In the latest years some new and important advances in fields of self-protection facing infections had been produced. In the teaching side, those who teach theory related to self-protection in health and hygiene personnel within the different Health and Science Courses in the Bellvitge Campus (CB) in the University of Barcelona (UB), an important lack of knowledge and confusion was detected in subjects related to patient and professional security. Aims: To enhance education and knowledge in Health Sciences of CB in the BU regarding basic hygienic means. Material & Method: A study of field was advised: causes and comparatively. A group of teachers implied in the subjects gathered together in order to determine and deepen in the syllabuses to establish common criteria to fulfil a real analysis of present the situation. Semi-structured interviews to two students within the different courses were done, registered and transcribed literally for a further analysis (Atlas/Ti19). Results and Discussions: From the discourse four categories were established: 1) Learning: Students underline lack of agreement among teachers and an extreme theoretical teaching. 2) Work experience: Students underline opposition in theory and practice. 3) Personal considerations: Students link measures with exceptional situations (extremely invasive techniques). The speech of do not hurt the patient is always present. 4) Peculiarities inherent to each different university courses: Students perceptions are completely different according to their very different education programmes. Conclusions: Preventing and hygienic measures matters within the different university programmes are considered in the study programmes punctually but not continuously. Students perceive them as a necessary education due to their lack of experience but no more than acquiring certain skilfulness. Regarding Health Centres and Hospitals there is not a mutual agreement in whether professionals should take into consideration as compulsory those preventing and hygienic measures in daily practice, and even theory and practice criteria deeply differ in such instances.

We present the first results of an on-going research project on a decorative stone that might have been one of the main ornamental stones in Roman Spain’s inland, the limestone and conglomerate from Espejón. Within the framework of exploitation and uses of other Hispano-Roman stone resources, these results will add significant data to the whole picture of non-foreign marmora exploitation and use in Hispania. So far, the archaeological materials of several sites have been inspected, a survey to locate quarrying evidence has been undertaken and a multimethod analytical protocol has been initiated. Thus, we have established the basis for an archaeometric reference corpus, which will be henceforth enlarged and used as tool for comparison with archaeological items in order to determine the extent of this limestone and multi-coloured conglomerate’s distribution and use.

E.; Waight, Pauline A.;We studied the possible association between patient age and sex, clinical presentation, Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype, antimicrobial resistance, and death in invasive pneumococcal disease cases reported by 17 European countries during 2010. The study sample comprised 2,921 patients, of whom 56.8% were men and 38.2% were >65 years of age. Meningitis occurred in 18.5% of cases. Death was reported in 264 (9.0%) cases. Older age, meningitis, and nonsusceptibility to penicillin were significantly associated with death. Non–pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) serotypes among children 65 years of age, risk did not differ by serotype. These findings highlight differences in case-fatality rates between serotypes and age; thus, continued epidemiologic surveillance across all ages is crucial to monitor the long-term effects of PCVs. Risk varies by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype.

The Tarragona Cathedral Director Plan is an ambitious scheme for conservation and restoration work to be carried out on this city landmark. Works include the historical and archaeological study of the property, all the more interesting for the cathedral’s position on one of the terraces of the imperial complex of the Consilium Prouinciae Hispaniae Citerioris, where in late antiquity the Visigoth episcopacy was established. This area was recovered during the restoration of the archiepiscopal see in the 12th century, and is the origin of the present ecclesiastical see. This article is a first approach to the architectural evolution of an area of the Cathedral of Tarragona, the north of the cloister, which it has been possible to study with the help of economic investment derived from the agreement between the chapter of Tarragona Cathedral, the city council, the county council, the regional council of Tarragona and the Catalan autonomous government.

This article presents the key results of a major survey carried out by the NEARCH project on the public perception of archaeology and heritage across Europe. The analysis focuses on three main points of significance for contemporary archaeological practice. The first is the image of archaeology and its definition in the perception of the general public. The second concerns the values that archaeology represents for the public. The third focuses on the social expectations placed on archaeologists and archaeology. The NEARCH survey clearly indicates that there is a significant public expectation by Europeans that archaeology should work comprehensively across a broad range of areas, and that cultural heritage management in general needs to engage more with different archaeological and heritage groups.
