description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2021 TurkishPublisher:Davut YİĞİTPAŞA Authors: YILMAZ, Dilek;YILMAZ, Dilek;Menuahinili olarak tanımlanan arkeolojik merkez, Iğdır’ın Karakoyunlu ilçesinin 2,6 km. güneydoğusunda alçak bir lav akıntısı tepesi üzerinde bulunmaktadır. Menuahinili olarak adlandırılan arkeolojik merkezde Geç Demir Çağı’na tarihlenen bulgular bu makalenin özünü oluşturmaktadır The Arhaeological center, defined as Menuahinili is 2,6 km. from Karakoyunlu district of Iğdır southeast of it is on a low lava flow hill. The first researches on this center were starded by Russian scientists at the end of the 19 century, and in the past 150 years, as many local and foreign scientists agree the relevant archaeological center was defined as Menuahinili. It is understood that the ancient cidy which is known with the Taşburun and/or Başbulak-Bulakbaşı inscirptions belonging to the Urartian King Menua was the sceene of intense use in the Late Iron Age after the Urartu Kingdom. In the city where the work was carried out with the scope of the 2021 researches, libations integrated into these fire pits, potsherdes from the Late Iron Age and a figurine head were found. The proximity that the archaeological center to Iran and Armenia located in the area where the Iğdır Plain of the Middle Aras Basin and Mount Ararat intertwine in the east, strengthens the possibility that the center was used in the Late Iron Age. Findings dated to the Late Iron Age in the archaeological center called Menuahinili constitute the core this article.

Northern Mesopotamia, Nineveh’s land and the new researches at AmyanThe Archaeological Expedition in Amyan began its work in 2019. Located in the northwestern region of Iraqi Kurdistan, the site of Amyan presents itself as an important tell surrounded by a lower town, with a surface area of around fifteen hectares. Occupied almost continuously from the Neolithic to the Islamic period, Amyan is the ideal archaeological site to study the occupation of this region of Iraqi Kurdistan as well as the relationship between the site and its immediate environment, the Navkur plain, in the hinterland of Nineveh, an extremely fertile plain which shows a high density of occupation. This article first presents a historical overview of this region from the 7th millennium to the Islamic period. Then, the results of the first campaign of the Archaeological Expedition in Amyan are developed.

That is, ecocriticism must distinguish itself from writings on the environment in general, namely by presenting a narrative showing that humans need to have a sense of attachment to nature, as well as by presenting a narrative showing that the world of humans and the world of non-humans needs to be positioned equally. In the novel The Bear (2020) by Andrew Krivak, the voice of equality between humans and nature is the dominant issue. Using the human ecology concept from Philip J. Stewart as a key concept, this study aims to describe how human fragility and natural domination presented in the novel The Bear (2020) support the idea of human ecology, as well as how human ecologyvoiced in the novel The Bear (2020) criticizes the view of anthropocentrism which believes that humans are the center of life. This study shows that the voice of human ecology in the novel The Bear (2020) which is presented through human fragility, natural domination, to criticism of the anthropocentrism view offers the idea of a balance between humans and nature. The balance in question is a condition in which humans and nature return to an equal position, where neither one of them is harmed.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2021Publisher:Pamukkale University Authors: Fahriye BAYRAM;Fahriye BAYRAM;Within the context of the deep-rooted cross cult from early ages in Georgian culture, influences of environmental cultures, St. Nino's inspire, pieces of a real cross sent as gifts etc., cross depictions have been included in all areas of art, especially in architecture. The same tradition has been continued in the Tao Klarceti area. For this reason, firstly, a summary of the Tao Klarceti region’s history has been included in our study and then numerous variations of crosses such as the cross with arms of equal length, Latin cross, life cross, the raising of the cross, etc. and the long past that served as the basis for the cross and the life cross symbols have been looked at.The Georgian people, who took their place in the Christian world since the beginning of the 4th century, made their basic beliefs visible in the pattern of the cross motif by blending the traditions brought from the past with the influence of the surrounding cultures and the doctrine of the new religion, so they used the cross in every area of daily life and art. In the Tao Klarceti region, many forms of the cross have been applied by creating new styles, especially the interlaced types. The compositions of the cross of life and the scenes of the raising of the cross were the most adopted types, while its practices in the West were almost non-existent, and they had been used in Georgia and Tao Klarceti with regional creations until late periods. All kinds of cross forms have been used in the compositions, but Latin cross and the Bolnuri/Bolnisi type of crosses with arms of equal length are preferred. Surprisingly, the Latin cross type that made of grapevine branches, whose horizontal arm is slightly tilted downwards, which Nino made from vine branches and tied his arms with hair strands, accepted as the sacred symbol of the Georgian Orthodox Church, was not used in the Tao Klarceti architectural decoration of churches. Emphasizing the eastern facades with crosses has become a tradition, these crosses, which are kept in small sizes in the Tao Klarceti region, have been brought to a larger size in Georgian structures and have a certain scheme. Small-sized crosses on the facades were generally placed on the arches of the loophole windows, the elevations of the arches were transformed into Calvary crosses considered as Golgotha Hill. Except for the painted examples, the motifs are made by embossed technique, but albeit a little carving technique is used. Antefixes have also taken their place among the architectural elements decorated with cross motifs.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2021Publisher:OpenEdition Authors: Wu, Jialin Christina;Wu, Jialin Christina;Sixty years after its enactment, the Women’s Charter remains lauded as a landmark piece of legislation in Singapore. Through its provisions, this legislative Act affirmed the rights of women, protected vulnerable women and girls, outlined the rights and responsibilities of married persons, and mandated that all non-Muslim marriages were henceforth to be monogamous. This article examines the historical developments that led to the introduction of this unprecedented “women’s Bill of Rights” by the PAP (People’s Action Party) government in 1961. Whilst extant literature credits its origins to the lobbying efforts of the Singapore’s Council of Women formed in 1952, this article argues for the need to adopt a broader contextual perspective to better account for the development of this “revolutionary” Bill between 1952 and 1961. Furthermore, earlier attempts at marriage reform, such as the 1950 Age of Marriage Bill spearheaded by the Singapore Progressive Party’s John Laycock, have curiously been overlooked in the larger narrative of women’s rights and social reform in Singapore. This article thus seeks to remedy this gap in our knowledge and to provide a fuller understanding of Singapore’s civil society in the post-war era, leading up to the introduction of the Women’s Charter.
