Automatic news categorization is essential to automatically handle the classification of multi-label news articles in online portal. This research employs some potential methods to improve performance of hierarchical multi-label classifier for Indonesian news article. First potential method is using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to build the top level classifier. The second method could improve the classification performance by calculating the average of the word vectors obtained from distributed semantic model. The third method combines lexical and semantic method to extract documents features, which multiplied word term frequency (lexical) with word vector average (semantic). Model build using Calibrated Label Ranking as multi-label classification method, and trained using Naïve Bayes algorithm has the best F1-measure of 0.7531. Multiplication of word term frequency and the average of word vectors were also used to build this classifiers. This configuration improved multi-label classification performance by 4.25%, compared to the baseline. The distributed semantic model that gave best performance in this experiment obtained from 300-dimension word2vec of Wikipedia’s articles. The multi-label classification model performance is also influenced by news’ released date. The difference period between training and testing data would also decrease models’ performance.

There have been many researches on online language learning, especially online writing. Yet, research describing a reflection after experimenting with online writing to students is still under-investigated. To fill this gap, this paper aimed to inform the reflection of the researchers for the last three years conducting online writing exchange. The reflections came from the researchers’ view and students' views regarding the writing exchange program. The research design was narrative inquiry. The data were garnered from the researchers’ experiences and students’ interviews. The results of reflection revealed Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT). The strengths are flip classroom, flexibility for the teacher, motivation to write, writing practice, and interaction. The weaknesses are able to write a post after the deadline, unaltered topics in stage, unavailable notification of reply, a difficult operationalized website, and a short deadline. The opportunities are adding other countries from other continents, extending the collaboration into a full semester, and adding online chat on the website. The threats are less active participation from students and less active buddy.

Empirical design of support system at the Tunnel 6 of the Jakarta – Bandung high-speed railway was based on the Basic Quality (BQ) system, which had not been adopted in Indonesia. This research was carried out to better understand the rock mass quality at the tunnel construction site by comparing rock mass quality determined by the BQ system to that determined by two more popular rock mass classifications, namely the Geological Strength Index (GSI) and Rock Mass Rating (RMR). Surface and subsurface engineering geological mapping were carried out and tunnel excavation method and support system were proposed. The engineering geological model of the BQ, GSI, and RMR systems showed that the sedimentary rock masses of the Miocene Jatiluhur Formation generally had poor to very poor quality, while those of the Quaternary Volcanic Formation had very poor to good quality. Based on the RMR, the stand-up time values of the sedimentary rock masses were predicted to be relatively low as compared with those of the Quaternary Volcanic Formation, implying requirement of a relatively quick support system installation after excavation. In general, a combination of systematic bolt, shotcrete and steel ribs is the recommended support system for this tunnel.

This article examines the creation myth in Serat Purwakandha Brantakusuman (SPB), how its characteristics are compared to myths in Indonesia and existing mythical theories, and explains philosophical themes that can be examined from these myths in order to give its theoretical contributions in existing mythical theories. It is a literature study by reviewing books texts, research reports, journals, and other sources. The analysis is done by interpretation, coherence-holistic, description, and analysis-synthesis. The theoretical framework used is the myth theory C A. Van Peursen and Clifford Geertz. The results of the study indicate that the myth of the creation of plants in SPB is based on the story of the death of Dewi Tisnawati who was banished to earth. The study of myths about the origin of plants is new because research examining myths related to agriculture and Dewi Sri, the influence of myths in life and human activities, forms of rituals and socio-cultural activities, and the relationship between myths and art, are more related to origin place. The myths in SPB and myths in Indonesia contribute to supporting myth concepts that have been described by great thinkers. The creation myth and other myths in the SPB can be subject to study from the perspective of the branches of philosophy and its conceptual substances can also be criticized philosophically

This study discusses the reception of active readers of the story of Barbe Bleue by Charles Perrault, a writer from the seventeenth century. The active readers in question are Amelie Nothomb and Tahar ben Jelloun, two frankophone authors who responded to the story of the Middle Ages by creating the Barbe Bleue text in their respective versions. This study focuses on the comparison of narrative elements between the texts such as plot, characterization and setting. Diachronic-intertextual reception theory with qualitative descriptive method was used for this study. It can be concluded that as active readers of the XXI century, Amelie Nothomb and Tahar ben Jelloun perceive the story of Barbe Bleue by creating new works but not eliminating the main sequences of the original story. Changes occur in genres, from fairy tales to novels and short stories, the weight of balanced characterization between male and female characters, and the setting of time-place-social-cultural settings. This cannot be separated from the changing times, the spirit of the times, and changes in the horizon of readers’ expectations. Keywords : reception of literary, actif reader, diachronic-intertextual, Barbe Bleue

The Chinese Basic Quality (BQ) system was used to determine the rock mass classes and design tunnel support system of the Tunnel No.8 of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway. As the BQ system is newly applied for tunnelling project in Indonesia and remains poorly understood, this research aims to determine rock mass classes at the tunnel construction site and propose the tunnel excavation method and support system alternative based on more widely used rock mass classifications of the Geological Strength Index (GSI) and Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) standard. Surface engineering geological mapping and evaluation of drill core samples were carried out to obtain accurate interpretation of subsurface engineering geological conditions, particularly the rock mass classes at the tunnel elevation. The results show that the tunnel construction area consists of very poor to fair classes of andesite breccia, tuff lapilli, and tuffaceous sandstone. The full-face method with auxiliary bench cut and multiple-bench cut method are to be applied at the tunnel sections consisting of rock mass classes CI and DII, respectively. The proposed tunnel support system is a combination of shotcrete, rock bolt, steel rib, and invert.

EXPLORING FEMALE GHOSTS IN INTAN PARAMADITHA’S SIHIR PEREMPUAN : A STUDY ON FEMININITY CONSTRUCTION Abstract: Ghost stories as myth have been around for hundreds of years, both in oral or written forms. Literature has provided a space for urban legend. The most popular and legendary ghosts are usually female ghosts. These female ghosts appear not only to represent ghosts but they also carry certain feminine values from the authors. This study aims to investigate female ghosts on Sihir Perempuan , a collection of short stories written by Intan Paramaditha using feminist construction approach. Cixous’ (2008) theory of feminist writing and an approach to shift to the center are used as the study’s conceptual framework. The findings of this study include a paradox in the way Intan Paramaditha reconstructs femininity. In the effort of building femininity, female ghosts are portrayed as legends within patriarchal cultural power. The presence of female ghosts explores female bodies and psychology. Keywords : female ghost, femininity, ghost story, myth, patriarchy EKSPLORASI HANTU PEREMPUAN DALAM SIHIR PEREMPUAN KARYA INTAN PARAMADITHA: TELAAH KONSTRUKSI FEMININITAS Abstrak: Cerita hantu sebagai sebuah mitos telah dikonsumsi publik sejak ratusan tahun yang lalu, baik secara lisan maupun tulisan. In order to meet up the needs of acquiring the 21st century skills, students need to be equipped with critical thinking skills. In English language learning, one way to foster students’ critical thinking is through Higher Order Thinking (HOT) questions in reading. This study unveils the implementation of HOT questions in Grade 5 reading classes in a private primary school in Surabaya. The study in particular was aimed to find out (1) the structure of the teacher’s questions, (2) the types of the teacher’s questions, and (3) the students’ responses. This study used the New Bloom’s taxonomy as the underlying instrument for classifying the types of questions and the students’ responses. Four class observations, four teacher’s interviews and two students’ focus group discussions were conducted in this study. The recorded data were transcribed and analyzed to get the results. The results of the data analysis indicate that 65.15% of the total of 66 questions used by the teacher in the classroom were HOT questions. Among all types of HOT questions, the New Bloom’s analyze questions were used the most with 37.88% of the total questions. HOT questions were mostly addressed during the whilst-instructional activities. Interestingly, the HOT questions were answered in different forms: oral answers, dramatizations and presentations. Related to this finding, the teacher was quite satisfied with the students’ responses since they reached the same thinking level, although sometimes it is necessary for the teacher to simplify his questions in order to get students’ responses.

This study aims to deconstruct the meaning of love in the novel Cinta Terakhir by Vincentius J. Boekan. The novel Cinta Terakhir by Vincentius J. Boekan tells the romance of two human beings, Armando and Rosalia whose meaning is different from love in general. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results showed that (1) the main character of Armando was a betrayer of love who appeared when Indonesian political conditions were influenced by international politics, then Armando's characters betrayed their love by choosing the NKRI ideology as a fixed price, (2) the nature of patriotism was so inherent in the character's characteristics Armando is very strong towards the ideology of the Republic of Indonesia so Armando prefers to flee with hundreds of thousands of East Timorese people to the West Timor of the Republic of Indonesia and leaves his beloved wife and only daughter in Timor Leste, but Catholic marriage remains husband and wife until death separates.
