    Authors: Schmitz, Hendrik; Tawiah, Beatrice Baaba;

    Wir untersuchen den Einfluss von Bildung auf die Gesundheit (Krankenhausaufenthalte, Anzahl der diagnostizierten Krankheiten, selbst eingeschätzter schlechter Gesundheitszustand und Fettleibigkeit) über den Lebenszyklus hinweg. Hierzu verwenden wir Reformen zur Verlängerung der Pflichtschulzeit als exogene Variation. Unsere Ergebnisse zeigen eine positive Korrelation zwischen Gesundheit und Bildung auf, die im Laufe des Lebenszyklus zunimmt. Wir finden jedoch keinen kausalen Effekt eines zusätzlichen Schuljahrs auf die Gesundheit oder die Inanspruchnahme von Gesundheitsleistungen für Personen bis zum Alter von 79 Jahren. Eine Ausnahme ist die Fettleibigkeit, bei der positive Auswirkungen der Schulbildung ab einem Alter von 60 sichtbar und in der Altersgruppe 75-79 auch sehr groß werden. Die Ergebnisse in der Altersgruppe 75-79 sind aufgrund des geringen Stichprobenumfangs und möglichen Problemen durch Panelaustritt aber mit Vorsicht zu interpretieren. We study the effect of education on health (hospital stays, number of diagnosed conditions, self-rated poor health, and obesity) over the life-cycle in Germany, using compulsory schooling reforms as a source of exogenous variation. Our results suggest a positive correlation of health and education which increases over the life-cycle. We do not, however, find any positive local average treatment effects of an additional year of schooling on health or health care utilization for individuals up to age 79. An exception is obesity, where positive effects of schooling start to be visible around age 60 and become very large in age group 75-79. The results in age group 75-79 need to be interpreted with caution, however, due to small sample size and possible problems of attrition.

    Michel Foucault is a popular thinker across disciplines in academia. In Indonesian communication studies, his concepts are used in several ways as an instrument analysis on many communication act/ event. The problem is only little, or even no one, wrote how to do the Foucauldian method of analysis in the context of communication studies. This article proposes how to do Foucauldian analysis in communication studies by focusing on analyzing statements, historical analysis and analysis of power. This article explains that Foucauldian discourse analysis is not textual-linguistic analysis, then it could be done in all of the research areas within communication studies, including communication researches with managerial perspectives such as public relations, business communication, advertising, and others.     Authors: Francesca Privitera;

    In 1932 Giovanni Michelucci visited Pompeii and Ercolano. The experience of the archaeological site played a key role in the development of Michelucci as an architect. The deepest sense of that lesson learnt in his youth resurfaced after 1944. Involved as he was in the debate on reconstruction, for Michelucci the inseparable relation between society and the city revealed by the remains at Pompeii was an unavoidable inspiration. The writings and designs submitted for the reconstruction of the Ponte Vecchio area (1944-1945) converge towards a new urban vision, one where the memory of the past is distilled in its deepest components and substantiated in the present. The Sumatran subduction zone exhibits strong seismic and tsunamogenic potential with the prominent examples of the 2004, 2005 and 2007 earthquakes. Here, we invert travel-time data of local earthquakes for vp and vp∕vs velocity models of the central Sumatran forearc. Data were acquired by an amphibious seismometer network consisting of 52 land stations and 10 ocean-bottom seismometers located on a segment of the Sumatran subduction zone that had not ruptured in a great earthquake since 1797 but witnessed recent ruptures to the north in 2005 (Nias earthquake, Mw = 8.7) and to the south in 2007 (Bengkulu earthquake, Mw = 8.5). The 2-D and 3-D vp velocity anomalies reveal the downgoing slab and the sedimentary basins. Although the seismicity pattern in the study area appears to be strongly influenced by the obliquely subducting Investigator Fracture Zone to at least 200 km depth, the 3-D velocity model shows prevailing trench-parallel structures at depths of the plate interface. The tomographic model suggests a thinned crust below the basin east of the forearc islands (Nias, Pulau Batu, Siberut) at ∼ 180 km distance to the trench. vp velocities beneath the magmatic arc and the Sumatran fault zone (SFZ) are around 5 km s−1 at 10 km depth and the vp∕vs ratios in the uppermost 10 km are low, indicating the presence of felsic lithologies typical for continental crust. We find moderately elevated vp∕vs values of 1.85 at ∼ 150 km distance to the trench in the region of the Mentawai Fault. vp∕vs ratios suggest an absence of large-scale alteration of the mantle wedge and might explain why the seismogenic plate interface (observed as a locked zone from geodetic data) extends below the continental forearc Moho in Sumatra. Reduced vp velocities beneath the forearc basin covering the region between the Mentawai Islands and the Sumatra mainland possibly reflect a reduced thickness of the overriding crust.

    Authors: Luca Degl'Innocenti;

    Between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, chivalric romances were much loved in Italy, both in popular and in learned contexts, and were one of the bestselling genres in the nascent printed book trade. Although traditional blockbusters and brand-new poems alike typically refer to the oral performance of a poet-singer, literary scholars tend to evaluate those references as part of a rhetorical strategy of fictive orality, as literary clichés derived from a performing practice supposedly confined to earlier periods. Nevertheless, upon closer inspection, many authors and texts prove to be linked with real oral performances. Several chivalric poems, in particular, were surely composed, sung, and even improvised by street singers, who also played a very active role in printing and selling them. The paper aims to survey the most relevant evidence, thus reassessing the importance of orality in fostering and disseminating one of the prominent literary genres of Renaissance Italy Journal of Early Modern Studies, Vol 7 (2018)

    Convicts Life In James Tucker's The Adventures Of Ralph Rashleigh. Convicts transported from Britain to Australia are one of historical phenomenon. This research is aimed to describe the convicts life in the late eighteenth century to early nineteenth century in Australia as illustrated in The Adventures of Ralph Rashleigh by James Tucker. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected by using library research and it was analyzed by applying sociological approach proposed by Swingewood (1972) who revealed three classifications of sociology of literature. In this case, the researcher focused on the classification of sociology as the mirror of age. The result of this research showed that the convicts alive harshly in Australia where the flogging was a common punishment for them

    Developing a chatbot becomes a challenging task when it is built from scratch and independent of any Software as a Service (SaaS). Inspired by the idea of freeing lecturers from the burden of answering the same questions repetitively during the pre-registration process, this research has succeeded in building a textbased chatbot system. Further, this research has proved that the combination of keyword spotting technique for the Language Understanding component, Finite-State Transducer (FST) for the Dialogue Management, rulebased keyword matching for language generation, and the system-in-the-loop paradigm for system validation can produce an efficient chatbot. The chatbot efficiency is high enough as its score on Concept Efficiency (CE) reaches 0.946. It shows that users do not need to repeat their utterances several times to be understood. The chatbot performance on recognizing new concepts introduced by users is also more than satisfactory which is presented by its Query Density (QD) score of 0.80.

    Kajaolaliddong was well known as a scholar and advisor to the King of Bone in term life mainly related to basic values of state (kingdom), law, and/or political culture. The thoughts of Kajaolaliddong cover the aspects of customs, justice, jurisprudence, and complete governmental systems. Kajaolaliddong was an ambassador to assist the King in overcoming the problems which occurred with the neighboring kingdoms. Besides, this appointment aimed to grow and develop the Kingdom of Bone. The methods used were the library research referring to the ancients documents, such as lontaraq (Buginese ancient manuscript), oral and previous studies. The study shows that the basic pattern called pangadereng (customs) later becomes references of the King and other officials in their activities. The main narrations of Kajaolaliddong thoughts were lempue nasibawai tau (honesty and religiosity), ada tongeng nasibawa tike (true words with vigilance), siri nasibawai getting (shame or self esteem with determination), awaraningeng nasibawai nyameng kininnawa (courage with love), appesona ri Dewata seuwwae (surrender to One God). Of these five components, Kajaolaliddong thoughts emphasized three major components, namely honesty, intelligence, and courage.

    Togetherness and tolerance are among Indonesian traditional cultures which are rarely found in urban society today. The research conducted tried to explore the life of kampung settlements in the center of Jakarta in the era of the 1960s - 1990s, and how the population with a rural background built value of togetherness in the middle of a fast growing city which constantly changes. The study is a historical search to observe the metamorphosis of space and the impact on the pattern of society. The research methodology is carried out through archival and literature studies, followed by field observations and interviews with related actors. The study revealed that in the midst of limited space, the alley as a public space in the kampung, no longer acts just as roads and boundaries between houses, but has shifted into the extention of the house and a shared space for people. The boundaries of private and public areas are blurred in the alley and residents apply the rules of tolerance in using space. After all the alley becomes a binding space between residents Kebersamaan dan toleransi adalah budaya tradisional Indonesia yang sudah jarang ditemukan pada masyarakat perkotaan saat ini. Penelitian ini mencoba melacak kehidupan permukiman kampung di pusat Jakarta pada era 1960- 1990-an dan menelusuri bagaimana penduduk dengan latar belakang pedesaan membangun nilai kebersamaan di tengah kota yang tumbuh dengan cepat dan terus berubah. Penelitian ini merupakan telaah sejarah untuk mengamati metamorfosa ruang dan dampaknya pada pola kehidupan sosial masyarakat. Metodologi penelitian dilakukan melalui studi arsip dan literatur yang dilengkapi dengan observasi lapangan serta wawancara dengan para aktor terkait. Penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa di tengah ruang yang terbatas, ruas gang sebagai area publik di permukiman tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai ruas jalan maupun pembatas antarrumah, melainkan telah menjadi area perluasan rumahrumah penduduk dan ruang berbagi antarwarga. Batas-batas antara area privat dan publik telah menjadi kabur, aturan penggunaan gang ditetapkan berdasarkan azas toleransi. Pada akhirnya gang menciptakan ikatan-ikatan antarwarga dan membangun kebersamaan penduduk.

    International audience; This paper presents the results of the SHREC'18 track: Retrieval of gray patterns depicted on 3D models. The task proposed in the contest challenges the possibility of retrieving surfaces with the same texture pattern of a given query model. This task, which can be seen as a simplified version of many real world applications, requires a characterization of the surfaces based on local features, rather then considering the surface size and/or bending. All runs submitted to this track are based on feature vectors. The retrieval performances of the runs submitted for evaluation reveal that texture pattern retrieval is a challenging issue. Indeed, a good balance between the size of the pattern and the dimension of the region around a vertex used to locally analyze the color evolution is crucial for pattern description.

    Michel Foucault is a popular thinker across disciplines in academia. In Indonesian communication studies, his concepts are used in several ways as an instrument analysis on many communication act/ event. The problem is only little, or even no one, wrote how to do the Foucauldian method of analysis in the context of communication studies. This article proposes how to do Foucauldian analysis in communication studies by focusing on analyzing statements, historical analysis and analysis of power. This article explains that Foucauldian discourse analysis is not textual-linguistic analysis, then it could be done in all of the research areas within communication studies, including communication researches with managerial perspectives such as public relations, business communication, advertising, and others.     Authors: Francesca Privitera;

    Authors: Luca Degl'Innocenti;
