    The Serbian Orthodox Church is considered by a number of Serbian citizens to be the “guardian” of tradition and cultural heritage. Issues related to church reforms are thus often particularly sensitive, and are perceived by some of the public as a danger to the preservation of cultural and religious identity. On the other hand, there are opinions in favor of reforms. In this context, the issue of church calendar reform is of special interest. Although it has been raised for more than a century, is still as relevant as in the first attempts at the reform thereof. This paper explores the attitudes on online platforms in Serbia on this issue. Is the church calendar perceived as an integral part of the cultural heritage? What are the pros and cons of calendar reform? What would be the consequences of its potential change?

    Sacred spaces such as churches and monasteries, in addition to representing generators of religious tradition, also generate local customs and practices. Their erection in a certain place reflects the community’s need for a place of worship, and may be prompted by miraculous events, dreams or apparitions. One such example is the orthodox monastery of the Resurrection of Christ in the village of Dobri Do near Pirot. This place revive every year at Easter when locals prepare Molitva (Prayer) - a lamb stew that is given as a contribution for the health and well-being of the villagers. This custom, which combines Christian and pagan elements, has a tradition that lasts over a hundred years. In the last few years, the custom has grown into a significant event that integrates and mobilizes not only the local community, but also all individuals whose family origins are related to this place. The ethnographic research which I have conducted during the last six years has been focused on the restoration of the monastery, its role and importance in the local community, as well as the transformation of the custom itself, i.e. its adaptation to the Orthodox, church tradition. Sakralni prostori kao što su crkve i manastiri pored toga što predstavljaju generatore religijske tradicije, generišu i lokalne običaje i prakse. Njihovo podizanje na određenom mestu reflektuje potrebu zajednice za prostorom bogosluženja, a može biti podstaknuto čudesnim događajima, snovima ili ukazanjima. Jedan od takvih primera jeste manastir Vaskrsenje Hristovo u selu Dobri Do kod Pirota. Ovaj prostor „oživljava“ svake godine na Uskrs kada se ovde priprema Molitva - jagnjeća čorba koja se daje kao vid priloga za zdravlje i blagostanje meštana sela. Ovaj običaj, koji spaja elemente hrišćanske i narodne religije, ima tradiciju dugu preko sto godina. Poslednjih nekoliko godina običaj prerasta u značajnu manifestaciju koja integriše i mobiliše ne samo lokalnu zajednicu već i sve pojedince čije je porodično poreklo vezano za ovo selo. Etnografska istraživanja tokom poslednjih šest godina, bila su usmerena na obnovu manastira, njegovu ulogu i značaj u lokalnoj sredini, kao i transformaciju samog običaja, odnosno njegovo prilagođavanje pravoslavnoj, crkvenoj tradiciji.     At the turn of the 20th century, there was a striving in Europe to establish a balance between the constructed city fabric and green space. Parks and squares with greenery became just as important as showcase buildings and entities within the city center. This paper investigates Belgrade’s green areas, taking a concise look at their transformation in the historical context: changes in the city center during the 19th century, and concern for health and hygiene in the first half of the 20th century. The paper presents the production of green spaces in Belgrade’s city center through the metamorphosis of devastated and abandoned public and private spaces, and through the creation of new green areas. This paper examines the relationship between culture and nature in Belgrade, within the context of its urban history, and its place values, changed by the new capitalist production of space.

    A story about singing to the accompaniment of the gusle, an element of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Serbia inscribed in the Representative List of the ICH of Humanity in 2018, particularly regarding its safeguarding, is an illustration of the close connection between traditional folk art, education and science. In Serbia, the gusle – a simple, folk, singlestringed instrument – primarily accompanies songs about events from the legendary past, both from the distant and near history, of mythical and historical heroes. The key actor is the guslar – an epic singer who accompanies himself on the gusle. However, the presence of an auditorium – a social context – is an essential condition for this communication with ritual elements.     The Editorial Board of the INSAM Journal of Contemporary Music, Art and Technology decided that both issues of 2022 will be dedicated to one main theme, namely, “Fighting for the attention: Music and art on social media”. We can say that this call for papers went very successfully, as we are now presenting to you INSAM Journal No. 9. In a year which has seen many grave turbulences on socio-economic and political levels on a global scale, we have once again confirmed the importance of social media for communication and the spreading of news, and we have also seen the limitations of these tools. Turning to music and art on social media, our Main Theme section consists of five intriguing papers, Beyond the Main Theme section has two articles, (Inter)Views bring three exciting pieces, and the Reviews one festival report.

    We have before us the sixth issue of INSAM Journal of Contemporary Music, Art and Technology. This is the second issue in a row dedicated to the global crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. After the overwhelming response from all over the world to the call for papers and provocative inspections that ensued, here we wanted to discuss the ways in which technology shapes and enables work in the areas of music, arts, humanities, and the education process, this time inviting our collaborators to discuss the shortcomings and struggles of the working processes in these fields. The main theme, “Music, Art and Humanities in the Time of Global Crisis”, expanded from the Main Theme section into the interviews as well.

    Musicologist and theoretician of art Bojana Radovanović published a monograph dedicated to the problem of experimental voice in contemporary theory and practice, in 2018. Radovanović’s book is based on her Master’s Thesis (further broadened and developed), defended at the Faculty of Media and Communication under the mentorship of Dr. Miško Šuvaković. Focus of the study is on the performance aspects and the voice itself and relies on the work focused on performance, the performative body and the political agency of art, produced in recent years. As for the methodology, the study is transdicisplinary in its character, since the main idea of thinking about experimental voice, its agency and its theoretical understanding ‘flows’ between the disciplines of musicology, performance studies, the theory of arts, psychology, philosophy.

    Built in the depths of the shadowy mountains of Raška, where the progenitor of the Nemanjić dynasty labored to turn a desolate hunting ground of wild beasts into a perfect city of a spiritually sublime life, the Studenica Monastery has for centuries been a cornerstone and continuous source of cultural identity for the Serbian people Written in it, in that silent and sacred past, like some kind of destiny codes, are all the key features of our being. The artistic play of the creators of Studenica’s buildings, their sculptural decoration and wall paintings, achieved a peculiar blend of the finest achievements of the opposite sides of ancient Europe – its West and its East – fueled by the desire to recognize and distinguish the people who created this sanctuary in the time of Saint Simeon and Sava, for its distinctive creative and sacred identity. This tendency is recognized, among others, in the inscriptions accompanying the sculptures and paintings at the Church of the Virgin. It was here, in Studenica, that they were, for the first time in our old art, executed in the Cyrillic script and in the Serbian language. At this time, in Studenica, literature in the Serbian language, with its distinctive themes and motifs, began to develop. Consequently, the Studenica Monastery has since been rightfully recognized as the strongest pillar of the later Serbian state and the cradle of the autocephalous national church whose 800th anniversary is marked by this exhibition. From Studenica, directly or indirectly, almost all of our later culture had grown and branched out for centuries. Countless medieval rulers came back to her as a model and sought to replicate and upgrade her. Many generous endowers, like King Milutin, contributed to it, distinguishing themselves in their donorship. It has forever remained a home of prayer for monks and an inspiring refuge for spiritual rebels, all the way to Djordje Krstić, Nebojša Mitrić or academician Ljubomir Simović. The desire to reach her with their mind and unravel her secrets has driven many prominent representatives of this very home of science and art, such as Mihail Valtrović, Dragutin Milutinović, Vladimir Petković, Vojislav Djurić or Gordana Babić. Studenica has thus become and remained a reliable guidepost and a faithful companion in our quest to find meaning and truth, searching through our own history and beyond. Following this guidepost, engraved deep within our own being, on the paths that for centuries led us to various parts of the world, the Serbian people have been crucified and scattered, lost and reinvented, but have not vanished or ceased to be what they are. The messages whispered by the ancient buildings of Studenica, which we sometimes as a nation could not understand or decipher, were preserved hidden, carved into the deepest layers of our memories and feelings, serving as a spiritual anchor in turbulent times. Whether we noticed it or not, Studenica was with us when we went too far or when we stood still, trapped by fear and lack of self-respect. As a result of this exhibition, she is still with us, again only partially tangible and attainable, inviting us to, while admiring and thinking about her, reexamine ourselves and reach a deeper understanding of who we are.     The Serbian Orthodox Church is considered by a number of Serbian citizens to be the “guardian” of tradition and cultural heritage. Issues related to church reforms are thus often particularly sensitive, and are perceived by some of the public as a danger to the preservation of cultural and religious identity. On the other hand, there are opinions in favor of reforms. In this context, the issue of church calendar reform is of special interest. Although it has been raised for more than a century, is still as relevant as in the first attempts at the reform thereof. This paper explores the attitudes on online platforms in Serbia on this issue. Is the church calendar perceived as an integral part of the cultural heritage? What are the pros and cons of calendar reform? What would be the consequences of its potential change?

    Sacred spaces such as churches and monasteries, in addition to representing generators of religious tradition, also generate local customs and practices. Their erection in a certain place reflects the community’s need for a place of worship, and may be prompted by miraculous events, dreams or apparitions. One such example is the orthodox monastery of the Resurrection of Christ in the village of Dobri Do near Pirot. This place revive every year at Easter when locals prepare Molitva (Prayer) - a lamb stew that is given as a contribution for the health and well-being of the villagers. This custom, which combines Christian and pagan elements, has a tradition that lasts over a hundred years. In the last few years, the custom has grown into a significant event that integrates and mobilizes not only the local community, but also all individuals whose family origins are related to this place. The ethnographic research which I have conducted during the last six years has been focused on the restoration of the monastery, its role and importance in the local community, as well as the transformation of the custom itself, i.e. its adaptation to the Orthodox, church tradition. Sakralni prostori kao što su crkve i manastiri pored toga što predstavljaju generatore religijske tradicije, generišu i lokalne običaje i prakse. Njihovo podizanje na određenom mestu reflektuje potrebu zajednice za prostorom bogosluženja, a može biti podstaknuto čudesnim događajima, snovima ili ukazanjima. Jedan od takvih primera jeste manastir Vaskrsenje Hristovo u selu Dobri Do kod Pirota. Ovaj prostor „oživljava“ svake godine na Uskrs kada se ovde priprema Molitva - jagnjeća čorba koja se daje kao vid priloga za zdravlje i blagostanje meštana sela. Ovaj običaj, koji spaja elemente hrišćanske i narodne religije, ima tradiciju dugu preko sto godina. Poslednjih nekoliko godina običaj prerasta u značajnu manifestaciju koja integriše i mobiliše ne samo lokalnu zajednicu već i sve pojedince čije je porodično poreklo vezano za ovo selo. Etnografska istraživanja tokom poslednjih šest godina, bila su usmerena na obnovu manastira, njegovu ulogu i značaj u lokalnoj sredini, kao i transformaciju samog običaja, odnosno njegovo prilagođavanje pravoslavnoj, crkvenoj tradiciji.     At the turn of the 20th century, there was a striving in Europe to establish a balance between the constructed city fabric and green space. Parks and squares with greenery became just as important as showcase buildings and entities within the city center. This paper investigates Belgrade’s green areas, taking a concise look at their transformation in the historical context: changes in the city center during the 19th century, and concern for health and hygiene in the first half of the 20th century. The paper presents the production of green spaces in Belgrade’s city center through the metamorphosis of devastated and abandoned public and private spaces, and through the creation of new green areas. This paper examines the relationship between culture and nature in Belgrade, within the context of its urban history, and its place values, changed by the new capitalist production of space.

    A story about singing to the accompaniment of the gusle, an element of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Serbia inscribed in the Representative List of the ICH of Humanity in 2018, particularly regarding its safeguarding, is an illustration of the close connection between traditional folk art, education and science. In Serbia, the gusle – a simple, folk, singlestringed instrument – primarily accompanies songs about events from the legendary past, both from the distant and near history, of mythical and historical heroes. The key actor is the guslar – an epic singer who accompanies himself on the gusle. However, the presence of an auditorium – a social context – is an essential condition for this communication with ritual elements.     The Editorial Board of the INSAM Journal of Contemporary Music, Art and Technology decided that both issues of 2022 will be dedicated to one main theme, namely, “Fighting for the attention: Music and art on social media”. We can say that this call for papers went very successfully, as we are now presenting to you INSAM Journal No. 9. In a year which has seen many grave turbulences on socio-economic and political levels on a global scale, we have once again confirmed the importance of social media for communication and the spreading of news, and we have also seen the limitations of these tools. Turning to music and art on social media, our Main Theme section consists of five intriguing papers, Beyond the Main Theme section has two articles, (Inter)Views bring three exciting pieces, and the Reviews one festival report.
