This is part 4 of the Rchon statistics course. It continues the basics of statistical testing in R. This is part 2 of the Rchon statistics course. The purpose of this tutorial is to extend the application of R from basic data analysis and visualisation to formal statistical testing. In this tutorial, we will treat the following statistical testing methods: t-test ANOVA Further testing methods (including chi square test, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis test) will be treated in part 3 and 4 of this course. Natural Language Processing (NLP) is an interdisciplinary field whose goal is to create machines that understand natural languages. The lesson features: (i) an introduction to the key concepts and techniques of NLP; (ii) hands-on activities on some NLP tasks, such as lemmatization, part-of-speech tagging and named entity recognition using CLARIN-ERIC tools. The use case covered by the hands-on activities is particularly suited for trainees in the field of Digital Humanities given that the text is taken from a corpus of historical travel writings.

Diese Präsentation ist im Rahmen des DHd 2018 Workshops "WIKIDATA: NUTZUNGSMÖGLICHKEITEN UND ANWENDUNGSBEISPIELE FÜR DEN BEREICH DIGITAL CULTURAL HERITAGE" entstanden. Im Rahmen dieser Einführung wird den Teilnehmer_innen der Semantic Web Technologie-Stack (Triple, RDF, etc.) vermittelt und Wikidata in bestehende andere Initiativen (z.B. DBpedia) eingeordnet. In einem praxisorientierten Tutorial wird eine Einführung in Wikidatas Abfragesprache SPARQL gegeben. Die Teilnehmer_innen sollten nach dem Workshop ein grundlegendes Verständnis zu den Möglichkeiten des Einsatzes von Wikidata in ihrer Forschungspraxis erlangt und erste Möglichkeiten zum selbstständigen Einsatz kennengelernt haben. Dies wird sichergestellt, indem anhand mehrerer Fallbeispiele aus dem Bereich der kunsthistorischen Bilddatenbanken – unter anderem der Historischen Glasdias-Sammlung des Instituts für Kunst- und Bildgeschichte der HU Berlin – praktische Ansätze zur Nutzung von Wikidata in der geisteswissenschaftlichen Forschung aufgezeigt werden. Dabei werden Probleme diskutiert und exemplarische Lösungen durchgespielt werden. Hierzu gehören Fragen, wie vorhandene Datensätze zu Kulturgütern (automatisiert) aufgefunden, wie neue Entitäten möglichst effektiv ohne die Erzeugung von Dubletten angelegt und bestehende Aussagen abgefragt werden können. Zu den exemplarischen Lösungen gehören unter anderem ein Web-Service für die Ermittlung von Wikidata-IDs unter Verwendung der Google-Bildersuche und ein Skript zur Extraktion von Daten unter Nutzung der GND-Nummern. Nachfolgend werden die bisher geplanten Beispielanwendungen kurz eingeführt.

Revised scripts for the course "GIS Einführung: Daten organisieren, analysieren und visualisieren". Held in the summer term 2020 at Kiel University (Germany). Überarbeitete Skripte zur Übung "GIS Einführung: Daten organisieren, analysieren und visualisieren". Gehalten im Sommersemester 2020 an der Chriatian-Albrechts Universität zu Kiel (DE).

The main objective of the Belspo-funded LIMAMAL project was to support archaeologists in creating 3D terrain visualizations based on Lidar data and Pléiades stereoscopic imagery, and a combination or “fusion” thereof. A case study was developed to demonstrate the application of Pléiades imagery and light detection and ranging (lidar) technologies for prospection and visualization of the Mesoamerican archaeological landscape. Based on this case study, guidelines in English and Spanish have been developed to explain the technical processing. The project involved a stakeholder: the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), a Mexican federal government institution responsible for research, conservation, protection and spreading of knowledge on Mexican cultural heritage. The case study and guidelines were presented to the stakeholder and other interested parties during several meetings held during a short mission to Yucatan, Mexico in the spring of 2022.
