This thesis is an attempt to investigate the new technology of three-dimensional scanners and their combined use with traditional methods, both through literature search, but also with the practical mapping application. In the context of this dissertation the cave of Ag. Georgiou, located in the area of Erimi in Limassol, imprinted using a Leica ScanStation C10 ground scanner, aiming the implementation of the terrestrial scanner lase as a tool for recording the pathology of the Cave St. George. The fact that terrestrial laser scanners can quickly and almost automatically represent three-dimensional data in a form easily recognizable by the user, makes it popular in mapping, especially in the fields of architecture and in particular cultural heritage, archaeology, etc. In contrast to the classic mapping methods, the new three-dimensional laser scanning technology offers a comprehensive mapping of the area. In this way it provides the possibility of selecting any section for the production of restoration and assessment plans. In addition, the choice of this method provides great convenience for field work but also speed, since the main part of the work is data processing. Completed

This research aims to create a new design proposal for Greek font, based on Byzantine writing. As well as the recording and study of the design trends prevailing in the ecclesiastical area of Cyprus. Initially, the inscriptions found in the frescoes of the churches were recorded, starting from the 11th to the 18th century, and comparing the results with the design trends of the 21st century. The collection of the above data will allow us to understand the basic of the paleography and it’s features of Byzantine writing, whether there were rules in the existing writing system and whether they have been maintained or diversified over time. In addition, conducting the results will help determine the design orientation that will be applied to the new font.

In addition, the task was to examine the extent to which Virtual Reality technology contributed to its inclusion in 21st century education. Twenty studentsfrom the third (C '), fourth (D'), fifth (E ') and sixth (F') grade, participated in the experimental evaluation. The participants were divided into two equal groups: the “Book Group” and the “Virtual Reality Group”. The “Book Group” was evaluated for the knowledge they gained through the narrative of Historical events having the pages of the book in front of them, while the “Virtual Reality Group” was evaluated based on the knowledge gained through the use of a dedicated Virtual Reality application. The data were collected using questionnaires and the results revealed that the participants of the “Virtual Reality Group”, in addition to the increased pleasure and interest shown during their interaction with the teaching material, their performance in learning of historical events was at a very high level compared to the performance of the “Book Group”. At the end of this research, proposals are presented to improve the implementation of the Virtual Reality teaching tool, as well as suggestions for future investigations. Completed

Completed
