    In semantic typology, colexification refers to words with multiple meanings, either related (polysemy) or unrelated (homophony). Studies of cross-linguistic colexification have yielded insights into, e.g., psychology, historical linguistics and cognitive science (Xu et al., 2020; Brochhagen and Boleda, 2022; Schapper and Koptjevskaja-Tamm, 2022). While NLP research up until now has mainly focused on integrating syntactic typology (Naseem et al., 2012; Ponti et al., 2019; Chaudhary et al., 2019; Üstün et al., 2020; Ansell et al., 2021; Oncevay et al., 2022), we here investigate the potential of incorporating semantic typology, of which colexification is an example. We propose a framework for constructing a large-scale synset graph and learning language representations with node embedding algorithms. We demonstrate that cross-lingual colexification patterns provide a distinct signal for modelling language similarity and predicting typological features. Our representations achieve a 9.97% performance gain in predicting lexico-semantic typological features and expectantly contain a weaker syntactic signal. This study is the first attempt to learn language representations and model language similarities using semantic typology at a large scale, setting a new direction for multilingual NLP, especially for low-resource languages.

    Research topic/aimThe project aim was to explore the learning potentials in 3D-sculpting for art teachers through identifying new image-making processes in modelling and sculpturing. The aim was further to integrate the outcome of the project in didactics and teaching activities for art education teachers connected to subject area. The project was a collaboration between universities and partners carried out between the years 2020-2022: Aalborg university and College University Copenhagen in Denmark, Umeå university and Gothenburg university in Sweden. Research questions - How does the creation process, starting with creation of a sculpture by a analogue manual mastery of a material, transform into a digital format?- How does the linear creation process, governed by material qualities, take new directions from the point where the creation of the sculpture takes place via programming and 2D testing?Theoretical frameworkThe process of sculpting can be seen as a transformation of subject-related competences, since manual aesthetic modelling skills are replaced with aesthetic coding skills, and there is no bodily contact with material (Sack, 2019). The sculpture produced by digital intervention is not a replacement of a known sculptural process, but a new image-making process. Technology creates a division between the hand, tool and material and introduces distance between bodily perceptions and the object, but it also involves a pattern of thought connected to programming skills. From a visual arts perspective, this may reinforce students’ programming skills or it allows students who are more skilled in programming than art to express themselves visually. From the perspective of technology comprehension this may meet the overall learning objectives of technological capacity building and the subject specific learning objective of programming and construction (Buhl & Skov, 2020). MethodThe project focused on 3D-modelling and explored how the use of digital technology may contribute to form new perspectives on the classical sculpture techniques of adding, carving or modelling analogue materials. The development project was primarily linked to art teacher education in the partner institutions, secondly to teaching visual arts in primary and secondary schools. The project was organized as a combination of online instructions, offline activities and online discussion forums. The theoretical framework is based on insights from studies in computational thinking in art education, and visual culture studies. Further the project was aiming at improving the participants image-making competence within sculpturing and 3D technology through the use of the program TinkerCad.Result The project contributed to enhancement of knowledge of visual 3D-modelling, photogrammetry and use of TinkerCad among art teacher educators and stimulated to 3D projects in the school subject visual arts as a platform for developing visual competence, modelling and sculpting. The project activities contributed at overcoming the focus on technological implications of the 3D practices and instead study the sculptural qualities from using the technology artistically as well as looking at the didactic implementation.Relevance for Nordic educationThe outcome of the development project will feed into a Nordic discussion about how digital technology not only adds new tools for visual arts production but may transform existing modes of visual expression and sensitive cognition.

    Authors: Omeni, Akali;

    This article examines the institutional pathology of corruption within the Nigerian Navy, and its broader manifestation and implications within Nigeria’s maritime industry. Beginning with an examination of the disappearance of the vessel, MT African Pride, in October 2003, the article reflects on the African Pride case to show that far from being a one-off incident, it was indicative of the opportunism and criminality that naval operations within the oil-rich Niger Delta have generated. Other primary case studies relevant to corruption within Nigeria’s maritime industry, and interrogated by the article, include the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). The article shall also examine a range of secondary case studies. These are relatively brief meditations on incidents, individuals and maritime industry private contractors and government parastatals, which are relevant to the debate to naval and maritime corruption in Nigeria.

    This study is intended to support the Danish elementary school history classes in teaching pupils about the Bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807. The study included 22 pupils from two classes. One class with 11 pupils was included in the experimental study, which used a serious game to communicate the learning objectives of the topic. One class with 11 pupils served as the control group and used a more traditional approach with readings from the history textbook.The evaluation was based on a knowledge test with learning objectives from the curriculum. Additionally, the gaming engagement was evaluated in the experimental group through a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The gamedesign was focused on intuitiveness, clear goals, and narrative engagement; which was revealed in the findings with the highest score from the gaming-engagement questions. Further, the results revealed higher understanding of specific learning objectives in the experimental gaming group compared to the control group. Previous research has the same findings, but there is a lack of improved suggestions for how to make the perfect match between game content and learning, as well as a lack of improved methods when evaluating games with children or early teens.

    Information retrieval and recommender systems are deployed in real world environments. Therefore, to get a real feeling for the system, we should study their characteristics in “real world studies”. This raises the question: What does it mean for a study to be realistic? Does it mean the user has to be a real user of the system or can anyone participate in a study of the system? Does it mean the system needs to be perceived as realistic by the user? Does it mean the manipulations need to be perceived as realistic by the user?

    Authors: Thorsen, Sofie;

    “Expanding Data Imaginaries in Urban Planning” synthesizes more than three years of industrial research conducted within Gehl and the Techno–Anthropology Lab at Aalborg University. Through practical experiments with social media images, digital photovoice, and participatory mapmaking, the project explores how visual materials created by citizens can be used within a digital and participatory methodology to reconfigure the empirical ground of data-driven urbanism. Drawing on a data feminist framework, the project uses visual research to elevate community voices and situate urban issues in lived experiences. As a Science and Technology Studies project, the PhD also utilizes its industrial position as an opportunity to study Gehl’s practices up close, unpacking collectively held narratives and visions that form a particular “data imaginary” and contribute to the production and perpetuation of the role of data in urban planning. The dissertation identifies seven epistemological commitments that shape the data imaginary at Gehl and act as discursive closures within their practice. To illustrate how planners might expand on these, the dissertation uses its own data experiments as speculative demonstrations of how to make alternative modes of knowing cities possible through participatory and digital visual methods.

    Commentators claim that drug repositioning (ie developing new uses for authorised drugs) significantly slows when generics are authorised and, therefore, law reform is necessary to encourage more R&D. This study empirically examines this claim by analysing records of clinical trials. It finds that once generics are authorised: i) commercial trials continue at ‘active’ rates for approximately half of the drugs studied, and ii) the number of hospital and university trials actually increases. These findings cast doubt on whether additional incentives are needed. They also indicate that a more effective way to reposition drugs is for recently established government programmes to embrace IP strategies and leverage the hospital and university trials as an R&D pipeline.Keywords: drug repositioning, patent law, regulatory protection, clinical trials, empirical study, generic drugs.

The root source playing a vital role in online education is none other than Information Technology, having rapidly developed over the years with number of applications such as google class, WhatsApp, zoom, MS Teams and other information media, helping us lecturers to stay in touch with the students (Viner et al., 2020). It is obvious that Computer Hardware Configuration, Computer Operating System, Internet Browser, Software Applications, Internet connection and Internet speed take leading roles in online learning and teaching. At University, robust wired and wireless networks are available almost anywhere and computer labs have specialized software required for the students’ majors. But when the students moving off from the traditional way of learning to online learning remotely appeared challenging as the access to technologies dropped significantly, especially for the ICT classes. To access the success of online learning based on available technological resources, this study evaluated the (i) student’s internet connection capability, (ii) the availability of learning devices and software, and (iii) the student’s interest in online learning because of various online activities provided. Data is collected using a cross-sectional research methodology, mainly the online record survey method. Keywords: Online Learning, Bandwidth, Learning Devices, A’Sharqiyah University, Oman. ABSTRACT Custodial death is the most ominous indicator in our country's capture, detention, and remand. It has now become all the rage across the country. Deaths in police custody usually generate a great deal of public attention and are frequently coupled with causality disputes. Accused individuals frequently come into encounter with the criminal justice system, with those suffering from mental illnesses over-represented in police custody. As a result, identifying vulnerability is critical in order to guarantee that proper precautions may be put in place. This research is helping to show that to prevent such a curse from afflicting society, the country has some existing legislation, directions, guidelines, and precedents that are constantly derived from court decisions of other nations. The judicial system in Bangladesh is no exception. In context of this, the research examined, with the goal of emphasizing on judicial reforms, applicable legislation and their implementation, national legislative framework, and court precedents on the banning of inhumane custodial torture, including arrest, custody, and remand by police. Finding of the research particularly concentrate upon irregularities of provision to safeguarding accused right in the jail. The lack of sanitation, healthcare, standard food quality also found as errors of concern authorities. Beside these normal and natural death also counted as death in custody but not due to torture by police. The political believes and support nurture by police is also one of the key reasons to increasing torture and deaths. To solve these problems state should amend existing provision which is contradictory related to custodial torture, Increase the circumference of Human Rights Commission and give them power to investigate these properly and follow the guidelines given by courts. This research demonstrated a real-life scenario of custodial torture and critically analyzed national mechanisms that directly contradict custodial deaths and brutal punishment. {"references": ["'Police Custody Deaths In Bangladesh: An Analysis Of Legal Liability' (2022) IV Indian Journal of Law and Legal Research", "Police Custody Deaths In Bangladesh: An Analysis Of Legal Liability.

Oman Telecom Operators Country Intelligence Report Retrieved from https://www.market research.com/GlobalData-v3648/Oman-Telecom-Operators-Country-Intelligence-14344863/"]} Abstract: Online education, proven very efficient in the recent years, has two main components, namely Online learning, and Online teaching, which, in order to be successful to the optimum level, require appropriate resources.
