Las herramientas digitales no solo están cambiándola manera de traducir e interpretar, sino también la industria en su conjunto, la percepción de la sociedad y la investigación en traducción e interpretación. Este número especial de Tradumàtica recoge investigaciones sobre algunos de estos temas, destacando la importancia de profundizar en la investigación sobre la interacción persona-ordenador en los estudios de traducción e interpretación. Les eines digitals no només estan canviant la manera de traduir i interpretar, sinó també la indústria en el seu conjunt, la percepció de la societat i la recerca en traducció i interpretació. Aquest número especial de Tradumàtica recull investigacions sobre alguns d'aquests temes, destacant la importància d'aprofundir en la investigació sobre la interacció persona-ordinador en els estudis de traducció i interpretació. Digital tools are changing not only the process of translating and interpreting, but also the industry as a whole, societal perception and research in translation and interpreting. This Tradumàtica Special Issue collects research on some of these topics, highlighting the importance of furthering research on human-computer interaction in translation and interpreting studies.

Abstract This study engages recent discussions concerning the description of the Greek of the LXX Pentateuch and the nature of source text interference. Research in contact linguistics and cognition provides a framework to describe the various phenomena observed, ranging from borrowing of linguistic material to the more widespread structural transfer. Processes such as pivot-matching and the cognitive aspects of word-choice transfer shed light on the mechanics of translation and issues such as the nature of cross-linguistic influence and a translator’s apparent inconsistencies. In this context, the intelligibility of specific renderings or their grammatical conventionality are not sufficient criteria for assessing cross-linguistic influence since its effects can be felt at the level of register or genre. This has important ramifications for the register or genre categorization of various textual units of the LXX Pentateuch and stylistic descriptions.

Disagreement is essential to scientific progress. However, the extent of disagreement in science, its evolution over time, and the fields in which it happens, remains poorly understood. Leveraging a massive collection of English-language scientific texts, we develop a cue-phrase based approach to identify instances of disagreement citations across more than four million scientific articles. Using this method, we construct an indicator of disagreement across scientific fields over the 2000-2015 period. In contrast with black-box text classification methods, our framework is transparent and easily interpretable. We reveal a disciplinary spectrum of disagreement, with higher disagreement in the social sciences and lower disagreement in physics and mathematics. However, detailed disciplinary analysis demonstrates heterogeneity across sub-fields, revealing the importance of local disciplinary cultures and epistemic characteristics of disagreement. Paper-level analysis reveals notable episodes of disagreement in science, and illustrates how methodological artifacts can confound analyses of scientific texts. These findings contribute to a broader understanding of disagreement and establish a foundation for future research to understanding key processes underlying scientific progress. Abstract The primary aim of this discussion is to present a detailed case study of Descartes’s use of émotion in Les passions de l’ame and in his early writings leading up to that work. A secondary aim is to argue that that while Descartes was innovative in suggesting that émotion might be a better keyword for the affective sciences than passion, he did not consistently follow his own advice. His innovation therefore failed in that regard, even though it did inspire later thinkers to explore the distinction between ‘passion’ and ‘emotion’ in their own manner.
