Un homme de 83 ans (en 2016), habitant la localité de San Pedro Pie del Calvario, a partagé un récit sur la construction des temples de Mixtepec et de Tlaxiaco. Ceux-ci ont été conçus dans une ère précédente à la nôtre où vivaient les Y’a. Il s’agit de Seigneurs mythologiques qui ont fondé nombreuses villes et villages mixtèques, qui ont dessiné le paysage, entre autres. Ils font partie des Nti-Xi’ina. Deux particularités de cette ère est que le Soleil n’existait pas et que les pierres étaient vivantes. Dans cette narration, le Y’a de Mixtepec rentrait de son village quand subitement a eu lieu la première aube. Le narrateur utilise le prêt de l’espagnol « ídolo » (c.-à-d. idole) pour parler des Premiers ancêtres. Dans son récit, il s’agit d’êtres qui n’ont pas été baptisés. J’ai eu ce même type de distinction en discutant avec une dame qui m’a dit que les Nti-Xi’ina n’ont pas pu être baptisés car ils étaient beaucoup plus anciens que Jésus-Christ. Dans ce type d’exemples, cette distinction semble permettre une certaine conciliation ou cohabitation entre deux systèmes différentiés de croyances. Mais j’ai également pu assister à des discussions où le mot « ídolo » était utilisé pour invalider les croyances de racines préhispaniques, comme un synonyme de faux êtres sacrés. Cette dernière utilisation correspond plutôt à celle implantée par les religieux catholiques qui essayaient de supprimer les croyances locales car celles-ci n’appartenaient pas à leur religion. Aujourd’hui encore l’usage de ce mot est conflictuel. Récit recueilli en 2016.
