    Authors: Latvijas Universitāte. 79. starptautiskā zinātniskā konference;

    On March 10, 2021, for the second time, a section of doctoral students of history and archeology was organized at the 79th International Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia (UL). Eleven doctoral students and degree candidates submitted papers in the common theme “Health of society and individuals through time: Perspectives and problematics in history and archeology”, while representatives of archeology from the UL Institute of Latvian history applied for a keynote lecture. The reports cover people's dietary habits and mental health, diseases as well as the activities of medical institutions from prehistory to the 20th century. 2021. gada 10. martā jau otro reizi Latvijas Universitātes 79. starptautiskajā zinātniskajā konferencē organizēta vēstures un arheoloģijas doktorantu sekcija. Iekļaujoties kopējā tēmā “Sabiedrības un indivīda veselība cauri laikam: izpētes iespējas un problemātika vēstures un arheoloģijas zinātnē”, sekcijā pieteica dalību vienpadsmit doktoranti un grāda pretendenti, savukārt atslēgas referātu pieteica LU LVI arheoloģijas pārstāvji. Referātos aplūkoti gan cilvēku diētas paradumi, gan mentālā veselība, dažādas slimības kā arī medicīnas iestāžu darbība no aizvēstures līdz pat 20. gadsimtam.

    Archaeological sites as part of cultural heritage satisfy a broad range of interests of different stakeholders. Along with satisfying cultural, social, scientific, etc., interests, their role is no less important in strategic socio-economic development. Unlocking asocio-economic potential of archaeological sites requires clear vision of how to conserve and protect each particular site, how and by what means to maintain and manage the object as well as what to do with it next. It is widely acknowledged that archaeological sites, in particular those having the status of archaeological monuments, play a socially important role, but their maintenance and development often require significant investment. While the laws make owners of archaeological sites, both private and public, solely responsible for conservation, restoration and maintenance of cultural monuments in their property, there should be appropriate mechanisms that mitigate the financial and legal burden and sup-port owners along the way. Based on the review of legal regulation, scientific literature, information of the authorities and mass media, multiple expert interviews, consultations with professional archaeologists, and using an integrated socio-economic and legal approach to the researched issue, the article provides theoretical and practical insight into the actualities of archaeological heritage development potential in Latvia (making international comparisons) and possible solutions thereto.

    Authors: Barkane-Vincāne, Karīna;

    The aim of this dissertation is to conduct an in-depth study of Jewish religious life in the Latvian SSR (1944-89) by focusing on the challenge which secularization and assimilation posed to the preservation of Jewish religious identity under the Soviet regime. The state’s attitude towards the Jewish religious tradition is revealed in ideology and legislation, as well as in the implementation of the latter on varying levels of the state. The dissertation explores how Jewish religious congregations functioned in the post-war period. Specifically, it examines the registration process of congregations, their efforts in reclaiming synagogue buildings and their role in the maintenance of Jewish cemeteries, as well as the administrative and spiritual leaders of the congregations. The dissertation then turns to the observance of Jewish religious practices, focusing on participation in Jewish holiday and lifecycle rituals, as well as on the observance of kashrut, the making of matzo and the provision of ritual objects. Keywords: Jewish tradition, Soviet regime, religion, synagogues, Latvian SSR Promocijas darba mērķis ir izpētīt ebreju reliģisko dzīvi un ar to saistītās norises LPSR laika posmā no 1944. līdz 1989.g. Darbā apskatīta valsts varas attieksme pret jūdaismu un ebreju reliģisko tradīciju LPSR no 1944. līdz 1989.g., analizējot padomju varas ideoloģisko un faktisko nostādni jautājumos, kas ietekmēja ebreju reliģisko dzīvi. Darbā raksturota arī ebreju reliģisko draudžu darbība LPSR apskatāmajā laika posmā. Uzmanība veltīta draudžu garīgajiem un administratīvajiem vadītājiem, draudžu reģistrēšanas un sinagogu atgūšanas procesam, kā arī draudžu lomai ebreju kapsētu apkopšanā. Tāpat darbā aplūkota ebreju reliģiskās prakses ievērošana LPSR apskatāmajā laika posmā, pievēršoties ebreju svētku atzīmēšanai, ebreju dzīves cikla reliģiskajiem rituāliem, kā arī kašruta ievērošanai, macas izgatavošanai un reliģiska rakstura priekšmetu nodrošinājuma jautājumam. Atslēgvārdi: ebreju tradīcija, padomju vara, reliģija, sinagogas, Latvijas PSR

    Authors: Barkane-Vincāne, Karīna;
