Ekşi Höyük Excavations were initiated following the results obtained from the surface surveys conducted in the Upper Menderes Basin. Ekşi Höyük is one of the identified seventeen settlements which were settled during Neolithic and Early Chalcolithic periods. The fact that Ekşi Höyük was not resettled farther than the 13th century cemetery area after the Early Chalcolithic period enabled the Early Chalcolithic and Neolithic layers to be reached just below the surface of the settlement. Although the layers belonging to the Early Chalcolithic period have been destroyed due to being close to surface and agricultural activities carried out on the mound for many years, they have been preserved in narrow areas. The data obtained show that this layer is represented by structures with rectangular plans, stone foundations and mud-brick bodies. Pottery traditions are represented by paint decorated and monochrome pottery groups known in the literature as Hacılar ceramics, which are intensely seen especially in the settlements of the Lakes Region. The Neolithic period layers of the settlement are represented by lime-based structures with rectangular plans in the 7th and 6th layers. Except for a few examples, there are no ceramics found in these layers. The 5th and 4a-b layers, which we can define as Late Neolithic Period layers, are represented by rectangular and apsidal structures. Numerous data on bones, terracotta and stone tool production were obtained from these structures. The pottery of this period is generally represented by monochrome pottery with red and brown exterior surface colors. All these architectural and small finds summarized within the scope of the project were evaluated and reported. Ekşi Höyük Kazı çalışmaları Yukarı Menderes Havzasında yürütülen yüzey araştırmalarında elde edilen sonuçların ardından başlatılmıştır. Ekşi Höyük, havzada tespit edilen 18 Neolitik ve Erken Kalkolitik dönemlerde iskân edilen yerleşimlerden biridir. Ekşi Höyük’ün Erken Kalkolitik dönemden sonra 13. yy’daki mezarlık alanı dışında yeniden iskana tabi olmamış olması yerleşimde yüzeyin hemen altında Erken Kalkolitik ve Neolitik tabakalara ulaşılmasına olanak sağlamıştır. Erken Kalkolitik döneme ait tabakalar her ne kadar yüzeye yakın olması ve höyük üzerinde uzun yıllar sürdürülen tarımsal faaliyetlerden ötürü tahrip olmuş olsa da dar alanlarda korunmuştur. Elde edilen veriler bu tabakanın dikdörtgen planlı taş temelli kerpiç bedenli mekanlar ile temsil edildiği görülmektedir. Çanak çömlek gelenekleri ise özellikle Göller yöresi yerleşimlerinde yoğun bir biçimde görülen Hacılar seramikleri olarak literatürde bilinen boya bezemeli ve monokrom çanak çömlek gruplarıyla temsil edilmektedir. Yerleşimin Neolitik dönem tabakaları 7.ve 6. Tabakalarda kireç tabanlı dikdörtgen planlı mekanlar ile temsil edilmektedir. Bu tabakalarda birkaç örnek dışında seramik bulunmamaktır. Geç Neolitik Dönem tabaları olarak tanımlayabileceğimiz 5. ve 4a-b tabakaları ise dikdörtgen ve apsisli yapılar ile temsil edilmektedir. Söz konusu yapılar içerisinde kemik, pişmiş toprak ve taş alet üretimine dair çok sayıda veri elde edilmiştir. Bu dönem çanak çömleği ise genel olarak kırmızı ve kahverengi dış yüzey rengine sahip monokrom çanak çömleklerle temsil edilmektedir. Proje kapsamında özetlenen tüm bu mimari ve küçük buluntular değerlendirilerek raporlaştırılmıştır.

Bu çalışmada Antandros Nekropolisi’nde 2001-2010 yılları arasında açığa çıkarılan mezarlardan ele geçen Attika seramikleri değerlendirilmiştir. Nekropoliste farklı dönemlerden çok sayıda mezar ortaya çıkarılmış olmasına karşın bunların sadece 17 âdetinde Attika üretimi seramiklere rastlanmıştır. Attika seramiklerinin bulunduğu mezarların on ikisi taş lahit mezarlardan oluşurken diğer buluntular bir pithos, bir kiremit ve üç basit toprak mezardan ele geçmiştir. Bu mezardan ikisi Arkaik döneme, geri kalanları Klasik döneme tarihlenmiştir. Söz konusu mezarlardan 18 lekythos, 14 bolsal, 11 stemless, 4 cup-kantharos, 3 cup-skyphos, 3 kyliks, 3 amphoriskos, 2 skyphos, 2 alabastron, 2 pelike, 2 tuzluk, 1 amphora ve 1 kaseden oluşan toplam 66 adet Attika üretimi seramik ele geçmiştir. Bu seramiklerin arasında en erken tarihli olanları bir çocuğa ait olan pithos mezardan gelen ve İÖ 6. yüzyılın ikinci çeyreğine tarihlenen üç adet amphoriskosdur. Çalışmada yer alan en geç tarihli örnekler ise İÖ 350-325 yıllarına tarihlenen ve bir taş lahit mezardan ele geçen cup-kantharoslardır. Buluntuların büyük bölümü lekythos ve alabastronların oluşturduğu koku kapları ile bolsal, stemless, kyliks, skyphos, cup-skyphos ve cup-kantharos oluşan içki kaplarından oluşur. Bu içki kapları Attika parlak siyah firnisli olup, tondolarında baskı bezeme olarak yapılmış palmet ve dil motifleri yer almaktadır. Lekythoslarda ise beş örnek bodur lekythos sınıfından olup, bunların ikisinde kırmızı figür tekniğinde yapılmış figürlü tasvirler yer alırken diğeri tek renk firnisle boyanmışlardır. Geriye kalan on iki lekythos kaideye doğru daralan dik gövdeli ve disk formunda olup bunlardan biri kırmızı figür tekniğinde, on biri siyah figür tekniği ile yapılmış figüratif tasvirlerle bezelidir. Eldeki veriler Attika üretimi seramiklerin Antandros Nekropolisi’nde İÖ 6. yüzyılın ilk yarısından itibaren mezar hediyesi olarak bırakılmaya başlandığını, 5. yüzyılda bunların artarak devam ettiğini ve 4. yüzyılın sonlarına kadar kullanıldığını göstermektedir. Yani Attika ürünlerinin daha çok Klasik dönemde kullanıldığını ortaya koymaktadır. This paper studies the Attic pottery found in the tombs unearthed in the years 2001-2010 at the Necropolis of Antandros. Although there have been many tombs uncovered in the necropolis from various periods, only 17 of them bore pottery of Attic production. 12 of these tombs were stone sarcophagi, while the remaining five were consisted of one pithos, one roof tile, and three simple inhumation tombs. Two of these 17 tombs have been dated to the archaic period while the other two belong to the classical period. From these tombs a total of 66 Attic pottery vessels have been unearthed. These 66 vessels include 18 lekythoi, 14 bolsals, 11 stemless cups, 4 cup-cantharoi, 3 cup-skyphoi, 3 kylikes, 3 amphoriskoi, 2 skyphoi, 2 alabastra, 2 pelikes, 2 salt-cellars, 1 amphora and 1 bowl. Among these vessels, the earliest ones are the three amphoriskoi, dated to the second quarter of the 6th century BC, which were found in the pithos tomb that belonged to a child. The latest vessels in this study are the cup-kantharoi found in a stone sarcophagus dated the 350-325 BC. The majority of the finds are perfume bottles, lekythoi and alabastra, and drinking cups, bolsals, stemless cups, kylikes, skyphoi, cup-skyphoi and cup-cantharoi. These drinking vessels have shiny black Attic glaze with stamped palmette and tongue decoration in the tondo. Five of the lekythoi are of the squat type, two of which have red-figure decorations and three are Attic black glazed. The remaining 13 lekythoi have vertical bodies that taper towards the disc-shaped base, one of which has a red-figure decoration and the remaining twelve have a black figure decoration. The data collected so far indicates that Attic pottery appeared at the Necropolis of Antandros as tomb offerings in the first half of the 6th century BC. Its use seems to increase in the 5th century BC and they remained in use until the end of the 4th century BC. It can be concluded that Attic pottery was more frequently used at the Necropolis of Antandros during the Classical Period.
