    The Editorial Board of the INSAM Journal of Contemporary Music, Art and Technology decided that both issues of 2022 will be dedicated to one main theme, namely, “Fighting for the attention: Music and art on social media”. We can say that this call for papers went very successfully, as we are now presenting to you INSAM Journal No. 9. In a year which has seen many grave turbulences on socio-economic and political levels on a global scale, we have once again confirmed the importance of social media for communication and the spreading of news, and we have also seen the limitations of these tools. Turning to music and art on social media, our Main Theme section consists of five intriguing papers, Beyond the Main Theme section has two articles, (Inter)Views bring three exciting pieces, and the Reviews one festival report.

    In the present article I offer a narratological approach to Byzantine historiography and an aim to elucidate the key elements of narrative theory that would be useful for investigating medieval Byzantine histories and their complex narrative structures. The focus is put on the key narratological aspects - genre, author, text and the audience - as those elements represent the core of literary criticism and contemporary studies of Byzantine literature. Through useful examples from the Alexiad, I intend to show how this theoretical vehicle functions and I hope to open a new field of scholarly communication on the matter of approach towards Byzantine historiography.

    We have before us the sixth issue of INSAM Journal of Contemporary Music, Art and Technology. This is the second issue in a row dedicated to the global crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. After the overwhelming response from all over the world to the call for papers and provocative inspections that ensued, here we wanted to discuss the ways in which technology shapes and enables work in the areas of music, arts, humanities, and the education process, this time inviting our collaborators to discuss the shortcomings and struggles of the working processes in these fields. The main theme, “Music, Art and Humanities in the Time of Global Crisis”, expanded from the Main Theme section into the interviews as well.

    The paper is devoted to the Byzantine wooden sculpture, least known and conserved segment of artistic creativity in Byzantine empire. All such artefacts, well known to experts for a long time, are commented in the text. These art objects are observed in comparison to the so-called minor sculpture as well as to the other other types of sculpture. Also special emphasis is on the problems of style of the sculptural works in question.

    The couple of issues of the INSAM Journal of Contemporary Music, Art and Technology planned for this year – of which the issue before us, No. 8, is the first one – are dedicated to the theme titled “Fighting for the attention: Music and art on social media”. This theme also leans on the previous ones that dealt with music and art in times of crisis or the relationship between music and art with mental health in contemporary society.     The ethnographic area of Haná in Central Moravia (Czech Republic) has been among distinctive ethnographic regions since the 16th century. Even though traditional regional forms had gradually disappeared as a consequence of the modernization of village life, these returned alongside new functions in terms of national consciousness from the late 19th century. It was the intelligentsia, mainly teachers, priests, physicians and artists, who contributed to the spread of these forms. The personalities´ activities did not stop even in the 20th century. The teacher Marie Pachtová (born 1932) is an example of one such person (in study by Miroslav Válka). She not only led a children´s folklore ensemble, moderated programmes aimed at presentation of folklore, and worked as a lector, but she also tries to involve older folk traditions of Haná in the present cultural calendar of the town where she lives. Among other things, she was instrumental in the preservation of the production of Easter eggs from Haná which are decorated with stuck-on straw. She paid similar attention to the ceremonial pastries. With the focus of this example, it is possible to prove the transformations of regional culture´s expression into the contemporary social life as well as the mechanism of the creation of a new tradition.

    This paper gives an overview of the history of Belgrade from the reign of Justinian I (527-565), i.e. the time of Slavic settlement, to the Ottoman conquest in 1521. The millennium can be divided into three thematic and chronological units: the Byzantine era (up to 1204), the Serbian era and, finally, the Ottoman era (fifteenth-sixteenth centuries). Within the Byzantine cultural orbit, and especially during the twelfth century, the city played a major role in the relations between the Byzantine Empire and Hungary. Byzantine emperors sojourned in Belgrade on multiple occasions. The city reached its peak during the reign of Despot Stefan in the early fifteenth century. After his death in 1427, the Ottoman threat cast its shadow over the city. Its inhabitants, the Serbs, defended Belgrade for almost a century (1427-1521), thus defending the whole of Central Europe. Belgrade’s fall into the Ottoman hands was followed by the demise of the Kingdom of Hungary in 1526. Even Vienna was threatened by the Ottomans, in 1529.

    Dr. Lazar K. Lazarević (1851-1890, Julian calendar / 1891, Gregorian calendar) was an exceptional Serbian physician, scientist, writer and translator. During his short life and his close to 11-year-long professional career (1879-1890), Dr. Lazarević authored 78 scientific papers and presentations in various branches of medicine. His greatest contribution to the field of neurology and to medical science in general is his description of the straight leg raising test. The article titled “Ischiac postica Cotunnii - One contribution to its differential diagnosis” was published in the Serbian language (in Cyrillic alphabet) in the Serbian Archives of Medicine in 1880. The article was translated to German and republished in Vienna in 1884 in Allgemeine Wiener medizinische Zeitung. The straight leg raising test is usually called Lasègue’s test/sign, after the French clinician Charles Lasègue, although he never described it. However, there are numerous authors who admit that Lasègue never published the description of the straight leg raising test, and instead give full credits for its discovery to Dr. Lazarević. Our objective in this article is to highlight the major literature written by foreign scientists who give credit to Dr. Lazarević for his contribution to medical science.

    Otorhinolaryngology Clinic, which is an integral part of Vojvodina Clinical Centre, is the first teaching base of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology from 1964. It was founded only four years after the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, pursuant to the faculty’s decision. From the beginning and until now ninety professors and assistants were their consistent part. The Department of Otorhinolaryngology joined the organization of the teaching process at the Faculty of Medicine, according to the Bologna Declaration’s guidelines from 2005. Since this year 2017, the teachers of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology will conduct theoretical and practical teaching in ten teaching subjects in the Serbian language as a part of the first degree studies. For the purpose of taking specialist exams from 2016, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology has two specialist commissions, and from the previous period a commission for the examination of narrow specializations in audiology and phoniatry. The Department od Otorhinolaryngology celebrated 50th anniversary since its establishment in 2014 year. The Department of Otorhinolaryngology has been and now is a nursery for the best personnel in the field of Otorhinolaryngology in Serbia and in Vojvodina. Through the decades of its existence success can be seen through numerous student awards and recognitions which are the best proof for continuous work on acquiring new and expanding existing knowledge.

    Tourism development planning requires consideration of indicators regarding the intensity of tourist activity within destination and measure that should not be exceeded in further improvement of this activity, in order to prevent disturbing the needs of local community and sustainability of local environment. The village Zlakusa is located within the territory of the City of Užice and it represents an important tourism destination of South-western Serbia. Rural tourism of Zlakusa is characterized by its authenticity and recognition, regarding the pottery and ethnopark called “Terzića avlija”. Accordingly, tourist function indicators were used in this research: tourist accommodation density, Defert Baretje’s index, Charvat’s index and Schneider’s index, with the aim of emphasizing the importance of rural potentials of Zlakusa for tourism development within this village, but also within the whole territory of the City of Užice. Research results showed that tourism is important industry within Zlakusa, with necessity of its further affirmation on tourist market and its adaptation to contemporary needs of modern tourists. Also, research results showed that Zlakusa participates in total tourist arrivals with 18%, as well as in total tourist overnights with 13% and it comprises 1.9% of accommodation capacities of the overall tourism development within the City of Užice for observed period (2008-2016). Therefore, results of this study actually show that Zlakusa is highly oriented towards tourism industry, which is the main reason of necessity for further improvement of conditions for its development, especially in the case of rural tourism, without threatening the local community and local environment.     The Editorial Board of the INSAM Journal of Contemporary Music, Art and Technology decided that both issues of 2022 will be dedicated to one main theme, namely, “Fighting for the attention: Music and art on social media”. We can say that this call for papers went very successfully, as we are now presenting to you INSAM Journal No. 9. In a year which has seen many grave turbulences on socio-economic and political levels on a global scale, we have once again confirmed the importance of social media for communication and the spreading of news, and we have also seen the limitations of these tools. Turning to music and art on social media, our Main Theme section consists of five intriguing papers, Beyond the Main Theme section has two articles, (Inter)Views bring three exciting pieces, and the Reviews one festival report.

    In the present article I offer a narratological approach to Byzantine historiography and an aim to elucidate the key elements of narrative theory that would be useful for investigating medieval Byzantine histories and their complex narrative structures. The focus is put on the key narratological aspects - genre, author, text and the audience - as those elements represent the core of literary criticism and contemporary studies of Byzantine literature. Through useful examples from the Alexiad, I intend to show how this theoretical vehicle functions and I hope to open a new field of scholarly communication on the matter of approach towards Byzantine historiography.

    We have before us the sixth issue of INSAM Journal of Contemporary Music, Art and Technology. This is the second issue in a row dedicated to the global crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. After the overwhelming response from all over the world to the call for papers and provocative inspections that ensued, here we wanted to discuss the ways in which technology shapes and enables work in the areas of music, arts, humanities, and the education process, this time inviting our collaborators to discuss the shortcomings and struggles of the working processes in these fields. The main theme, “Music, Art and Humanities in the Time of Global Crisis”, expanded from the Main Theme section into the interviews as well.

    The paper is devoted to the Byzantine wooden sculpture, least known and conserved segment of artistic creativity in Byzantine empire. All such artefacts, well known to experts for a long time, are commented in the text. These art objects are observed in comparison to the so-called minor sculpture as well as to the other other types of sculpture. Also special emphasis is on the problems of style of the sculptural works in question.

    The ethnographic area of Haná in Central Moravia (Czech Republic) has been among distinctive ethnographic regions since the 16th century. Even though traditional regional forms had gradually disappeared as a consequence of the modernization of village life, these returned alongside new functions in terms of national consciousness from the late 19th century. It was the intelligentsia, mainly teachers, priests, physicians and artists, who contributed to the spread of these forms. The personalities´ activities did not stop even in the 20th century. The teacher Marie Pachtová (born 1932) is an example of one such person (in study by Miroslav Válka). She not only led a children´s folklore ensemble, moderated programmes aimed at presentation of folklore, and worked as a lector, but she also tries to involve older folk traditions of Haná in the present cultural calendar of the town where she lives. Among other things, she was instrumental in the preservation of the production of Easter eggs from Haná which are decorated with stuck-on straw. She paid similar attention to the ceremonial pastries. With the focus of this example, it is possible to prove the transformations of regional culture´s expression into the contemporary social life as well as the mechanism of the creation of a new tradition.

    This paper gives an overview of the history of Belgrade from the reign of Justinian I (527-565), i.e. the time of Slavic settlement, to the Ottoman conquest in 1521. The millennium can be divided into three thematic and chronological units: the Byzantine era (up to 1204), the Serbian era and, finally, the Ottoman era (fifteenth-sixteenth centuries). Within the Byzantine cultural orbit, and especially during the twelfth century, the city played a major role in the relations between the Byzantine Empire and Hungary. Byzantine emperors sojourned in Belgrade on multiple occasions. The city reached its peak during the reign of Despot Stefan in the early fifteenth century. After his death in 1427, the Ottoman threat cast its shadow over the city. Its inhabitants, the Serbs, defended Belgrade for almost a century (1427-1521), thus defending the whole of Central Europe. Belgrade’s fall into the Ottoman hands was followed by the demise of the Kingdom of Hungary in 1526. Even Vienna was threatened by the Ottomans, in 1529.

    Dr. Lazar K. Lazarević (1851-1890, Julian calendar / 1891, Gregorian calendar) was an exceptional Serbian physician, scientist, writer and translator. During his short life and his close to 11-year-long professional career (1879-1890), Dr. Lazarević authored 78 scientific papers and presentations in various branches of medicine. His greatest contribution to the field of neurology and to medical science in general is his description of the straight leg raising test. The article titled “Ischiac postica Cotunnii - One contribution to its differential diagnosis” was published in the Serbian language (in Cyrillic alphabet) in the Serbian Archives of Medicine in 1880. The article was translated to German and republished in Vienna in 1884 in Allgemeine Wiener medizinische Zeitung. The straight leg raising test is usually called Lasègue’s test/sign, after the French clinician Charles Lasègue, although he never described it. However, there are numerous authors who admit that Lasègue never published the description of the straight leg raising test, and instead give full credits for its discovery to Dr. Lazarević. Our objective in this article is to highlight the major literature written by foreign scientists who give credit to Dr. Lazarević for his contribution to medical science.

    Otorhinolaryngology Clinic, which is an integral part of Vojvodina Clinical Centre, is the first teaching base of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology from 1964. It was founded only four years after the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, pursuant to the faculty’s decision. From the beginning and until now ninety professors and assistants were their consistent part. The Department of Otorhinolaryngology joined the organization of the teaching process at the Faculty of Medicine, according to the Bologna Declaration’s guidelines from 2005. Since this year 2017, the teachers of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology will conduct theoretical and practical teaching in ten teaching subjects in the Serbian language as a part of the first degree studies. For the purpose of taking specialist exams from 2016, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology has two specialist commissions, and from the previous period a commission for the examination of narrow specializations in audiology and phoniatry. The Department od Otorhinolaryngology celebrated 50th anniversary since its establishment in 2014 year. The Department of Otorhinolaryngology has been and now is a nursery for the best personnel in the field of Otorhinolaryngology in Serbia and in Vojvodina. Through the decades of its existence success can be seen through numerous student awards and recognitions which are the best proof for continuous work on acquiring new and expanding existing knowledge.
