    Authors: McGarrigle, Conor;

    This chapter considers the role of digital art practice, with an emphasis on the Irish context, in what is described as the data-city, that is a theorisation of this contemporary urban condition so infused with opaque data-driven systems that almost every action is described by and enacted through data. The ubiquitous deployment and action of data assemblages – the networks of hardware and software that enable data-capture regimes – in urban space are changing the nature of the city itself in ways that are not readily apparent. Critical data art practices it is suggested, provide a method to highlight and critique these developments.

    Authors: Costa Dias; Luciana da;

    This chapter examines the impact that Mexico—the conception and misconceptions of its native culture—had on Antonin Artaud’s work. Artaud’s interest in Mexico precedes his visit to the country in 1936 and informs parts of The Theatre and Its Double (1938), which were even partially conceived in Mexico, when he had contact with the Mexican avantgarde artists as well as with the Rarumari, a native tribe from Sierra Tarahumara, later pictured in his book The Peyote Dance (1937) and other writings. The chosen line of investigation is to discuss how racial issues emerge and are (or not) problematized in Artaud’s work, in which Mexico becomes an ‘idyllic place’ and the Rarumari its ‘lost civilization’. The discussion is conducted through bibliographic review and a critical approach is necessary since related notions like primitivism in modern art need to be reviewed and discussed within a decolonial perspective.

    Authors: Oswaldo Solarte-Pabon; Ernestina Menasalvas; Alejandro Rodríguez-González;

    Electronic health records contain valuable information written in narrative form. A relevant challenge in clinical narrative text is that concepts commonly appear negated. Several proposals have been developed to detect negation in clinical text written in Spanish. Much of these proposals have adapted the Negex algorithm to Spanish, but obtained results indicating lower performance than NegEx implementations in other languages. Moreover, in most of these proposals, the validation process could be improved using a shared test corpus focused on negation in clinical text. This paper proposes Spa-neg, an approach to improve negation detection in clinical text written in Spanish. Spa-neg combines three elements: (i) an exploratory data analysis of how negation is written in the clinical text, (ii) use of regular expressions best adapted to the way in which negation is expressed in Spanish, (iii) experiments, and validation using a shared annotated corpus focused on negation. Our findings suggest that the combination of these elements improves the process of negation detection. The tests performed have shown 92% F-Score using IULA Spanish, an annotated corpus for negation in clinical text.

    Creating links manually between large datasets becomes an extremely tedious task. Although the linked data production is growing massively, the interconnecting needs improvement. This paper presents our work regarding detecting and extending links between Wikidata and COURAGE entities with respect to cultural heritage data. The COURAGE project explored the methods for cultural opposition in the socialist era (cc. 1950–1990), highlighting the variety of alternative cultural scenes that flourished in Eastern Europe before 1989. We describe our methods and results in discovering common entities in the two datasets, and our solution for automating this task. Furthermore, it is shown how it was possible to enrich the data in Wikidata and to establish new, bi-directional connections between COURAGE and Wikidata. Hence, the audience of both databases will have a more complete view of the matched entities.

    This paper presents the steps undertaken for building a word formation lexicon for Latin. The types of word formation rules are discussed and the semi-automatic procedure to pair their input and output lexical items is evaluated. An on-line graphical query system to access the lexicon is described as well. Questo articolo presenta le procedure di realizzazione di un lessico morfologico derivazionale per il latino. Sono descritti i tipi di regole di formazione di parola e viene valutata la qualità del sistema semi-automatico di individuazione delle parole in input e in output ad esse. Il sistema grafico d’interrogazione on-line dei dati è altresì presentato.

    Authors: McGarrigle, Conor;

    Authors: Costa Dias; Luciana da;

    Authors: Oswaldo Solarte-Pabon; Ernestina Menasalvas; Alejandro Rodríguez-González;
