Con base en Maneras trágicas de matar a una mujer, de Nicole Loraux, el presente artículo se propone la presentación de los modos tan disímiles como en una polis griega es pensada la muerte de un hombre y la de una mujer. Se busca mostrar con especial énfasis el modo como la muerte de la mujer es teatralizada en la tragedia griega, género literario considerado aquí como lugar en el que se desvanecen, aunque ambiguamente, las líneas fronterizas entre las dos maneras de morir. De acuerdo con esto, se muestran algunos rasgos de la antropología política en los que la concepción griega antigua sustenta, según el sexo de quien haya de morir, los significados diversos acerca de la muerte en el campo de problemas examinados. Por tanto, no se pretende proponer ni realizar un estudio que sugiera líneas argumentativas a favor de una concepción de lo trágico, ni interpretativas acerca de la esencia de ese genial fruto artístico del espíritu griego.

En este artículo argumentamos que, desde la atomización violenta producida por la desmovilización de las AUC y el abandono de las pretensiones nacionales por parte de las organizaciones insurgentes, en Colombia no se desarrolla un único conflicto armado transversal a todo el país. Por el contrario, permanecen activos múltiples conflictos cuyas dinámicas a nivel subregional son independientes de lo que sucede en otras subregiones, aun cuando se encuentren geográficamente cerca. Para analizar cada uno de estos conflictos proponemos que se tengan en cuenta tres elementos: la naturaleza de los actores armados, las interacciones que se gestan entre ellos y el territorio en el que actúan. A partir de esto, analizamos dos conflictos armados que tienen lugar en el Caribe: el de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta y el del sur de Córdoba. En estos, identificamos cuatro tipos de conflictividad: hegemonía criminal, paz mafiosa, competencia armada y competencia armada con alianzas en su interior.

RESUMEN Introducción: el Síndrome de Guillain-Barré es una polirradiculoneuropatía aguda causante de parálisis fláccida, generalmente ascendente. Los pacientes frecuentemente tienen antecedentes de infecciones previas, usualmente de tipo respiratorio o gastrointestinal. Objetivo: describir las características demográficas, clínicas y electromiografías de los pacientes con Síndrome de Guillain-Barré en el Hospital Central del Instituto de Previsión Social (Asunción, Paraguay) en el periodo agosto 2015 a setiembre 2017, además de analizar variables potencialmente relacionadas al desenlace clínico. Metodología: diseño observacional con corte transversal. Población: 30 pacientes con diagnóstico confirmado de Síndrome de Guillain-Barré. Resultados: edad promedio de 46,6 ± 15,8 años, 53,3% sexo masculino, 26,7% con antecedentes de enfermedad respiratoria, 20,0% con antecedentes de diarrea, 10,0% con antecedentes de dengue, 53,3% con disociación albúmino-citológica en líquido cefalorraquídeo. En la electromiografía se halló patrón desmielinizante en el 46,7%, patrón axonal motor en el 26,7% y axonal motor sensitivo en el 23,3%. Semiológicamente hubo 100% con trastornos motores, 33,3% con trastornos sensitivos, 3,3% con trastornos autonómicos. Respecto al tratamiento, 60,0% fueron tratados antes de los seis días de enfermedad, 100% con inmunoglobulinas. Hubo 66,7% con mejoría clínica y 3,3% fallecidos. No se identificaron variables asociadas significativamente al desenlace clínico. Conclusiones: predominó el sexo masculino, la edad media fue 46,6 años. Los antecedentes más comunes fueron las infecciones respiratorias y diarrea. La disociación albúmino-citológica se observó en 53,3%. Por electromiografía, el patrón más frecuente fue de tipo desmielinizante, seguido por el de tipo axonal motor. ABSTRACT Introduction: Guillain-Barre Syndrome is an acute polyradiculoneuropathy that causes flaccid paralysis, generally ascending. Patients frequently have a history of previous infections, usually respiratory or gastrointestinal infections. Objective: To describe the demographic, clinical and electromyographic characteristics of patients with Guillain-Barre Syndrome at the Central Hospital of the Social Security Institute (Instituto de Previsión Social in Spanish) (Asunción, Paraguay) in the period of August 2015 to September 2017, in addition to analyzing variables potentially related to the clinical outcome. Methodology: Observational cross-sectional design. Population: Thirty patients with a confirmed diagnosis of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Results: Mean age of 46.6±15.8 years, 53.3% male, 26.7% with a history of respiratory disease, 20.0% with a history of diarrhea, 10.0% with a history of dengue, 53.3% with albumin-cytological dissociation in cerebrospinal fluid. Electromyography revealed a demyelinating pattern in 46.7%, a motor axonal pattern in 26.7%, and a sensory motor axonal in 23.3%. Semiologically, there were 100% patients with motor disorders, 33.3% with sensory disorders, and 3.3% with autonomic disorders. Regarding treatment, 60.0% were treated before six days of illness, 100% with immunoglobulins. There were 66.7% of the patients with clinical improvement and 3.3% deceased. No variables significantly associated with the clinical outcome were identified. Conclusions: males predominated and the mean age was 46.6 years. The most common antecedents were respiratory infections and diarrhea. Albumin-cytological dissociation was observed in 53.3%. By electromyography, the most frequent pattern was demyelinating, followed by axonal motor type.

Abstract The Jalpatagua fault in Guatemala accommodates dextral movement of the Central America forearc. We present new global positioning system (GPS) data, minor fault analysis, geochronological analyses, and analysis of lineaments to characterize deformation along the fault and near its terminations. Our data indicate that the Jalpatagua fault terminates at both ends into extensional regions. The western termination occurs near the Amatitlan caldera and the southern extension of the Guatemala City graben, as no through-going structures were observed to continue west into the active volcanic arc. Along the Jalpatagua fault, new and updated GPS site velocities are consistent with a slip rate of 7.1 ± 1.8 mm yr−1. Minor faulting along the central section of the fault includes: (1) N-S–striking normal faults accommodating E-W elongation; and (2) four sets of strike-slip faults (oriented 330°, 020°, 055°, and 295°, parallel to the Jalpatagua fault trace). Minor fault arrays support dextral movement along a major fault in the orientation of the Jalpatagua fault. GPS and fault data indicate that the Jalpatagua fault terminates to the east near the Guatemala–El Salvador border. Data delineate a pull-apart basin southeast of the fault termination, which is undergoing transtension as the Jalpatagua fault transitions into the El Salvador fault system to the east. Within the basin, minor faulting and lineations trend to the NW and accommodate NE-directed elongation. This faulting differs from E-W elongation observed along the Jalpatagua fault and is more similar to minor faults within the El Salvador fault system.

espanolEl presente trabajo busca analizar el proyecto de solidaridad intelectual que articulo la revista mexicana El Corno Emplumado (1962-1969), el cual formo parte de una amplia red intelectual de solidaridad que se establecio a nivel continental y con un caracter transnacional. En los estudios sobre la intelectualidad de los sesenta, las revistas de corte contracultural como El Corno Emplumado y los proyectos de solidaridad de tipo intelectual no han sido los topicos mas revisados, de ahi el alto valor de acercarnos a esta tematica desde otros enfoques y actores. Como se vera en las siguientes paginas, el desarrollo de un proyecto de solidaridad a traves de una red intelectual represento una novedosa y diferente forma de establecer relaciones intelectuales para la epoca y produjo importantes momentos como el Movimiento de Nueva Solidaridad y el Primer Encuentro de Poetas. EnglishThis paper seeks to analyze the intellectual solidarity project articulated by the Mexican magazine El Corno Emplumado (1962-1969), which formed part of a broad intellectual solidarity network established at the continental level, with a transnational nature. In studies on the intellectuality of the 1960s, countercultural magazines such as El Corno Emplumado and intellectual solidarity projects have not usually been the focus of inquiry, hence the value of addressing this issue from other approaches and actors. As will be seen in the following pages, the development of a solidarity project through an intellectual network represented a new, different way of establishing intellectual relationships for the time and produced important moments such as the New Solidarity Movement and the First Poets’ Meeting.

AbstractObjectivesAlterations in adult hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis activity have increasingly been linked with early life stress and adult depression, but a limited number of studies have used longitudinal data to explore HPA axis dysregulation as an underlying mechanism driving the long‐term depressive impacts of early stressors. Here we address potential long‐term impacts of early life, family‐based stress on depressive symptoms among young adults in a longitudinal birth cohort study begun in 1983 in the Philippines.Materials and methodsWe relate a composite measure of family‐based stressors experienced between birth and adolescence to circadian dynamics in adult salivary cortisol and depressive risk measured at 21–22 years of age. Multiple regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationship between early life stress levels and risk of adult depressive symptoms, as well as the role of adult diurnal cortisol activity in this relationship.ResultsGreater levels of early life familial stress predicted more severe depressive symptomatology at age 21–22 in a dose–response fashion (p < .0001) independent of adult diurnal cortisol patterns. Flatter diurnal cortisol slopes are directly associated with higher adult depressive symptoms, an effect mostly driven by evening cortisol levels (p = .004). When considering the cumulative effects of early life stress measures, however, exposure to more of these stressors during development is associated with even higher depressive symptoms.DiscussionThe long‐term depressive effects of early life familial stress extend to this large sample of Cebuano young adults, and early life stress and HPA axis function may shape adult depressive symptoms through independent pathways in this sample. Our findings provide further evidence that HPA axis activity is shaped by early life conditions and is associated with depressive symptoms.
