    In this talk we show that any spherically symmetric spacetime admits locally a maximal spacelike slicing. The above condition is reduced to solve a decoupled system of first order quasi-linear partial differential equations. The solution may be accomplished analytical or numerically. We provide a general procedure to construct such maximal slicings. 4 pages. Accepted for publication in Journal of Physics: Conference Series, Proceedings of the Spanish Relativity Meeting ERE2009

    [EN] Nowadays, the name of Antonio Flórez has a significant value for us. In both aspects of his work as an architect –school buildings and intervention in remarkable monuments– drawing played a predominant role. In this paper, we shall discuss the far-reaching import of this fact.To the interest of his professional drawings, in line with the idea of architecture that he proposed, it is necessary to add the esthetic value of his manner of wielding his pencil. In Flórez, we always find the architect drawing –thought and action–; but, at the same time, there is also the act of the artist (a figure he always felt close to, and whose training he held was rooted in that of the architect).Even given his uniqueness and his skill in drawing and watercolour, Flórez is nevertheless a clear testimony of what the practice of drawing represented for the architects trained at the Madrid School of Architecture, in the first decades of the 20th century.

    This report summarizes the objectives and evaluation of the SemEval 2015 task on the sentiment analysis of figurative language on Twitter (Task 11). This is the first sentiment analysis task wholly dedicated to analyzing figurative language on Twitter. Specifically, three broad classes of figurative language are considered: irony, sarcasm and metaphor. Gold standard sets of 8000 training tweets and 4000 test tweets were annotated using workers on the crowdsourcing platform CrowdFlower. Participating systems were required to provide a fine-grained sentiment score on an 11-point scale (-5 to +5, including 0 for neutral intent) for each tweet, and systems were evaluated against the gold standard using both a Cosinesimilarity and a Mean-Squared-Error measure.

    Abstract Barranc de la Boella is made up of several open-air late Early Pleistocene archaeological sites (Pit 1, La Mina and El Forn) the formation of which is related to a deltaic sedimentary environment. Its age makes it a key site for studying the behavior of the early hominin groups of the Iberian Peninsula and western Europe and the ecological context in which they developed. At La Mina locality, three archaeostratigraphic levels have been identified, with level 2 being the richest in terms of the archaeological remains recovered. It exhibits high taxonomic diversity, with the most common taxa belonging to open and partially open habitats, although aquatic and riparian taxa have also been identified. Carnivore remains are present, although scarce. Coprolites from a hyaenid have also been found. Both hominin and carnivore activity has been documented at the site. Evidence of carnivore activity suggests at least one bone-cracking carnivore had access to the assemblage. The anatomical ratios employed suggest that La Mina was formed at a time of high competition (intra and/or inter-specific), with a high number of predators in this ecological context. Anthropic activity in a highly competitive context might suggest that these hominin groups had a high degree of control over the environment and over local resources, as has been shown at other Early Pleistocene sites.

    This study presents an overview of the development of gender archaeologies in local academies across Europe, from the initial efforts in Norway in the early 1970s, to the founding of the multinational Archaeology and Gender in Europe (AGE) working group in 2009. In addition, the study seeks to show the scope of gender archaeology once contributions from different traditions in different languages are included, and to provide comparative historiographies for those European countries where gender archaeology is now a major strand of research. We hope that innovative approaches to the study of gender in the past will emerge in the future thanks to fruitful encounters between regional trends and developments.

    Abstract This report proposes a refined method to date archaeological gold samples based on the Tafel analysis of the ascending part of voltammetric curves corresponding to the oxidation of surface flakes of gold in contact with hydrochloric acid aqueous electrolyte. This allows estimating the equilibrium potential of gold oxidation correcting for irreversibility effects. This equilibrium potential can be correlated with the coverage of adsorbed oxygen species and hence the estimated age of the gold samples. A satisfactory potential/time calibration graph was constructed from a set of archaeological samples including two sets of samples from the Mapungubwe Gold Collection, South Africa (1200–1290 CE) and Santa Llucia, Alcala de Xivert in Spain (dated back 600-550 BCE) sites. The dated samples come not only from different continents, but their ages also cover more than 3000 years.

    Textbook Question Answering is a complex task in the intersection of Machine Comprehension and Visual Question Answering that requires reasoning with multimodal information from text and diagrams. For the first time, this paper taps on the potential of transformer language models and bottom-up and top-down attention to tackle the language and visual understanding challenges this task entails. Rather than training a language-visual transformer from scratch we rely on pre-trained transformers, fine-tuning and ensembling. We add bottom-up and top-down attention to identify regions of interest corresponding to diagram constituents and their relationships, improving the selection of relevant visual information for each question and answer options. Our system ISAAQ reports unprecedented success in all TQA question types, with accuracies of 81.36%, 71.11% and 55.12% on true/false, text-only and diagram multiple choice questions. ISAAQ also demonstrates its broad applicability, obtaining state-of-the-art results in other demanding datasets. Accepted for publication as a long paper in EMNLP2020

    We describe a new species of Pseudotriarthron Normand, 1938 from the iberian peninsula. Specimens of the type series are from Diapiro de la Rosa (Jumilla, Murcia). The genus Pseudotriarthron was created by Normand in 1938 for P. numidicum , to separate it from genus Triarthron Markel, 1840. Wollaston had previously created in 1857 the genus Stereus for S. cercyonides . Triarthron thurepalmi (Israelson, 1978) subsequently was described. Daffner (1983) unified the three species, but did so under the genus Stereus , previously occupied by Stereus Mannerheim, 1846 and therefore unusable. Three species now grouped besides that described in the genus Pseudotriarthron Normand, 1938, which has not be used again. Pseudotriarthron hispanicum n. sp. shares the set of characters that typify the genre. At present only three species are known: P. cercyonides (Wollaston, 1857), P. numidicum Normand, 1938 y P. thurepalmi (Israelson, 1978). Of these, only P. thurepalmi is well characterized, since the Types of the other two are lost and no other specimens are known, so that we have only the original descriptions. However it is possible to clearly separate Pseudotriarthron hispanicum n. sp. not only from of Pseudotriarthron thurepalmi but also from P. cercyonides and P. numidicum based on the morphological features detailed in the Discussion.

    Authors: L. R. Fyffe; Cees R. van Staal; P. Valverde-Vaquero; Vicki McNicoll;

    The Stanley Brook Granite on Grand Manan Island has yielded an Early Cambrian U-Pb zircon age of 535 ± 2 Ma. The granite was emplaced into sedimentary rocks of the Flagg Cove Formation of the Castalia Group, proving that the latter is no younger than Early Cambrian. Previous dating of detrital zircons from the Flagg Cove Formation limits its maximum depositional age to be no older than 574 ± 7 Ma. The intrusive age of the Stanley Brook Granite is essentially identical to the 539 ± 3 Ma age obtained previously from dacitic tuff of the Priest Cove Formation, suggesting a comagmatic relationship between the two. The contact between the Flagg Cove and Priest Cove formations is invariably faulted. However, the consanguineous relationship between the Priest Cove Formation and Stanley Brook Granite suggests that the Priest Cove Formation was deposited on the Flagg Cove Formation. This proposed stratigraphic relationship supports the interpretation that the tuffaceous and volcaniclastic sedimentary rocks of the Priest Cove Formation represent a distal facies of the mafic flows and fragmental volcanic rocks of the Ross Island Formation. The age of the Stanley Brook Granite is consistent with the interpretation that Mesoproterozoic (?) to Neoproterozoic platformal carbonate rocks of the Brookville terrane represent basement to Neoproterozoic volcanic rocks of the New River terrane. RÉSUMÉ L’âge U-Pb sur zircon du granite du ruisseau Stanley, sur l’île Grand Manan, se situerait à environ 535 ± 2 Ma et remonterait au début du Cambrien. Ce granite a été mis en place dans les roches sédimentaires de la Formation de Flagg Cove du groupe de Castalia, ce qui établirait que cette dernière formation date tout au plus du début du Cam-brien. Les travaux de datation précédents des zircons détritiques de la Formation de Flagg Cove ont fixé l’âge maximal de la sédimentation à 574 ± 7 Ma, tout au plus. Pour l’essentiel, l’âge de l’intrusion du granite du ruisseau Stanley correspond à l’âge de 539 ± 3 Ma déjà déterminé pour le tuf dacitique de la Formation de Priest Cove, ce qui donnerait à penser qu’il y a une relation comagmatique entre les deux. La zone de contact entre les formations de Flagg Cove et de Priest Cove est pratiquement toujours faillée. Toutefois, l’origine commune de la Formation de Priest Cove et du granite du ruisseau Stanley porte à croire que la sédimentation de la Formation de Priest Cove s’est superposée à la Formation de Flagg Cove. Ce lien au plan stratigraphique viendrait corroborer l’interprétation voulant que les roches sédimentaires tufacées et volcanoclastiques de la Formation de Priest Cove sont de fait un faciès éloigné des coulées mafiques et des roches volcanoclastiques de la Formation de Ross Island. L’âge établi pour le granite du ruisseau Stanley va dans le sens de l’interprétation voulant que les roches carbonatées dans la succession de plateformes du Mésoprotérozoïque (?) au Néoprotérozoïque du terrane de Brookville forment le socle des roches volcaniques du Néoprotérozoïque du terrane de New River. AbstractThe notion of Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) has brought to discussion some of the principles established in early international agreements such as the 1972 Convention, where importance is attributed to a larger ample of assets and values. The HUL approach has been applied to the World Heritage Site Cuenca in Ecuador. It is recognised by values revealed on its settlement, buildings and culture but adequate protection is reduced to the second. This research aims to develop a strategy to integrate components beyond buildings including values that involve a wider scope of stakeholders. The research aims to identify eight elements; geomorphology, environment, hydrology, urban planning, historical cartographic review, land uses, symbolic and iconic images of the city, and finally intangible aspects. Those elements are then mapped as layers of information. This creates a supporting graphical tool to visualise studies which use information gathered from several sources and existing databases. The studies...

[ES] El nombre de Antonio Flórez nos llega hoy con pertinente valor. En las dos vertientes de su quehacer como arquitecto, las construcciones escolares y la intervención en notables conjuntos patrimoniales, el dibujo desempeñó un destacado papel, cuyo alcance abordamos en este escrito.Al interés de sus dibujos profesionales, coherentes con la idea de arquitectura que proponía, hay que añadir el valor plástico de su acción gráfica. Si en Flórez encontramos siempre el dibujar del arquitecto —pensamiento y acción—, se da también en él el hacer del artista (figura a la que siempre se sintió próximo y cuya formación entendía arraigada con la del arquitecto).Aun dentro de su singularidad y de su habilidad en el dibujo y la acuarela, Flórez es claro testimonio de lo que la práctica del dibujo representó en los arquitectos formados en la Escuela de Madrid en las primeras décadas del siglo XX.
