The idea behind the DARIAH Research Data Management Working Group is to tackle the challenges associated with the implementation of new FAIR and open data sharing mandates, and offer a unique space for collaboration among representatives of all major arts and humanities disciplines, cultural heritage professionals, and data management experts. More specifically, we are building a knowledge hub for new professionals around data management support (data managers, data stewards, open science officers, subject librarians etc.) from across DARIAH’s national hubs to exchange across the discipline-specific dimension. During our meetings, the conflict between the need for and emergence of new data support roles, and the lack of any established domain-specific curriculum to train them, or, in some cases, even a lack of established good practices, became a recurrent topic which we aimed to address. Instead of embarking on the giant endeavour of curating an exhaustive and authoritative textbook for research data support specialists who work in the arts and humanities field, our idea is to give a snapshot of our own activities in the field and highlight the valuable work of others. Accordingly, the present publication can be read as the written form of a roundtable (or town hall) discussion where experts from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain have come and sat together to report and discuss past or ongoing work, share their fields of interests and provide honest and critical reflections, reveal how their institutions have developed capacities for data support, share their own stories of becoming data support professionals in the domain, and, most importantly, explore together what solutions, tools, practices, and other resources could be used and could be generalised across borders and disciplines. <br> This publication is the result of the Working Group’s first writing sprint, held between the 23 and 24 June 2022 at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBL PAN), in the Staszic Palace. The event was made possible by the DARIAH third Working Groups’ (WG) Funding Scheme Call for the years 2021–2023 and the resulting grant, which was administered by the Digital Humanities Centre at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBL PAN).

Various statistical and supervised machine learning models are used to extract structured biodiversity information and extend an existing information base, GIFT. A Neo4J database is modelled to accomodate existing and newly extracted information. This provides a new look on the available information and lets us explore graph algorithms to explore relationships among species and associated trait values.

This report has been prepared by the “Bibliographical Data” Working Group of the DARIAH-ERIC consortium, which develops public digital research infrastructure for the arts and humanities. The Group consists of more than 30 members from 15 countries, most of whom are researchers and curators in the public sector who are engaged in bibliographical data (“bibliodata”) research and curation. This report is aimed at all active stakeholders in the humanities bibliodata landscape,especially public sector entities who may benefit from the Group’s insights and engage in cooperation to identify common interests, shape joint agendas, and achieve common goals. Those goals include creating shared infrastructure solutions, harmonising existing standards, and building partnerships to meet major challenges for contemporary bibliodata stakeholders. The bibliodata landscape is a dynamic ecosystem including the many stakeholders who produce, process, and use diverse bibliographical resources (datasets, tools, services). Following the digital revolution, this landscape has been reconfigured and a critical era is now upon us that demands closer investigation. This report analyses the state of the art by defining current bibliodata (Chapter 1), mapping the contemporary landscape (Chapter 2), identifying crucial stakeholder challenges and opportunities (Chapter 3), and offering recommendations for future cooperation (Chapter 4). This report presents an overview of issues in the bibliodata landscape. It is intended to provide a foundation for more detailed reports and case studies on the issues identified in this document.

Games of 21 Combinations are a group of games of chance, based on the combinations rolled with two six-sided dice. Never as popular as the Game of the Owl or the Game of Seven, with which it shares certain features, Games of 21 Combinations show an great variety of designs from the 16th to 19th century. This paper describes the efforts in solving the Shared Task on the Disambiguation of German Verbal Idioms at KONVENS 2021. It presents the team's efforts to extend the training data semi-automatically. The disambigua- tion task was solved using XLM-RoBERTa, which delivered the best results with 0.76 f1- Score on all tested non-idiomatic instances in the test set. The baseline model, a linear SVM, achieves 0.55 f1-Score. Furthermore, additional data was collected to enhance the training data set with respect to literal use of idiomatic expressions. While the baseline model improves slightly with additional training data, the XLM-RoBERTa model performs better when only the core training data is provided.

The report refers to the call for user stories for the Text+ consortium in the context of the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). The user stories summited by scholars (mainly from the Humanities) present challenges or possible infrastructural solutions related to their individual research data. The report explains the context and methodology, as well as the decisions and steps taken during the call. It also provides an analysis of the major elements and categories of the user stories, and some reflexions for future measures. Summary Many social animals interact jointly, but only humans experience a specific sense of obligation toward their co-participants, a joint commitment. However, joint commitment is not only a mental state but also a process that reveals itself in the coordination efforts deployed during entry and exit phases of joint action. Here, we investigated the presence and duration of such phases in N = 1,242 natural play and grooming interactions of captive chimpanzees and bonobos. The apes frequently exchanged mutual gaze and communicative signals prior to and after engaging in joint activities with conspecifics, demonstrating entry and exit phases comparable to those of human joint activities. Although rank effects were less clear, phases in bonobos were more moderated by friendship compared to phases in chimpanzees, suggesting bonobos were more likely to reflect patterns analogous to human “face management”. This suggests that joint commitment as process was already present in our last common ancestor with Pan. Abstract: Following the ever-increasing interest in prehistoric violence and warfare, my research aims to reconstruct the sword fighting styles of the Middle and Late Bronze Age in Europe (c. 1650-600 BC), with a particular focus on Britain and Italy. The fighting styles are investigated through an innovative combination of combat experiments, partially based on historical sources, and metalwork wear analysis of archaeological swords from both countries. For the experiments, a new methodology had to be developed, allowing me to record and link the marks created through specific actions during live combat. The experiments were successfully carried out over a number of field days, and a reference database of wear marks was created. As for the wear analysis, existing methodologies were developed further, and analysis was carried out on a total of 110 swords from various British and Italian museums. Over 2300 combat-related wear marks could be identified, and the most detailed list of Bronze Age wear marks to date was created. Comparing the experimental and archaeological marks has enabled me to propose original observations regarding fighting practices and swordsmanship in Middle and Late Bronze Age Europe.
