description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Book 2020 EnglishPublisher:Oxbow Books Funded by:EC | MENTICAEC| MENTICAAuthors: Matthews, Roger; Matthews, Wendy; Rasheed Raheem, Kamal; Richardson, Amy;Matthews, Roger; Matthews, Wendy; Rasheed Raheem, Kamal; Richardson, Amy;The Eastern Fertile Crescent region of western Iran and eastern Iraq hosted major developments in the transition from hunting and gathering to more sedentary agricultural lifestyles through the Early Neolithic period, 10,000-7000 BC. Within the scope of the Central Zagros Archaeological Project, excavations have been conducted at two Early Neolithic sites in the Kurdistan region of Iraq: Bestansur and Shimshara, as well as survey in the region of the Epipalaeolithic site of Zarzi since 2012. Bestansur represents an early stage in the transition to sedentary, agricultural life, where the inhabitants pursued a biodiverse strategy of hunting, gathering, herding and cultivating, maximising the new opportunities afforded by the warmer climate of the Early Holocene. They also constructed a substantial settlement of mudbrick, including a major building with a minimum of 78 human individuals buried under its floor in association with hundreds of beads. These buildings and human remains provide new insights into social relations, mortuary practices, demography, diet, health and disease during the early stages of sedentarisation. The material culture of Bestansur and Shimshara is rich in imported items such as obsidian, carnelian and sea-shells, indicating the extent to which Early Neolithic communities were networked across the Eastern Fertile Crescent and beyond along routes that later became the Silk Roads. This volume includes final reports by a large-scale interdisciplinary team on a wealth of new data from excavations at Bestansur and Shimshara, through application of state-of-the-art scientific techniques, integrated ecological and social approaches and sustainability studies. The net result is to re-emphasise the enormous significance of the Eastern Fertile Crescent in one of the most important episodes in human history: the Neolithic transition.

The intended audience for this report in the first instance are digital humanities researchers and service providers in the humanities domain. By providing basic relevant information on the RDA for this target group it is foreseen that they can benefit from the output of the RDA and increase their involvement in RDA activities. This report has the intention to be of interest for stakeholders in the RDA as well, since it describes aspects of the research data infrastructure of the humanities and this could inspire them to engage with the humanities research community. The compilation of this report is part of the RDA Europe 4.0 project in which DANS (Data Archiving and Networked Services), the Dutch national RDA node, acts as an ambassador of the RDA for the humanities.

Its main purpose is the specification of the SSH Open Marketplace (SSHOC MP) in terms of service requirements, data model, and system architecture and design. The Social Sciences & Humanities communities are in an urgent need for a place to gather and exchange information about their tools, services, and datasets. Although plenty of project websites, service registries, and data repositories exist, the lack of a central place integrating these assets and offering domain-relevant means to enrich them and communicate is evident. This place is the SSHOC Marketplace. The approach towards the system specification is based on an extensive requirements engineering process. First and foremost, user requirements have been gathered through questionnaires. The results have been then prioritised based on the user feedback and the experience of the SSHOC project partners. Based on the requirements and thorough state-of-the-art analysis, a data model and the system design have been developed. In order to do so, and by taking into account as much previous work from other European projects as possible, the integration with the EOSC infrastructure has been a primary concern at every step taken. The system specification is now the starting point for the development of the SSHOC MP and also a communication instrument within the project and externally. Over the course of the agile development of the Marketplace, the system specification will also be evolving and contributing to a growing number of SSHOC outcomes. This deliverable has been accepted by the European Commission on - 03 November 2020

This project aims to provide means to solve the interoperability issues that exist among the digital poetry repertoires. These repertoires hold data of poetry metrics that is locked in their own databases and it is not freely available to be compared and to be used by intelligent machines that could infer over the data. The POSTDATA project will use Linked Open Data (LOD) technologies to overcome the interoperability problems. POSTDATA is developing a metadata application proFIle (MAP) for the digital poetry repertoires, a construct that enhances interoperability. This development follows the method for the development of MAP (Me4MAP).A MAP for the digital poetry repertoires will open doors for this repertoires to be able to structure the data with a common model in order to publish it as Linked Open Data. This paper presents how this MAP is being developed so far.
