    Authors: Vích, David; Skalický, Zdeněk; Šmejdíř, Jan;

    In 2017–2020, rescue archaeological research continued on the deposits above the preserved basement rooms of the western palace of the castle in Brandýs nad Orlicí. The exca vation yielded evidence of the presence of tiled stoves, crown window glass, non-combustible roofing in the form of fragments of barrel tiles and ceramic square tiles that once covered the floors of the upper stories. The interiors of the rooms yielded a diverse variety of kitchen ceramics, metal objects and numerous fragments of hollow glassware.

    Authors: Pavel Drnovský;

    The study deals with an aristocratic residence located near the village of Lhota Svatogothardská near Hořice in the Podkrkonoší region. The original name of the castle is unknown and is referred to by its folk name – Pustohrad. In the past, undocumented excavations and a series of surface surveys were carried out on the site. The subject of the work is the evaluation of available archaeological finds. Ceramic finds make it possible to chronologically determine up to the course of the 14th century with possible overlaps into the previous and following century. Documented arrowheads correspond to this determination. The site can likely be associated with the numerous written references to members of the lower nobility, who used the name of the village Lhota as a part of their surnames.

    Authors: Kéhar, Ota;

    Contemporary Trends in Physics Teacher Education is a scientific conference with international participation (so far, foreign participants participated on all conferences, both passively or actively, from Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Austria, and Slovenia). Conference is intended for experts dealing with theoretical questions of didactics of physics, as well as teachers from all levels and types of schools, including faculties preparing physics teachers. The first conference took place at the Srní Hotel in the village Srní in the Klatovy District in April 2003. The ninth one was held in April 2019 at the Šumava Hotel in the Amálie Valley near Kašperské Hory. Due to pandemic measures, the tenth conference had to be postponed multiple times (originally scheduled for April 2021, traditionally held every two years in an odd year). The venue had to be changed as well (the Šumava Hotel in the Amálie Valley has been closed to the public for an extended period and it is designated for the purposes of the Ministry of the Interior). Therefore, participants gathered in late April and beginning of May 2023 at the same place where it all started 20 years ago. Let us now recall each conference and see some statistics. Moderní trendy v přípravě učitelů fyziky je vědecká konference s mezinárodní účastí (zatím se pokaždé podařilo získat zahraniční účastníky, ať se jednalo o pasivní nebo aktivní účast; byli ze Slovenska, z Polska, z Německa, z Rakouska či ze Slovinska) určená jednak odborníkům, kteří se zabývají teoretickými otázkami didaktiky fyziky, ale také učitelům všech stupňů a typů škol včetně fakult připravujících učitele fyziky. První ročník této konference se konal v hotelu Srní ve stejnojmenné obci Srní v okrese Klatovy v dubnu 2003. Devátý ročník se uskutečnil v dubnu 2019 v hotelu Šumava v Amálině údolí nedaleko Kašperských Hor. Jubilejní desátý ročník se z důvodu pandemických opatření několikrát odkládal (původně měl být tradičně po dvou letech, v lichém roce, tedy v dubnu 2021). Nakonec bylo nutné změnit i místo konání (hotel Šumava v Amálině údolí je totiž dlouhodobě uzavřen pro veřejnost a je vyčleněn pro účely ministerstva vnitra). Proto se účastníci na přelomu dubna a května 2023 sešli na stejném místě, kde to všechno před 20 lety začalo. Pojďme si připomenout jednotlivé ročníky moderních trendů a podívat se na pár statistických čísel.

    Authors: Martin Gojda;

    From the 17th to the 19th century, a score of military events, campaigns and battles took place in the Czech lands, leaving numerous traces and distinctly changing the appearance of the cultural landscape in some regions. The results of long-term aerial-archeological surveys in the Czech lands have demonstrated that this detection method is advantageous in identifying buried sites built in the past in the context of military conflicts. Experience hitherto has made it possible to label archeological remote sensing as a collection of the potentially most effective methods for uncovering sites of field fortifications dated to the modern period and the beginning of the industrial era. This includes finds of both solitary sites and segments of strategically built fortification lines. This paper is an attempt to critically evaluate these hitherto recorded landmarks which have been discovered and documented via aerial prospection from the 1990s to the present. At the same time, this study reflects on the possibilities offered by the modern methods of remote sensing which have played a significant role in the discovery, mapping, documentation, digital terrain modelling, and the 3D virtual reconstructions of these sites.

    AbstractWe characterised the microstructure of sandstone from the Msene locality (Czech Republic) by combining X-ray computed micro-tomography, back-scattered electron imaging, chemical composition analysis and textural analysis and gas permeation. Both, 2D and 3D images were commonly processed by linking an anisotropic non-linear diffusion filter and a segmentation method based on power watershed. This approach guaranteed binarised outputs that were almost the same in wide ranges of spatial-filter and power-watershed parameters, i.e., subjective choices of the parameters played the negligible role. The rock pore structure was found to be statistically homogeneous and almost isotropic with perfectly connected pore space. We also partitioned the void and solid phases into either grains or pores and throats, which enabled us to study characteristic sizes and connectivity of partitioned regions. By comparing pore and throat sizes, we demonstrated the significant convergent-divergent nature of the pore space because the throat size covered at most one half of the total surface area per pore (cavity). In addition, we calculated coordination numbers for all pores (cavities) to verify almost perfect connectivity of internal pores with those at the external surface. Effective (macroscopic) transport properties of the reconstructed pore space were simulated and the results were validated by experimentally observing steady state flow of inert gas. These findings appear to be a favorable starting point for future investigation of consolidation procedures. The well-connected pore structure with minimum occurrence of dead-end pores suggests that the consolidation agent is very likely to flood the whole pore space.

    Authors: Vích, David; Skalický, Zdeněk; Šmejdíř, Jan;

    Authors: Pavel Drnovský;

    Authors: Kéhar, Ota;

    Authors: Martin Gojda;
