Research data keyboard_double_arrow_right Dataset 2021Publisher:SciELO journals Authors: LEANDRO BENEDINI BRUSADIN;LEANDRO BENEDINI BRUSADIN;ABSTRACT This paper reflects the crisis of hospitality on the global scene through the exhibition Persona grata at the National Museum of the History of Immigration in Paris. The challenge in this research is to contribute to establish an interdisciplinary debate on hospitality in the light of French thinkers like Derrida, Gotman, Boudou, Brugère and Le Blanc. The methodological element used in this research was direct observation and photographic recording. The presentation of the museum proposal for the Persona Grata exhibition highlights criticisms of modern hospitality. The link between hospitality and immigration, inserted in the permanent and temporary exhibitions of the National Museum of the History of Immigration, served to reflect on the practices of those included and excluded of the immigrants and refugees from the social process.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.euResearch data keyboard_double_arrow_right Collection 2017Publisher:Figshare Authors: Petersen, Alexander M.; Puliga, Michelangelo;Petersen, Alexander M.; Puliga, Michelangelo; The extent to which international high-skilled mobility channels are forming is a question of great importance in an increasingly global knowledge-based economy. One factor facilitating the growth of high-skilled labour markets is the standardization of certifiable degrees meriting international recognition. Within this context, we analysed an extensive high-skilled mobility database comprising roughly 382 000 individuals from five broad profession groups (Medical, Education, Technical, Science & Engineering and Business & Legal) over the period 1997–2014, using the 13-country expansion of the European Union (EU) to provide insight into labour market integration. We compare the periods before and after the 2004 enlargement, showing the emergence of a new east–west migration channel between the 13 mostly eastern EU entrants (E) and the rest of the western European countries (W). Indeed, we observe a net directional loss of human capital from E → W, representing 29% of the total mobility after 2004. Nevertheless, the counter-migration from W → E is 7% of the total mobility over the same period, signalling the emergence of brain circulation within the EU. Our analysis of the country–country mobility networks and the country–profession bipartite networks provides timely quantitative evidence for the convergent integration of the EU, and highlights the central role of the UK and Germany as high-skilled labour hubs. We conclude with two data-driven models to explore the structural dynamics of the mobility networks. First, we develop a reconfiguration model to explore the potential ramifications of Brexit and the degree to which redirection of high-skilled labourers away from the UK may impact the integration of the rest of the European mobility network. Second, we use a panel regression model to explain empirical high-skilled mobility rates in terms of various economic ‘push–pull’ factors, the results of which show that government expenditure on education, per capita wealth, geographical proximity and labour force size are significant attractive features of destination countries.

Analyzing their production and the complicated process of viewing a surface that refuses strict delimitation as text or image and as relic or reliquary reveals these mandalas to be visualizations of the multiplicity of the Buddha body. The paintings collapse distinction with indivisibility while the constant slippage of signifier into signified escapes rigid duality, a realization urged by the surface's perlocutionary effect. These singular works uncover underlying dynamics in premodern Japanese Buddhist art, such as invisibility, performativity, and an increasingly textualized visual world.

From this total, 112 reports have been detected, out of which 233 speech sequences have been selected, based on the French discourse analysis frames that allow us to understand both discursive formations. Hegemonically speaking, it has been possible to observe a discourse consolidation that considers youth as a value to be conquered and kept still, and aging, on the contrary, as a result of one's inability. According to Veja, being young is under the readers' responsibility, who will never get old if they follow its instructions.

He pioneered the new field of phytochemistry and was the world authority on plant amino acids. He was distinguished for the identification, characterization and biological function of a new category of nitrogen containing molecules in plants, the non-protein amino acids. During his research career, he isolated at least 50 of these compounds from a wide range of different plant genera and established their structural diversity, metabolic and toxic functions, and their scientific significance. In achieving this, he developed novel techniques for the rapid, quantitative separation of compounds by chromatography and electrophoresis, which were widely adopted in other disciplines. As director of Rothamsted Experimental Station, he opened up new areas of research in plant biochemistry and molecular biology, and became an effective voice for the importance of agricultural research in the UK. He provided strategic leadership in the translational application of plant biochemistry to the agrichemical industry and to global crop resistance and production. His discoveries established the complexity and central role of plant nitrogen metabolism in plant growth and laid the foundations for current research in plant sciences aimed at improving both food security and the nutritional value of plants.

Our understanding of the African diaspora in line with Nei Lopes’ definition, in which the term refers to the forced arrival of Black Africans to be enslaved in the Americas between the 16th and 19th centuries, and to the histories, memories, and heritage of their descendants. Articulating institutional sources and scientific literature, this study identified that, despite all efforts to broaden the approach to the Afro-diasporic experience by means of commemorative dates, such as the centennial of the abolition, in 1988, the topic is silenced and made invisible in the MHN’s exhibitions. Finally, the paper proposes other possibilities of reading the African diaspora on display, sharing recent experiences and pointing out new paths for the writing of history in exhibition projects developed by the institution.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.euResearch data keyboard_double_arrow_right Dataset 2022Publisher:SciELO journals Authors: MAGALHÃES, ALINE MONTENEGRO;MAGALHÃES, ALINE MONTENEGRO;ABSTRACT This paper examines the African diaspora within the long-term exhibits on the history of Brazil held at the National Historical Museum (MHN) between the 1980s and 2020s.
