Es basa en l'estudi de les principals manifestacions de les arts visuals i l'arquitectura del segle XX, així com de l'anomenat art tecnològic, en particular del vídeo art i de l'art dels nous mitjans, amb l'objectiud'assolir una visió panoràmica de l'art contemporani, amb algunes referències a l'art del nostre entorn més proper, particularment de l'art català contemporani. Es fa èmfasi en la interconnexió amb altres àrees de coneixement i no es redueix a l'estudi dels estils i les seves característiques sinó que s'aprofundeix en el coneixement del marc cultural i humanístic on s'inscriu la creació artística del món actual. Se basa en el estudio de las principales manifestaciones de las artes visuales y la arquitectura del siglo XX, y también del llamado arte tecnológico, en particular del vídeo arte y de los nuevos medios, con el objetivo de tener una visión panorámica del arte contemporáneo, con algunas referencias al arte de nuestro entorno más cercano, particularmente el arte español contemporáneo. Subject based on the study of the main manifestations of the visual arts and the architecture of the twentieth century, as well as the so-called art technology, including video art and new media with the aim of having an overview on contemporary art with some references to the art of our nearest environment, particularly the contemporary Spanish art.

Im Jahr 2021 lädt die Initiative "Forschungsdatenmanagement" alle Mitarbeitenden der BBAW zu einer Veranstaltungsreihe mit dem Titel "Forschungsdatenmanagement kompakt" ein. Die Präsentationsfolien der ersten Online-Veranstaltung am 11.02.2021 führen in die Grundlagen und Grundbegriffe des Forschungsdatenmanagements ein und stellen die Ziele der Initiative vor.

Durch die zunehmende Digitalisierung nimmt die Bedeutung von Forschungsdaten in den Geisteswissenschaften, insbesondere in den Digital Humanities, zu. Dabei rücken in den letzten Jahren verstärkt Open Science-Paradigmen, wie der möglichst offene Zugang zu den Daten und die FAIR Data Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reuseable) in den Fokus. Diese bedeuten einen Paradigmenwechsel für Wissenschaftler*innen und Wissenschafts- und Gedächtnisinstitutionen und erfordern die Kooperation im Rahmen nationaler und internationaler Infrastrukturen. Zur Förderung guter Datenmanagementpraktiken verlangen verschiedene nationale und internationale Förderorganisationen bei Projektanträgen Auskunft über den Umgang mit nachgenutzten oder erstellten Forschungsdaten, z. B. in der Form von Datenmanagementplänen (DMPs). Inzwischen setzt sich die Erkenntnis durch, dass es nicht mit einem einmaligen Datenmanagementplan getan ist, sondern dass DMPs während des Projektverlaufs angepasst werden müssen, um das Forschungsdatenmanagement aktiv und unter Einbeziehung aller relevanten Stakeholder zu unterstützen und seine Potenziale auszuschöpfen (aktives Forschungsdatenmanagement). Hierfür wird im Rahmen eines DFG-Projekts das Werkzeug Research Data Management Organizer (RDMO) entwickelt. Der Vortrag gibt eine Einführung in die wichtigsten Begrifflichkeiten und Konzepte des geisteswissenschaftlichen Forschungsdatenmanagements und seine Bedeutung für die Sicherung der guten wissenschaftlichen Praxis, die Qualitätssicherung der Forschungsdaten und die Erhöhung des Impacts der Resultate digitaler geisteswissenschaftlicher Forschung und führt diesbezüglich in Funktionalitäten und Anwendungsmöglichkeiten des Werkzeugs RDMO ein. In this lecture I describe and expand upon a painting by Thomas Baines that depicts Amaxhosa migrant labourers leaving the Cape Colony in 1848. It is my belief that what is depicted in this painting is representative of what happened in Southern Africa as a whole between 1650 and the present. I use the painting as a lens through which to look and think about the sub-continent's past and present. I do this by examining the painting in terms of what it tells us about the movement of people, goods and ideas in Southern Africa. In investigating the manner in which people have sought to acquire what they desire, often in the face of constraints - be they environmental, geographical or political - coupled with their ideas with regard to the manner in which the world functions, I seek to throw light on fundamental processes that determine Southern Africa's human history. What happened in the Eastern Cape was a precursor to events further afield. Focussing on the painting, the body of this lecture is divided into three parts that consider the movement and control of people, goods and ideas in Southern Africa's historical past. Bearing in mind the admonition not to be antiquarian in the pursuit of historical meaning, I seek to begin with the material objects of everyday life and then place them in a socio-cultural setting and study them through time. In keeping with this approach, I shy away from a belief in the number-crunching capacities of computers for although they may well throw up interesting anomalies with regard to the import of goods, they cannot tell us what the symbolic value and social or cultural context of these goods was, let alone the wide variety of meanings in terms of age, seniority, gender and race that people attached to such goods. The acquisition of material goods transformed the material cultures of the societies involved. Over time there has been a convergence of desires, consumption and the use of material objects within Southern Africa. These material objects only gain meaning when placed within the socio-cultural context in which they are used. In conclusion I argue that Southern Africa is a single whole, albeit with different accents. What ties Southern Africa together besides culturally informed deep structure is labour, economic institutions and the consumptive practises of its population. The economic institutions established in the past two centuries, be they mining companies, labour recruiting agencies, retail chains or trade and border agreements bind Southern Africa together. With slight regional variations and dependent on their class position, Southern Africans work for money, for the same employers, eat the same foods and aspire to the same material goods. In these terms, there is more that binds Southern Africans together than divides them.
