    Background: Polyphenols are micronutrients and an important class of secondary metabolites that are naturally present in various types of plants and their derived byproducts. Humans obtain polyphenols and phytochemicals from different vegetables, fruits, spices, and teas. More than 8,000 different types of polyphenols have been isolated from different natural sources. Polyphenols play an important role in the plants’ resistance against pests and diseases. Plants from citrus class contain flavonoids, carotenoids, and ascorbic acid. Eriocitrin is a flavanone glycoside present in lemon juice and other citrus plants. Methods: Scientific research data on eriocitrin have been collected from Google, Google Scholar, Pub- Med, and Scopus databases, and analyzed in the present paper to determine the biological importance of eriocitrin in medicine. The medicinal importance and therapeutic benefit of eriocitrin in medicine have been investigated through literature data analysis of various research works. Pharmacological activity data have been thoroughly collected in the present work and analyzed in order to assess the health-beneficial aspects of eriocitrin against human disorders. Results: Scientific database analysis has revealed the medicinal importance and therapeutic benefit of eriocitrin in medicine. Scientific data analysis has revealed the anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, and anti-obesity activities of eriocitrin. Further scientific data analysis has revealed the biological effect of eriocitrin on osteoarthritis, hepatocellular carcinoma, oral carcinogenesis, hepatic steatosis, oxidative damage, and different types of enzymes. In addition, eriocitrin has also been reported to exert potent antioxidant and suppressive effects on oxidative stress. Scientific data analysis has also revealed the significance of analytical techniques for the separation, isolation, and identification of eriocitrin. Conclusion: The present work indicates the biological importance of eriocitrin in medicine and other allied health sectors.

    AbstractThe study examines factors that influence consumers’ preference for secondhand clothes over traditionally produced textiles and garments or otherwise within the Tamale metropolis in the Northern region of Ghana. A qualitative descriptive design was employed to determine reasons that might account for patronage of secondhand goods over traditionally produced items or vice versa by considering Lyon’s “Models of customer choice” framework. An inductive thematic analysis was employed through in-depth interviews to collect and analyze data from 28 Participants using purposive and accidental sampling techniques. The findings identified higher patronage of secondhand goods over the traditionally produced ones within the metropolis. Factors identified include low-income level of consumers, high taste for foreign goods, high cost of locally produced textiles, lack of patriotism, among others, as main reasons for the high patronage of secondhand goods compared to items produced traditionally within the metropolis. Interventions suggested were lowering the importation of secondhand goods or placing total ban on them, others suggested that stakeholders must make efforts to improve on indigenous technologies to enhance and speed up production processes in the weaving, dyeing and printing sectors, developed means of producing raw materials locally for the industry thereby reducing the overall cost of end products.

    Sentiment analysis holds great importance within the domain of natural language processing as it examines both the expressed and underlying emotions conveyed through review content. Furthermore, researchers have discovered that relying solely on the overall sentiment derived from the textual content is inadequate. Consequently, sentiment analysis was developed to extract nuanced expressions from textual information. One of the challenges in this field is effectively extracting emotional elements using multi-label data that covers various aspects. This article presents a novel approach called the Ensemble of DenseNet based on Aquila Optimizer (EDAO). EDAO is specifically designed to enhance the precision and diversity of multi-label learners. Unlike traditional multi-label methods, EDAO strongly emphasizes improving model diversity and accuracy in multi-label scenarios. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we conducted experiments on seven distinct datasets, including emotions, hotels, movies, proteins, automobiles, medical, news, and birds. Our initial strategy involves establishing a preprocessing mechanism to obtain precise and refined data. Subsequently, we used the Vader tool with Bag of Words (BoW) for feature extraction. In the third stage, we created word associations using the word2vec method. The improved data were also used to train and test the DenseNet model, which was fine-tuned using the Aquila Optimizer (AO). On the news, emotion, auto, bird, movie, hotel, protein, and medical datasets, utilizing the aspect-based multi-labeling technique, we achieved accuracy rates of 95%, 97%, and 96%, respectively, with DenseNet-AO. Our proposed model demonstrates that EDAO outperforms other standard methods across various multi-label datasets with different dimensions. The implemented strategy has been rigorously validated through experimental results, showcasing its effectiveness compared to existing benchmark approaches.

    AbstractThe present study aims to explore the acquisition order of eight English grammatical inflectional morphemes, i.e., plural –s, possessive -s’, third person singular, present tense-s, past tense-ed, present participle-ing, past participle-en, comparative-er, and superlative-est by young Sindhi ESL (English as second language learners) learners at the high school. The study aimed to test the hypothesis that the high school English learners do not follow the universal order of grammatical morphemes and to investigate the effect of linguistic interference of L1 (Sindhi) in the acquisition order of English grammatical morphemes. The primary instrument used for data collection in this study was written essays. The time gap between first and second samplings was around three months. A mixed methods research design was utilized. The study used an exploratory-descriptive-qualitative methods coupled with a quantitative as per the objectives of the study corresponding to the research questions. A convenience sampling technique was employed to select participants from 10th Grade level. Specifically, the data was analyzed using the Dulay and Burt (1974) scoring method. The statistical tests were utilized to test the null hypothesis. The data confirmed that they indeed do not follow the universal order of grammatical morphemes. There exists the effect of linguistic inference of L1 in the acquisition order English grammatical morphemes. Finally, the finding is not in line with the sequence as determined by Dulay and Burt (1974), and Brown (1973).

    This study’s main goal is to create a useful software application for finding and classifying fine art photos in museums and art galleries. There is an increasing need for tools to swiftly analyze and arrange art collections based on their artistic styles as a result of the digitization of art collections. To increase the accuracy of the style categorization, the suggested technique involves two parts. The input image is split into five sub-patches in the first stage. A DCNN that has been particularly trained for this task is then used to classify each patch individually. A decision-making module using a shallow neural network is part of the second phase. Probability vectors acquired from the first-phase classifier are used to train this network. The results from each of the five patches are combined in this phase to deduce the final style classification for the input image. One key advantage of this approach is employing probability vectors rather than images, and the second phase is trained separately from the first. This helps compensate for any potential errors made during the first phase, improving accuracy in the final classification. To evaluate the proposed method, six various already-trained CNN models, namely AlexNet, VGG-16, VGG-19, GoogLeNet, ResNet-50, and InceptionV3, were employed as the first-phase classifiers. The second-phase classifier was implemented as a shallow neural network. By using four representative art datasets, experimental trials were conducted using the Australian Native Art dataset, the WikiArt dataset, ILSVRC, and Pandora 18k. The findings showed that the recommended strategy greatly surpassed existing methods in terms of style categorization accuracy and precision. Overall, the study assists in creating efficient software systems for analyzing and categorizing fine art images, making them more accessible to the general public through digital platforms. Using pre-trained models, we were able to attain an accuracy of 90.7. Our model performed better with a higher accuracy of 96.5 as a result of fine-tuning and transfer learning.

    Cousin marriage is an important social institution in many parts of Asia and Africa; yet few studies have looked beyond the health consequences to its role in shaping intrahousehold dynamics. We use a unique survey of households in Pakistan to examine the role of parental consanguinity on education, child work and vaccination, and how those effects differ by gender. We apply ordinary least squares, Tobit, inverse probability weighting with regression adjustment treatment effects and intent-to-treat estimation techniques to a dataset of 1,020 households from 9 districts and control for a rich set of covariates. We model selection into consanguineous marriage using the availability of opposite-gender marriageable cousins. Our results show that the adult children of parents who are first cousins completed fewer years of education and are less likely to have attended school. Educational attainment was curtailed equally for daughters of both marriage arrangements, but consanguineous daughters faced a double burden of consanguinity and gender discrimination. For school-aged children of consanguineous couples, the number of days of school missed is higher in some specifications, but enrolment and educational expenditures are roughly the same as children of parents who are not related or are related more distantly. In contrast, domestic work is somewhat reduced for the offspring of first-cousin parents. Daughters of consanguineous parents are less likely to have received vaccinations, although this effect is weaker in the sample of school-aged children than adult children.

    Abstract This essay examines modern states’ strategic destruction and patronage of Muslim shrines to consolidate majoritarian power. Drawing on Rian Thum’s notion of shrines as “durable sacred geography,” it conceptualizes shrines as active historical agents embedded in expansive transnational networks. Their extensive sacred geography enables shrines to persist as generative fulcrums that sustain meaning by bridging heterogeneous times and spaces despite tumultuous change. Challenging prevalent views of shrines as passive symbols, the essay delineates how the flexible reassembly of tradition across far-reaching networks empowers shrines to endure as pivotal arenas of ritual contestation from the medieval era into modernity. Their astounding continuity relies on mobilizing expansive geographies to creatively reconfigure tradition across eras.

    Information retrieval (IR) is essential in biomedical knowledge acquisition and clinical decision support. While recent progress has shown that language model encoders perform better semantic retrieval, training such models requires abundant query-article annotations that are difficult to obtain in biomedicine. As a result, most biomedical IR systems only conduct lexical matching. In response, we introduce MedCPT, a first-of-its-kind Contrastively Pre-trained Transformer model for zero-shot semantic IR in biomedicine. To train MedCPT, we collected an unprecedented scale of 255 million user click logs from PubMed. With such data, we use contrastive learning to train a pair of closely-integrated retriever and re-ranker. Experimental results show that MedCPT sets new state-of-the-art performance on six biomedical IR tasks, outperforming various baselines including much larger models such as GPT-3-sized cpt-text-XL. In addition, MedCPT also generates better biomedical article and sentence representations for semantic evaluations. As such, MedCPT can be readily applied to various real-world biomedical IR tasks.     Background: Polyphenols are micronutrients and an important class of secondary metabolites that are naturally present in various types of plants and their derived byproducts. Humans obtain polyphenols and phytochemicals from different vegetables, fruits, spices, and teas. More than 8,000 different types of polyphenols have been isolated from different natural sources. Polyphenols play an important role in the plants’ resistance against pests and diseases. Plants from citrus class contain flavonoids, carotenoids, and ascorbic acid. Eriocitrin is a flavanone glycoside present in lemon juice and other citrus plants. Methods: Scientific research data on eriocitrin have been collected from Google, Google Scholar, Pub- Med, and Scopus databases, and analyzed in the present paper to determine the biological importance of eriocitrin in medicine. The medicinal importance and therapeutic benefit of eriocitrin in medicine have been investigated through literature data analysis of various research works. Pharmacological activity data have been thoroughly collected in the present work and analyzed in order to assess the health-beneficial aspects of eriocitrin against human disorders. Results: Scientific database analysis has revealed the medicinal importance and therapeutic benefit of eriocitrin in medicine. Scientific data analysis has revealed the anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, and anti-obesity activities of eriocitrin. Further scientific data analysis has revealed the biological effect of eriocitrin on osteoarthritis, hepatocellular carcinoma, oral carcinogenesis, hepatic steatosis, oxidative damage, and different types of enzymes. In addition, eriocitrin has also been reported to exert potent antioxidant and suppressive effects on oxidative stress. Scientific data analysis has also revealed the significance of analytical techniques for the separation, isolation, and identification of eriocitrin. Conclusion: The present work indicates the biological importance of eriocitrin in medicine and other allied health sectors.

    AbstractThe study examines factors that influence consumers’ preference for secondhand clothes over traditionally produced textiles and garments or otherwise within the Tamale metropolis in the Northern region of Ghana. A qualitative descriptive design was employed to determine reasons that might account for patronage of secondhand goods over traditionally produced items or vice versa by considering Lyon’s “Models of customer choice” framework. An inductive thematic analysis was employed through in-depth interviews to collect and analyze data from 28 Participants using purposive and accidental sampling techniques. The findings identified higher patronage of secondhand goods over the traditionally produced ones within the metropolis. Factors identified include low-income level of consumers, high taste for foreign goods, high cost of locally produced textiles, lack of patriotism, among others, as main reasons for the high patronage of secondhand goods compared to items produced traditionally within the metropolis. Interventions suggested were lowering the importation of secondhand goods or placing total ban on them, others suggested that stakeholders must make efforts to improve on indigenous technologies to enhance and speed up production processes in the weaving, dyeing and printing sectors, developed means of producing raw materials locally for the industry thereby reducing the overall cost of end products.

    Sentiment analysis holds great importance within the domain of natural language processing as it examines both the expressed and underlying emotions conveyed through review content. Furthermore, researchers have discovered that relying solely on the overall sentiment derived from the textual content is inadequate. Consequently, sentiment analysis was developed to extract nuanced expressions from textual information. One of the challenges in this field is effectively extracting emotional elements using multi-label data that covers various aspects. This article presents a novel approach called the Ensemble of DenseNet based on Aquila Optimizer (EDAO). EDAO is specifically designed to enhance the precision and diversity of multi-label learners. Unlike traditional multi-label methods, EDAO strongly emphasizes improving model diversity and accuracy in multi-label scenarios. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we conducted experiments on seven distinct datasets, including emotions, hotels, movies, proteins, automobiles, medical, news, and birds. Our initial strategy involves establishing a preprocessing mechanism to obtain precise and refined data. Subsequently, we used the Vader tool with Bag of Words (BoW) for feature extraction. In the third stage, we created word associations using the word2vec method. The improved data were also used to train and test the DenseNet model, which was fine-tuned using the Aquila Optimizer (AO). On the news, emotion, auto, bird, movie, hotel, protein, and medical datasets, utilizing the aspect-based multi-labeling technique, we achieved accuracy rates of 95%, 97%, and 96%, respectively, with DenseNet-AO. Our proposed model demonstrates that EDAO outperforms other standard methods across various multi-label datasets with different dimensions. The implemented strategy has been rigorously validated through experimental results, showcasing its effectiveness compared to existing benchmark approaches.

    AbstractThe present study aims to explore the acquisition order of eight English grammatical inflectional morphemes, i.e., plural –s, possessive -s’, third person singular, present tense-s, past tense-ed, present participle-ing, past participle-en, comparative-er, and superlative-est by young Sindhi ESL (English as second language learners) learners at the high school. The study aimed to test the hypothesis that the high school English learners do not follow the universal order of grammatical morphemes and to investigate the effect of linguistic interference of L1 (Sindhi) in the acquisition order of English grammatical morphemes. The primary instrument used for data collection in this study was written essays. The time gap between first and second samplings was around three months. A mixed methods research design was utilized. The study used an exploratory-descriptive-qualitative methods coupled with a quantitative as per the objectives of the study corresponding to the research questions. A convenience sampling technique was employed to select participants from 10th Grade level. Specifically, the data was analyzed using the Dulay and Burt (1974) scoring method. The statistical tests were utilized to test the null hypothesis. The data confirmed that they indeed do not follow the universal order of grammatical morphemes. There exists the effect of linguistic inference of L1 in the acquisition order English grammatical morphemes. Finally, the finding is not in line with the sequence as determined by Dulay and Burt (1974), and Brown (1973).

    This study’s main goal is to create a useful software application for finding and classifying fine art photos in museums and art galleries. There is an increasing need for tools to swiftly analyze and arrange art collections based on their artistic styles as a result of the digitization of art collections. To increase the accuracy of the style categorization, the suggested technique involves two parts. The input image is split into five sub-patches in the first stage. A DCNN that has been particularly trained for this task is then used to classify each patch individually. A decision-making module using a shallow neural network is part of the second phase. Probability vectors acquired from the first-phase classifier are used to train this network. The results from each of the five patches are combined in this phase to deduce the final style classification for the input image. One key advantage of this approach is employing probability vectors rather than images, and the second phase is trained separately from the first. This helps compensate for any potential errors made during the first phase, improving accuracy in the final classification. To evaluate the proposed method, six various already-trained CNN models, namely AlexNet, VGG-16, VGG-19, GoogLeNet, ResNet-50, and InceptionV3, were employed as the first-phase classifiers. The second-phase classifier was implemented as a shallow neural network. By using four representative art datasets, experimental trials were conducted using the Australian Native Art dataset, the WikiArt dataset, ILSVRC, and Pandora 18k. The findings showed that the recommended strategy greatly surpassed existing methods in terms of style categorization accuracy and precision. Overall, the study assists in creating efficient software systems for analyzing and categorizing fine art images, making them more accessible to the general public through digital platforms. Using pre-trained models, we were able to attain an accuracy of 90.7. Our model performed better with a higher accuracy of 96.5 as a result of fine-tuning and transfer learning.

    Cousin marriage is an important social institution in many parts of Asia and Africa; yet few studies have looked beyond the health consequences to its role in shaping intrahousehold dynamics. We use a unique survey of households in Pakistan to examine the role of parental consanguinity on education, child work and vaccination, and how those effects differ by gender. We apply ordinary least squares, Tobit, inverse probability weighting with regression adjustment treatment effects and intent-to-treat estimation techniques to a dataset of 1,020 households from 9 districts and control for a rich set of covariates. We model selection into consanguineous marriage using the availability of opposite-gender marriageable cousins. Our results show that the adult children of parents who are first cousins completed fewer years of education and are less likely to have attended school. Educational attainment was curtailed equally for daughters of both marriage arrangements, but consanguineous daughters faced a double burden of consanguinity and gender discrimination. For school-aged children of consanguineous couples, the number of days of school missed is higher in some specifications, but enrolment and educational expenditures are roughly the same as children of parents who are not related or are related more distantly. In contrast, domestic work is somewhat reduced for the offspring of first-cousin parents. Daughters of consanguineous parents are less likely to have received vaccinations, although this effect is weaker in the sample of school-aged children than adult children.

    Abstract This essay examines modern states’ strategic destruction and patronage of Muslim shrines to consolidate majoritarian power. Drawing on Rian Thum’s notion of shrines as “durable sacred geography,” it conceptualizes shrines as active historical agents embedded in expansive transnational networks. Their extensive sacred geography enables shrines to persist as generative fulcrums that sustain meaning by bridging heterogeneous times and spaces despite tumultuous change. Challenging prevalent views of shrines as passive symbols, the essay delineates how the flexible reassembly of tradition across far-reaching networks empowers shrines to endure as pivotal arenas of ritual contestation from the medieval era into modernity. Their astounding continuity relies on mobilizing expansive geographies to creatively reconfigure tradition across eras.

    Information retrieval (IR) is essential in biomedical knowledge acquisition and clinical decision support. While recent progress has shown that language model encoders perform better semantic retrieval, training such models requires abundant query-article annotations that are difficult to obtain in biomedicine. As a result, most biomedical IR systems only conduct lexical matching. In response, we introduce MedCPT, a first-of-its-kind Contrastively Pre-trained Transformer model for zero-shot semantic IR in biomedicine. To train MedCPT, we collected an unprecedented scale of 255 million user click logs from PubMed. With such data, we use contrastive learning to train a pair of closely-integrated retriever and re-ranker. Experimental results show that MedCPT sets new state-of-the-art performance on six biomedical IR tasks, outperforming various baselines including much larger models such as GPT-3-sized cpt-text-XL. In addition, MedCPT also generates better biomedical article and sentence representations for semantic evaluations. As such, MedCPT can be readily applied to various real-world biomedical IR tasks.
