The numismatic material presented below comes from the archaeological researches carried out within the project “ ANR‐ Pont Euxin. Orgamè, nécropole et territoire", coordinated by Alexandre Baralis (Musée du Louvre) and Vasilica Lungu (ISSEE). Most of the 16 monetary pieces are dated during the 6th– 3rd centuries BC and in the Late Roman Empire, as follows : five „ arrowheads”, an early Istrian coin of Apollo type, an undetermined small Greek coin and nine Roman nummi of the 4th Century AD (including an imitation), dating from Constantine I to Valens. Despite the small number, the coins in the catalogue enrich the information known so far, including two more rarely encountered items. They confirm a high level of commercial activities at Orgame/ Argamum and its surroundings in the 6th– 5th century BC, but also during the era of Dominate, attested by at least three large „ arrowheads” hoards, also by an important coin hoard and many isolated pieces of the 4th century AD

In this article the presence of coins from the mints of the Chalcidice within the boundaries of the Macedonian kingdom is examined. Along with coin hoards, we include archaeological material from various sites to understand and interpret the existence of coins of the cities of Chalcidice, the Chalcidic League, and the Bottiaeans within the Macedonian kingdom. After the final conclusions, a group of bronze coins from the excavations of Pella is published as an appendix. Coins from mints of the Chalcidice that have been found in the Macedonian kingdom are few. So far, most coins (37) can be attributed to the Chalcidic League, another 3 to the Bottiaeans, and 4 to the Chalcidic League or the Bottiaeans. Second comes Acanthus with 16 coins, and third Potidaia with 12. Further, 7 coins can be attributed to Aphytis, 5 to Mende, 4 to Scione and 1-2 issues to Aineia, Dikaia and possibly Sermyle. Finally, Ouranopolis is represented with 3 coins. Most of these coins came to light in excavations in burial and non-burial contexts, and some also were buried in coin hoards. The earliest of these issues are dated in the first half of the 5th century BC. The number of coins rises slightly in the second half of the 5th century coins, while most of the numismatic material belongs to the first half of the 4th century BC. Finally, rather few are the coins of the second half of the 4th century BC. Most of the coins and coin hoards of the first half of the 4th century BC can probably be linked to the invasion of the army of the Chalcidic League into Macedonia. People traveling from Chalcidice to Macedonia are another source.

This paper presents an as of the Roman emperor Nero (AD 54-68) struck on a brass flan, into the obverse of which a thin piece of a different metal, now lost, appears to have been originally inlaid. In order to investigate whether this inlay was made of copper, the coin was analysed in the Conservation Science Department of the Kunsthistorisches Museum. The results of the metallurgical investigation are published and discussed here.

An analysis of the Roman Republican numismatic holdings of the museum in Bad Deutsch Altenburg (Lower Austria), containing the finds from the most important Roman site in Austria: ancient Carnuntum. The article also presents general considerations on Mark Antony's legionary issue (RRC 544).

The article presents the coin finds discovered in 2014 and in early 2015. One of the most important discoveries of 2014 is a hoard of drachmas from Histria found somewhere in the left bank of the Dniester River. The author cites data on 26 coins from the hoard. This finding is dated the middle of the 3rd century. There are presented several Roman coins issued by Marcus Aurelius (161-180), Elagabalus (218-222), and Philip the Arab, which were found at different times in and around the village of Sauca, Ocniţa District. During the spring field work in the village of Gârbovăţ (Anenii Noi District) there was found a siliqua issued by Constantius II, which was minted at Antioch and dates back to the period of time between September 9, 337 and the end of 347. This coin is a rarity, at least for Moldova. There are several findings dating to the Middle Ages, including five Moldavian coins of Alexander the Good (groschen and half groschen) and Stephen IV as well as a Polish shilling of John II Casimir, which were discovered near the village of Rădenii Vechi, Ungheni District; coin finds in the area of the Soroca fortress in 2014 and in the spring of 2015; coins found in the village of Ciuteşti, Nisporeni District, etc. Among the finds from the village Opriseni, Chernivtsi region (Ukraine) there is mentioned a groschen of Peter I Muşat (1375-1391) minted after 1386/1387.

This article discusses the coin segments – weights recently found on the territory of the Kherson Region of Ukraine. The weights are trapezoidal in shape and made from Olbia bronze coins of the 4th-3rd centuries BC. There are also considered previously published similar objects originating from the settlements of the chora of Olbia. All of them belong to the Classical and Hellenistic periods. The trapezoidal shape of the weights is characteristic of the Greek population of the Lower Bug Region since archaic times. These home-made segments could easily replace the official weights on the outlying villages of the polis and in its near border area, as well as be used as small and medium weight units in addition to standard, larger weights.

During the 2013– 2017 systematic research undertaken in the South Sector of the archaeological site Histria, 85 coins were collected, out of which 68 pieces (80%) were identified. The excavations have been focused on the northwest boundary of the sector, corresponding to the western part of the enclosure and the compartments of an important edifice identified since 2011– 2012. The size of the coin batch indicates a certain dynamic of monetary presence in an area probably intensely inhabited in the Roman Histria between the second half of the 2nd century AD and the end of the Tetrarchy. Due to the restriction of the fortified enclosure and implicitly of the urban area during the Late Roman Empire, the area of the great edifice was abandoned to the extra muros zone and was overlapped by two levels of necropolis. The 68 coins are chronologically distributed as follows : six coins from the Greek period, 40 coins from the period of Principate (seven denars, 18 antoninians, one sestertius, one dupondius, 13 provincial coins), 16 Late Roman coins and six Byzantine coins from the 6th century AD. Along with monetary issues already documented in the finds at Histria, there are also rarities such as : a coin from the late period of the city''s autonomy, bearing an uncommon countermark (No. 6) ; Istrian coins by Antoninus Pius and Caracalla, of less known types (Nos. 8 and 13), respectively a pseudo‐ autonomous coin with the ICTPI legend engraved in an unusual way (No. 14) ; a piece of 4 assaria of Nicopolis ad Istrum, with a type of reverse not yet documented for the time when L. Aurelius Gallus was governor of Moesia Inferior, more precisely 202– 205 AD (No. 12) ; the single one antoninianus from Gordian III so far registered at Histria (No. 27) ; an antoninianus issued by Vabalathus (No. 38). The structure of the batch generally confirms the previous remarks – occasioned by the publication of the first batch of coins in 2014 – about the monetary presence in the southern area of Histria. Most of the coins were found in a secondary position, with no stratigraphic significance. Exceptions are made by some pieces found in the debris of the walls and on the treading level of the excavated building, at least 16 of which could constitute chronological points of reference. The numismatic material indicates a hypothetical building of the great edifice, probably of public utility, in the first part of the 3rd century AD. After a possible destruction by fire during the “ Scythian War”, it was probably partially rebuilt during the reigns of Aurelian or Probus and functioned until the beginning of the second decade of the 4th century AD, when it was finally devastated, apparently in the course of another fire. The coins sporadically penetrated later do not testify the habitation of the area but are related rather to the funerals during the second half of the 4th century AD and later. A supplement to the article on 'nummi metallorum' in Numismatische Zeitschrift 111/112 (2004) (Zenodo), containing the publication of the only known DARDANICI quadrans of Antoninus Pius as well as important additions regarding the find provenances of "coins of the mines" and their interpretation.

This paper analyses the torsioned bracelets, and the knitted bracelets, with plaques at the ends. The first part synthesizes the stage of the research in Romania. The catalogue of the discoveries, systematized on provinces, type of the findings, materials and techniques used for bracelets are the following parts. According to the execution techniques used for the bracelets, and to the shapes and ornaments of the plaques it was proposed a typology of the items for the present-day territory of Romania. The relative and absolute chronology of this type of bracelets is also discussed, taking into account the discoveries from Bulgaria and eastern Serbia, too. The bracelets were divided into torsioned items, and knitted items. The torsioned bracelets are divided in three main types and some sub-types. The typology of the knitted bracelets includes three types. Finally, the chronological and the diffusion areas were determined for the south-eastern Europe. Several diffusion areas of the torsioned bracelets could be defined. The first group (Dinogetia) was dated in the 10th – 11th centuries in Dobruja, with analogies in Bulgaria and the Russian territory. The next bracelet (Mihail Kogălniceanu) is characteristic to the eastern Balkans, and it is dated in the second half of the 13th century and the beginning of the following century. The third group includes the items found in Moldavia, in Oţeleni and Voineşti, dated in the second half of the 13th century. Another group is formed by the items from different regions of Romania (Transilvania, Dobruja, Moldavia), dated between the second half of the 13th century until the middle of the 14th century.(Păcuiul lui Soare, Amnaş, Voineşti). The bracelets from Basarabi, Jiana Mare and those found in Banat are the latest group, dated late 14th and perhaps early 15th century. Bracelets without direct analogies, such as Runcu (13th century) and Schela Cladovei (cca 1325– 1420) are also discussed. Bracelets made of knitted wires, less used, are concentrated in Oltenia, at Gogoşu (end 14th – early 15th century) and Şuşiţa (late 14th century), and only one found in Moldavia, at Voineşti (second half of the 13th century).

The authors present a coin hoard consisting of 62 Roman Republican denarii and a good style imitation of a denarius, which was recently discovered in the village of Pârscov, Buzău County, in the place called Gorgane‑Observator. The place of discovery is located in the neighbourhoods of the Geto‑Dacian sites from Târcov – Piatra cu Lilieci, Cârlomănești and Pietroasele – Gruiu Dării. The appearance of the coins, in different stages of wear and with numerous incised control‑marks, probably due to the activity of nummularii, indicates a “circulation coin hoard” that reached the north of the Danube in a pre‑constituted form. The denarii fall chronologically between 179– 170 and 19 BC, the imitation having as prototype the denarius of P. Clodius from 42 BC. The core of the hoard consists of three compact groups totalling 51 denarii, each in almost uninterrupted chronological succession, attesting to the intervals 118– 105, 91– 68 and 58– 40 BC. The best documented is the period of Caesar’s ascension, wars and dictatorship, until after the establishment of the 2nd triumvirate, the coins of the 50‑41 decade representing over 25% of the total. The deposit ends with Octavian issues, the last two denarii bearing the title CAESAR AVGVSTVS. It is the first hoard from the time of Augustus discovered on the territory of Buzău County, having as main analogies in terms of chronology and structure the hoards from Valea (Strâmba), Dâmbovița County and Sfântu Gheorghe, Covasna counties. The circumstances of the concealment of the coin hoard are integrated into the context generated by a series of events related by written sources, which took place between about 17/ 16 BC– 10/ 12 AD, which culminated in the relocation of an entire Getic population from north of the Danube, archaeologically confirmed by the cessation of habitation in the great davae and settlements of Wallachia.
