Vilnius: Vilniaus universiteto Filologijos fakultetas, Akademinė leidyba, 2017, 300 pp. ISBN 978-9955-33-715-7 Lithuanian ethnolinguistics is a relatively young discipline. In 2017, it was enriched by a valuable monograph written by three researchers from Vilnius University: Kristina Rutkovska, Marius Smetona and Irena Smetonienė, participants in the international project EUROJOS, who have made a significant contribution to the Leksykon aksjologiczny Slowian i ich sąsiadow (Axiological lexicon of the Slavs and their neighbours). Their study entitled Vertybės lietuvio pasaulėvaizdyje (Values in the linguistic worldview of Lithuanians), with a foreword by Jerzy Bartminski, offers a full semantic description of six key names of values (concepts): HOME, FAMILY, WORK, EUROPE, FREEDOM and HONOUR. It also analyses two concepts stemming from the most archaic sources of human culture: FIRE and WATER. Firstly, the position of the interpreter was examinated in the context of the methodological map of medieval, Renaisssance and Baroque studies in Poland. Secondly, it is about the chronological location of the interpreter, generally beyond the horizon of medieval and early modern authors’ expectations toward future readers, that was limited by the eschatological perspective (near the end of the world). The issues of empathic references and affective reactions have also been raised, which are considered here as a stimulating experience of “recognizing continuity” between the ancient and present epochs. At last, the article presents the justification for the interpretative practice that could be called “the poetology of insight” – in reference to the remarks by Roland Barthes and Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht.

Introduction to the topic and remarks regarding language The author presents in brief the most significant facts from the history of Germans in Russia (from the Manifesto of Catherine II through the formation of the Volga German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic), outlining on this background the activities of the German language press in the Russia and in the early Soviet Union, with a primary focus on the so-called new ethnicities policy and its consequences for the German minority. In the 1920s and 1930s in the VG ASSR, publication of books, textbooks, brochures, documents and reports in German began on a massive scale, especially press and propaganda materials. The new ethnicities policy of the Soviet authorities naturally boiled down to the rapid and proper indoctrination of ethnic minorities, "educating" them in the spirit of communist ideology. For the Bolshevik party newspapers were instruments of comprehensive propaganda and agitation. Until the mid-1920s, over 70 periodicals were published in German in the entire USSR. In the Volga German Republic, 21 newspapers were published in German, including the specialized Wolgadeutsches Schulblatt , Sei Bereit , Rote Jugend , but mainly press for the canton, the kolkhoz or sovkhoz level, and even papers for machinists ( Tempo. Bolschewistisches Alltagl. Bulletin , Lenins Weg ). Frequently the periodicals were published in Russian alongside a German-language version, e.g. Трудовая правда and Arbeiterwahrheit , as well as publications in Russian only, including Вперед к победе . The journalists' qualifications were very low. Periodicals frequently contained reports by "rabkors" (worker correspondents) and "selkors" (village correspondents), people for whom only very recently had been quite far removed from pouring out their thoughts on paper. The pages of the papers reflected the degradation of the German language used in the USSR, its mixing with Russianisms, especially Sovietisms, including peculiar acronyms (e.g. Ambar , Arbuse , Batrake , Otlitschnik , Partorg , Smytschka , Rote Tafel , Schwarze Tafel , KK der AP ( B ) SU , KVA der ASSR der WD , MTS ). Prasa radziecka wydawana w latach 30. XX w. w Republice Niemcow Powolza. W latach 20. i 30. XX w. w ASRR NP zaczeto masowo drukowac po niemiecku ksiązki, podreczniki, broszury, dokumenty, sprawozdania, zwlaszcza zaś materialy propagandowe i prase. Nowa polityka narodowościowa wladz radzieckich sprowadzala sie oczywiście do szybkiego i sprawnego indoktrynowania mniejszości narodowych, „wychowywania” ich w duchu ideologii komunistycznej. Dla partii bolszewickiej gazety byly zbiorowym propagandystą i agitatorem. Do polowy lat 20. XX w. drukowano w calym ZSRR ponad 70 periodykow niemieckojezycznych. W Republice Niemcow Powolza wydawano 21 gazet w jezyku niemieckim, m.in. specjalistyczne „Wolgadeutsches Schulblatt”, „Sei bereit”, „Rote Jugend”, glownie jednak prase kantonową, kolchozową, sowchozową, a nawet gazety ośrodkow maszynowych („Lenins Weg”, „Tempo. Bolschewistisches Alltagl. Bulletin”). Czesto wydawano gazety w jezyku rosyjskim i ich wersje niemieckojezyczne, np. „Трудовая правда” i „Arbeiterwahrheit”. Wychodzila tez prasa w jezyku rosyjskim, m.in. „Вперед к победе”. Kwalifikacje dziennikarzy byly niskie. Gazety nagminnie zamieszczaly relacje tzw. „rabkorow” (korespondentow robotniczych) i „sielkorow” (korespondentow wiejskich), ludzi do niedawna bardzo dalekich od przelewania myśli na papier. Na lamach prasy odzwierciedlila sie degradacja jezyka niemieckiego w ZSRR, jego zaśmiecenie rusycyzmami, zwlaszcza sowietyzmami, w tym osobliwymi skrotowcami (np. Ambar , Arbuse , Batrake , Otlitschnik , Partorg , Smytschka , Rote Tafel , Schwarze Tafel , KK der AP ( B ) SU , KVA der ASSR der WD , MTS ).

Denis Villeneuve), which encompasses a digitally-processed orchestral score with originally texturized sound effects. I elaborate on the features of the sound design in Sicario in regard to production and composition. Moreover, I attempt to demonstrate the ways in which sound in Sicario, due to its characteristics, is outside any typical musical genre. Finally, the article focuses on sound effects which are used in an unusual way, for instance, so as to reflect characters’ personalities. The analysis of Sicario demonstrates that a creatively and meticulously constructed sound design in film has the power to exceed its traditional, supporting role in the narrative.

We show that main verbs in questions carry little influence on the decisions made by the system - in over 90% of researched cases swapping verbs for their antonyms did not change system decision. We track this phenomenon down to the insides of the net, analyzing the mechanism of self-attention and values contained in hidden layers of RNN. Finally, we recognize the characteristics of the SQuAD dataset as the source of the problem. Our work refers to the recently popular topic of adversarial examples in NLP, combined with investigating deep net structure. It consists of two main parts. The first presents and comments on the results of the teacher’s questions analysis, the second ‒ questions asked by students. The concept of Bogusław Skowronek was used, who distinguished four types of questions in his classification: 1) reassuring-instrumental; 2) substantive; 3) about the meta-didactic function; 4) not related to the classroom situation. The first two categories were specified in more detail by Elizabeth Perrott’s proposition, which distinguishes between guiding questions and questions for clarification among reassuring-instrumental questions, while she divides substantive questions according to the type of thought process launched during the answer and indicates lower-order and higher-order questions. The text ends with a summary containing not very optimistic conclusions.

The soundscape is the acoustic environment tested primarily by qualitative research. Warsaw residents were asked in a survey about their sound impressions and requirements for the Warsaw soundscape. The aim of this research was to learn both the conditions of acoustic environment and the needs of space users in accordance with the space category. The present and expected sound structures of five different categories of space were examined (residential areas, streets, city centre, tourist areas and green areas). Information on both the specific Warsaw sounds and the ideas for new sounds (which could be introduced into the city) was collected.

The logical-linguistic model uses semantic and grammatical features of words to obtain a sequence of semantically related to each other text fragments from different actors of a social network. In order to implement the model, we leverage Universal Dependencies parser and Natural Language Toolkit with the lexical database WordNet. Based on the Blog Authorship Corpus, the experiment achieves over 0.92 precision.
