    A lot of interaction between humans take place on social media. Groups and communities are sometimes formed both with and without intention. These interactions generate a large quantity of text data. This project aims to detect dissimilarity in discourse between communities on social media using a distributed approach. A data set of tweets was used to test and evaluate the method. Tweets produced from two communities were extracted from the data set. Two Natural Language Processing techniques were used to vectorise the tweets for each community. Namely LIWC, dictionary based on knowledge acquired from professionals in linguistics and psychology, and BERT, an embedding model which uses machine learning to present words and sentences as a vector of decimal numbers. These vectors were then used as representations of the text to measure the similarity of discourse between the communities. Both distance and similarity were measured. It was concluded that none of the combinations of measure or vectorisation method that was tried could detect a dissimilarity in discourse on social media for the sample data set.

    Background: There is increased interest in using artificial intelligence (AI) to provide participation-focused pediatric re/habilitation. Existing reviews on the use of AI in participation-focused pediatric re/habilitation focus on interventions and do not screen articles based on their definition of participation. AI-based assessments may help reduce provider burden and can support operationalization of the construct under investigation. To extend knowledge of the landscape on AI use in participation-focused pediatric re/habilitation, a scoping review on AI-based participation-focused assessments is needed. Objective: To understand how the construct of participation is captured and operationalized in pediatric re/habilitation using AI. Methods: We conducted a scoping review of literature published in Pubmed, PsycInfo, ERIC, CINAHL, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, ProQuest Dissertation and Theses, ACL Anthology, AAAI Digital Library, and Google Scholar. Documents were screened by 2–3 independent researchers following a systematic procedure and using the following inclusion criteria: (1) focuses on capturing participation using AI; (2) includes data on children and/or youth with a congenital or acquired disability; and (3) published in English. Data from included studies were extracted [e.g., demographics, type(s) of AI used], summarized, and sorted into categories of participation-related constructs. Results: Twenty one out of 3,406 documents were included. Included assessment approaches mainly captured participation through annotated observations (n = 20; 95%), were administered in person (n = 17; 81%), and applied machine learning (n = 20; 95%) and computer vision (n = 13; 62%). None integrated the child or youth perspective and only one included the caregiver perspective. All assessment approaches captured behavioral involvement, and none captured emotional or cognitive involvement or attendance. Additionally, 24% (n = 5) of the assessment approaches captured participation-related constructs like activity competencies and 57% (n = 12) captured aspects not included in contemporary frameworks of participation. Conclusions: Main gaps for future research include lack of: (1) research reporting on common demographic factors and including samples representing the population of children and youth with a congenital or acquired disability; (2) AI-based participation assessment approaches integrating the child or youth perspective; (3) remotely administered AI-based assessment approaches capturing both child or youth attendance and involvement; and (4) AI-based assessment approaches aligning with contemporary definitions of participation.

    Labeling is the process of giving a set of data a descriptive name. This thesis dealt with documents with no additional information and aimed at clustering them using topic modeling and labeling them using Wikipedia as a second source. Labeling documents is a new field with many potential solutions. This thesis examined one method in a practical setting. Unstructured data was preprocessed and clustered using a topic model. Frequent words from each cluster were used to generate a search query sent to Wikipedia, where titles and categories from the most relevant pages were stored as candidate labels. Each candidate label was evaluated based on the frequency of common cluster words among the candidate labels. The frequency was weighted proportional to the relevance of the original Wikipedia article. The relevance was based on the order of appearance in the search results. The five labels with the highest scores were chosen to describe the cluster. The clustered documents consisted of exam questions that students use to practice before a course exam. Each question in the cluster was scored by someone experienced in the relevant topic by evaluating if one of the five labels correctly described the content. The method proved unreliable, with only one course receiving labels considered descriptive for most of its questions. A significant problem was the closely related data with all documents belonging to one overarching category instead of a dataset containing independent topics. However, for one dataset, 80 % of the documents received a descriptive label, indicating that labeling using secondary sources has potential, but needs to be investigated further.  Märkning handlar om att ge okända data en beskrivning. I denna uppsats behandlas data i form av dokument som utan ytterligare information klustras med temamodellering samt märks med hjälp av Wikipedia som en sekundär källa. Märkning av dokument är ett nytt forskningsområde med flera tänkbara vägar framåt. I denna uppsats undersöks en möjlig metod i en praktisk miljö. Dokumenten förbehandlas och grupperas i kluster med hjälp av en temamodell. Vanliga ord från varje kluster används sedan för att generera en sökfråga som skickas till Wikipedia där titlar och kategorier från de mest relevanta sidorna lagras som kandidater. Varje kandidat utvärderas sedan baserat på frekvensen av kandidatordet bland titlarna i klustret och relevansen av den ursprungliga Wikipedia-artikeln. Relevansen av artiklarna baserades på i vilken ordning de dök upp i sökresultatet. De fem märkningarna med högst poäng valdes ut för att beskriva klustret. De klustrade dokumenten bestod av tentamensfrågor som studenter använder sig av för att träna inför ett prov. Varje fråga i klustret utvärderades av någon med erfarenhet av det i frågan behandlade ämnet. Utvärderingen baserades på om någon av de fem märkningarna ansågs beskriva innehållet. Metoden visade sig vara opålitlig med endast en kurs som erhöll märkningar som ansågs beskrivande för majoriteten av dess frågor. Ett stort problem var att data var nära relaterad med alla dokument tillhörande en övergripande kategori i stället för oberoende ämnen. För en datamängd fick dock 80 % av dokumenten en beskrivande etikett. Detta visar att märkning med hjälp av sekundära källor har potential, men behöver undersökas ytterligare.

    This chapter studies examples of confrontations between missionary guests and pagan host communities on the Baltic Rim from the late tenth to mid-twelfth centuries to uncover the spatial dynamics and intercultural articulations of hospitality in Christianization contexts. In terms of method, the chapter focuses on the functional, political, and symbolic mechanisms structuring collective production spaces of hospitality during such encounters. The addressed problems consider how spaces of hospitality were practically and discursively produced and negotiated through such meetings. It delves also into the ways arrival of this special type of Christian strangers and guests was contained in terms of power relations and security measures. And, finally, how these interactions involved and oscillated between hospitable and hostile attitudes. The results point out the deeply ambiguous, volatile, and heavily contested nature of spaces of hospitality in the Christianization of the Baltic Rim, both for missionary agents and for the host communities receiving/rejecting them.

    The aim of this study is to analyse and interpret the distribution of white-ground lekythoi with a known context from the 5th century BCE. Exploring white-ground lekythoi in context is a complex matter, as many lekythoi lack archaeological documentation. The purpose of this study is to locate and map white-ground lekythoi with available archaeological documentation in order to lay the groundwork of their geographical distribution and interpret how they were used and could have been viewed from a socio-economic perspective in different regions. The study has shown that white-ground lekythoi were distributed throughout the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Levant, and have been found in various contexts such as funerary, domestic and religious space depending on the region. The chronological distribution indicates that white-ground lekythoi were popular in locations such as Eretria, Gela and Macedonia, before becoming adopted in Attic funerary activities during the second half of the century. This suggests a more multifunctional use of the vessel than only being a funerary libation vessel which is the traditional scholarly approach to the vessel’s function. Lastly, this thesis addresses the value of white-ground lekythoi. The hypothesis is put forward that the vessels increased in value when being found in limited numbers and with what could be considered luxurious artefacts made for both a local and foreign market. Målet med denna studie är att analysera och tolka fördelningen av vit-grundiga lekyter med en känd kontext från 500-talet f.v.t. Undersökningar av vit-grundiga lekyter med en känd kontext är en komplex fråga då många av kärlen saknar arkeologisk dokumentation. Syftet med studien är att lokalisera och kartlägga vit-grundiga lekyter med tillgänglig arkeologisk dokumentation för att lägga grunden för deras geografiska utspridning och tolka hur de användes och kunde ha blivit sedda från ett socio-ekonomiskt perspektiv i olika regioner. Studien har visat att vit-grundiga lekyter distribuerades över Medelhavet, Svarta havet och Levanten och har hittats i olika kontexter som gravar, bosättningar, och helgedomar beroende på region. Den kronologiska fördelningen indikerar att vit-grundiga lekyter var populära i områden som Eretria, Gela och Makedonien, innan de antogs i Attiska begravningsaktiviteter under andra hälften av seklet. Detta tyder på en mer multifunktionell användning av kärlen än enbart ämnat för begravningsaktiviteter som är den traditionella vetenskapliga tolkningen av kärlets funktion. Hypotesen framförs att vit-grundiga lekyter ökade i värde när de hittades i begränsat antal och tillsammans med vad man som kan betraktas som lyxiga artefakter gjorda för både en lokal och utländsk marknad.

    The large-scale transatlantic mobility of students, teachers, and researchers is a twentieth-century phenomenon that has contributed to the reshaping of international cultural, economic, and political relations into the twenty-first century. Through and as part of this development, the United States transformed into a powerful and influential country on the global stage. As a large, populous, and industrialized nation, the United States has been significant both as a funder of international mobility and as a destination for foreign students and scholars. Sweden, a small, peripheral country in Northern Europe, has had a long relationship with the United States. Amidst the mass migration of peoples from several European countries to North America in the mid-nineteenth century to the 1920s, over one million Swedes migrated to the United States. The connections made through this migration, combined with the growing economic, industrial, and cultural resources of the United States, led to a renewed desire to maintain and improve relations between the two countries from the early twentieth century. This study investigates the development of scholarship programs in Sweden and the United States and their role in the academic exchange between these two countries from 1912–1980. Set against broader cultural, economic, and political processes that increased the scale and complexity of academic mobility in the twentieth century, this study explains how scholarships facilitated and structured flows of people and knowledge. The relationships between three parts of scholarship programs are analyzed: their purposes, organizational frameworks and praxis, and scholarship awards. The analysis employs three points of departure: rationales for internationalization, historical institutionalism, and symbolic capital. Annual reports and scholarship holder documentation are the two main types of sources. Annual reports were used to create a historical timeline of the purposes that drove the founding of organizations and the establishment of scholarship programs to understand the institution of scholarship-funded academic mobility in the twentieth century. Scholarship holder documentation was used to create two datasets of scholarship awards from 1912–1944 and 1945–1979, which were analyzed using descriptive statistics to find patterns and trends in scholarship awards. The results show that the scholarship programs in this study structured complex and asymmetrical flows of people and knowledge between Sweden and the United States in the twentieth century. In the first period, private foundations were the main providers of scholarships and were steered by an array of cultural, academic, and economic purposes. After World War II, and especially during the Cold War, scholarship programs were submitted to the politicization and regulation of the United States government as transatlantic academic mobility became an increasingly widespread practice. The combined and overlapping purposes that steered scholarship-awarding from 1912–1980 facilitated the rise of particular individuals, types of knowledge, higher education institutions, and industries in Sweden and the United States. In addition, the asymmetrical distribution of these scholarships, in which three times as many Swedes traveled to the United States than the reverse, gradually structured a dependence on the academic, economic, and technological resources of the United States.

    A lot of interaction between humans take place on social media. Groups and communities are sometimes formed both with and without intention. These interactions generate a large quantity of text data. This project aims to detect dissimilarity in discourse between communities on social media using a distributed approach. A data set of tweets was used to test and evaluate the method. Tweets produced from two communities were extracted from the data set. Two Natural Language Processing techniques were used to vectorise the tweets for each community. Namely LIWC, dictionary based on knowledge acquired from professionals in linguistics and psychology, and BERT, an embedding model which uses machine learning to present words and sentences as a vector of decimal numbers. These vectors were then used as representations of the text to measure the similarity of discourse between the communities. Both distance and similarity were measured. It was concluded that none of the combinations of measure or vectorisation method that was tried could detect a dissimilarity in discourse on social media for the sample data set.

    Background: There is increased interest in using artificial intelligence (AI) to provide participation-focused pediatric re/habilitation. Existing reviews on the use of AI in participation-focused pediatric re/habilitation focus on interventions and do not screen articles based on their definition of participation. AI-based assessments may help reduce provider burden and can support operationalization of the construct under investigation. To extend knowledge of the landscape on AI use in participation-focused pediatric re/habilitation, a scoping review on AI-based participation-focused assessments is needed. Objective: To understand how the construct of participation is captured and operationalized in pediatric re/habilitation using AI. Methods: We conducted a scoping review of literature published in Pubmed, PsycInfo, ERIC, CINAHL, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, ProQuest Dissertation and Theses, ACL Anthology, AAAI Digital Library, and Google Scholar. Documents were screened by 2–3 independent researchers following a systematic procedure and using the following inclusion criteria: (1) focuses on capturing participation using AI; (2) includes data on children and/or youth with a congenital or acquired disability; and (3) published in English. Data from included studies were extracted [e.g., demographics, type(s) of AI used], summarized, and sorted into categories of participation-related constructs. Results: Twenty one out of 3,406 documents were included. Included assessment approaches mainly captured participation through annotated observations (n = 20; 95%), were administered in person (n = 17; 81%), and applied machine learning (n = 20; 95%) and computer vision (n = 13; 62%). None integrated the child or youth perspective and only one included the caregiver perspective. All assessment approaches captured behavioral involvement, and none captured emotional or cognitive involvement or attendance. Additionally, 24% (n = 5) of the assessment approaches captured participation-related constructs like activity competencies and 57% (n = 12) captured aspects not included in contemporary frameworks of participation. Conclusions: Main gaps for future research include lack of: (1) research reporting on common demographic factors and including samples representing the population of children and youth with a congenital or acquired disability; (2) AI-based participation assessment approaches integrating the child or youth perspective; (3) remotely administered AI-based assessment approaches capturing both child or youth attendance and involvement; and (4) AI-based assessment approaches aligning with contemporary definitions of participation.

    Labeling is the process of giving a set of data a descriptive name. This thesis dealt with documents with no additional information and aimed at clustering them using topic modeling and labeling them using Wikipedia as a second source. Labeling documents is a new field with many potential solutions. This thesis examined one method in a practical setting. Unstructured data was preprocessed and clustered using a topic model. Frequent words from each cluster were used to generate a search query sent to Wikipedia, where titles and categories from the most relevant pages were stored as candidate labels. Each candidate label was evaluated based on the frequency of common cluster words among the candidate labels. The frequency was weighted proportional to the relevance of the original Wikipedia article. The relevance was based on the order of appearance in the search results. The five labels with the highest scores were chosen to describe the cluster. The clustered documents consisted of exam questions that students use to practice before a course exam. Each question in the cluster was scored by someone experienced in the relevant topic by evaluating if one of the five labels correctly described the content. The method proved unreliable, with only one course receiving labels considered descriptive for most of its questions. A significant problem was the closely related data with all documents belonging to one overarching category instead of a dataset containing independent topics. However, for one dataset, 80 % of the documents received a descriptive label, indicating that labeling using secondary sources has potential, but needs to be investigated further.  Märkning handlar om att ge okända data en beskrivning. Märkning av dokument är ett nytt forskningsområde med flera tänkbara vägar framåt. I denna uppsats undersöks en möjlig metod i en praktisk miljö. Dokumenten förbehandlas och grupperas i kluster med hjälp av en temamodell. Vanliga ord från varje kluster används sedan för att generera en sökfråga som skickas till Wikipedia där titlar och kategorier från de mest relevanta sidorna lagras som kandidater. Varje kandidat utvärderas sedan baserat på frekvensen av kandidatordet bland titlarna i klustret och relevansen av den ursprungliga Wikipedia-artikeln. Relevansen av artiklarna baserades på i vilken ordning de dök upp i sökresultatet. De fem märkningarna med högst poäng valdes ut för att beskriva klustret. De klustrade dokumenten bestod av tentamensfrågor som studenter använder sig av för att träna inför ett prov. Varje fråga i klustret utvärderades av någon med erfarenhet av det i frågan behandlade ämnet. Utvärderingen baserades på om någon av de fem märkningarna ansågs beskriva innehållet. Metoden visade sig vara opålitlig med endast en kurs som erhöll märkningar som ansågs beskrivande för majoriteten av dess frågor. Ett stort problem var att data var nära relaterad med alla dokument tillhörande en övergripande kategori i stället för oberoende ämnen. För en datamängd fick dock 80 % av dokumenten en beskrivande etikett. Detta visar att märkning med hjälp av sekundära källor har potential, men behöver undersökas ytterligare.

    This chapter studies examples of confrontations between missionary guests and pagan host communities on the Baltic Rim from the late tenth to mid-twelfth centuries to uncover the spatial dynamics and intercultural articulations of hospitality in Christianization contexts. In terms of method, the chapter focuses on the functional, political, and symbolic mechanisms structuring collective production spaces of hospitality during such encounters. The addressed problems consider how spaces of hospitality were practically and discursively produced and negotiated through such meetings. It delves also into the ways arrival of this special type of Christian strangers and guests was contained in terms of power relations and security measures. And, finally, how these interactions involved and oscillated between hospitable and hostile attitudes. The results point out the deeply ambiguous, volatile, and heavily contested nature of spaces of hospitality in the Christianization of the Baltic Rim, both for missionary agents and for the host communities receiving/rejecting them.

    The aim of this study is to analyse and interpret the distribution of white-ground lekythoi with a known context from the 5th century BCE. Exploring white-ground lekythoi in context is a complex matter, as many lekythoi lack archaeological documentation. The purpose of this study is to locate and map white-ground lekythoi with available archaeological documentation in order to lay the groundwork of their geographical distribution and interpret how they were used and could have been viewed from a socio-economic perspective in different regions. The study has shown that white-ground lekythoi were distributed throughout the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Levant, and have been found in various contexts such as funerary, domestic and religious space depending on the region. The chronological distribution indicates that white-ground lekythoi were popular in locations such as Eretria, Gela and Macedonia, before becoming adopted in Attic funerary activities during the second half of the century. This suggests a more multifunctional use of the vessel than only being a funerary libation vessel which is the traditional scholarly approach to the vessel’s function. Lastly, this thesis addresses the value of white-ground lekythoi. The hypothesis is put forward that the vessels increased in value when being found in limited numbers and with what could be considered luxurious artefacts made for both a local and foreign market. Målet med denna studie är att analysera och tolka fördelningen av vit-grundiga lekyter med en känd kontext från 500-talet f.v.t. Undersökningar av vit-grundiga lekyter med en känd kontext är en komplex fråga då många av kärlen saknar arkeologisk dokumentation. Syftet med studien är att lokalisera och kartlägga vit-grundiga lekyter med tillgänglig arkeologisk dokumentation för att lägga grunden för deras geografiska utspridning och tolka hur de användes och kunde ha blivit sedda från ett socio-ekonomiskt perspektiv i olika regioner. Studien har visat att vit-grundiga lekyter distribuerades över Medelhavet, Svarta havet och Levanten och har hittats i olika kontexter som gravar, bosättningar, och helgedomar beroende på region. Den kronologiska fördelningen indikerar att vit-grundiga lekyter var populära i områden som Eretria, Gela och Makedonien, innan de antogs i Attiska begravningsaktiviteter under andra hälften av seklet. Detta tyder på en mer multifunktionell användning av kärlen än enbart ämnat för begravningsaktiviteter som är den traditionella vetenskapliga tolkningen av kärlets funktion. Hypotesen framförs att vit-grundiga lekyter ökade i värde när de hittades i begränsat antal och tillsammans med vad man som kan betraktas som lyxiga artefakter gjorda för både en lokal och utländsk marknad.

    The large-scale transatlantic mobility of students, teachers, and researchers is a twentieth-century phenomenon that has contributed to the reshaping of international cultural, economic, and political relations into the twenty-first century. Through and as part of this development, the United States transformed into a powerful and influential country on the global stage. As a large, populous, and industrialized nation, the United States has been significant both as a funder of international mobility and as a destination for foreign students and scholars. Sweden, a small, peripheral country in Northern Europe, has had a long relationship with the United States. Amidst the mass migration of peoples from several European countries to North America in the mid-nineteenth century to the 1920s, over one million Swedes migrated to the United States. The connections made through this migration, combined with the growing economic, industrial, and cultural resources of the United States, led to a renewed desire to maintain and improve relations between the two countries from the early twentieth century. This study investigates the development of scholarship programs in Sweden and the United States and their role in the academic exchange between these two countries from 1912–1980. Set against broader cultural, economic, and political processes that increased the scale and complexity of academic mobility in the twentieth century, this study explains how scholarships facilitated and structured flows of people and knowledge. The relationships between three parts of scholarship programs are analyzed: their purposes, organizational frameworks and praxis, and scholarship awards. The analysis employs three points of departure: rationales for internationalization, historical institutionalism, and symbolic capital. Annual reports and scholarship holder documentation are the two main types of sources. Annual reports were used to create a historical timeline of the purposes that drove the founding of organizations and the establishment of scholarship programs to understand the institution of scholarship-funded academic mobility in the twentieth century. Scholarship holder documentation was used to create two datasets of scholarship awards from 1912–1944 and 1945–1979, which were analyzed using descriptive statistics to find patterns and trends in scholarship awards. The results show that the scholarship programs in this study structured complex and asymmetrical flows of people and knowledge between Sweden and the United States in the twentieth century. In the first period, private foundations were the main providers of scholarships and were steered by an array of cultural, academic, and economic purposes. After World War II, and especially during the Cold War, scholarship programs were submitted to the politicization and regulation of the United States government as transatlantic academic mobility became an increasingly widespread practice. The combined and overlapping purposes that steered scholarship-awarding from 1912–1980 facilitated the rise of particular individuals, types of knowledge, higher education institutions, and industries in Sweden and the United States. In addition, the asymmetrical distribution of these scholarships, in which three times as many Swedes traveled to the United States than the reverse, gradually structured a dependence on the academic, economic, and technological resources of the United States.
