Västergarn is a medieval settlement situated on the west coast of the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. It has for a long time been the focus of study for researchers due to its cultural heritage in regards of its church, rampart and archaeological remains of a settlement dating to the Early Middle Ages. The University of Uppsala conducted excavations at the site during 2005–2013 which have led to large amounts of archaeological material which enabled several theses being written about the place. This thesis aims to study metal dress accessories from Västergarn and the people behind these artifacts who lived there during the early medieval period. Gender identity, ethnicity and cultural belonging will be addressed. The main part of the thesis focuses on typology and chronology. This will be achieved by a morphological study of the material. In addition to this, an ArcGis study is conducted to study distribution patterns in the settlement. The conclusion is that dress accessories allow different conclusions on the population of Västergarn. In terms of gender, it is argued that both men and women were present, albeit artefacts of male gender dominate the assemblages. The majority of the material in terms of ethnicity and cultural identity can be attributed to a Gotlandic tradition, while some dress accessories seem to come from abroad, to the Slavonic areas and other regions in the Baltic Sea. Also, oriental influences can be seen, mainly in regard to the decorated belt mounts. in conclusion, the result of this thesis indicates that two separate groups, both Gotlanders and non-Gotlanders were active in Västergarn during the early Middle Ages which is visible in the two churches, the Baltic ware pottery and the form of dress accessories people wore at the time.

I uppsatsen diskuterar jag vad som drev Folksam som uppdragsgivare i byggprocessens av bolagets nya kontorshus vid Skanstull och Farsta på 60-talet. Ledningen beslöt nämligen att använda 1% av byggkostnaderna för inredning och utsmyckning som vid nya offentliga byggnader, trots att Folksam är ett privat bolag. Folksam hade en stark tillväxt under efterkrigstiden då Sveriges ekonomi var stark. Efterkrigstiden optimism och framtidstro smittade också av sig på 50-talets formspråk, vilket syns i inredningen och utsmyckningen av Folksamhuset vid Skanstull. I Folksamhuset vid Skanstull finns än idag en väl sammanhållen 60-tals miljö med svenskt konsthantverk och konst. Konstnären Sven Erixson var tillsammans med Barbro Nilsson, då VD för Märta Måås-Fjättertrsöm ansvariga för färgsättningen i Folkahuset. För att diskutera gestaltningen och verkets placering i rummet analyserar jag Sven Erixons mosaikvägg och ett mönstrat marmorgolv som finns i hisshallen på plan 26 i Folksamhuset, utanför VD:s våning. För att diskutera gestaltningen och verkets placering i rummet i Folksamhuset vid Farsta analyserar jag gestaltningen av entréhallen och kundtjänst och Torsten Renqvists monumentala verk placering i rummet. För att jämföra gestaltningen och monumentala verks funktion i privata byggnader med getsalningen och monumentala verk i offentliga byggnader analyserar jag Sven Erixons målning Nils Holgersson som finns i Olovslundsskolans aula. Sven Erixons och Barbro Nilsson samarbetade fler gånger och i uppsatsen diskuterar jag likheter och olikheter i deras konstnärskap.

The purpose of this essay was to give a better understanding of what happened when Kristinehamn's City Council was informed of the 1927 school reform, and how did they mange to change the decision onthe establishment of a higher girls' school in Karlstad. The purpose of the essay was thus to see how Kristinehamns school and City Council handled the 1927 school reform that gave female students theright to higher education. Pervious studies has shown that higher educational institutions were very male-dominated, thus one of analyses of this study is to focus on how the educational institution in Kristinehamn was adapted to female students. The essay will also have a discussion on how female students choice of education In Kristinehamn can be related to Hirdmans theory on “gender contract”. Since the essay only touches on one area the essay became a case study with a qualitative and quantitative method. What the essay came to is that Kristinehamn's City Council was not opposed to the decision that gave female’s entry into their educational institution. For Kristinehamns City Council it was the establishment of a higher girls' school in Karlstad that they were most opposed to. Compared to previous studies this is odd because most cities with higher educational institutions were resistant to 1927 school reform. That’s why many cities, one of which was Karlstad, argued for establishing a higher educational institution only for female student. Kristinehamns higher education institution adaptationand female students choice of education have shown to have a clear connection to the essays theory on gender contract. Uppsatsens syfte var att besvara problemformuleringen som är hur reagerade KristinehamnsStadsfullmäktige vid 1927 års skolreform och förändrade riksdagsbeslutet om inrättandet avflickläroverk i Karlstad. Uppsatsens syfte var därmed att se vilka förändringar Kristinehamns läroverkgick igenom när kvinnliga elever fick tillträde och om dessa förändringar kan kopplas till Hirdmans teoriom genuskontrakt. Dessutom ska flickors val av utbildning diskuteras och analyseras med genuskontraktteorin. Eftersom uppsatsen undersöker bara Kristinehamns läroverk och stadsfullmäktige blev den till enfallstudie med kvalitativ och kvantitativ metod. Uppsats resultaten har visat att Kristinehamnsstadsfullmäktige var inte lika berörd vid beslutet om samläroverk såsom Karlstad och Västerås var. 1927 års skolreform, som gav flickor tillträde till alla statliga läroverk, var inte protesterade i Kristinehamnutan det var inrättandet av flickläroverk i Karlstad som stadsfullmäktige var mest emot. Med hjälp av enutredning från Kristinehamns stadsfullmäktige förändrade riksdagen sitt beslut, som ledde till attinrättandet av samläroverk i Kristinehamn och ombildandet av Karlstads läroverk till samläroverk. Läroverkets anpassning till flickors tillträde och flickors val av utbildning har visat ha en koppling tilluppsatsens teori vilket är genuskontrakt.

This essay studies and compares three clergymen that were stationed in Sápmi during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and their writings that deal with the Saami population of the northern parts of Sweden. How they portray the Saami people and their culture is analyzed though postcolonial concepts as Edward Said’s othering and other concepts by the likes of Loomba, Lincoln and Pratt. The three priests portrayal of the Saami people and their culture are similar In that way that they all confirm some of the colonial stereotypes of the Saami during the time they were writing. But especially one of the priests stands out in his effort to give a nuanced portrayal of the Saami people.

Denna studie handlar om Säffle kanals ekonomi. I studien går jag igenom ekonomin från attbygget på kanalen startade år 1835 - 1845. Syftet är att undersöka kanalens ekonomi, hur detkommer sig att folk färdades igenom kanalen och att sedan jämföra Säffle kanal med andrakanaler i Värmland ur ett kvantitativt vis. 

Studien har gjorts med syfte att undersöka forskningsläget samt mellanstadielärares uppfattningar huruvida elevernas intresse för historieämnet kan öka med hjälp av undervisning om lokalhistoria. Forskarna har inriktat sig på lärares uppfattningar om lokalhistoria och presenterar olika för- och nackdelar som lärarna pekar på, samt hur lokalhistoria kan användas i undervisning. Metoden för den empiriska studien har varit kvalitativa intervjuer med ett antal lärare. Lärarna som intervjuas i studien arbetar eller har arbetat på mellanstadiet. De delar med sig av sina erfarenheter och uppfattningar gällande lokalhistorisk undervisning samt varför de valt att arbeta med lokalhistoria trots att det inte längre finns med i läroplanen för mellanstadiet. Den empiriska studien överensstämmer med forskningsläget och båda visar en rad fördelar med lokalhistorisk undervisning. Fördelar som lyfts är att undervisningen blir intresseväckande för eleverna samt att de kan göra kopplingar mellan den “lilla” och den “stora” historien. De nackdelar som presenteras är bland annat brist på material samt ekonomiska resurser. Slutsatsen blir dock att lokalhistoria är ett arbetssätt som påverkar eleverna positivt och kan öka deras intresse för historieämnet.

This thesis on the Swedish voluntary women’s defence organisation Riksförbundet Sveriges lottakårer (SLK), studies how the board and the members of SLK discussed the problems and the meaning of voluntary defence work during the 1960s and 1970s. Furthermore the thesis aims to engage with previous research and give an explanation to why people may be interested in voluntary defence. Views varied greatly within SLK: some meant that the voluntary grounds of participation gave a sense of elite status to the organisation; however others saw voluntary work as untenable, since more women at the time had both work and family obligations. Another issue was professionalisation versus socialisation. While some members wanted to see a centralisation and professionalisation of the organisation, others found it more important to safeguard the social functions and independence of the local corps unit. The results suggest that gender structures as well as individual agency create multiple reasons and meanings behind voluntary defence work.
