Yiannis Christidis and Efi Kyprianidou are involved in an experimental collaboration using digital media to explore the relationship between repetitive bodily processes, such as walking, and the mental experiences of mind-wandering and focused reasoning. The present artwork aims to critically examine the special relation of walking to mind-clearing and thinking, focusing on walking’s repetitiveness, drawing on White Dog by Charles Bukowski, and attempting a conceptual parallelization with the above twofold model. Left foot, right foot. Left foot, right foot: during that otherwise monotonous procedure the body is active without at the same time demanding the mind’s concentration or significant cognitive control. This continuous and automatic performance of the body – a kind of “flow” experience – frees the mind and directs attention away from the self and toward the outside world, or facilitates a concrete mode of self-reflection. Recently, research in the fields of psychology and neuroscience provided evidence that avoiding self-focused attention may have positive affects to overcoming negative memory and symptoms of depression (Brockmeyer et al 2015).

We assessed the Greek version of the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (BSES-SF), including its predictive validity in terms of Breastfeeding (BF) and Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) up to the sixth month. Methods A methodological study with longitudinal design among 586 mother-infant dyads, as part of the “BrEaST Start in Life” project. BSES was assessed 24–48 h after birth and at the first month. Breastfeeding status was assessed at the clinic, the 1st, 4th and 6th month. The association between BSES and breastfeeding was estimated in logistic regression models and its diagnostic ability in ROC analysis. Results With Mean = 3.55 (SD = 0.85), BSES was moderate, and lower among Cypriot women, primiparas and those who delivered by Cesarean Section (C/S). There was good internal consistency across the 14 items (Cronbach’s α = 0.94) while factor analysis revealed a two-factor structure. BSES scores were higher among mothers who initiated exclusive breastfeeding (M = 3.92, SD = 0.80) compared to breastfeeding not exclusively (M = 3.29, SD = 0.84) and not breastfeeding (M = 3.04, SD = 1.09; p-value 3.96 as per ROC) had 58.9% positive and 79.6% negative predictive value for breastfeeding at 6 months which reflects higher sensitivity but lower specificity. Conclusions The Greek version of BSES-SF showed good metric properties (construct, know-group, concurrent and predictive validity). In the absence of community support structures or programmes in Cyprus, prevalence of breastfeeding remains low. This suggests a need for policy, educational and community support interventions, including the systematic use of BSES scale as a screening tool to identify those at higher risk for premature BF discontinuation.

Mothers knowledge can be considered as an important factor when determining childcare, as they are often the primary decision maker for their childrens healthcare issues. This study aimed to assess the level of mothers knowledge and practice on certain aspects of vaccination for their child/children in Greece. Methods This was an online cross-sectional survey, which collected information about mothers socio-demographic characteristics, vaccination-related information, and vaccine knowledge using a self-administered questionnaire. The survey was conducted between April 2020 and June 2020 and the study population included mothers over 18 years old with at least one child (

In chronic heart failure, recurrent hospitalizations characterize disease burden but the risk of death is not negligible. This leads to two main challenges. First, the definition of a clinically interpretable treatment effect measure (estimand) needs careful attention. Second, finding suitable analysis methods (estimators) that target the estimand of interest is difficult. In this paper we study the two estimands using the while-alive strategy described by Schmidli et al. (2021). For realistic chronic heart failure populations based on joint frailty model assumptions, we calculate the estimand values analytically and discuss their clinical interpretability. We also show that Quasi-Poisson regression leads to an asymptotically unbiased estimator for the two estimands using the while-alive strategy, and that Lin-Wei-Yang-Ying is asymptotically unbiased under constant event rate conditional on being alive, by both analytic derivation and numerical simulations. We also investigate these estimators, together with the method-of-moments-estimator, in two chronic heart failure clinical trials. The findings in this paper support the claim that treatment effect measures can be defined based on recurrent event endpoints that are clinically interpretable and statistically estimable.
