A constante mutação característica da sociedade do séc. XXI exige um modelo de educação centrado no desenvolvimento de competências. A proficiente comunicação oral e escrita faz parte dessas competências essenciais e deve ser promovida através do ensino ‘de’ e ‘em’ Português. Neste contexto, cabe igualmente a reflexão sobre as representações da língua portuguesa (LP) que advêm da forma como esta é ensinada/aprendida. Daí que uma equipa de um laboratório de investigação esteja a promover estudos exploratórios sobre esta problemática, visando traçar um perfil dos estudantes (em formação inicial e pós-graduada) e, a partir desse conhecimento, encontrar estratégias para alterar as suas representações sobre a LP, o que se irá refletir nas representações dos seus futuros alunos. Adotou-se uma metodologia de índole qualitativa associada ao estudo de caso, recorrendo-se ao inquérito por questionário para a recolha de dados, que foram objeto de análise de conteúdo. Este artigo refere-se a um estudo exploratório tendo por informantes futuros profissionais da Educação a frequentar o 1.º ano de uma licenciatura em Educação Básica, que revelaram representações sobre a LP demasiado presas à sua origem geográfica e lacunas quanto à sua variação pouco compatíveis com a inserção numa sociedade multicultural e plurilingue do séc. XXI. 

The development of new technologies and the information society has accelerated changes in everyday life and modern teaching. Information and communication technologies (ICT) better motivate students to learn. In order to better preserve historical sources, they are digitized and thus protected, hence researchers can access the source faster and at a less cost. The possibilities of using the Internet in teaching are vast. It is necessary for schools to have computers, as well as for teachers and students to be motivated to use new electronic sources. Many websites have original historical material, from written and printed sources to audio-visual ones. We can call all this material digital resources (materials, sources, electronic historical sources). Teachers need to create engaging and imaginative teaching materials. However, a critical approach and caution in working with materials from the internet is essential. It is the teacher's responsibility to recommend verified sites and documents. Much of the material on the Internet has been posted with the conscious intention of spreading inaccurate data. The possibilities of ICT are great in history studies, as well. It is possible to modernize teaching at all levels of studies, but the financial capabilities of schools do not allow the possibility of keeping up with those innovations. One of the web portals that can be used for teaching purposes with its digitized content is Europeana. It is a database of the cultural and historical heritage of Europe, through which it is possible to search the digitized material of institutions. The Europeana portal is a broad project that provides free access to tens of millions of digital units. One of the most important collections within this portal is dedicated to the First World War and is called Europeana 1914-1918.

Eduquer au développement durable ou enseigner le développement durable en Histoire-géographie : enjeux sociopolitiques et discipline scolaire en France. Résumé Le développement durable est depuis 2004 en France l'objet d'une « éducation à » transdisciplinaire ; il est aussi un thème présent dans des programmes disciplinaires en particulier en géographie. Ces prescriptions sont inégalement convergentes. La dimension éducative et les enjeux politiques se heurtent aux structures des disciplines constituées, comme le montre l'histoire-géographie. Une recherche empirique a permis de constater que les formes de travail oscillent entre pratique disciplinaire classique et essais de trans/pluridisciplinarité, entre incitation à la réflexion et transmission de savoirs factuels et impartiaux, entre complexité et simplification, entre neutralisation et implication. La dimension éducative et surtout la question du politique divisent fortement les enseignants. In France, teaching sustainable development is prescribed both as a transdisciplinary «educating for sustainable development» approach and as a topic of many school subjects, especially geography. These presciptions are not quite consistent. The educative aims and the political issues confronts the traditional structures of the subjects, as shows the case of history-geography. An empirical research has stated that the type of work proposed to students goes from classical disciplinary practice to attempts at trans/pluridisciplinarity, form incitation to reflexion to passing on factual and impartial knowledge, from complexity to simplification, from neutralisation to involvment. Automated Essay Scoring has gained a wider applicability and usage with the integration of advanced Natural Language Processing techniques which enabled in-depth analyses of discourse in order capture the specificities of written texts. In this paper, we introduce a novel Automatic Essay Scoring method for Dutch language, built within the Readerbench framework, which encompasses a wide range of textual complexity indices, as well as an automated segmentation approach. Our method was evaluated on a corpus of 173 technical reports automatically split into sections and subsections, thus forming a hierarchical structure on which textual complexity indices were subsequently applied. The stepwise regression model explained 30.5% of the variance in students’ scores, while a Discriminant Function Analysis predicted with substantial accuracy (75.1%) whether they are high or low performance students.

This paper presents Apex, a system that can automatically assess a student essay based on its content. It relies on Latent Semantic Analysis, a tool which is used to represent the meaning of words as vectors in a high-dimensional space. By comparing an essay and the text of a given course on a semantic basis, our system can measure how well the essay matches the text. Various assessments are presented to the student regarding the topic, the outline and the coherence of the essay. Our experiments yield promising results.

Light and Optics are subjects that naturally attracts the interest and sympathy of children even from very early ages. In this communication, we present a serie of experiments and support material designed in this hands-on perspective, to be used to introduce the study of light and optics to kindergarten and early basic school students. Our hands-on investigative approach leads the students, aged 4 to 10 years, to observe the experiment and discover themselves, in a critical and active way, different aspects of light and optics. Preparing funny eye catching situations and experiments predispose the children to work, effectively, enjoying themselves while building up their self-confidence.

We present a test corpus of audio recordings and transcriptions of presentations of students' enterprises together with their slides and web-pages. The corpus is intended for evaluation of automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems, especially in conditions where the prior availability of in-domain vocabulary and named entities is benefitable. The corpus consists of 39 presentations in English, each up to 90 seconds long. The speakers are high school students from European countries with English as their second language. We benchmark three baseline ASR systems on the corpus and show their imperfection. SLSP 2019
