ABSTRACT: Since the end of the Late Middle Ages and throughout the Modern Era, some of the fishermen's associations established in the corregimiento of the Four Villas of the Coast managed to get the Monarchy to recognize the privilege of enjoying a maritime jurisdiction in each brotherhood. The establishment of these jurisdictions disgusted other institutions that saw their jurisdiction diminished. From this situation arose different conflicts in which the brotherhoods had to fight for the preservation of the maritime jurisdiction.

These methods are based on phonetic and lexical features obtained from a speech recognition system, and bottleneck features using the i-vector framework. We studied both generative and discriminative classifiers, and we combined these features using a multi-class Support Vector Machine (SVM). We validated our results on an Arabic/English language identification task, with an accuracy of 100%. We also evaluated these features in a binary classifier to discriminate between Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Dialectal Arabic, with an accuracy of 100%. We further reported results using the proposed methods to discriminate between the five most widely used dialects of Arabic: namely Egyptian, Gulf, Levantine, North African, and MSA, with an accuracy of 59.2%. We discuss dialect identification errors in the context of dialect code-switching between Dialectal Arabic and MSA, and compare the error pattern between manually labeled data, and the output from our classifier. All the data used on our experiments have been released to the public as a language identification corpus.

We explore methods of decode-time integration ofattention-based neural translation models with phrase-based statistical machinetranslation. Efficient batch-algorithms for GPU-querying are proposed and implemented. For English-Russian, our system stays behind the state-of-the-art pure neural models in terms of BLEU. Among restricted systems, manual evaluation places it in the first cluster tied with the pure neural model. For the Russian-English task, our submission achieves the top BLEU result, outperforming the best pure neural system by 1.1 BLEU points and our ownphrase-based baseline by 1.6 BLEU. After manual evaluation, this system is thebest restricted system in its own cluster. In follow-up experiments we improve results by additional 0.8 BLEU.

The growth of cities, the impacts of climate change and the massive cost of providing new infrastructure provide the impetus for TRUSS (Training in Reducing Uncertainty in Structural Safety), a €3.7 million Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Innovative Training Network project funded by EU's Horizon 2020 programme, which aims to maximize the potential of infrastructure that already exists (http://trussitn.eu). For that purpose, TRUSS brings together an international, inter-sectoral and multidisciplinary collaboration between five academic and eleven industry institutions from five European countries. The project covers rail and road infrastructure, buildings and energy and marine infrastructure. This paper reports progress in fields such as advanced sensor-based structural health monitoring solutions - unmanned aerial vehicles, optical backscatter reflectometry, monitoring sensors mounted on vehicles, ... - and innovative algorithms for structural designs and short- and long-term assessments of buildings, bridges, pavements, ships, ship unloaders, nuclear components and wind turbine towers that will support infrastructure operators and owners in managing their assets. The purpose of the interview, besides bringing his work to a wider audience of European historians and social scientists, is to reflect on the relationship between academic work and political and ideological activism, and to discuss the problems of subjectivism and the use of individual testimonies in the making of contemporary history. We invited James Green to reflect on those matters, so he could share with us the views of someone who, because of the nature of his work, could not help but deal permanently with such questions.

It thereby provides a valuable and underdiscussed perspective on workplace democracy that goes beyond the debate’s usual focus on the clarification and justification of workplace democrats’ core claim. It also goes beyond approaches like stakeholder theory in law and economics that determine decision-making rights without taking into account genuinely democratic considerations. My discussion proceeds by considering three principles for inclusion from democratic theory for the specific case of the corporation. I submit that two of them, the all-coerced and the all-subjected principle, are not appropriate for this specific case, because they cannot capture the distinguishing features of the corporation. The all-affected principle however is appropriate but has a very wide range. I further argue that this is not as big of a problem as it first might seem and that this principle is still the most appropriate for defining the demos of the democratic corporation. The article closes by pointing out the consequences of this result for the workplace democracy debate and for the legitimacy of the market as a coordination mechanism.

In this study, we integrated acoustic subbottom profiles, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) high-resolution bathymetric and backscatter data, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) seafloor observations, Bottom Water Temperatures (BWT), and compositions of gas samples collected from three research expeditions, to study the morphology and activity of the Helgoland mud volcano (Helgoland MV) in the Sorokin Trough of the Black Sea. Based on the micro bathymetric and backscatter maps, we conducted a geomorphological analysis which differentiates the Helgoland MV into five regions, which are: the active center, the inner crest, the inner moat, the outer crest, and an outer moat. Special seafloor features, such as gas bubble emissions, mud breccia and mud pools, were observed in different regions by ROV observations. They indicate a heterogeneous distribution of materials and activities at the Helgoland MV. Active mud extrusion from the center was inferred from BWT elevations (up to 1.652 °C) that showed the same orientation as a major fault (NW-SE) at the location. Methane stable carbon isotopes (−58.1∼−63.6‰) and molecular compositions of light hydrocarbons (C1/C2+ = 2836, CH4 = 99.545%, C2H6 = 0.033%, C3H8 = 0.002%, CO2 = 0.417%) suggest a predominance of biogenic hydrocarbons with an admixture of thermogenic gas. Circular faults surrounding the Helgoland MV, as observed in the bathymetric and sub-bottom profiles, are speculated to be formed due to subsidence of the MV caldera and gravity driven sediment movement. A conceptual model is proposed to explain the interrelationship between the seafloor morphology and activity of the Helgoland MV. Combining multidisciplinary data, especially from the application of ROVs and AUVs, broaden the scope in which the activity and morphology of submarine mud volcanoes can be investigated.
