    Sequences of lake sediments often form long and continuous records that may be sensitive recorders of seismic shaking. A multi-proxy analysis of Lake Bohinj sediments associated with a wellconstrained chronology was conducted to reconstruct Holocene seismic activity in the Julian Alps (Slovenia). A seismic reflection survey and sedimentological analyses identified 29 homogenite-type deposits related to mass wasting deposits. The most recent homogenites can be linked to historical regional earthquakes (i.e. 1348 AD, 1511 AD and 1690 AD) with strong epicentral intensity [greater than ‘damaging’ (VIII) on the Medvedev–Sponheuer–Karnik scale]. The correlation between the historic earthquake dataset and the homogenites identified in a core isolated from local stream inputs, allows interpretation of all similar deposits as earthquake related. This work extends the earthquake chronicle of the last 6600 years in this area with a total of 29 events recorded. The early Holocene sedimentary record is disturbed by a seismic event (6617 ± 94 yr cal BP) that reworked previously deposited sediment and led to a thick sediment deposit identified in the seismic survey. The period between 3500 to 2000 yr cal BP is characterized by a major destabilization in the watershed by human activities that led to increases in erosion and sedimentation rates. This change increased the lake’s sensitivity to recording an earthquake (earthquake-sensitivity threshold index) with the occurrence of 72 turbidite-type deposits over this period. The high turbidite frequency identified could be the consequence of this change in lake earthquake sensitivity and thus these turbidites could be triggered by earthquake shaking, as other origins are discarded. This study illustrates why it is not acceptable to propose a return period for seismic activity recorded in lake sediment if the sedimentation rate varies significantly. International audience

    The authors attempt to specify the diffusion pattern of the Impressed-Ware Neolithic (Im­presso-cardial complex, ICC), from south-eastern Italy onto the French Mediterranean coasts. Using ChronoModel® software, a Bayesian model was built with sets of dates obtained on well-contextualised, short-lived samples. The results highlight a clear tightening of the chronology in the so-called nuclear area (Apulia, Basilicata, Calabria) and a pioneer dispersal at record speed in the Tyrrhe­nian Basin. Moreover, they question the origins and initial developments of the Impressed-Wares techno-complex.

    International audience; Over 30 samples from bedrock and boulders from the Veliki vrh rock avalanche have been collected for surface exposure dating. The limestone rocks have been radiochemically treated to isolate and determine long-lived Cl-36 by accelerator mass spectrometry. It could be shown that the Veliki vrh rock avalanche from the KoSuta Mountain (Slovenia) event can be very likely linked to one of the major historical earthquakes in Europe happening on the 25th of January 1348. Taken into account independently determined denudation rates, inherited Cl-36 originating from pre-exposure at shallow depths (20-55 m) could be calculated. The high amount of inherited Cl-36, i.e. 17-46% of the total Cl-36, makes this site not suitable for a precise determination of the Cl-36 production rate as it was originally anticipated. Veliki vrh is a ``classic'' rock avalanche of high velocity. The slope failed in the upper part with a translational slide predominantly along the bedding planes, whereas dynamic fragmentation is the cause for further crushing of the material and the long runout.     Despite a long tradition of studies of the Moldavian Neolithic and Chalcolithic cultures, the analysis of the territorial behaviour of human communities remains underexploited. This work combines concepts used in landscape archaeology with the potential of the Geographic Information System (GIS) to mobilise archaeological artefacts in a large-scale setting and for many thematic purposes. This paper aims to compare the spatial and temporal distributions of archaeological evidence in central Moldavia. Applying integrated approaches through GIS analysis, it explores the natural, economic and social phenomena involved in territorial trajectories during the Later Pre- history (60003500 BC). In the chronological framework of the Starevo-Cris, Linear Pottery, Precucuteni and Cucuteni cultures, different types of spatial analysis are computed in order to underline territorial control and supply strategies in an area well known for its density of its fortified settlements, extremely rich soils and abundance of salt springs. Kljub dolgi tradiciji študija neolitskih in halkolitskih kultur v Moldaviji je delovanje človeških skupnosti v prostoru še vedno premalo raziskano. To omogočajo koncepti prostorske arheologije v povezavi z geografskimi informacijskimi sistemi (GIS), s katerimi povezujemo arheološke artefakte na večjem območju v mnoge tematske sklope. V članku primerjamo prostorsko in časovno razprostranjenost arheoloških zapisov v centralni Moldaviji. Z uporabo integriranega pristopa preko analize GIS raziskujemo naravne, ekološke in družbene fenomene, ki so bili vključeni v teritorialne trajektorije v mlajši prazgodovini (60003500 BC). Predstavljamo različne tipe prostorskih analiz v kontekstu kultur Starevo - Cris, Linearno-trakaste keramike, Precucuteni in Cucuteni, da bi poudarili pomen nadzora skupnosti nad ozemljem in strategije oskrbe na področju, ki je znano po veliki gostoti utrjenih naselbin, po zelo rodovitni zemlji in številnih slanih izvirih.

    International audience; This paper presents visualisation techniques of high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) for visual detection of archaeological features. The methods commonly used in archaeology are reviewed and improvements are suggested. One straightforward technique that has so far not been used in archaeologye the shift method e is presented. The main purpose of this article is to compare and evaluate different visualisation methods. Two conclusions have been reached. Where a single method must be chosen e for printing or producing digital images for non-professionals e the use of sky view factor or slope gradient is endorsed, both presented in greyscale. Otherwise interpreters should choose different techniques on different terrain types: shift on flat terrain, sky viewfactor on mixed terrain, slope gradient on sloped terrain and sky view factor (preferably as a composite image with slope gradient) on rugged terrain.

    Vprašanja pravilnosti morfoloških paradigem so se že lotevali pristopi, ki sodijo v okvir kanonične tipologije (Corbett 2003). Cilj pričujočega članka je prispevati izvirne načine, ki bodo na podlagi meril, ki smo jih izdelali znotraj našega novega morfološkega modela PARSLI, omogočali ovrednotiti pojem morfološke kanoničnosti. Še posebej pozorno pa smo vpeljali nove načine merjenja nekanoničnih pojavov, kot smo npr. heterokliza, deponentnost, nezapolnjnenost, prenapolnjenost. V članku predstavljamo PARSLI, ki je nov oblikoslovni model, ki se opira na inferenčnouresničitveni pristop (Matthews 1974; Zwicky 1985; Anderson 1992). Naš model ponuja prav formalno predstavitev slovarsko-slovničnega vmesnika. Temelji na formalni definiciji leksikalne iztočnice in popolnem formalnem aparatu, ki omogoča izpeljavo vseh relevantnih oblikoslovnih uresničitvenih pravil za vsak leksem, kamor sodijo tudi pravila oblikovanja osnove. Uresničitvena pravila lahko oblikujemo znotraj katerega koli ustreznega formalnega modela (na primer, teorija paradigmatskih funkcij ali morfologija mrež /ang. Network Morphology/). Vpeljemo vrsto formalnih novosti, na primer pregibna območja (ang. inflection zones), ki tvorijo dele posameznega pregibnega razreda. Posebej koristni so pri modeliranju heteroklize. The question of regularity within morphological paradigms has been formerly addressed within approaches falling in the scope of Canonical Typology (Corbett 2003). The aim of this paper is to provide a means for assessing the notion of morphological canonicity through original measures developed within our new morphological framework PARSLI. In particular, we introduce original measures for non-canonical phenomena such as heteroclisis, deponency, defectiveness and overabundance. We introduce PARSLI a new model for inflectional morphology using an inferential-realisational approach (Matthews 1974; Zwicky 1985; Anderson 1992). Our model precisely provides a formal representation of the lexicon/grammar interface. It relies on a formal definition of a lexical entry and a complete formal apparatus for computing all relevant form realisation rules for each lexeme, including stem formation rules. Realisation rules themselves may be expressed through any suitable realisation-based formalism (e.g. PFM or Network Morphology). We introduce several formal innovations such as inflection zones, that constitute partitions of given inflection classes. They are in particular used in modelling heteroclisis.

    Sequences of lake sediments often form long and continuous records that may be sensitive recorders of seismic shaking. A multi-proxy analysis of Lake Bohinj sediments associated with a wellconstrained chronology was conducted to reconstruct Holocene seismic activity in the Julian Alps (Slovenia). A seismic reflection survey and sedimentological analyses identified 29 homogenite-type deposits related to mass wasting deposits. The most recent homogenites can be linked to historical regional earthquakes (i.e. 1348 AD, 1511 AD and 1690 AD) with strong epicentral intensity [greater than ‘damaging’ (VIII) on the Medvedev–Sponheuer–Karnik scale]. The correlation between the historic earthquake dataset and the homogenites identified in a core isolated from local stream inputs, allows interpretation of all similar deposits as earthquake related. This work extends the earthquake chronicle of the last 6600 years in this area with a total of 29 events recorded. The early Holocene sedimentary record is disturbed by a seismic event (6617 ± 94 yr cal BP) that reworked previously deposited sediment and led to a thick sediment deposit identified in the seismic survey. The period between 3500 to 2000 yr cal BP is characterized by a major destabilization in the watershed by human activities that led to increases in erosion and sedimentation rates. This change increased the lake’s sensitivity to recording an earthquake (earthquake-sensitivity threshold index) with the occurrence of 72 turbidite-type deposits over this period. The high turbidite frequency identified could be the consequence of this change in lake earthquake sensitivity and thus these turbidites could be triggered by earthquake shaking, as other origins are discarded. This study illustrates why it is not acceptable to propose a return period for seismic activity recorded in lake sediment if the sedimentation rate varies significantly. International audience

    The authors attempt to specify the diffusion pattern of the Impressed-Ware Neolithic (Im­presso-cardial complex, ICC), from south-eastern Italy onto the French Mediterranean coasts. Using ChronoModel® software, a Bayesian model was built with sets of dates obtained on well-contextualised, short-lived samples. The results highlight a clear tightening of the chronology in the so-called nuclear area (Apulia, Basilicata, Calabria) and a pioneer dispersal at record speed in the Tyrrhe­nian Basin. Moreover, they question the origins and initial developments of the Impressed-Wares techno-complex.

    International audience; Over 30 samples from bedrock and boulders from the Veliki vrh rock avalanche have been collected for surface exposure dating. The limestone rocks have been radiochemically treated to isolate and determine long-lived Cl-36 by accelerator mass spectrometry. It could be shown that the Veliki vrh rock avalanche from the KoSuta Mountain (Slovenia) event can be very likely linked to one of the major historical earthquakes in Europe happening on the 25th of January 1348. Taken into account independently determined denudation rates, inherited Cl-36 originating from pre-exposure at shallow depths (20-55 m) could be calculated. The high amount of inherited Cl-36, i.e. 17-46% of the total Cl-36, makes this site not suitable for a precise determination of the Cl-36 production rate as it was originally anticipated. Veliki vrh is a ``classic'' rock avalanche of high velocity. The slope failed in the upper part with a translational slide predominantly along the bedding planes, whereas dynamic fragmentation is the cause for further crushing of the material and the long runout.     Despite a long tradition of studies of the Moldavian Neolithic and Chalcolithic cultures, the analysis of the territorial behaviour of human communities remains underexploited. This work combines concepts used in landscape archaeology with the potential of the Geographic Information System (GIS) to mobilise archaeological artefacts in a large-scale setting and for many thematic purposes. This paper aims to compare the spatial and temporal distributions of archaeological evidence in central Moldavia. Applying integrated approaches through GIS analysis, it explores the natural, economic and social phenomena involved in territorial trajectories during the Later Pre- history (60003500 BC). In the chronological framework of the Starevo-Cris, Linear Pottery, Precucuteni and Cucuteni cultures, different types of spatial analysis are computed in order to underline territorial control and supply strategies in an area well known for its density of its fortified settlements, extremely rich soils and abundance of salt springs. Kljub dolgi tradiciji študija neolitskih in halkolitskih kultur v Moldaviji je delovanje človeških skupnosti v prostoru še vedno premalo raziskano. To omogočajo koncepti prostorske arheologije v povezavi z geografskimi informacijskimi sistemi (GIS), s katerimi povezujemo arheološke artefakte na večjem območju v mnoge tematske sklope. V članku primerjamo prostorsko in časovno razprostranjenost arheoloških zapisov v centralni Moldaviji. Z uporabo integriranega pristopa preko analize GIS raziskujemo naravne, ekološke in družbene fenomene, ki so bili vključeni v teritorialne trajektorije v mlajši prazgodovini (60003500 BC). Predstavljamo različne tipe prostorskih analiz v kontekstu kultur Starevo - Cris, Linearno-trakaste keramike, Precucuteni in Cucuteni, da bi poudarili pomen nadzora skupnosti nad ozemljem in strategije oskrbe na področju, ki je znano po veliki gostoti utrjenih naselbin, po zelo rodovitni zemlji in številnih slanih izvirih.

    International audience; This paper presents visualisation techniques of high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) for visual detection of archaeological features. The methods commonly used in archaeology are reviewed and improvements are suggested. One straightforward technique that has so far not been used in archaeologye the shift method e is presented. The main purpose of this article is to compare and evaluate different visualisation methods. Two conclusions have been reached. Where a single method must be chosen e for printing or producing digital images for non-professionals e the use of sky view factor or slope gradient is endorsed, both presented in greyscale. Otherwise interpreters should choose different techniques on different terrain types: shift on flat terrain, sky viewfactor on mixed terrain, slope gradient on sloped terrain and sky view factor (preferably as a composite image with slope gradient) on rugged terrain.

    Vprašanja pravilnosti morfoloških paradigem so se že lotevali pristopi, ki sodijo v okvir kanonične tipologije (Corbett 2003). Cilj pričujočega članka je prispevati izvirne načine, ki bodo na podlagi meril, ki smo jih izdelali znotraj našega novega morfološkega modela PARSLI, omogočali ovrednotiti pojem morfološke kanoničnosti. Še posebej pozorno pa smo vpeljali nove načine merjenja nekanoničnih pojavov, kot smo npr. heterokliza, deponentnost, nezapolnjnenost, prenapolnjenost. V članku predstavljamo PARSLI, ki je nov oblikoslovni model, ki se opira na inferenčnouresničitveni pristop (Matthews 1974; Zwicky 1985; Anderson 1992). Naš model ponuja prav formalno predstavitev slovarsko-slovničnega vmesnika. Temelji na formalni definiciji leksikalne iztočnice in popolnem formalnem aparatu, ki omogoča izpeljavo vseh relevantnih oblikoslovnih uresničitvenih pravil za vsak leksem, kamor sodijo tudi pravila oblikovanja osnove. Uresničitvena pravila lahko oblikujemo znotraj katerega koli ustreznega formalnega modela (na primer, teorija paradigmatskih funkcij ali morfologija mrež /ang. Network Morphology/). Vpeljemo vrsto formalnih novosti, na primer pregibna območja (ang. inflection zones), ki tvorijo dele posameznega pregibnega razreda. Posebej koristni so pri modeliranju heteroklize. The question of regularity within morphological paradigms has been formerly addressed within approaches falling in the scope of Canonical Typology (Corbett 2003). The aim of this paper is to provide a means for assessing the notion of morphological canonicity through original measures developed within our new morphological framework PARSLI. In particular, we introduce original measures for non-canonical phenomena such as heteroclisis, deponency, defectiveness and overabundance. We introduce PARSLI a new model for inflectional morphology using an inferential-realisational approach (Matthews 1974; Zwicky 1985; Anderson 1992). Our model precisely provides a formal representation of the lexicon/grammar interface. It relies on a formal definition of a lexical entry and a complete formal apparatus for computing all relevant form realisation rules for each lexeme, including stem formation rules. Realisation rules themselves may be expressed through any suitable realisation-based formalism (e.g. PFM or Network Morphology). We introduce several formal innovations such as inflection zones, that constitute partitions of given inflection classes. They are in particular used in modelling heteroclisis.
