    Розглянуто особливості концертно-фортепіанного стилю А. Караманова — видатного українського композитора, творчість котрого лише останнім часом стає предметом музикознавчого дискурсу. Окреслюється «крива» мовностильової еволюції, етапи якої позначені трьома масштабними концертами композитора, останній з яких, з підзаголовком «Ave Maria», уже здобув світову популярність і увійшов до репертуару видатних виконавців як в Україні, так і за її межами. На основі повного аналізу жанрово-стилістичного комплексу феномену «фортепіанний концерт» запропоновано дефініцію поняття «концертно-фортепіанний стиль», що екстраполюється на авторський стиль А. Караманова в цьому жанрі. Означено та узагальнено характерні ознаки трьох фортепіанних концертів композитора — своєрідного циклу-триптиха, у якому через діяльність А. Караманова як композитора-піаніста втілено константні та індивідуально-новаторські ознаки жанру, що набув значення симфонізованої концептуальної моделі не лише у його творчості, а й у діяльності багатьох композиторів України та зарубіжжя кінця ХХ–ХХI ст.

    This essay will elaborate upon the ambivalences of unreliable communication on social networks, using the case study of social bots. Social bots simulate human users in social networks. If they do not give any indication that they are machines, they can be classified as fake accounts. Social bots can be considered opinion robots as they are used strategically to influence discussions on social networks. What users see on their screens today when they consume news portals, social networks and online platforms corresponds to precarious in_visibility. Bots are the expression of a new kind of visibility politics as they flood the online communication spaces with their highly visible content, interests, and preferences, simulating public opinions and popular trends, while making their technical origin and identity invisible.What is the significance of social bots in the development of digital society when the boundaries between the human and the technical dissolve? A computer-based intelligence and media literacy is required that is not only able to eliminate bots, but also develops the reflective ability to consider machine-based communication and artificial intelligence as a factor of the digital society.

    A better understanding is required about the relation between morphodynamics and mud in estuaries. Currently, only limited studies account for mud in morphodynamic models, which is due to model limitations and a lack of spatially and temporally dense data of mud in the bed. Therefore, the effect of mud on the long-term evolution of estuaries is uncertain. The aim of my PhD project is to; (1) get a better understanding about the spatial patterns and processes of mud deposition; (2) determine the influence of mud on estuary morphology, and (3) understand the relation between mud deposition and preservation in the geological record. I will address these aims on the spatial scale of whole estuarine systems to individual bars and temporal scales of decades to millennia. As a secondary objective, I want to understand how these processes can be created in a model environment, both physical and numerical. These objectives related to mud will generate a better understanding of natural dynamics in estuaries in general. To achieve the objective I complementary used numerical modelling, flume experiments and field data. I applied the depth-averaged numerical model Delft3D on the scale of a whole idealised estuary and on the scale of one intertidal bar in the Western Scheldt; Walsoorden. The numerical model includes sand and mud processes, morphodynamics and builds stratigraphy. As a second methodology, I used flume experiments in which we created complete and dynamic estuaries with sand and a mud simulant. The experiments were conducted in a novel periodically tilting flume, the Metronome, which prevents many scaling problems that occurred in previous estuary experiments. Field data and the small scale numerical model of Walsoorden indicated that thick mud layers dominantly occur at the surface and no layers of significant thickness were discovered in deeper stratigraphy. Deposition of mud mainly occurs at high intertidal elevations and therefore increases bar height, decreases flow over shoals and focusses flow. The large-scale numerical model showed that mud is predominantly stored in mudflats on the sides of estuaries, while the experiments showed dominantly deposits on bars. Both models showed relatively more deposits in the landward direction and higher mud supply concentrations lead to narrower and shorter estuaries due to filling and increased cohesion. Notably, in contrast to rivers, channels do not increase in depth when they get narrower. It was hypothesised that mudflats in estuaries have a similar effect as river floodplain formation: creating narrower and deeper channels. However, due to the changes in bar elevation, filling and reduction of flow over the shoals by mudflat formation, the tidal prism decreases in the estuary. Due to the decrease in the water volume entering the estuary during ebb, the channels do not increase in depth. The depth does not adapt to the flow, but the tidal prism adapts to the morphology. Increased mud deposition also decreases channel-bar migration in estuaries, due to increased cohesion, a lower chance for cross-cutting channels on higher shoals, but also lower flow velocities due to an overall smaller tidal prism.

    In this paper we describe and show the results of the two systems that we have specifically developed to participate at Ironita 2018 for the irony detection task. We scored as the third team in the official ranking of the competition, thanks to the X2C-B system, at a distance of just 0.027 of F1 score from the best system. In questo report descriviamo i due sistemi che abbiamo sviluppato ad hoc per partecipare ad Ironita 2018, nello specifico al task di irony detection. Il nostro team risultato essere il terzo classificato nella classifica ufficiale della competizione, grazie al nostro sistema X2C-B, che ha ottenuto un F1 score solo 0.027 inferiore rispetto al primo classificato.

    Palestinian rabbis of the first four centuries lived in an environment in which Roman law was practiced and Roman law schools existed. They would have been aware of Roman legal practices through hearsay, observation, and everyday life experiences. Palestinian rabbinic texts from the Mishnah to the Talmud Yerushalmi show striking similarities between rabbinic halakhah and Roman law in many legal areas. On the basis of theoretical considerations and case studies from shipping law, slavery law, and family law this paper investigates whether and to what extent rabbis can be expected to have known Roman law. In which areas of law are similarities most likely and how can the relationship between rabbinic and Roman law be explained?

    Розглянуто особливості концертно-фортепіанного стилю А. Караманова — видатного українського композитора, творчість котрого лише останнім часом стає предметом музикознавчого дискурсу. Окреслюється «крива» мовностильової еволюції, етапи якої позначені трьома масштабними концертами композитора, останній з яких, з підзаголовком «Ave Maria», уже здобув світову популярність і увійшов до репертуару видатних виконавців як в Україні, так і за її межами. На основі повного аналізу жанрово-стилістичного комплексу феномену «фортепіанний концерт» запропоновано дефініцію поняття «концертно-фортепіанний стиль», що екстраполюється на авторський стиль А. Караманова в цьому жанрі. Означено та узагальнено характерні ознаки трьох фортепіанних концертів композитора — своєрідного циклу-триптиха, у якому через діяльність А. Караманова як композитора-піаніста втілено константні та індивідуально-новаторські ознаки жанру, що набув значення симфонізованої концептуальної моделі не лише у його творчості, а й у діяльності багатьох композиторів України та зарубіжжя кінця ХХ–ХХI ст.

    This essay will elaborate upon the ambivalences of unreliable communication on social networks, using the case study of social bots. Social bots simulate human users in social networks. If they do not give any indication that they are machines, they can be classified as fake accounts. Social bots can be considered opinion robots as they are used strategically to influence discussions on social networks. What users see on their screens today when they consume news portals, social networks and online platforms corresponds to precarious in_visibility. Bots are the expression of a new kind of visibility politics as they flood the online communication spaces with their highly visible content, interests, and preferences, simulating public opinions and popular trends, while making their technical origin and identity invisible.What is the significance of social bots in the development of digital society when the boundaries between the human and the technical dissolve? A computer-based intelligence and media literacy is required that is not only able to eliminate bots, but also develops the reflective ability to consider machine-based communication and artificial intelligence as a factor of the digital society.

    A better understanding is required about the relation between morphodynamics and mud in estuaries. Currently, only limited studies account for mud in morphodynamic models, which is due to model limitations and a lack of spatially and temporally dense data of mud in the bed. Therefore, the effect of mud on the long-term evolution of estuaries is uncertain. The aim of my PhD project is to; (1) get a better understanding about the spatial patterns and processes of mud deposition; (2) determine the influence of mud on estuary morphology, and (3) understand the relation between mud deposition and preservation in the geological record. I will address these aims on the spatial scale of whole estuarine systems to individual bars and temporal scales of decades to millennia. As a secondary objective, I want to understand how these processes can be created in a model environment, both physical and numerical. These objectives related to mud will generate a better understanding of natural dynamics in estuaries in general. To achieve the objective I complementary used numerical modelling, flume experiments and field data. I applied the depth-averaged numerical model Delft3D on the scale of a whole idealised estuary and on the scale of one intertidal bar in the Western Scheldt; Walsoorden. The numerical model includes sand and mud processes, morphodynamics and builds stratigraphy. As a second methodology, I used flume experiments in which we created complete and dynamic estuaries with sand and a mud simulant. The experiments were conducted in a novel periodically tilting flume, the Metronome, which prevents many scaling problems that occurred in previous estuary experiments. Field data and the small scale numerical model of Walsoorden indicated that thick mud layers dominantly occur at the surface and no layers of significant thickness were discovered in deeper stratigraphy. Deposition of mud mainly occurs at high intertidal elevations and therefore increases bar height, decreases flow over shoals and focusses flow. The large-scale numerical model showed that mud is predominantly stored in mudflats on the sides of estuaries, while the experiments showed dominantly deposits on bars. Both models showed relatively more deposits in the landward direction and higher mud supply concentrations lead to narrower and shorter estuaries due to filling and increased cohesion. Notably, in contrast to rivers, channels do not increase in depth when they get narrower. It was hypothesised that mudflats in estuaries have a similar effect as river floodplain formation: creating narrower and deeper channels. However, due to the changes in bar elevation, filling and reduction of flow over the shoals by mudflat formation, the tidal prism decreases in the estuary. Due to the decrease in the water volume entering the estuary during ebb, the channels do not increase in depth. The depth does not adapt to the flow, but the tidal prism adapts to the morphology. Increased mud deposition also decreases channel-bar migration in estuaries, due to increased cohesion, a lower chance for cross-cutting channels on higher shoals, but also lower flow velocities due to an overall smaller tidal prism.

    In this paper we describe and show the results of the two systems that we have specifically developed to participate at Ironita 2018 for the irony detection task. We scored as the third team in the official ranking of the competition, thanks to the X2C-B system, at a distance of just 0.027 of F1 score from the best system. In questo report descriviamo i due sistemi che abbiamo sviluppato ad hoc per partecipare ad Ironita 2018, nello specifico al task di irony detection. Il nostro team risultato essere il terzo classificato nella classifica ufficiale della competizione, grazie al nostro sistema X2C-B, che ha ottenuto un F1 score solo 0.027 inferiore rispetto al primo classificato.

    Palestinian rabbis of the first four centuries lived in an environment in which Roman law was practiced and Roman law schools existed. They would have been aware of Roman legal practices through hearsay, observation, and everyday life experiences. Palestinian rabbinic texts from the Mishnah to the Talmud Yerushalmi show striking similarities between rabbinic halakhah and Roman law in many legal areas. On the basis of theoretical considerations and case studies from shipping law, slavery law, and family law this paper investigates whether and to what extent rabbis can be expected to have known Roman law. In which areas of law are similarities most likely and how can the relationship between rabbinic and Roman law be explained?
