    The foundation models based on pre-training technology have significantly advanced artificial intelligence from theoretical to practical applications. These models have facilitated the feasibility of computer-aided diagnosis for widespread use. Medical contrastive vision-language pre-training, which does not require human annotations, is an effective approach for guiding representation learning using description information in diagnostic reports. However, the effectiveness of pre-training is limited by the large-scale semantic overlap and shifting problems in medical field. To address these issues, we propose the Knowledge-Boosting Contrastive Vision-Language Pre-training framework (KoBo), which integrates clinical knowledge into the learning of vision-language semantic consistency. The framework uses an unbiased, open-set sample-wise knowledge representation to measure negative sample noise and supplement the correspondence between vision-language mutual information and clinical knowledge. Extensive experiments validate the effect of our framework on eight tasks including classification, segmentation, retrieval, and semantic relatedness, achieving comparable or better performance with the zero-shot or few-shot settings.     The notion of word embedding plays a fundamental role in natural language processing (NLP). However, pre-training word embedding for very large-scale vocabulary is computationally challenging for most existing methods. In this work, we show that with merely a small fraction of contexts (Q-contexts)which are typical in the whole corpus (and their mutual information with words), one can construct high-quality word embedding with negligible errors. Mutual information between contexts and words can be encoded canonically as a sampling state, thus, Q-contexts can be fast constructed. Furthermore, we present an efficient and effective WEQ method, which is capable of extracting word embedding directly from these typical contexts. In practical scenarios, our algorithm runs 11$\sim$13 times faster than well-established methods. By comparing with well-known methods such as matrix factorization, word2vec, GloVeand fasttext, we demonstrate that our method achieves comparable performance on a variety of downstream NLP tasks, and in the meanwhile maintains run-time and resource advantages over all these baselines.     Weakly-supervised text classification aims to induce text classifiers from only a few user-provided seed words. The vast majority of previous work assumes high-quality seed words are given. However, the expert-annotated seed words are sometimes non-trivial to come up with. Furthermore, in the weakly-supervised learning setting, we do not have any labeled document to measure the seed words' efficacy, making the seed word selection process "a walk in the dark". In this work, we remove the need for expert-curated seed words by first mining (noisy) candidate seed words associated with the category names. We then train interim models with individual candidate seed words. Lastly, we estimate the interim models' error rate in an unsupervised manner. The seed words that yield the lowest estimated error rates are added to the final seed word set. A comprehensive evaluation of six binary classification tasks on four popular datasets demonstrates that the proposed method outperforms a baseline using only category name seed words and obtained comparable performance as a counterpart using expert-annotated seed words.     Music genre classification is a widely researched topic in music information retrieval (MIR). Being able to automatically tag genres will benefit music streaming service providers such as JOOX, Apple Music, and Spotify for their content-based recommendation. However, most studies on music classification have been done on western songs which differ from Thai songs. Lukthung, a distinctive and long-established type of Thai music, is one of the most popular music genres in Thailand and has a specific group of listeners. In this paper, we develop neural networks to classify such Lukthung genre from others using both lyrics and audios. Words used in Lukthung songs are particularly poetical, and their musical styles are uniquely composed of traditional Thai instruments. We leverage these two main characteristics by building a lyrics model based on bag-of-words (BoW), and an audio model using a convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture. We then aggregate the intermediate features learned from both models to build a final classifier. Our results show that the proposed three models outperform all of the standard classifiers where the combined model yields the best $F_1$ score of 0.86, allowing Lukthung classification to be applicable to personalized recommendation for Thai audience.     Dependency parsing (DP) is a task that analyzes text for syntactic structure and relationship between words. DP is widely used to improve natural language processing (NLP) applications in many languages such as English. Previous works on DP are generally applicable to formally written languages. However, they do not apply to informal languages such as the ones used in social networks. Therefore, DP has to be researched and explored with such social network data. In this paper, we explore and identify a DP model that is suitable for Thai social network data. After that, we will identify the appropriate linguistic unit as an input. The result showed that, the transition based model called, improve Elkared dependency parser outperform the others at UAS of 81.42%. 7 Pages, 8 figures, to be published in The 14th International Joint Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (iSAI-NLP 2019)

    Image captioning has received significant attention with remarkable improvements in recent advances. Nevertheless, images in the wild encapsulate rich knowledge and cannot be sufficiently described with models built on image-caption pairs containing only in-domain objects. In this paper, we propose to address the problem by augmenting standard deep captioning architectures with object learners. Specifically, we present Long Short-Term Memory with Pointing (LSTM-P) --- a new architecture that facilitates vocabulary expansion and produces novel objects via pointing mechanism. Technically, object learners are initially pre-trained on available object recognition data. Pointing in LSTM-P then balances the probability between generating a word through LSTM and copying a word from the recognized objects at each time step in decoder stage. Furthermore, our captioning encourages global coverage of objects in the sentence. Extensive experiments are conducted on both held-out COCO image captioning and ImageNet datasets for describing novel objects, and superior results are reported when comparing to state-of-the-art approaches. More remarkably, we obtain an average of 60.9% in F1 score on held-out COCO~dataset. Comment: CVPR 2019

    Automatically describing a video with natural language is regarded as a fundamental challenge in computer vision. The problem nevertheless is not trivial especially when a video contains multiple events to be worthy of mention, which often happens in real videos. A valid question is how to temporally localize and then describe events, which is known as "dense video captioning." In this paper, we present a novel framework for dense video captioning that unifies the localization of temporal event proposals and sentence generation of each proposal, by jointly training them in an end-to-end manner. To combine these two worlds, we integrate a new design, namely descriptiveness regression, into a single shot detection structure to infer the descriptive complexity of each detected proposal via sentence generation. This in turn adjusts the temporal locations of each event proposal. Our model differs from existing dense video captioning methods since we propose a joint and global optimization of detection and captioning, and the framework uniquely capitalizes on an attribute-augmented video captioning architecture. Extensive experiments are conducted on ActivityNet Captions dataset and our framework shows clear improvements when compared to the state-of-the-art techniques. More remarkably, we obtain a new record: METEOR of 12.96% on ActivityNet Captions official test set. CVPR 2018 Spotlight, Rank 1 in ActivityNet Captions Challenge 2017

    Previous studies have found that a significant number of bug reports are misclassified between bugs and non-bugs, and that manually classifying bug reports is a time-consuming task. To address this problem, we propose a bug reports classification model with N-gram IDF, a theoretical extension of Inverse Document Frequency (IDF) for handling words and phrases of any length. N-gram IDF enables us to extract key terms of any length from texts, these key terms can be used as the features to classify bug reports. We build classification models with logistic regression and random forest using features from N-gram IDF and topic modeling, which is widely used in various software engineering tasks. With a publicly available dataset, our results show that our N-gram IDF-based models have a superior performance than the topic-based models on all of the evaluated cases.     Word segmentation is the first step of any tasks in Vietnamese language processing. This paper reviews stateof-the-art approaches and systems for word segmentation in Vietnamese. To have an overview of all stages from building corpora to developing toolkits, we discuss building the corpus stage, approaches applied to solve the word segmentation and existing toolkits to segment words in Vietnamese sentences. In addition, this study shows clearly the motivations on building corpus and implementing machine learning techniques to improve the accuracy for Vietnamese word segmentation. According to our observation, this study also reports a few of achivements and limitations in existing Vietnamese word segmentation systems.     The foundation models based on pre-training technology have significantly advanced artificial intelligence from theoretical to practical applications. These models have facilitated the feasibility of computer-aided diagnosis for widespread use. Medical contrastive vision-language pre-training, which does not require human annotations, is an effective approach for guiding representation learning using description information in diagnostic reports. However, the effectiveness of pre-training is limited by the large-scale semantic overlap and shifting problems in medical field. To address these issues, we propose the Knowledge-Boosting Contrastive Vision-Language Pre-training framework (KoBo), which integrates clinical knowledge into the learning of vision-language semantic consistency. The framework uses an unbiased, open-set sample-wise knowledge representation to measure negative sample noise and supplement the correspondence between vision-language mutual information and clinical knowledge. Extensive experiments validate the effect of our framework on eight tasks including classification, segmentation, retrieval, and semantic relatedness, achieving comparable or better performance with the zero-shot or few-shot settings.     The notion of word embedding plays a fundamental role in natural language processing (NLP). However, pre-training word embedding for very large-scale vocabulary is computationally challenging for most existing methods. In this work, we show that with merely a small fraction of contexts (Q-contexts)which are typical in the whole corpus (and their mutual information with words), one can construct high-quality word embedding with negligible errors. Mutual information between contexts and words can be encoded canonically as a sampling state, thus, Q-contexts can be fast constructed. Furthermore, we present an efficient and effective WEQ method, which is capable of extracting word embedding directly from these typical contexts. In practical scenarios, our algorithm runs 11$\sim$13 times faster than well-established methods. By comparing with well-known methods such as matrix factorization, word2vec, GloVeand fasttext, we demonstrate that our method achieves comparable performance on a variety of downstream NLP tasks, and in the meanwhile maintains run-time and resource advantages over all these baselines.     Weakly-supervised text classification aims to induce text classifiers from only a few user-provided seed words. The vast majority of previous work assumes high-quality seed words are given. However, the expert-annotated seed words are sometimes non-trivial to come up with. Furthermore, in the weakly-supervised learning setting, we do not have any labeled document to measure the seed words' efficacy, making the seed word selection process "a walk in the dark". In this work, we remove the need for expert-curated seed words by first mining (noisy) candidate seed words associated with the category names. We then train interim models with individual candidate seed words. Lastly, we estimate the interim models' error rate in an unsupervised manner. The seed words that yield the lowest estimated error rates are added to the final seed word set. A comprehensive evaluation of six binary classification tasks on four popular datasets demonstrates that the proposed method outperforms a baseline using only category name seed words and obtained comparable performance as a counterpart using expert-annotated seed words.     Music genre classification is a widely researched topic in music information retrieval (MIR). Being able to automatically tag genres will benefit music streaming service providers such as JOOX, Apple Music, and Spotify for their content-based recommendation. However, most studies on music classification have been done on western songs which differ from Thai songs. Lukthung, a distinctive and long-established type of Thai music, is one of the most popular music genres in Thailand and has a specific group of listeners. In this paper, we develop neural networks to classify such Lukthung genre from others using both lyrics and audios. Words used in Lukthung songs are particularly poetical, and their musical styles are uniquely composed of traditional Thai instruments. We leverage these two main characteristics by building a lyrics model based on bag-of-words (BoW), and an audio model using a convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture. We then aggregate the intermediate features learned from both models to build a final classifier. Our results show that the proposed three models outperform all of the standard classifiers where the combined model yields the best $F_1$ score of 0.86, allowing Lukthung classification to be applicable to personalized recommendation for Thai audience.     Dependency parsing (DP) is a task that analyzes text for syntactic structure and relationship between words. DP is widely used to improve natural language processing (NLP) applications in many languages such as English. Previous works on DP are generally applicable to formally written languages. However, they do not apply to informal languages such as the ones used in social networks. Therefore, DP has to be researched and explored with such social network data. In this paper, we explore and identify a DP model that is suitable for Thai social network data. After that, we will identify the appropriate linguistic unit as an input. The result showed that, the transition based model called, improve Elkared dependency parser outperform the others at UAS of 81.42%. 7 Pages, 8 figures, to be published in The 14th International Joint Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (iSAI-NLP 2019)

    Image captioning has received significant attention with remarkable improvements in recent advances. Nevertheless, images in the wild encapsulate rich knowledge and cannot be sufficiently described with models built on image-caption pairs containing only in-domain objects. In this paper, we propose to address the problem by augmenting standard deep captioning architectures with object learners. Specifically, we present Long Short-Term Memory with Pointing (LSTM-P) --- a new architecture that facilitates vocabulary expansion and produces novel objects via pointing mechanism. Technically, object learners are initially pre-trained on available object recognition data. Pointing in LSTM-P then balances the probability between generating a word through LSTM and copying a word from the recognized objects at each time step in decoder stage. Furthermore, our captioning encourages global coverage of objects in the sentence. Extensive experiments are conducted on both held-out COCO image captioning and ImageNet datasets for describing novel objects, and superior results are reported when comparing to state-of-the-art approaches. More remarkably, we obtain an average of 60.9% in F1 score on held-out COCO~dataset. Comment: CVPR 2019

    Automatically describing a video with natural language is regarded as a fundamental challenge in computer vision. The problem nevertheless is not trivial especially when a video contains multiple events to be worthy of mention, which often happens in real videos. A valid question is how to temporally localize and then describe events, which is known as "dense video captioning." In this paper, we present a novel framework for dense video captioning that unifies the localization of temporal event proposals and sentence generation of each proposal, by jointly training them in an end-to-end manner. To combine these two worlds, we integrate a new design, namely descriptiveness regression, into a single shot detection structure to infer the descriptive complexity of each detected proposal via sentence generation. This in turn adjusts the temporal locations of each event proposal. Our model differs from existing dense video captioning methods since we propose a joint and global optimization of detection and captioning, and the framework uniquely capitalizes on an attribute-augmented video captioning architecture. Extensive experiments are conducted on ActivityNet Captions dataset and our framework shows clear improvements when compared to the state-of-the-art techniques.     Previous studies have found that a significant number of bug reports are misclassified between bugs and non-bugs, and that manually classifying bug reports is a time-consuming task. To address this problem, we propose a bug reports classification model with N-gram IDF, a theoretical extension of Inverse Document Frequency (IDF) for handling words and phrases of any length. N-gram IDF enables us to extract key terms of any length from texts, these key terms can be used as the features to classify bug reports. We build classification models with logistic regression and random forest using features from N-gram IDF and topic modeling, which is widely used in various software engineering tasks. With a publicly available dataset, our results show that our N-gram IDF-based models have a superior performance than the topic-based models on all of the evaluated cases.     Word segmentation is the first step of any tasks in Vietnamese language processing. This paper reviews stateof-the-art approaches and systems for word segmentation in Vietnamese. To have an overview of all stages from building corpora to developing toolkits, we discuss building the corpus stage, approaches applied to solve the word segmentation and existing toolkits to segment words in Vietnamese sentences. In addition, this study shows clearly the motivations on building corpus and implementing machine learning techniques to improve the accuracy for Vietnamese word segmentation. According to our observation, this study also reports a few of achivements and limitations in existing Vietnamese word segmentation systems.
