Cultural heritage has traditionally been studied within two realms: that of the nation-state, and that of other institutionalising bodies such as UNESCO. Scholars have highlighted a tendency in the area of heritage to prioritise heritage practitioners and the state over heritage users in the heritage creation processes (Harrison Citation2013). Works by critical heritage scholars, such as Laurajane Smith's (Citation2016; Citation2021), have enabled a critical approach to these institutionalised discourses on heritage, oriented towards the listings and canonising of what deserves to be heritage. The thaw introduced by the development of critical heritage studies has enabled a shift from heritage as an ‘authorised discourse’ to other forms of heritage practices. This ‘performative turn’ in heritage studies (Harrison Citation2013; Macdonald Citation2013; Smith Citation2016) has encouraged scholars to look at heritage beyond institutional lenses. In doing so, the materiality of heritage has been questioned (yet not rejected – see Smith Citation2016). Monuments, heritage sites and landscapes have started to be seen as a pretext for performing heritage and the main focus of critical heritage scholars has shifted to the actions of individuals and groups when engaging with heritage. This has further relegated heritage objects and sites to the role of supporting heritage processes, rather than its core focus. The processual nature of heritage has been recognised and highlighted, along with its dependence on meaning-making and the mobilisations/actions of the individuals engaging with it. In other words, what people do with heritage, what meaning it gains through the everyday negotiations of its users, has become more important than its materiality and the institutionalised narratives about it.

Web 2.0 platforms, like wikis and social networks, rely on crowdsourced data and, as such, are prone to data manipulation by ill-intended contributors. This research proposes the transparent identification of wiki manipulators through the classification of contributors as benevolent or malevolent humans or bots, together with the explanation of the attributed class labels. The system comprises: (i) stream-based data pre-processing; (ii) incremental profiling; and (iii) online classification, evaluation and explanation. Particularly, the system profiles contributors and contributions by combining features directly collected with content- and side-based engineered features. The experimental results obtained with a real data set collected from Wikivoyage – a popular travel wiki – attained a 98.52 % classification accuracy and 91.34 % macro F-measure. In the end, this work seeks to address data reliability to prevent information detrimental and manipulation.

Abstract The 23rd of January 2019 marked the beginning of the Venezuelan Presidential Crisis, a unique socio-political conflict that confronted Nicolás Maduro, president of Venezuela, to the self-proclaimed leader Juan Guaidó. This paper explores the divisive power of conceptual metaphors in this context through the analysis of polarising metaphors, namely, metaphors that conceptualise ‘Us’ positively and/or ‘Them’ negatively. More specifically, from a corpus-based critical socio-cognitive perspective (Musolff 2016; Soares da Silva 2020; Charteris-Black 2011), this study looks at the main polarising metaphors of Maduro and Guaidó’s political discourses and examines their role in the discursive construction of ideological polarisation, social identities, and legitimacy using a target-based approach (Stefanowitsch and Gries 2006). The results show that both leaders strategically use polarising metaphors, especially those of CONFRONTATION, HUMAN BEING and JOURNEY, to reproduce their ideologies, reinforce their social identities, and legitimise their political positions.

Abstract: This article explores the flight of indigenous communities from Philippine lowlands into mountain spaces, a frequent and widespread response to Spanish colonization in the seventeenth century. During this period, indigenous zones of refuge were not exceptional but present in almost every part of Luzon and the Visayas. The shared history of flight and resistance frustrated the ambitions of Spanish missionaries and military commanders for much of the colonial period and beyond. In the uplands, indigenous communities made use of local geographies and ecologies to bolster their resistance and maintain their autonomy. In dialogue with recent scholarship on colonial frontiers and indigenous hinterlands, this article challenges the perception of a colonial dominance that spread inexorably across the archipelago in the seventeenth century. It offers a new perspective on the history of colonization and confronts the perceived upland-lowland divide that has typified Southeast Asian historiography, demonstrating that upland and lowland spaces had shared histories of resistance, migration, and trade throughout the colonial period.

The Portuguese city of Amadora hosts the first national registry of an immigrant Intangible Cultural Heritage to this day: the Kola San Jon celebration in the self-built neighbourhood of Alto da Cova da Moura. Many other practices, events, manifestations, and arts could be recognised as immigrant cultural heritage in this city, yet only a few are indeed recognised and supported by the municipality. Through the analysis of four ‘vignettes’, I suggest that municipalities shape a soft policy for immigrant integration by harnessing such apolitical, folklore traditions celebrated by the various immigrant groups present in the city as part of its city branding strategy and policy internationalisation. In other words, cultural heritage is exploited to serve purposes other than communal tradition, to promote the city’s profile. To that aim, this article examines local migrant cultural heritage policies in relation to urban development using the concept of ‘intercultural heritage’ as a critique. By intercultural heritage, I mean heritage practices that are adopted by public institutions to rebrand and legitimise their immigration agenda in cities with a very heterogenous demographic.

AbstractEven though the university has the potential to help humanity in what amounts to a paradigmatic transition, it has been very restrictive and very selective in the kinds of knowledges it validates. In fact, the kinds of knowledges in which it has excelled are those most responsible for the paradigmatic crisis in which humanity finds itself. In a nutshell, the paradigmatic change calls for cognitive justice, justice for the different ways of knowing that circulate in society. Cognitive justice is the polar opposite of ‘anything goes’. The assumption is that there is no global social justice without global cognitive justice, justice among knowledges. Looking back, while privileging one specific kind of knowledge and, indeed, granting it a cognitive monopoly, the university has been the privileged site for producing and legitimating cognitive injustice. As a result, the immense epistemic diversity of the world has been ignored or suppressed. In the following, I identify the problem and the promise for overcoming it.

Le projet MORDigital vise à encoder les éditions du Diccionario de Lingua Portugueza d'António de Morais Silva, publié pour la première fois en 1789. Les objectifs ultimes sont, d'une part, de promouvoir l'accessibilité au patrimoine culturel tout en favorisant la réutilisation et, d'autre part, contribuer à une présence plus significative du contenu numérique lexicographique en portugais à travers des outils en libre accès et des standards. Le dictionnaire Morais représente un patrimoine important, puisqu'il marque le début des dictionnaires portugais, ayant servi de modèle à toute la production lexicographique ultérieure. L'équipe suit un nouveau paradigme en lexicographie, qui résulte de la convergence entre la lexicographie, la terminologie, la linguistique computationnelle et les ontologies en tant que partie intégrante des humanités numériques et des données (ouvertes) liées. Dans le contexte portugais, cette recherche comble une lacune concernant les dictionnaires rétro-numérisés consultables en ligne, construits sur des normes et des méthodologies actuelles qui favorisent le partage et l'harmonisation des données, à savoir TEI Lex-0. L'équipe assurera en outre la connexion aux autres systèmes et ressources lexicales existants, en particulier dans le monde lusophone. Abstract MORDigital project aims to encode the selected editions of Diccionario de Lingua Portugueza by António de Morais Silva, first published in 1789. Our ultimate goals are, on the one hand, to promote accessibility to cultural heritage while fostering reusability and, on the other hand, to contribute towards a more significant presence of lexicographic digital content in Portuguese through open tools and standards. The Morais dictionary represents a significant legacy, since it marks the beginning of Portuguese dictionaries, having served as a model for all subsequent lexicographic production. The team follows a new paradigm in lexicography, which results from the convergence between lexicography, terminology, computational linguistics, and ontologies as an integral part of digital humanities and linked (open) data. In the Portuguese context, this research fills a gap concerning searchable online retrodigitized dictionaries, built on current standards and methodologies which promote data sharing and harmonization, namely TEI Lex-0. The team will further ensure the connection to other existing systems and lexical resources, particularly in the Portuguese-speaking world. International audience
