interplay between geopolitical determinants on the one hand, and commercial, political and legal discourse as an argumentative repository, on the other hand. In the latter sense, the present collective volume constitutes a follow-up to an earlier work edited by Antonella Alimento on trade, war and neutrality in the seventeenth-century Mediterranean.
