La profonda trasformazione dello scenario di riferimento ha messo in crisi non soltanto il modello di sostenibilità, ma anche il modello di gestione e organizzativo delle organizzazioni culturali. I fattori di cambiamento imposti dalla pandemia hanno invece enfatizzato i vantaggi del modello delle partnership pubblico private (PPP). Lo scopo di questo contributo è di illustrare le caratteristiche di questo modello evidenziando da un lato le sue specificità e dall’altro di analizzare il ruolo delle organizzazioni ibride culturali di comunità con i quali i soggetti pubblici avviano processi di collaborazione. Il lavoro include anche la presentazione di un caso di studio rappresentato dal Parco archeologico dei Campi Flegrei che nel corso del 2019 ha avviato una sperimentazione di PPP. In the cultural sector, as in other sectors, the coronavirus pandemic has represented an acceleration factor of some processes already in progress in the strategic governance of public and private services. The deep transformation of the reference scenes has undermined not only the sustainability model, but also the management and organizational model of cultural organizations. The factors of change, that have been imposed by the pandemic, have instead emphasized the advantages of the public-private partnership model (PPP). The purpose of this contribution is to illustrate the characteristics of this model by highlighting its specificities and at the same time to analyze the role of hybrid cultural community organizations with which the public entities initiate collaboration processes. The work contains the presentation of a case study represented by the Phlegraean Fields Archaeological Park which in 2019 launched a PPP experimentation.

    Cultural heritage represents a strategic resource for the social and the economic development of territories. Today, the pressures facing urban areas require new approaches and tools for managing change, combining the objectives of cultural heritage conservation with those of socio-economic development. This paper deals with the theme of the reuse of contemporary relevant architecture, in which the choice of the new use and the design solutions are guided by the objective of generating opportunities for regeneration and enhancement of the historic urban landscape. The case study is an eclectic style building, called ''Il Capricho'', on the island of Ischia (Naples), built at the end of 50s and abandoned at the beginning of this century. Multidisciplinary research develops a methodological path that, starting from the construction of a shared urban regeneration scenario, develops a project of re-use of the building, aimed - on one hand - to enhance its performance and its identity - on the other - to interpret the need to improve the environmental, social and economic conditions of the urban context.

    The ability of representing spatio-temporal features plays a crucial role in Cultural Heritage field. Management of thematic contexts, of time domain with qualitative and imprecise references, hierarchical structure of time and spatial and temporal multiple granularities are very important feature in this environment for users aiming at discovering knowledge process. In this paper a framework to manage spatio-temporal cultural heritage data exploration and visualization is presented. This framework allows to develop web applications able to handle spatio-temporal objects, regardless of the specific descriptive nature of data, and relies on a flexible architecture for web applications that shows low coupling among tiers and uses standard files and protocols, like WFS, GML, KML, becoming independent from storage and visualization tools. The Visualization layer is designed to offer spatio-temporal views with a high level of personalization: users can choose different kinds of views and visual metaphors to compare objects on the geobrowser by activating or disabling layers of their interest. A new method aiming at visualizing and exploring the hierarchical and stratified time domain is presented. The user interface is open and extendable to new methods of visualization. Finally, a specific web application, based on the described framework, is shown. Keywords: : Spatio-Temporal Model, Spatio-Temporal Visualization, Temporal Exploration, Cultural Heritage.

    This article aims to discuss neo-Calvinist perspectives on race in the Dutch Colonial Empire. How did the colonial racial practice affect the Dutch neo-Calvinist perspectives on race? This article is based on new research: an analysis of a race-debate among neo-Calvinist church leaders in the Netherlands and colonial Indonesia. It is a debate which took place in the Dutch Christian weekly De Heraut in 1893 and 1894 and focused primarily on the practice of racial separation in the reformed church of Batavia. This article will describe, analyze and criticize this debate and bring it into context by making use of a model for racial categorization proposed by the Dutch scholar Dienke Hondius. In the end, it argues that the main argument of the neo-Calvinists for defending a separation policy was based on a linguistic, societal and cultural distinction. The neo-Calvinists however, ignored their own racial prejudice and preserved their church-practice of racial disjunction.

    The re-use of post-industrial areas has placed new questions and it has contributed in determining way to introduce innovations in the field of the planning and management urban planning: as a matter of fact, new urban functions or productive use are today possible in disrepaired areas. The cities and the territories have begun a redefinition process of the own image in order to attract new investor and the urban planning has gone beyond the logic of the rigid plan in order to try more flexible tools of transformation. It is necessary that the new generation of plans avails itself of the support of appropriated analysis methodologies of post-industrial places to understand, in the contemporary city, their new identity and possibile transformation and, moreover, the role of built heritage in revitalisation process. The change of interpersonal relationships and intergenerational gaps, the new demands connected to this change, the technological development, the globalization process have caused a transformation of the places of the city. New typologies of spaces arised and the way of utilisation of those already existing has been modified. The interrelations between these elements and the spin-off for a sustainable regeneration of post-industrial towns are various, not easily identifiable neither represented through a traditional planimetric relief, and cannot be easily read in a singular and unique way, but in their conversion into the identity of the places and the identification of the city. Starting from this premise, aim of this work is that of illustrating the question related to the traditional post-industrial city and two significant examples. Furthermore aim of this work is that of individualizing the contemporary urban places and proposing the methodology of analysis of the Sensitive Relief in order to identify new elements of the urban landscape which have value for the identification of the place, are able to provocate transformations also cultural and to influence the sustainable urban construction. In this way the method allows to identify the contemporary urban identity, whose rereading and reconfiguration can contribute to define the role of the cultural heritage and to construct a cultural and durable approach to the sustainable regeneration of post-industrial areas. The final result of the method is a complex map that represents a tool of knowledge for the citizens and a support to the preliminary feasibility studies for planners and administrators.

    Abstract As the UNESCO Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) of 2011 states, the «urban heritage, including its tangible and intangible components» and it defines the historic urban landscape as an «urban area understood as the result of a historic layering of cultural and natural values and attributes, extending beyond the notion of “historic centre” or “ensemble” to include the broader urban context and its geographical setting». This definition «provides the basis for a comprehensive and integrated approach for the identification, assessment, conservation and management of historic urban landscapes within an overall sustainable development framework». Since the concept of HUL is a ‘hub’ wheremany aspects and features are mixed and integrated, the Georgian landscape appears to be a significant and typical case: the Georgian culture is characterized by openness and continuous contacts with a lot of Greek, Roman, Iranian, Arabian, Russian and other cultures. This has given the Georgian landscape a specific identity and it offers to the same cultural landscape notion a challenge for his application and working out too (Cultural Landscape Convention, 2000). The main purpose of contribution is about the complexity of the Georgian cultural heritage resources and the particular approach has to be applied in relation to the national cultural programs of conservation and valorization of the Georgian historic urban and natural landscape. This demonstrates that multidisciplinary approach is essential to obtain the conservation of identity and cultural values especially with reference to the management plans which must guarantee that the programs meet with success.

    The recurrent wars of 1795-1815 coincided with numerous regime changes. Like many other port cities, Antwerp and Rotterdam faced unrest and economic insecurity, not least caused by Napoleon’s Continental Blockade in 1806. Historical accounts tend to stress the deteriorating conditions for the business world resulting from the restrictions in maritime trade. This article will focus on how sugar traders and sugar refiners faced difficulties, which strategies they applied to overcome crises, and whether they were successful in their attempts or not. The highly remunerative strategies of redirection, diversification and specialisation were sustained by networks; networks that provided the necessary information, furthered the spreading of risk and enabled merchants to profit from new solutions or opportunities. Resilience was boosted further by the growing domestic market that was willing to pay high prices for a luxury item such as sugar. Above all, the affluent businessmen and larger firms managed to weather the times of crises particularly well. De revolutionaire oorlogsperiode 1795-1815 bracht vergaande politieke verschuivingen. Net als veel andere havensteden kregen Antwerpen en Rotterdam te maken met grote economische onzekerheid, vooral ook door de Continentale Blokkade van Napoleon in 1806. Historici hebben vooral de verslechterende omstandigheden voor het bedrijfsleven benadrukt, als gevolg van de toenemende beperkingen in de maritieme handel. In dit artikel gaan wij na hoe suikerhandelaren en suikerraffinadeurs met de problemen omgingen, welke strategieën ze toepasten om de crisis te overwinnen en of ze al dan niet daarin succesvol waren. Netwerken bleken onmisbaar voor het vinden van nieuwe markten, voor diversificatie en specialisatie. De juiste connecties zorgden voor de nodige informatie, bevorderden het spreiden van risico’s en stelden de ondernemers in staat te profiteren van denieuwe kansen die de nieuwe politieke structuren boden. Een groeiende binnenlandse markt die bereid was hoge prijzen te betalen voor een luxeartikel als suiker versterkte de veerkracht. Vooral de rijkere ondernemers en de grotere bedrijven wisten de tijden van crises vrij goed te doorstaan.

La profonda trasformazione dello scenario di riferimento ha messo in crisi non soltanto il modello di sostenibilità, ma anche il modello di gestione e organizzativo delle organizzazioni culturali. I fattori di cambiamento imposti dalla pandemia hanno invece enfatizzato i vantaggi del modello delle partnership pubblico private (PPP). Lo scopo di questo contributo è di illustrare le caratteristiche di questo modello evidenziando da un lato le sue specificità e dall’altro di analizzare il ruolo delle organizzazioni ibride culturali di comunità con i quali i soggetti pubblici avviano processi di collaborazione. Il lavoro include anche la presentazione di un caso di studio rappresentato dal Parco archeologico dei Campi Flegrei che nel corso del 2019 ha avviato una sperimentazione di PPP. In the cultural sector, as in other sectors, the coronavirus pandemic has represented an acceleration factor of some processes already in progress in the strategic governance of public and private services. The deep transformation of the reference scenes has undermined not only the sustainability model, but also the management and organizational model of cultural organizations. The factors of change, that have been imposed by the pandemic, have instead emphasized the advantages of the public-private partnership model (PPP). The purpose of this contribution is to illustrate the characteristics of this model by highlighting its specificities and at the same time to analyze the role of hybrid cultural community organizations with which the public entities initiate collaboration processes. The work contains the presentation of a case study represented by the Phlegraean Fields Archaeological Park which in 2019 launched a PPP experimentation.

    Cultural heritage represents a strategic resource for the social and the economic development of territories. Today, the pressures facing urban areas require new approaches and tools for managing change, combining the objectives of cultural heritage conservation with those of socio-economic development. This paper deals with the theme of the reuse of contemporary relevant architecture, in which the choice of the new use and the design solutions are guided by the objective of generating opportunities for regeneration and enhancement of the historic urban landscape. The case study is an eclectic style building, called ''Il Capricho'', on the island of Ischia (Naples), built at the end of 50s and abandoned at the beginning of this century. Multidisciplinary research develops a methodological path that, starting from the construction of a shared urban regeneration scenario, develops a project of re-use of the building, aimed - on one hand - to enhance its performance and its identity - on the other - to interpret the need to improve the environmental, social and economic conditions of the urban context.

    The ability of representing spatio-temporal features plays a crucial role in Cultural Heritage field. Management of thematic contexts, of time domain with qualitative and imprecise references, hierarchical structure of time and spatial and temporal multiple granularities are very important feature in this environment for users aiming at discovering knowledge process. In this paper a framework to manage spatio-temporal cultural heritage data exploration and visualization is presented. This framework allows to develop web applications able to handle spatio-temporal objects, regardless of the specific descriptive nature of data, and relies on a flexible architecture for web applications that shows low coupling among tiers and uses standard files and protocols, like WFS, GML, KML, becoming independent from storage and visualization tools. The Visualization layer is designed to offer spatio-temporal views with a high level of personalization: users can choose different kinds of views and visual metaphors to compare objects on the geobrowser by activating or disabling layers of their interest. A new method aiming at visualizing and exploring the hierarchical and stratified time domain is presented. The user interface is open and extendable to new methods of visualization.     This article aims to discuss neo-Calvinist perspectives on race in the Dutch Colonial Empire. How did the colonial racial practice affect the Dutch neo-Calvinist perspectives on race? This article is based on new research: an analysis of a race-debate among neo-Calvinist church leaders in the Netherlands and colonial Indonesia. It is a debate which took place in the Dutch Christian weekly De Heraut in 1893 and 1894 and focused primarily on the practice of racial separation in the reformed church of Batavia. This article will describe, analyze and criticize this debate and bring it into context by making use of a model for racial categorization proposed by the Dutch scholar Dienke Hondius. In the end, it argues that the main argument of the neo-Calvinists for defending a separation policy was based on a linguistic, societal and cultural distinction. The neo-Calvinists however, ignored their own racial prejudice and preserved their church-practice of racial disjunction.

    The re-use of post-industrial areas has placed new questions and it has contributed in determining way to introduce innovations in the field of the planning and management urban planning: as a matter of fact, new urban functions or productive use are today possible in disrepaired areas. The cities and the territories have begun a redefinition process of the own image in order to attract new investor and the urban planning has gone beyond the logic of the rigid plan in order to try more flexible tools of transformation. It is necessary that the new generation of plans avails itself of the support of appropriated analysis methodologies of post-industrial places to understand, in the contemporary city, their new identity and possibile transformation and, moreover, the role of built heritage in revitalisation process. The change of interpersonal relationships and intergenerational gaps, the new demands connected to this change, the technological development, the globalization process have caused a transformation of the places of the city. New typologies of spaces arised and the way of utilisation of those already existing has been modified. The interrelations between these elements and the spin-off for a sustainable regeneration of post-industrial towns are various, not easily identifiable neither represented through a traditional planimetric relief, and cannot be easily read in a singular and unique way, but in their conversion into the identity of the places and the identification of the city. Starting from this premise, aim of this work is that of illustrating the question related to the traditional post-industrial city and two significant examples. Furthermore aim of this work is that of individualizing the contemporary urban places and proposing the methodology of analysis of the Sensitive Relief in order to identify new elements of the urban landscape which have value for the identification of the place, are able to provocate transformations also cultural and to influence the sustainable urban construction. In this way the method allows to identify the contemporary urban identity, whose rereading and reconfiguration can contribute to define the role of the cultural heritage and to construct a cultural and durable approach to the sustainable regeneration of post-industrial areas. The final result of the method is a complex map that represents a tool of knowledge for the citizens and a support to the preliminary feasibility studies for planners and administrators.

    Abstract As the UNESCO Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) of 2011 states, the «urban heritage, including its tangible and intangible components» and it defines the historic urban landscape as an «urban area understood as the result of a historic layering of cultural and natural values and attributes, extending beyond the notion of “historic centre” or “ensemble” to include the broader urban context and its geographical setting». This definition «provides the basis for a comprehensive and integrated approach for the identification, assessment, conservation and management of historic urban landscapes within an overall sustainable development framework». Since the concept of HUL is a ‘hub’ wheremany aspects and features are mixed and integrated, the Georgian landscape appears to be a significant and typical case: the Georgian culture is characterized by openness and continuous contacts with a lot of Greek, Roman, Iranian, Arabian, Russian and other cultures. This has given the Georgian landscape a specific identity and it offers to the same cultural landscape notion a challenge for his application and working out too (Cultural Landscape Convention, 2000). The main purpose of contribution is about the complexity of the Georgian cultural heritage resources and the particular approach has to be applied in relation to the national cultural programs of conservation and valorization of the Georgian historic urban and natural landscape. This demonstrates that multidisciplinary approach is essential to obtain the conservation of identity and cultural values especially with reference to the management plans which must guarantee that the programs meet with success.
