    Authors: Hirsch, Rok;

    Throughout history, Vrhnika has stood as an important outpost at the intersection of major roads ever since Roman times. Until the construction of new transport links (Trieste–Vienna), the Ljubljanica river was one of the main transport routes for shipping goods. Consequently, a strong industry and transportation network flourished in the area. The town and the river played an important role in the operation of the Idrija mercury mine, serving as a storage hub for a substantial amount of grain. The Idrija warehouse, positioned between the once main roads (Ljubljanica and Tržaška cesta), was crucial for the mine in Idrija. Today, the existing building and its surroundings lie abandoned and receive minimal maintenance. This area presents an opportunity for the restoration of a building at the city’s entrance and the revitalisation of the riverside area. This task required an in-depth investigation into the time of construction and usage history of the building. I delved into the significance of the Ljubljanica river in the area and its historical utilisation. Although the building, now degraded, once held significant social and economic value, the need for such a facility no longer exists. The goal is to transform it into a cultural and historical centre through the principles of “adaptive reuse”. The existing structure is renewed and accompanied by the establishment of a new public program. The surroundings of the building are reconfigured into a new public space. By setting up a pavilion by the river, my goal is to create modern architecture intertwined with the existing cultural heritage and surrounding nature. This task aims to breathe new life into the riverside area, highlighting the significance of the Ljubljanica river in Vrhnika’s local history and contributing to the restoration of the existing cultural heritage, i.e. the Idrija warehouse. Vrhnika je bila skozi zgodovino pomembna postojanka na stičišču glavnih prometnic vse od rimljanskih časov naprej. Reka Ljubljanica je bila do izgradnje novih prometnih povezav (Trst–Dunaj) ena od glavnih prometnic za prevažanje in pretovarjanje dobrin, zato sta se v tem kraju razvila močna industrija in prevozništvo. Kraj in reka sta bila pomemben člen v delovanju idrijskega rudnika živega srebra, saj se je tam shranjevalo velike količine žita. Idrijsko skladišče, ki se nahaja med nekoč glavnima prometnicama (Ljubljanico in Tržaško cesto), je bilo ključnega pomena za rudnik v Idriji. Obstoječa stavba in okolica sta danes zapuščeni in samo nujno vzdrževani. Območje predstavlja priložnost za obnovitev stavbe ob vstopu v mesto in revitalizacijo obrečnega prostora. Magistrsko delo je zahtevalo poglobitev v čas gradnje in uporabe stavbe. Raziščem pomen reke Ljubljanice v kraju in zgodovino uporabe reke. Danes degradirana stavba je bila nekoč izjemno pomembna v družbenem in ekonomskem smislu. Danes takšen objekt ni več potreben, zato ga spremenim v kulturno-zgodovinski center po načelih prilagodljive ponovne uporabe (angl. adaptive reuse). Obstoječo stavbo se obnovi in vzpostavi se nov javni program. Uredi se tudi okolico stavbe, ki postane nov javni prostor. S postavitvijo paviljona ob reki želim ustvariti sodobno arhitekturo, ki se navezuje na obstoječo kulturno dediščino in okoliško naravo. Cilj naloge je obuditi obrečni prostor in izpostaviti pomen reke Ljubljanice v kontekstu lokalne zgodovine Vrhnike ter obnoviti obstoječo kulturno dediščino, tj. idrijsko skladišče.

    This work is based upon the collaboration in the COST Action CA18209 – NexusLinguarum “European network for Web-centred linguistic data science”, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Sci- ence and Technology). Marko Robnik-Šikonja received financial support from the Slovenian Research Agency through core research programme P6-0411 and projects J6-2581, J7-3159, and V5-2297. Encar- nación Hidalgo Tenorio was financially supported by the European Social Fund, the Andalusian Gov- ernment, and the University of Granada (Project References: A-HUM-250-UGR18 & P18-FR-5020). Petya Osenova was partially supported by CLaDA-BG, the Bulgarian National Interdisciplinary Re- search e-Infrastructure for Resources and Technologies in favor of the Bulgarian Language and Cultural Heritage, and partially through the EU infrastructures CLARIN and DARIAH, Grant number DO01- 377/18.12.2020. Parliamentary and legislative debate transcripts provide an informative insight into elected politicians’ opinions, positions, and policy preferences. They are interesting for political and social sciences as well as linguistics and natural language processing (NLP) research. While exiting research studied individual parliaments, we apply advanced NLP methods to a joint and comparative analysis of six national parliaments (Bulgarian, Czech, French, Slovene, Spanish, and United Kingdom) between 2017 and 2020. We analyze emotions and sentiment in the transcripts from the ParlaMint dataset collection, and assess if the age, gender, and political orientation of speakers can be detected from their speeches. The results show some commonalities and many surprising differences among the analyzed countries.     Authors: Ivašković, Igor;

    The article examines Slovenian liberal and clerical magazines to analyse the adaptations of the political narratives of the two main Slovenian political parties from the assassination in Sarajevo in 1914 until early in the final stage of World War I in March 1918. Slovenian clericals, who gathered together in the Slovenian People's Party, reacted to the killings in Sarajevo by adopting a strong pro-Habsburg and anti-Serbian position. Their magazines even called for a military invasion of Serbia. In comparison, their primary political competitors on Slovenian soil, the Slovenian liberals congregated in the National Progressive Party and condemned the act of assassination, yet they were critical of the Austrian anti-Serbian policy for having escalated the war. These two Slovenian political parties were also divided on the issue of the future envisioned for the Slovenian nation within South Slavic state formations. The clericals pressed for realization of the trialist idea, which forecast a Croatian–Slovenian state unit within the Habsburg Monarchy with its centre in Zagreb. The liberals, in contrast, dreamed of a larger South Slavic state that would bring all South Slavs together and have its centre in Serbia. The development of the war, chiefly the Entente's foreseeable victory, the threat of implementation of the London Pact, and the fact that Austrian Germans characterized all emancipatory Slovenian political movements as an anti-state element, all worked to force Slovenian clericals to cooperate with their pre-war enemies. The overriding aim was for them to retain their leading position among Slovenians by formally cooperating with the liberal stream, including taking over part of the liberal political strategy, in order to ensure that it was in the best possible position in the South Slavic state at end of the war.

    Authors: Zgaga, Pavel;

    zaradi njene kompleksnosti je poudarek tukaj omejen na primer Slovenije, kljub temu pa upošteva širši kontekst. Poudarek je na razumevanju, zakonodajnem urejanju in na (ne)uresničevanju akademske avtonomije, kot je bila artikulirana med letoma 1945 in 1991. Koncept je podedovan iz preteklosti, nikoli ni bil uporabljen v zakonodaji federativne socialistične Jugoslavije, je pa bil uporabljen v političnih in javnih razpravah. Naša analiza povezuje te razprave s hitro spreminjajočo se visokošolsko zakonodajo in širšim družbenopolitičnim kontekstom. Čeprav je ‘jugoslovanski model’ izginuli model visokega šolstva, so njegovi sledovi in pepel, vključno s starimi protislovji in z dilemami, deloma še vedno prisotni v visokošolskih sistemih samostojnih držav, nastalih na ozemlju nekdanje federacije. Načelo, da je poznavanje preteklosti ključ do razumevanja sedanjosti in približevanja prihodnosti, se potrjuje tudi v tem primeru. because of this complexity, the focus here is limited to the case of Slovenia but considers the broader context. The focus is on the understanding, legislation, and (non-)implementation of academic autonomy as articulated between 1945 and 1991. The concept was inherited: it was never used in the legislation of federal socialist Yugoslavia yet was used in political and public debates. Our analysis relates these debates to the rapidly changing legislation and the broader socio-political context. Although the ‘Yugoslav model’ has vanished, its traces and ashes, including old contradictions and dilemmas, remain partly present in the higher education systems of independent states that emerged on the territory of the former federation. The principle that knowledge of the past is the key to understanding the present and approaching the future is confirmed in this case as well. Ta članek preučuje koncept akademske avtonomije znotraj ‘jugoslovanskega modela’ visokega šolstva kot perifernega sistema, za katerega je značilna eklektična mešanica elementov iz različnih sistemov, kar je med njegovim razvojem povzročalo mutacije z edinstvenimi značilnostmi. Do zdaj premalo raziskana zgodovina tega modela visokega šolstva nikakor ni bila enotna ali linearna This article examines the concept of academic autonomy within the ‘Yugoslav model’ of higher education as a peripheral system characterised by an eclectic mix of elements from different systems, resulting in mutations with unique features during its development. The hitherto under-researched history of this higher education model has by no means been uniform or linear

    Authors: Jana S. ROŠKER;

    There has been a significant amount of research carried out in Slovenia on the revival of Confucianism, particularly since 2012 and 2014, when the first two research projects on this topic were approved. Members of the Department of Asian Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, have been consistently conducting research in Slovenia and various Chinese, Taiwanese, and East Asian archives and libraries. These efforts have led to several important publications in Slovene, English, and even Chinese, and represent an ongoing commitment that continues in the present day. Therefore, it is not surprising that the present special issue of the Slovenian academic journal Asian Studies, focusing on the Confucian revival, already marks the fourth special issue in this area of research.This review article’s objective is thus to summarize the key achievements of Slovenian research in this field and provide a comprehensive overview of the diverse Slovene re-search activities and publications related to Modern New Confucianism. It covers not only research on the revival of Confucianism in China and the broader Sinic region, but also includes Confucian studies in other East Asian regions and the wider Sinic area.     Authors: Dagalev, Deni;

    A multitude of planetary crises have put enormous strain on the reproduction of life on Earth in recent decades. Employment, debt, finance, war, food, energy, climate, biodiversity, health, education – these are but a few acute issues that are shaping and reshaping our ways of being, knowing and doing in twenty-first century everyday life. To comprehend the unfolding of these seemingly disparate crises, the MA thesis looks back at the long and rich history of epoch making class-imperial and geo-managerial projects and regimes of capital accumulation in the successive centuries after 1450. Throughout this thesis, capitalism is viewed not as an economic or social system, but as a world-ecology that merges power, profit and nature in a dialectical unity. Through this approach, I challenge the Cartesian symbolic divide between Society and Nature, which in turn perpetuates the material divide between humans and the rest of nature. As a consequence, Society and Nature are established as two distinctive historical units that develop independently of one another, with the former developing upon, rather than through the latter. This begs the question of whether capitalism and its inner workings of colonialism, imperialism, racial formations, patriarchy, commodification are exclusively social processes with environmental consequences, or whether they are inextricably socio-ecological, at once producers and products of the messy and unruly class struggle in the web of life? Številne planetarne krize so v zadnjih desetletjih močno obremenile reprodukcijo življenja na Zemlji. Zaposlenost, dolg, finance, vojne, hrana, energija, podnebje, biotska raznovrstnost, zdravje, izobraževanje – to je le nekaj perečih vprašanj, ki oblikujejo in preoblikujejo naše načine bivanja, spoznavanja in delovanja v vsakdanjem življenju enaindvajsetega stoletja. Da bi razumeli razplet teh na videz ločenih kriz, se magistrsko delo ozira na dolgo in bogato zgodovino epohalnih razredno-imperialnih in geo-menedžerski projektov ter režimov akumulacije kapitala v zaporednih stoletjih po letu 1450. V celotnem magistrskem delu kapitalizma ne obravnavamo kot ekonomski ali družbeni sistem, temveč kot svetovno-ekologijo, ki združuje moč, profit in naravo v dialektično enotnost. S tem pristopom preizprašujem kartezijansko simbolno razmejitev med Družbo in Naravo, ki po drugi strani perpetuira materialno razmejitev med ljudmi in preostalo naravo. Posledično sta Družba in Narava vzpostavljeni kot dve različni zgodovinski enoti, ki se razvijata neodvisno druga od druge, pri čemer se prva razvija na podlagi druge in ne prek nje. Ob tem se postavlja vprašanje, ali so kapitalizem in njegova notranja delovanja, kot so kolonializem, imperializem, rasne formacije, patriarhat, komodifikacija, izključno družbeni procesi z okoljskimi posledicami ali pa so neločljivo družbeno-ekološki, hkrati proizvajalci in produkti zapletenega in nemirnega razrednega boja v mreži življenja?

    The thesis presents the energy renovation of architectural heritage, using the example of Villa Rožla in Velenje. The legal background and basic concepts in energy renovation and cultural heritage protection are described. As part of the diploma thesis, an analysis of the building's energy efficiency was conducted, for the state before and after the renovation. The effects of energy renovation were analyzed, and both calculated and measured energy certificates were produced. The results of the conducted analyses confirm that the renovation was logical and had numerous positive effects. V diplomski nalogi je predstavljena energetska prenova stavbne dediščine na primeru Vile Rožle v Velenju. Opisano je zakonsko ozadje ter osnovni pojmi na področju energetske prenove in varstva kulturne dediščine. V sklopu diplomske naloge je opravljena analiza energetske učinkovitosti stavbe pred in po prenovi. Analizirani so učinki energetske sanacije ter izdelane računske in merjene energetske izkaznice. Rezultati opravljenih analiz potrjujejo, da je bila energetska prenova smiselna in je prinesla številne pozitivne učinke.

    Authors: Hirsch, Rok;

    This work is based upon the collaboration in the COST Action CA18209 – NexusLinguarum “European network for Web-centred linguistic data science”, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Sci- ence and Technology). Marko Robnik-Šikonja received financial support from the Slovenian Research Agency through core research programme P6-0411 and projects J6-2581, J7-3159, and V5-2297. Encar- nación Hidalgo Tenorio was financially supported by the European Social Fund, the Andalusian Gov- ernment, and the University of Granada (Project References: A-HUM-250-UGR18 & P18-FR-5020). Petya Osenova was partially supported by CLaDA-BG, the Bulgarian National Interdisciplinary Re- search e-Infrastructure for Resources and Technologies in favor of the Bulgarian Language and Cultural Heritage, and partially through the EU infrastructures CLARIN and DARIAH, Grant number DO01- 377/18.12.2020. Parliamentary and legislative debate transcripts provide an informative insight into elected politicians’ opinions, positions, and policy preferences. They are interesting for political and social sciences as well as linguistics and natural language processing (NLP) research. While exiting research studied individual parliaments, we apply advanced NLP methods to a joint and comparative analysis of six national parliaments (Bulgarian, Czech, French, Slovene, Spanish, and United Kingdom) between 2017 and 2020. We analyze emotions and sentiment in the transcripts from the ParlaMint dataset collection, and assess if the age, gender, and political orientation of speakers can be detected from their speeches. The results show some commonalities and many surprising differences among the analyzed countries.     Authors: Ivašković, Igor;

    Authors: Zgaga, Pavel;

    zaradi njene kompleksnosti je poudarek tukaj omejen na primer Slovenije, kljub temu pa upošteva širši kontekst.

    Authors: Jana S. ROŠKER;

    There has been a significant amount of research carried out in Slovenia on the revival of Confucianism, particularly since 2012 and 2014, when the first two research projects on this topic were approved. Members of the Department of Asian Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, have been consistently conducting research in Slovenia and various Chinese, Taiwanese, and East Asian archives and libraries. These efforts have led to several important publications in Slovene, English, and even Chinese, and represent an ongoing commitment that continues in the present day. Therefore, it is not surprising that the present special issue of the Slovenian academic journal Asian Studies, focusing on the Confucian revival, already marks the fourth special issue in this area of research.This review article’s objective is thus to summarize the key achievements of Slovenian research in this field and provide a comprehensive overview of the diverse Slovene re-search activities and publications related to Modern New Confucianism. It covers not only research on the revival of Confucianism in China and the broader Sinic region, but also includes Confucian studies in other East Asian regions and the wider Sinic area.     Authors: Dagalev, Deni;

    Authors: Mićić, Uroš;
