For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.euResearch data keyboard_double_arrow_right Dataset 2022Publisher:Mendeley Authors: Ballantyne, J;Ballantyne, J;The gVOF package implements several accurate and efficient geometric volume of fluid (VOF) methods on arbitrary grids, either structured or unstructured with convex or non-convex cells, based on multidimensional unsplit advection and piecewise linear interface calculation (PLIC) schemes, with the purpose of facilitating and extending the use of advanced unsplit geometric VOF methods in new or existing computational fluid dynamics codes. The package includes a complete and self-contained set of routines for VOF initialization, interface reconstruction and fluid advection, and uses as external libraries a set of publicly available in-house tools to perform several analytical and geometrical operations. These operations may involve handling of high-complex non-convex flux polyhedra, even with self-intersecting faces, which are robustly and efficiently treated in this work without the need of costly techniques based on convex decomposition. Results for the accuracy, computational efficiency, and volume (local and global) conservation properties of different combinations of the implemented advection and reconstruction methods are presented for several numerical tests on structured and unstructured grids. An extensive comparison with results obtained by other authors using advanced geometric VOF methods shows the outstanding performance of the gVOF package in terms of efficiency and accuracy. To demonstrate the performance of the package in solving complex two-phase flow problems, the implemented methods are combined with an existing in-house code to simulate the impact of a water drop on a free surface. In total, 57 rainwater samples were collected on monthly basis using passive collectors installed at different altitudes (upper - 221 masl, middle - 145 masl and lower - 72 masl basin). Twelve surface water samples were obtained from three sampling sites located along the Del Azul Creek (upper basin - Site 1, middle basin - Site 2 and lower basin - Site 3) and from six wetlands which are located following the regional groundwater flow. Groundwater samples were sampled from 17 shallow boreholes (3 – 10 m, screened in their last meter) and 12 deep boreholes (30 m depth, screened between 25 and 30 m). In both surface water and groundwater sampling, superficial flow rates and piezometric levels were measured, and water samples for chemical and isotopic analyses were collected. Our data may improve the understanding of key hydrological processes controlling the water movement, and the chemical composition and chemical quality of water (i.e. arsenic, fluoride, nitrate, sulphate, alkalinity contents) in a large sub-humid agricultural plain.Please do not hesitate to contact María Emilia Zabala (mzabala@ihlla.org.ar) (Intituto de Hidrología de Llanuras “Dr. Eduardo J. The code consists of two files: the file frkgcore.c contains the code necessary to obtain a solution to the problem prescribed in frkguser.c. The files Tables_N1-N2/arks_<N>_<a>_<b>.csv contain the coefficents for FRKG schemes at orders N=1...2 and, at each order, over a range of 18 Gegenbauer coefficient values running from 0 to 2N. The coefficients for each scheme is provided for up to Nx257 stages. The default problem is similar to the Brusselator presented by Hairer & Wanner (see (1.6) of Sect. IV.1): a stiff nonlinear diffusion-reaction problem describing chemical kinetics of a tri-molecular chemical reaction subject to periodic boundary conditions. Advection is added following Abdulle & Vilmart (2013). The problem is specified via three user defined functions: deriv() - populates f(W)=W_t; spec() - returns spectral radius; and Wexact(). User parameters are: RTOL - error tolerence; NE - number of grid points (including boundary) assuming a uniform square mesh; TEND; XMAX; XMIN. To apply the FRKG scheme to other problems it should only be necessary to supply a modified version of frkguser.c. Note that complex variables are used via complex.h internally to the time-marching function trystep(). Above trystep() no complex variables are visible. For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.euResearch data keyboard_double_arrow_right Dataset 2022Publisher:Mendeley Authors: Ballantyne, J;Ballantyne, J;The gVOF package implements several accurate and efficient geometric volume of fluid (VOF) methods on arbitrary grids, either structured or unstructured with convex or non-convex cells, based on multidimensional unsplit advection and piecewise linear interface calculation (PLIC) schemes, with the purpose of facilitating and extending the use of advanced unsplit geometric VOF methods in new or existing computational fluid dynamics codes. The package includes a complete and self-contained set of routines for VOF initialization, interface reconstruction and fluid advection, and uses as external libraries a set of publicly available in-house tools to perform several analytical and geometrical operations. These operations may involve handling of high-complex non-convex flux polyhedra, even with self-intersecting faces, which are robustly and efficiently treated in this work without the need of costly techniques based on convex decomposition. Results for the accuracy, computational efficiency, and volume (local and global) conservation properties of different combinations of the implemented advection and reconstruction methods are presented for several numerical tests on structured and unstructured grids. An extensive comparison with results obtained by other authors using advanced geometric VOF methods shows the outstanding performance of the gVOF package in terms of efficiency and accuracy. To demonstrate the performance of the package in solving complex two-phase flow problems, the implemented methods are combined with an existing in-house code to simulate the impact of a water drop on a free surface. In total, 57 rainwater samples were collected on monthly basis using passive collectors installed at different altitudes (upper - 221 masl, middle - 145 masl and lower - 72 masl basin). Twelve surface water samples were obtained from three sampling sites located along the Del Azul Creek (upper basin - Site 1, middle basin - Site 2 and lower basin - Site 3) and from six wetlands which are located following the regional groundwater flow. Groundwater samples were sampled from 17 shallow boreholes (3 – 10 m, screened in their last meter) and 12 deep boreholes (30 m depth, screened between 25 and 30 m). In both surface water and groundwater sampling, superficial flow rates and piezometric levels were measured, and water samples for chemical and isotopic analyses were collected. The code consists of two files: the file frkgcore.c contains the code necessary to obtain a solution to the problem prescribed in frkguser.c. The files Tables_N1-N2/arks_<N>_<a>_<b>.csv contain the coefficents for FRKG schemes at orders N=1...2 and, at each order, over a range of 18 Gegenbauer coefficient values running from 0 to 2N. The coefficients for each scheme is provided for up to Nx257 stages. The default problem is similar to the Brusselator presented by Hairer & Wanner (see (1.6) of Sect. IV.1): a stiff nonlinear diffusion-reaction problem describing chemical kinetics of a tri-molecular chemical reaction subject to periodic boundary conditions. Advection is added following Abdulle & Vilmart (2013). The problem is specified via three user defined functions: deriv() - populates f(W)=W_t; spec() - returns spectral radius; and Wexact(). User parameters are: RTOL - error tolerence; NE - number of grid points (including boundary) assuming a uniform square mesh; TEND; XMAX; XMIN. To apply the FRKG scheme to other problems it should only be necessary to supply a modified version of frkguser.c. Note that complex variables are used via complex.h internally to the time-marching function trystep(). Above trystep() no complex variables are visible.
