    The evaluation of the effects of conservation agriculture during the transition from conventional tillage to no-tillage requires numerous indicators to be considered. For this purpose, we monitored changes in a multi-parameter dataset during a three-year experiment that combined three tillage intensities (conventional tillage—CT; minimum tillage—MT; and no tillage—NT) with three soil covering managements (tillage radish cover crop, winter wheat cover crop and bare soil). Using a multivariate analysis, we developed a Relative Sustainability Index (RSI) based on 11 physical (e.g., bulk density and penetration resistance), chemical (e.g., soil organic carbon and pH) and biological soil properties (e.g., earthworm density) to evaluate cropping systems sustainability. The RSI was most affected by tillage intensity showing higher RSI values (i.e., better performances) in reduced tillage systems. Specifically, the RSI under NT was 42% greater than that of CT and 13% greater than that of MT. Soil covering had little impact on the RSI. Among the tested parameters, the RSI was increased most by saturated hydraulic conductivity (+193%) and earthworm density (+339%) across CT and NT treatments. Our results suggest that conservation agriculture and, particularly, reduced tillage systems, have the potential to increase farm environmental and agronomic sustainability.

    Public Report within the EU H2020 DIVERSify project - https://plant-teams.org Executive Summary This deliverable report describes the applicability of the Minimalist Mixture Model ��� M3 ��� as a prototype tool for predicting performance of innovative plant teams. M3 has been developed as part of the work conducted in DIVERSify within WP3. M3, and its most recent further developments, are briefly described. The emphasis is on the general structure of the model, and the data needed for its calibration, running and validation. In addition, this report presents two applications of M3 to predict the performance of existing and novel plant teams. In the first application, M3 is used to determine the performance of plant teams differing from the existing ones for specific parameters, thus helping in the identification of key traits for superior performance, and hence potential innovative plant teams that should be prioritized in breeding. In the second application, M3 is used to determine the stability of a plant team performance in the face of variable climatic conditions, including those projected for the future.

    Pruning residues can have a high quality as feedstock for energy purposes and are largely available in Europe. However, it is still an untapped resource. Such scarce use is due to the need to optimize their supply chain in term of collection machines and the associate cost of collection. A modular chipper (prototype PC50) for pruning harvest was developed. Such prototype is adaptable to various harvesting logistics and may produce a higher quality woodchip compared with the one produced by shredders available in the market. In this work, we tested the performance and quality of the product delivered by the prototype PC50 in various conditions and plant species, after a modulation of the machine settings (counter-rotating toothed rollers [CRR] speed), loading systems ([LS], either big bag or container), and knife types ([KT], either discontinuous hoe shaped knives or continuous helicoidal knives). To take into account of the covariates in the experiment (Cropping season and plant species), LSmeans were computed to have an unbiased estimate of the treatments means. The modulation of LS and KT scarcely affected the performance of the machine. In particular, the choice of the KT affected the field efficiency when the LS was a Tilting box but not a Big Bag. Whereas the continuous knife resulted in a 97% higher material capacity compared to hoe shape knives, the last of which the amount of short sized (<16 mm) fractions compared to helicoidal knives. No role of the CCR was found on the machine performance, but increasing CRR speed reduced the chip apparent bulk density and the fraction chips with a size <8 mm.

    This repository includes two datasets used in Ranghetti et al. (2018) and Ranghetti & Boschetti (2022) to analyse the magnitude of a decreasing trend in the extent of submerged rice paddies during the rice-sowing period in the Italian rice district: methods used to generate these data from MODIS remote sensing imagery are described in these papers. ffavg_2021.csv: this dataset includes values of yearly FFavg (averaged Flooding Fraction) at pixel level. Each record represent the FFavg value of a specific pixel in a specific year. x and y identifies the latitude and longitude of each record (in UTM32 coordinates); subdistrict represent the sub-district ID of each pixel ("A" to "G"); year is the year whose each record refers to; ff is the FFavg value (range 0-1); count is the number of MODIS images used to generate each FFavg aggregated value. ws_2021.csv: this dataset includes values of WS (proportion of Water-Seeded rice surface) at sub-district and district levels. subdistrict represent the sub-district ID of each record ("A" to "G", plus "all" which identifies values aggregated at district level); year is the year whose each record refers to; ws is the WS value (range 0-1); count is the number of pixels used to generate each WS aggregated record.     Currently, ensuring the correct functioning of the electrical grid is an important issue in terms of maintaining the normative voltage parameters and local line overloads. The unpredictability of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), the occurrence of the phenomenon of peak demand, as well as exceeding the voltage level above the nominal values in a smart grid makes it justifiable to conduct further research in this field. The article presents the results of simulation tests and experimental laboratory tests of an electricity management system in order to reduce excessively high grid load or reduce excessively high grid voltage values resulting from increased production of prosumer RES. The research is based on the Elastic Energy Management (EEM) algorithm for smart appliances (SA) using IoT (Internet of Things) technology. The data for the algorithm was obtained from a message broker that implements the Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol. The complexity of selecting power settings for SA in the EEM algorithm required the use of a solution that is applied to the NP difficult problem class. For this purpose, the Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure (GRASP) was used in the EEM algorithm. The presented results of the simulation and experiment confirmed the possibility of regulating the network voltage by the Elastic Energy Management algorithm in the event of voltage fluctuations related to excessive load or local generation.

    The dataset was generated through a mixed (real and synthetic) image data generation method which utilizes real background images and DL-generated human models. It contains 50000 real images depicting urban scenes, populated by synthetic human models in various positions and poses and is suitable for training/evaluating (a) pose estimation, (b) person detection, (c) identity recognition methods. Annotations for 2D bounding boxes of the depicted humans, their IDs and 2D keypoints etc are provided. The 133 3D human models, required by the method, were generated using the Pixel-aligned Implicit Function (PIFu) and full-body images of people from the Clothing Co-Parsing (CCP) dataset. As background images, a subset of the Cityscapes dataset was used. The Cityscapes license prohibits the distribution of any modified versions of itself. Thus, we provide code that can re-generate the exact same dataset, given that the Cityscapes dataset is downloaded by the website of its authors. Code and instructions for re-generating the dataset are provided here. The dataset was developed by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) within the H2020 OpenDR Project. Due to license restrictions regarding the Cityscapes dataset, we provide code, annotations and 3D human models, which can generate our dataset. Design: A survey of 98 farmers and interviews with 37 advice providers in south-western France were conducted to analyse the ways in which farmers combine different sources of advice (microAKIS). The farmers’ practices were observed for general farm management and for 3 types of innovation (new crop diversification, digital decision support tools, and labour outsourcing). Findings: The results highlight poorly-known characteristics of microAKIS regarding the variety of sources of advice used by farmers, and the limited number of reliable resources on which farmers can draw at key stages of the innovation process. They provide evidence of bottom-up mechanisms of institutional changes such as the routinization of the use of certain service providers that are often overlooked in AKIS analyses (e.g. upstream industries). Practical implications: These results can contribute to reducing the misalignments of stakeholders’ representations of AKIS and microAKIS, and therefore facilitate public debates and improve the efficiency of interventions in this area. Theoretical implications: Studies of institutional changes resulting from the evolution of microAKIS are expected to complement analyses of increased pluralism of advice providers. Originality: Linking the observation of microAKIS and the analysis of incremental institutional changes in AKIS allows the identification of transformations of the AKIS rationale that would otherwise remain partially invisible.

    The evaluation of the effects of conservation agriculture during the transition from conventional tillage to no-tillage requires numerous indicators to be considered. For this purpose, we monitored changes in a multi-parameter dataset during a three-year experiment that combined three tillage intensities (conventional tillage—CT; minimum tillage—MT; and no tillage—NT) with three soil covering managements (tillage radish cover crop, winter wheat cover crop and bare soil). Using a multivariate analysis, we developed a Relative Sustainability Index (RSI) based on 11 physical (e.g., bulk density and penetration resistance), chemical (e.g., soil organic carbon and pH) and biological soil properties (e.g., earthworm density) to evaluate cropping systems sustainability. The RSI was most affected by tillage intensity showing higher RSI values (i.e., better performances) in reduced tillage systems. Specifically, the RSI under NT was 42% greater than that of CT and 13% greater than that of MT. Soil covering had little impact on the RSI. Among the tested parameters, the RSI was increased most by saturated hydraulic conductivity (+193%) and earthworm density (+339%) across CT and NT treatments. Our results suggest that conservation agriculture and, particularly, reduced tillage systems, have the potential to increase farm environmental and agronomic sustainability.

    Public Report within the EU H2020 DIVERSify project - https://plant-teams.org Executive Summary This deliverable report describes the applicability of the Minimalist Mixture Model ��� M3 ��� as a prototype tool for predicting performance of innovative plant teams. M3 has been developed as part of the work conducted in DIVERSify within WP3. M3, and its most recent further developments, are briefly described. The emphasis is on the general structure of the model, and the data needed for its calibration, running and validation. In addition, this report presents two applications of M3 to predict the performance of existing and novel plant teams. In the first application, M3 is used to determine the performance of plant teams differing from the existing ones for specific parameters, thus helping in the identification of key traits for superior performance, and hence potential innovative plant teams that should be prioritized in breeding. In the second application, M3 is used to determine the stability of a plant team performance in the face of variable climatic conditions, including those projected for the future.

    Pruning residues can have a high quality as feedstock for energy purposes and are largely available in Europe. However, it is still an untapped resource. Such scarce use is due to the need to optimize their supply chain in term of collection machines and the associate cost of collection. A modular chipper (prototype PC50) for pruning harvest was developed. Such prototype is adaptable to various harvesting logistics and may produce a higher quality woodchip compared with the one produced by shredders available in the market. In this work, we tested the performance and quality of the product delivered by the prototype PC50 in various conditions and plant species, after a modulation of the machine settings (counter-rotating toothed rollers [CRR] speed), loading systems ([LS], either big bag or container), and knife types ([KT], either discontinuous hoe shaped knives or continuous helicoidal knives). To take into account of the covariates in the experiment (Cropping season and plant species), LSmeans were computed to have an unbiased estimate of the treatments means. The modulation of LS and KT scarcely affected the performance of the machine. In particular, the choice of the KT affected the field efficiency when the LS was a Tilting box but not a Big Bag. Whereas the continuous knife resulted in a 97% higher material capacity compared to hoe shape knives, the last of which the amount of short sized (<16 mm) fractions compared to helicoidal knives. No role of the CCR was found on the machine performance, but increasing CRR speed reduced the chip apparent bulk density and the fraction chips with a size <8 mm.

    This repository includes two datasets used in Ranghetti et al. (2018) and Ranghetti & Boschetti (2022) to analyse the magnitude of a decreasing trend in the extent of submerged rice paddies during the rice-sowing period in the Italian rice district: methods used to generate these data from MODIS remote sensing imagery are described in these papers. ffavg_2021.csv: this dataset includes values of yearly FFavg (averaged Flooding Fraction) at pixel level. Each record represent the FFavg value of a specific pixel in a specific year. x and y identifies the latitude and longitude of each record (in UTM32 coordinates); subdistrict represent the sub-district ID of each pixel ("A" to "G"); year is the year whose each record refers to; ff is the FFavg value (range 0-1); count is the number of MODIS images used to generate each FFavg aggregated value. ws_2021.csv: this dataset includes values of WS (proportion of Water-Seeded rice surface) at sub-district and district levels. subdistrict represent the sub-district ID of each record ("A" to "G", plus "all" which identifies values aggregated at district level); year is the year whose each record refers to; ws is the WS value (range 0-1); count is the number of pixels used to generate each WS aggregated record.     Currently, ensuring the correct functioning of the electrical grid is an important issue in terms of maintaining the normative voltage parameters and local line overloads. The unpredictability of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), the occurrence of the phenomenon of peak demand, as well as exceeding the voltage level above the nominal values in a smart grid makes it justifiable to conduct further research in this field. The article presents the results of simulation tests and experimental laboratory tests of an electricity management system in order to reduce excessively high grid load or reduce excessively high grid voltage values resulting from increased production of prosumer RES. The research is based on the Elastic Energy Management (EEM) algorithm for smart appliances (SA) using IoT (Internet of Things) technology. The data for the algorithm was obtained from a message broker that implements the Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol. The complexity of selecting power settings for SA in the EEM algorithm required the use of a solution that is applied to the NP difficult problem class. For this purpose, the Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure (GRASP) was used in the EEM algorithm. The presented results of the simulation and experiment confirmed the possibility of regulating the network voltage by the Elastic Energy Management algorithm in the event of voltage fluctuations related to excessive load or local generation.

    The dataset was generated through a mixed (real and synthetic) image data generation method which utilizes real background images and DL-generated human models. It contains 50000 real images depicting urban scenes, populated by synthetic human models in various positions and poses and is suitable for training/evaluating (a) pose estimation, (b) person detection, (c) identity recognition methods. Annotations for 2D bounding boxes of the depicted humans, their IDs and 2D keypoints etc are provided. The 133 3D human models, required by the method, were generated using the Pixel-aligned Implicit Function (PIFu) and full-body images of people from the Clothing Co-Parsing (CCP) dataset. As background images, a subset of the Cityscapes dataset was used. The Cityscapes license prohibits the distribution of any modified versions of itself. Thus, we provide code that can re-generate the exact same dataset, given that the Cityscapes dataset is downloaded by the website of its authors. Code and instructions for re-generating the dataset are provided here. The dataset was developed by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) within the H2020 OpenDR Project. Due to license restrictions regarding the Cityscapes dataset, we provide code, annotations and 3D human models, which can generate our dataset. Design: A survey of 98 farmers and interviews with 37 advice providers in south-western France were conducted to analyse the ways in which farmers combine different sources of advice (microAKIS). The farmers’ practices were observed for general farm management and for 3 types of innovation (new crop diversification, digital decision support tools, and labour outsourcing). Findings: The results highlight poorly-known characteristics of microAKIS regarding the variety of sources of advice used by farmers, and the limited number of reliable resources on which farmers can draw at key stages of the innovation process. They provide evidence of bottom-up mechanisms of institutional changes such as the routinization of the use of certain service providers that are often overlooked in AKIS analyses (e.g. upstream industries). Practical implications: These results can contribute to reducing the misalignments of stakeholders’ representations of AKIS and microAKIS, and therefore facilitate public debates and improve the efficiency of interventions in this area. Theoretical implications: Studies of institutional changes resulting from the evolution of microAKIS are expected to complement analyses of increased pluralism of advice providers. Originality: Linking the observation of microAKIS and the analysis of incremental institutional changes in AKIS allows the identification of transformations of the AKIS rationale that would otherwise remain partially invisible.
