The deep-water sedimentary processes and morphological features offshore Madeira Island, located in the Central-NE Atlantic have been scantly studied. The analysis of new multibeam bathymetry, echo-sounder profiles and few multichannel seismic reflection profiles allowed us to identify the main geomorphologies, geomorphic processes and their interplay. Several types of features were identified below 3800 m water depth, shaped mainly by i) the interplay between northward-flowing Antarctic Bottom Water (AABW) and turbidity currents and ii) interaction of the AABW with oceanic reliefs and the Madeira lower slope. Subordinate and localized geomorphic processes consist of tectono-magmatic, slope instability, turbidity currents and fluid migration. The distribution of the morphological features defines three regional geomorphological sectors. Sector 1 represents a deep seafloor with its abyssal hills, basement highs and seamounts inherited from Early Cretaceous seafloor spreading. Sector 2 is exclusively shaped by turbidity current flows that formed channels and associated levees. Sector 3 presents a more complex morphology dominated by widespread depositional and erosional features formed by AABW circulation, and localized mixed contourite system developed by the interplay between the AABW circulation and WNW-ESE-flowing turbidite currents. The interaction of the AABW with abyssal hills, seamounts and basement ridges leads to the formation of several types of contourites: patch drifts, double-crest mounded bodies, and elongated, mounded and separated drifts. The patch drifts formed downstream of abyssal hills defining an previously unknown field of relatively small contourites. We suggest they may be a result of localized vortexes that formed when the AABW’s flow impinges these oceanic reliefs producingthe erosional scours that bound these features. The bottom currents in the area are known to be too weak (1–2 cm s− 1) to produce the patch drifts and scours. Therefore, we suggest that these features could be relics at present, having developed when the AABW was stronger than today, as during glacial/end of glacial stages. SUBVENT

The H2020 CAPTOR project deployed three testbeds in Spain, Italy and Austria with low-cost sensors for the measurement of tropospheric ozone (O3). The aim of the H2020 CAPTOR project was to raise public awareness in a project focused on citizen science. Each testbed was supported by an NGO in charge of deciding how to raise citizen awareness according to the needs of each country. The data presented here correspond to the raw data captured by the sensor nodes in the Spanish testbed using SGX Sensortech MICS 2614 metal-oxide sensors. The Spanish testbed consisted of the deployment of twenty-five nodes. Each sensor node included four SGX Sensortech MICS 2614 ozone sensors, one temperature sensor and one relative humidity sensor. Each node underwent a calibration process by co-locating the node at a reference station, followed by a deployment in a non-urban area in Catalonia, Spain. All nodes spent two to three weeks co-located at a reference station in Barcelona, Spain (urban area), followed by two to three weeks co-located at three non-urban reference stations near the final deployment site. The nodes were then deployed in volunteers' homes for about two months and, finally, the nodes were co-located again at the non-urban reference stations for two weeks. All data presented in this repository are raw data taken by the sensors that can be used for scientific purposes such as calibration studies using machine learning algorithms, or once the concentration values of the nodes are obtained, they can be used to create tropospheric ozone pollution maps with heterogeneous sources (reference stations and low-cost sensors). {"references": ["A. This dataset contains python scripts to calibrate tropospheric ozone sensor data obtained in the H2020 Captor project using sensor fusion techniques. Four different models are implemented; Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN),Random Forest(RF) and Support Vector Regression (SVR). The methodology consists of first applying the PLS procedure to derive orthogonal components (to avoid multicollinearity problems). Afterwards, the components are used as features in the machine learning algorithms, so the models are trained. The scripts available in this repository have been used in the elaboration of the paper: "Multi-sensor data fusion calibration in IoT air pollution platforms" submitted to the IEEE Internet of Things journal. Although a rich record of Pleistocene human-associated archaeological assemblages exists, the scarcity of hominin fossils often impedes the understanding of which hominins occupied a site. Using targeted enrichment of mitochondrial DNA we show that cave sediments represent a rich source of ancient mammalian DNA that often includes traces of hominin DNA, even at sites and in layers where no hominin remains have been discovered. By automation-assisted screening of numerous sediment samples we detect Neandertal DNA in eight archaeological layers from four caves in Eurasia. In Denisova Cave we retrieved Denisovan DNA in a Middle Pleistocene layer near the bottom of the stratigraphy. Our work opens the possibility to detect the presence of hominin groups at sites and in areas where no skeletal remains are found. Multiple sequence alignment files This submission contains multiple sequence alignment files used for phylogenetic reconstructions. Sequences reconstructed from sediments are denominated by the site and layer of origin. The comparative data (identical in all files) is identified by the name of the individual and the accession code of its mtDNA sequence. MSA_sedimentDNA.zip Peer reviewed
