    St Maxim the Greek: Some notes on his understanding of the sacred time Based on a manuscript by St Maxim the Greek, this article explores his specific understanding of the relationship between language and biblical tradition. It gives some answers to questions concerning his theology, which are posed by his liturgical experience of the sacred time, which is based not on repeating the excerptions from the patristic authors, but is primarily founded on his accurate reading and in-depth perception of the Holy Bible. Maxim the Greek, who in his personal writings showed a detailed knowledge of both the Old Testament and Slavonic biblical texts, was thus not only able to separate the canonical from the non-canonical sacred texts, but also successfully classified the Christian teachings according to ethical value, from the Old Testament prophets to the apostles and the Church Fathers. With his hierarchy he also gave meaning to the ontological-eschatological dimension (three levels – appropriate to the Holy Trinity) of their spiritual efforts. His knowledge, which also reflects the precise understanding of dogmatic theological decisions of the first ecumenical church councils, ranks highest the learning that comes directly from the Son of God, which Maxim the Greek experienced through his theological-liturgical prayer practice. Maxim found theologically unambiguous formulations which most profoundly determined the specific nature of his personal theology in the Byzantine hymnography dedicated to the Mother of God. All the mentioned facts lead the author to the further explore his specific Old Church Slavonic language, in which he managed to preserve not only the early Christian mentality but also the theological-liturgical characteristics of the ascetic and later monastic discipline that he learned in the monastery of Vatopedi at the Holy Mount Athos. The article concludes with the proposition that only through detailed study of the personal language of St Maxim the Greek can we arrive at a definition of his Theology. Św. Maksym Grek. Kilka uwag o jego rozumieniu czasu świetego Artykul poświecony jest specyficznemu rozumieniu związku jezyka i tradycji biblijnej w manuskrypcie św. Maksyma Greka. Proponuje odpowiedzi na pytania dotyczącego jego teologii, jakie zostaly zawarte w jego liturgicznym doświadczeniu świetego czasu, ktore nie polega na odtwarzaniu ekscerpcji z autorow patrystycznych, lecz jest przede wszystkim oparte na wlaściwym odczytaniu i doglebnym rozumieniu Biblii. Maksym Grek, ktory w swoich pismach osobistych wykazuje szczegolową wiedze na temat zarowno Starego Testamentu, jak i slowianskich tekstow biblijnych, posiada umiejetnośc oddzielenia nie tylko tekstow kanonicznych od niekanonicznych, ale takze z powodzeniem klasyfikuje nauki chrześcijanskie zgodnie z ich wartością etyczną, od prorokow Starego Testamentu do apostolow i Ojcow Kościola. Hierarchią tą nadaje takze znaczenie wymiarowi ontologiczno-eschatologicznemu (trzy poziomy – wlaściwe Świetej Trojcy) ich wysilkow duchowym. Wiedza, ktora ujawnia sie rowniez w precyzyjnym rozumieniu decyzji dogmatycznych pierwszych ekumenicznych soborow Kościola, sytuuje najwyzej bezpośrednią nauke plynącą od Syna Bozego, ktorej Maksym Grek doświadczyl dzieki teologiczno-liturgicznej praktyce modlitewnej. W bizantynskiej hymnografii odnajduje on jednoznaczne sformulowania teologicznie, poświecone Matce Boskiej, ktore najdobitniej określają specyfike jego osobistej teologii. Wszystkie wspomniane fakty wiodą do dalszych badan jego charakterystycznego jezyka staro-cerkiewno-slowianskiego, w ktorym stara sie zachowac nie tylko wczesną mentalnośc chrześcijanską, lecz takze teologiczno-liturgiczne cechy ascetycznej, a poźniej monastycznej, dyscypliny, ktorej nauczyl sie w monastyrze Vatopedi na Świetej Gorze Atos. Artykul stawia teze, ze tylko szczegolowe badania jezyka św. Maksyma Greka pozwalają na zdefiniowanie jego teologii.

    Language and non-language expression in Reggio Emilia pedagogical approachIn the first part of the article the author describes the importance of language awareness and non-language expression in the pre-school period. The author points out the importance of the usage of all the senses (visual, aural, kinethestic etc.), space and time, and picture images in all 100 languages which are not current only in Reggio Emilia pedagogical approach but also successfully implemented in the Slovenian Preschool Curriculum.All these elements are part of communicative skills (i.e. speaking, listening, writing and reading) and are prerequisites for developing themes (describing, narrating, explaining, argumenting).In addition, the author mentions questioning strategies as one of the most important factors in developing children’s thaughts. She continues with the Slovene language as a second/foreign language which has become an unavoidable and valuable constant in our globally influenced life. The above mentioned elements have been included in the research study which are discussed in the second part of the article.In the conclusion the author discusses the research findings and some other considerations which may lead to the further research and are derived from the existing knowledge and the current cognition.

    Authors: Miran Hladnik;

    The Turks in the Slovene historical novel Due to the Ottoman incursions in the 15 th and 16 th Century Turks play a role of national enemy in the Slovene cultural memory. The Turkish story consists of about 40 narratives of substantial length and is a prominent genre type of the Slovene historical novel. Josip Jurcic’s Jurij Kozjak, slovenski janicar (1864) is an archetype. Among three possible models of confronting the Other it chooses the most popular strategy for national survival, i. e. ignoring the Other: sooner or later dangerous Turks prove themselve as disguised Slovenes, hence abolishing the need to face the Other. The authors of the Slovene Turkish story include Jakob Sket ( Miklova Zala , 1884), Franc Valentin Slemenik, Miroslav Malovrh, Lea Fatur, France Bevk, Ivan Lah, Ivan Sivec, etc. Turcy w slowenskiej prozie historycznej W kulturowej pamieci Slowencow Turcy jako najeźdźcy ziem slowenskich w XV i XVI wieku zajmują miejsce wrogow narodu. Opowiadanie o tematyce tureckiej (ich liczba wynosi niemal 40) jest waznym gatunkiem w slowenskiej prozie historycznej. Jego pierwowzor, Jurij Kozjak, slovenski janicar (1864) Josipa Jurcica, stworzyl taki model zbiorowego doświadczenia, ktory podtrzymuje iluzje, ze wrogi Inny wlaściwie nie istnieje: wcześniej czy poźniej okazuje sie bowiem, ze niebezpieczni Turcy są jedynie przebranymi miejscowymi wieśniakami. Opowiadania o tematyce tureckiej pisali m.in. Jakob Sket ( Miklova Zala , 1884), Franc Valentin Slemenik, Miroslav Malovrh, Lea Fatur, France Bevk, Ivan Lah, Ivan Sivec.

    Authors: Irena Stramljič Breznik;

    Word-formational productivity of onomatopoeic interjections imitating machine sounds in Slovene The article presents partial results of a wider study about the lexical potential of interjections in Slovene from the functional and lexicographical perspectives. The study focuses on interjections imitating machine sounds which are presented as entries from a to ž in the Slovenian Ortography (2001). On the basis of examples found, interjections were classified into more homogenous groups according to the type of machine. Each category was further analyzed by using corpus analysis, which was carried out on the trial version of the billion-word corpus of the Slovene language called Gigafida. The analysis focused on the existence of words created from interjections whose base comes from one of the subcategories of onomatopoeic interjections presented here. The results of the analysis have confirmed that this type of interjections and words formed from them are relatively frequent in expressive discourse. The most prominent are the interjections typically used for imitating the sound of musical instruments and their parts (brenk), tools (svrk, skrt), weapons (pok, svist) and transportation devices (puh). The results also showed that the interjections which are the base for forming verbs give rise to more extensive word families. Verbs formed from interjections can also form complex words of a higher order according to established word-formational patterns. Produktywnośc slowotworcza slowenskich wtrącen onomatopeicznych naśladujących dźwieki maszyn Niniejszy artykul jest cześcią wiekszego projektu, badającego potencjal leksykalny wtrącen w jezyku slowenskim z perspektywy funkcjonalnej oraz leksykograficznej – w pracy przedstawione zostaną jedynie wyniki badan nad tymi wtrąceniami, ktore naśladują dźwieki maszyn. Material do badania, tj. konkretne wtrącenia, zostal zaczerpniety ze slownika ortografii slowenskiej (Slovenski pravopis, 2001). Znalezione przyklady zostaly nastepnie pogrupowane w zalezności od typu maszyn, ktorych dźwieki naśladują. Kolejny etap to poglebiona analiza kazdej grupy za pomocą testowej wersji korpusu jezyka slowenskiego Gigafida (korpus ten zawiera okolo miliarda slow). Analiza ta miala na celu zbadanie, czy istnieją slowa utworzone na bazie wtrącen nalezących do jednej z omawianych tutaj grup. Badanie wykazalo, iz tego typu wtrącenia oraz slowa od nich utworzone stosunkowo czesto wystepują w dyskursie o charakterze ekspresywnym. Ze wszystkich wtrącen najcześciej wystepowaly te, ktore naśladują dźwiek instrumentow muzycznych lub ich cześci (brenk), narzedzi (svrk, skrt), broni (pok, svist) oraz środkow transportu (puh). Co wiecej, wtrącenia, od ktorych tworzone są czasowniki, dają początek bardziej rozbudowanym rodzinom wyrazowym. Takie czasowniki mogą rowniez wchodzic w sklad bardziej zlozonych slow, tworzonych za pomocą typowych dla jezyka slowenskiego mechanizmow slowotworczych.

    Authors: Miran Hladnik;

    The Turks in the Slovene historical novel Due to the Ottoman incursions in the 15 th and 16 th Century Turks play a role of national enemy in the Slovene cultural memory. The Turkish story consists of about 40 narratives of substantial length and is a prominent genre type of the Slovene historical novel. Josip Jurcic’s Jurij Kozjak, slovenski janicar (1864) is an archetype. Among three possible models of confronting the Other it chooses the most popular strategy for national survival, i. e. ignoring the Other: sooner or later dangerous Turks prove themselve as disguised Slovenes, hence abolishing the need to face the Other. The authors of the Slovene Turkish story include Jakob Sket ( Miklova Zala , 1884), Franc Valentin Slemenik, Miroslav Malovrh, Lea Fatur, France Bevk, Ivan Lah, Ivan Sivec, etc. Turcy w slowenskiej prozie historycznej W kulturowej pamieci Slowencow Turcy jako najeźdźcy ziem slowenskich w XV i XVI wieku zajmują miejsce wrogow narodu. Opowiadanie o tematyce tureckiej (ich liczba wynosi niemal 40) jest waznym gatunkiem w slowenskiej prozie historycznej. Jego pierwowzor, Jurij Kozjak, slovenski janicar (1864) Josipa Jurcica, stworzyl taki model zbiorowego doświadczenia, ktory podtrzymuje iluzje, ze wrogi Inny wlaściwie nie istnieje: wcześniej czy poźniej okazuje sie bowiem, ze niebezpieczni Turcy są jedynie przebranymi miejscowymi wieśniakami. Opowiadania o tematyce tureckiej pisali m.in. Jakob Sket ( Miklova Zala , 1884), Franc Valentin Slemenik, Miroslav Malovrh, Lea Fatur, France Bevk, Ivan Lah, Ivan Sivec.

    Authors: Irena Stramljič Breznik;
