Abstract
Oxford’s English Dictionary puts it as such: ‘Numismatics’ is ‘the study of coins and medals, especially from an archaeological or historical standpoint’. Sounds fair, at least to us, archaeologists. Indeed, interdisciplinary research is a basic requirement for both sciences, archaeology and numismatics. But in many cases it appears that numismatics are rather directed towards the – so to speak - other side of the coin.
