    ELEXIS-WSD is a parallel sense-annotated corpus in which content words (nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs) have been assigned senses. Version 1.0 contains sentences for 10 languages: Bulgarian, Danish, English, Spanish, Estonian, Hungarian, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, and Slovene. The corpus was compiled by automatically extracting a set of sentences from WikiMatrix (Schwenk et al., 2019), a large open-access collection of parallel sentences derived from Wikipedia, using an automatic approach based on multilingual sentence embeddings. The sentences were manually validated according to specific formal, lexical and semantic criteria (e.g. by removing incorrect punctuation, morphological errors, notes in square brackets and etymological information typically provided in Wikipedia pages). To obtain a satisfying semantic coverage, we filtered out sentences with less than 5 words and less than 2 polysemous words were filtered out. Subsequently, in order to obtain datasets in the other nine target languages, for each selected sentence in English, the corresponding WikiMatrix translation into each of the other languages was retrieved. If no translation was available, the English sentence was translated manually. The resulting corpus is comprised of 2,024 sentences for each language. The sentences were tokenized, lemmatized, and tagged with POS tags using UDPipe v2.6 (https://lindat.mff.cuni.cz/services/udpipe/). Senses were annotated using LexTag (https://elexis.babelscape.com/): each content word (noun, verb, adjective, and adverb) was assigned a sense from among the available senses from the sense inventory selected for the language (see below) or BabelNet. Sense inventories were also updated with new senses during annotation. In order, the columns contain the token ID, its form, its lemma, its UPOS-tag, its whitespace information (whether the token is followed by a whitespace or not), the ID of the sense assigned to the token, and the index of the multiword expression (if the token is part of an annotated multiword expression). Each language has a separate sense inventory containing all the senses (and their definitions) used for annotation in the corpus. Not all the senses from the sense inventory are necessarily included in the corpus annotations: for instance, all occurrences of the English noun "bank" in the corpus might be annotated with the sense of "financial institution", but the sense inventory also contains the sense "edge of a river" as well as all other possible senses to disambiguate between.     The dataset consists of 7514 Slovenian news articles from the SentiNews 1.0 corpus by Bučar et al. 2017 (http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1110) which had available article keywords. We provide the train and test data splits (5995 articles for training and 1519 for testing) that can be used for keyword extraction experiments. The format is a json file, containing the following fields: title, keywords, lang (always Slovene) and body (with the content of the article). In our paper we addressed keyword extraction in a cross-lingual setting: Koloski, Boshko, et al.     This dataset contains articles from EMBEDDIA Media partners with various information added by the tools developed within the EMBEDDIA project: - 12,390 Estonian articles from 2019 with tags given by Ekspress Meedia. The complete dataset without the output of EMBEDDIA tools is available at http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1408 - 5,000 Croatian articles from autumn of 2010 with tags given by 24sata. The complete dataset without the output of EMBEDDIA tools is available at http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1410 - 15,264 Latvian articles from 2019 with tags given by Ekspress Meedia. The complete dataset without the output of EMBEDDIA tools is available at http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1409 All the articles in the dataset have been analysed with texta-mlp Python package (https://pypi.org/project/texta-mlp/) via the EMBEDDIA Media assistant's Texta Toolkit (https://docs.texta.ee/). The tools used to analyse the articles were the following: - Latin1 and Latin2 Name Entity Recognition Tool modules (Cabrera-Diego et al., 2021, both described in https://aclanthology.org/2021.bsnlp-1.12/) . The Latin 1 results can be found folders annotated_articles_ner_latin1/ and annotated_articles_all_tools/, while the Latin 2 results are in annotated_articles_nerlatin2/ or annotated_articles_all_tools/. - RAKUN keyword extractor. RAKUN (Škrlj et al. 2019) is an unsupervised system for keyword extraction, so it can be used for any language. It detects keywords by turning text into a graph and the most important nodes in the graph mostly turn out to be the keywords. It is described in https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-31372-2_26. The keyword annotation results can be found in the folder annotated_articles_rakun/ or annotated_articles_all_tools/. - TNT-KID keyword extractor. TNT-KID (Martinc et al. 2021, ) is a supervised system for automatic keyword extraction. It was trained on a corpus of articles with human-assigned keywords. For Croatian, the annotators were 24sata editors, for Estonian the Ekspress Meedia staff and for Latvian the Latvian Delfi staff. The system is further documented at https://doi.org/10.1017/S1351324921000127. For Croatian only TNT-KID was applied, while for Estonian and Latvian, the TNT-KID with TF-IDF, and extension by Koloski et al. (https://aclanthology.org/2021.hackashop-1.4.pdf) was used. The results of applying this tool are found in the folder annotated articles tnt_kid/ or annotated articles all tools/. - Sentiment analysis. Our news sentiment analyser (Pelicon et al. 2020) labels a news article as being of positive, negative, or neutral sentiment, using a fine-tuned multilingual BERT model, which was trained on Slovene sentiment annotated news articles. The system is further documented in https://doi.org/10.3390/app10175993. The results of this tools are found in the folder annotated articles sentiment/ or annotated articles all tools/. All the data is encoded in "JSON Lines" format. Each folder has its own README file which explains the structure of the files.

    The KAS corpus of Slovene academic writing consists of almost 65,000 BSc/BA, 16,000 MSc/MA and 1,600 PhD theses (82 thousand texts, 5 million pages or 1,5 billion tokens) written 2000 - 2018 and gathered from the digital libraries of Slovene higher education institutions via the Slovene Open Science portal (http://openscience.si/). The theses have associated with them significant metadata, while each thesis in the corpus contains its textual body, i.e. without their front and back matter. The body is divided into chapters, then into pages, these into paragraphs, and then into sentences. The sentence tokens are tagged with morphosyntactically descriptions (detailed part-of-speech tags) and the words lemmatised. As opposed to the previous version 1.0, the KAS corpus of Slovene academic writing 2.0 is cleaner and contains segmentations into chapters. The metadata also contains more information about research fields of each work. Both versions consist of the same number of BSc/BA, MSc/MA, and PhD theses, however, the processing was done from scratch for 2.0, so the number of e.g. pages and tokens is different. Note also that the new version does not contain links to the PNG pictures of individual pages , nor does it contain annotated terms, both present in version 1.0. It is, unlike 1.0, also not mounted on the CLARIN.SI concordancers. The new version is distributed in the canonical TEI encoding, JSON, and as plain text files. In the TEI format, chapter names are denoted with the tag. Each entry in JSON files have a string ID and a list containing names of chapters as its first element and texts as its second element.     The Machine Translation datasets KAS-MT 1.0 contain automatically sentence-aligned Slovene and English plain-text abstracts from KAS-Abs 2.0 (http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1449) and is meant for studies in machine translation. The setence alignment approach used requires an alignment reliability threshold that omits candidate pairs below a certain value. This value represents a trade-off between the quantity and quality of aligned pairs. We estimate that the default threshold value produces a good-quality dataset for most users. We release three such datasets (files) that reflect a trade-off between quality and quantity of the data. The Normal dataset uses the default reliability threshold and contains 496,102 sentence pairs, the Strict dataset 474,852 sentence pairs, and the Very Strict dataset 425,534 sentence pairs. A file with thesis metadata is also included. The first column in each of the three TSV files gives the confidence that the alignment is correct (higher is better), the second and third are the source and target Slovene and English sentences, while the fourth gives the “merged” state, i.e. whether sentences in the source or target language were merged (sentences do not always exhibit one-to-one mapping).     The KAS-abs 2.0 corpus contains 125,202 automatically identified Slovenian and/or English abstracts from BSc/BA, MSc/MA, and PhD theses included in the KAS Corpus of Academic Slovene 2.0 (http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1448). The abstracts are either in Slovenian (*-abs-sl.txt, 71,567 files) or English (*-abs-en.txt, 53,635 files); note that some theses have the abstract only in one language. The abstracts are stored in the same manner as the KAS corpus, i.e. as individual files in 1,000 directories, each with the same file identifier suffix. The file with the metadata of the theses is also included. The corpus can be useful for research in e.g. machine translations and terminology extraction, or, using also the full texts from the KAS corpus, for studies in automatic summarisation. Note that there exists the related corpus http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1447, which contains the automatically sentence aligned bi-lingual abstract, and http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1446, which contains a pre-prepared summarization dataset.     Summarization datasets were created from the text bodies in the KAS 2.0 corpus (http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1448) and the abstracts from the KAS-Abs 2.0 corpus (http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1449). The monolingual slo2slo dataset contains 69,730 Slovene abstracts and Slovene body texts. The cross-lingual slo2eng dataset contains 52,351 Slovene body texts and English abstracts. It is suitable for building cross-lingual summarization models. Total number of words represent the sum of words in bodies, Slovene abstracts, and English abstracts. The files are stored in the same manner as the complete KAS corpus, i.e. in 1,000 directories with the same filename prefix as in KAS. They are in the JSON format that contains chapter segmented text. In addition to a unique chapter ID, each JSON file contains a key titled “abstract” that contains a list with abstract text as its first element. The file with the metadata for the corpus texts is also included. The datasets are suitable for training monolingual Slovene summarization models and cross-lingual Slovene-English summarization models on long texts.     EACL Hackashop Keyword Challenge Datasets In this repository you can find ids of articles used for the keyword extraction challenge at EACL Hackashop on News Media Content Analysis and Automated Report Generation (http://embeddia.eu/hackashop2021/). The article ids can be used to generate train-test split used in paper: Koloski, B., Pollak, S., Škrlj, B., & Martinc, M. (2021). Extending Neural Keyword Extraction with TF-IDF tagset matching.     The 24sata news portal consists of a portal with daily news and several smaller portals covering news from specific topics, such as automotive news, health, culinary content, and lifestyle advice. The dataset contains over 650,000 articles in Croatian from 2007 to 2019, as well as assigned tags. Description of the Dataset The dataset consists of 11 columns and 657806 rows. Each row represents a single news article published on the 24sata news portals. Besides the 'www.24sata.hr', the biggest news portal, articles from other niche portals affiliated with 24sata are also included. Columns: 'article_id' - Public id of the article on the new site. The article can be accessed by concatenating the site URL and article_id. For example, to access the article with article_id 614684, you can access it on 'www.24sata.hr/--614684'. This id is, by itself, not unique across the dataset - articles from different portals can share the same article_id. 'site' - The location of the portals where the article came from. There are eight different portals covering topics of daily news, to the more focused portals about automotive technologies and trends, health and wellness, culinary trends and recipes, or lifestyle advices. 'title' - The title of the news article. 'lead' - Lead text, a short introduction to the content of an article. Can be empty. 'content' - The content of the news article, contains the bulk of the text. Can be empty if the whole article could fit in the lead text. 'tags' - Tags, zero or more, separated with a '|' character. Article tags are chosen by the author of the article. 'section' - The main section of the news portal where the article was posted (does not need to be set). The most frequent section is 'Vijesti' (News). 'subsection' - The subsection of the section where the article was posted (does not need to be set). Each section can have multiple subsections. 'authors' - Article authors, zero or more, separated with a '|' character. The author does not need to sign the article if he chooses not to so this can be empty. 'published_from' - A date when this article appeared on the portal. Journalists can write the article in advance and pick a future date and time when it will appear on the site. Due to this strategy, the 'published_from' can be much later than the 'date_created'. 'date_created' - A date when this article was originally written. For all articles published before 2nd Feb 2010 the 'date_created' is set to 2nd Feb 2010 - this is the date when the portal was redesigned and the database with news articles recreated.

    The dataset is an archive of articles from the Ekspress Meedia news site from 2009-2019, containing over 1.4M articles, mostly in Estonian language (1,115,120 articles) with some in Russian (325,952 articles). Keywords are included for articles after 2015. The main archive is in file ee_articles_2009_2019. Other files contain derived versions and subsets - please see README files inside those zip files. The main archive contains JSON files of all the Estonian articles from the year 2009 to 2019 May. These datasets are intended for usage in EMBEDDIA, a H2020 project.     ELEXIS-WSD is a parallel sense-annotated corpus in which content words (nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs) have been assigned senses. Version 1.0 contains sentences for 10 languages: Bulgarian, Danish, English, Spanish, Estonian, Hungarian, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, and Slovene. The corpus was compiled by automatically extracting a set of sentences from WikiMatrix (Schwenk et al., 2019), a large open-access collection of parallel sentences derived from Wikipedia, using an automatic approach based on multilingual sentence embeddings. The sentences were manually validated according to specific formal, lexical and semantic criteria (e.g. by removing incorrect punctuation, morphological errors, notes in square brackets and etymological information typically provided in Wikipedia pages). To obtain a satisfying semantic coverage, we filtered out sentences with less than 5 words and less than 2 polysemous words were filtered out. Subsequently, in order to obtain datasets in the other nine target languages, for each selected sentence in English, the corresponding WikiMatrix translation into each of the other languages was retrieved. If no translation was available, the English sentence was translated manually. The resulting corpus is comprised of 2,024 sentences for each language. The sentences were tokenized, lemmatized, and tagged with POS tags using UDPipe v2.6 (https://lindat.mff.cuni.cz/services/udpipe/). Senses were annotated using LexTag (https://elexis.babelscape.com/): each content word (noun, verb, adjective, and adverb) was assigned a sense from among the available senses from the sense inventory selected for the language (see below) or BabelNet. Sense inventories were also updated with new senses during annotation. In order, the columns contain the token ID, its form, its lemma, its UPOS-tag, its whitespace information (whether the token is followed by a whitespace or not), the ID of the sense assigned to the token, and the index of the multiword expression (if the token is part of an annotated multiword expression). Each language has a separate sense inventory containing all the senses (and their definitions) used for annotation in the corpus. Not all the senses from the sense inventory are necessarily included in the corpus annotations: for instance, all occurrences of the English noun "bank" in the corpus might be annotated with the sense of "financial institution", but the sense inventory also contains the sense "edge of a river" as well as all other possible senses to disambiguate between.     The dataset consists of 7514 Slovenian news articles from the SentiNews 1.0 corpus by Bučar et al. 2017 (http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1110) which had available article keywords. We provide the train and test data splits (5995 articles for training and 1519 for testing) that can be used for keyword extraction experiments. The format is a json file, containing the following fields: title, keywords, lang (always Slovene) and body (with the content of the article).     This dataset contains articles from EMBEDDIA Media partners with various information added by the tools developed within the EMBEDDIA project: - 12,390 Estonian articles from 2019 with tags given by Ekspress Meedia. The complete dataset without the output of EMBEDDIA tools is available at http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1408 - 5,000 Croatian articles from autumn of 2010 with tags given by 24sata. The complete dataset without the output of EMBEDDIA tools is available at http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1410 - 15,264 Latvian articles from 2019 with tags given by Ekspress Meedia. The complete dataset without the output of EMBEDDIA tools is available at http://hdl.handle.net/11356/1409 All the articles in the dataset have been analysed with texta-mlp Python package (https://pypi.org/project/texta-mlp/) via the EMBEDDIA Media assistant's Texta Toolkit (https://docs.texta.ee/). The tools used to analyse the articles were the following: - Latin1 and Latin2 Name Entity Recognition Tool modules (Cabrera-Diego et al., 2021, both described in https://aclanthology.org/2021.bsnlp-1.12/) . The Latin 1 results can be found folders annotated_articles_ner_latin1/ and annotated_articles_all_tools/, while the Latin 2 results are in annotated_articles_nerlatin2/ or annotated_articles_all_tools/. - RAKUN keyword extractor. RAKUN (Škrlj et al. 2019) is an unsupervised system for keyword extraction, so it can be used for any language. It detects keywords by turning text into a graph and the most important nodes in the graph mostly turn out to be the keywords. It is described in https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-31372-2_26. The keyword annotation results can be found in the folder annotated_articles_rakun/ or annotated_articles_all_tools/. - TNT-KID keyword extractor. TNT-KID (Martinc et al. 2021, ) is a supervised system for automatic keyword extraction. It was trained on a corpus of articles with human-assigned keywords. For Croatian, the annotators were 24sata editors, for Estonian the Ekspress Meedia staff and for Latvian the Latvian Delfi staff. The system is further documented at https://doi.org/10.1017/S1351324921000127. For Croatian only TNT-KID was applied, while for Estonian and Latvian, the TNT-KID with TF-IDF, and extension by Koloski et al. (https://aclanthology.org/2021.hackashop-1.4.pdf) was used. The results of applying this tool are found in the folder annotated articles tnt_kid/ or annotated articles all tools/. - Sentiment analysis. Our news sentiment analyser (Pelicon et al. 2020) labels a news article as being of positive, negative, or neutral sentiment, using a fine-tuned multilingual BERT model, which was trained on Slovene sentiment annotated news articles. The system is further documented in https://doi.org/10.3390/app10175993. The results of this tools are found in the folder annotated articles sentiment/ or annotated articles all tools/. All the data is encoded in "JSON Lines" format. Each folder has its own README file which explains the structure of the files.

    The KAS corpus of Slovene academic writing consists of almost 65,000 BSc/BA, 16,000 MSc/MA and 1,600 PhD theses (82 thousand texts, 5 million pages or 1,5 billion tokens) written 2000 - 2018 and gathered from the digital libraries of Slovene higher education institutions via the Slovene Open Science portal (http://openscience.si/). The theses have associated with them significant metadata, while each thesis in the corpus contains its textual body, i.e. without their front and back matter. The body is divided into chapters, then into pages, these into paragraphs, and then into sentences. The sentence tokens are tagged with morphosyntactically descriptions (detailed part-of-speech tags) and the words lemmatised. As opposed to the previous version 1.0, the KAS corpus of Slovene academic writing 2.0 is cleaner and contains segmentations into chapters. The metadata also contains more information about research fields of each work. Both versions consist of the same number of BSc/BA, MSc/MA, and PhD theses, however, the processing was done from scratch for 2.0, so the number of e.g. pages and tokens is different. Note also that the new version does not contain links to the PNG pictures of individual pages , nor does it contain annotated terms, both present in version 1.0. It is, unlike 1.0, also not mounted on the CLARIN.SI concordancers. The new version is distributed in the canonical TEI encoding, JSON, and as plain text files. In the TEI format, chapter names are denoted with the tag. Each entry in JSON files have a string ID and a list containing names of chapters as its first element and texts as its second element.
