    El Proyecto de Extensión e Investigación “Paisajes de barro” propone un acercamiento al uso del barro como materia prima en el Departamento de Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca) desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar y participativa. En el área de investigación, nuestro objetivo recae en conocer la utilización de este material durante la historia reciente y su vigencia en la actualidad. Por ello, junto a las comunidades locales, nuestro equipo de estudiantes y graduados está relevando el patrimonio cultural vinculado al uso del barro, tanto en sus manifestaciones materiales (estructuras arquitectónicas y objetos cerámicos), como en las inmateriales (conocimientos, usos y costumbres vinculados). En los últimos tres años estamos desarrollando actividades participativas en Antofagasta de la Sierra, donde se intercambian saberes propios de estas tecnologías. Sin embargo, no solo nos centramos en la investigación, ya que dichas actividades también están orientadas a documentar y difundir los objetos, estructuras y conocimientos asociados al barro, además de contribuir a su preservación y puesta en valor de manera conjunta. De esta manera, se están recuperando antiguas prácticas, usos y tradiciones, a la vez que se reflexiona sobre las ventajas de estas tecnologías para las sociedades antofagasteñas actuales, tanto desde el punto de vista cultural como del de la economía sustentable y el buen vivir. O Projeto de Extensão e Pesquisa “Paisagens de barro” propõe uma abordagem ao uso do barro como matéria-prima no Departamento de Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca) a partir de uma perspectiva multidisciplinar e participativa. Na área de pesquisa, nosso objetivo é conhecer a utilização desse material durante a história recente e sua vigência na atualidade. Por isso, em conjunto com as comunidades locais, nossa equipe de estudantes e graduados faz um levantamento do patrimônio cultural ligado ao uso do barro, tanto nas suas manifestações materiais (estruturas arquitetônicas e objetos cerâmicos), como nas imateriais (conhecimentos, usos e costumes relacionados). Nos últimos três anos desenvolvemos atividades participativas em Antofagasta de la Sierra, onde se trocam saberes próprios destas tecnologias. No entanto, não nos centramos apenas na pesquisa, uma vez que estas atividades visam também documentar e divulgar os objetos, estruturas e conhecimentos associados ao barro, além de contribuir para a sua preservação e valorização de maneira conjunta. Desta forma, estão sendo recuperadas antigas práticas, usos e tradições, ao mesmo tempo que se reflete sobre as vantagens destas tecnologias para as sociedades atuais de Antofagasta, tanto do ponto de vista cultural como da economia sustentável e do bem estar. The Research and Dissemination Project “Paisajes de barro” (Clay Landscapes) proposes a crossdisciplinary and participative approach to the use of earth as raw material in the Antofagasta de la Sierra Department (Catamarca). In terms of research, our goal is to study the use of this material during recent history and its current status. Thus, together with local communities, our group of students and graduates is surveying the cultural heritage linked to the use of clay, in both their material (architectural structures, pottery) and intangible (knowledge, uses, traditions) manifestations. For the last three years we have taken part in diverse activities that involve exchange of knowledge about the different uses of earth in these Puna villages. However, the work is not restricted to research; such activities are also aimed at documenting and disseminating the objects, structures and know-how of clay technologies, as well as contributing to their joint preservation and valorization. Thus, our project recovers ancient practices, uses and traditions while reflecting upon the advantages of these technologies for modern societies at Antofagasta de la Sierra, both from a cultural perspective and as sustainable economy and good living.     In this article, Msgr. Dr. José Luis Kaufmann goes through the history of the flag of the Catholic Church. With his meticulousness and rigor, the author summarizes the progress in the creation of the vexillum of the Church. At the same time, the text describes events in the history of the Church, starting from the Middle Ages and ending with the 20th century. The vexillum of the Catholic Church is the symbol of the spiritual sovereignty of the Church over the whole world. En el presente trabajo, Mons. Dr. José Luis Kaufmann realiza un recorrido por la historia de la bandera de la Iglesia Católica. Con su meticulosidad y rigor característicos, el autor sintetiza el avance en la conformación del vexillum de la Iglesia. A su vez, el texto nos muestra acontecimientos de la Historia de la Iglesia, desde tiempos medievales hasta el siglo XX.     Este trabajo forma parte del Plan Museológico llevado adelante por el Servicio Geológico Minero Argentino (SEGEMAR), con el fin de recuperar y poner en valor una importante colección de rocas, minerales, fósiles, cartografías, fotografías, equipos e instrumentos de exploración, constituida por el Estado argentino a partir de 1890, con la creación del Museo del Departamento Nacional de Minas y Geología. A partir de la revisión de fuentes documentales primarias, se logra describir el origen de este primer Museo, identificando su desenvolvimiento más importante entre 1890 y 1974. Período durante el cual, el área geológica y minera gubernamental logra mantener activo el Museo, con un crecimiento permanente de su colección, debido a la concurrencia de investigadores internacionales, pioneros en la investigación geológica nacional, y a su vez, formadores de los primeros geólogos y geólogas argentinas, estableciendo la primera cátedra de esta especialidad en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. This work is part of the Museum Planning carried out by the Argentine Mining Geological Survey, in order to recover and value an important collection of rocks, minerals, fossils, cartographies, photographs, survey tools and equipment, gathered by Argentine State organizations since 1890, beginning with the creation of the Museum of the National Mining and Geological Department. The review of primary documentary sources allowed us to characterize the origin of this first Museum, whose most important development period took place between 1890 and 1974. During this lapse, the Governmental area for Geology and Mining was able to keep the Museum active, with permanent increase of its collections due to the visits and contributions of international researchers, who pioneered geological research in Argentina and were in turn the trainers of the first local geologists, establishing the first chair to teach this specialty at the University of Buenos Aires. Este trabalho faz parte do Plano Museológico realizado pelo Serviço Geológico Mineiro Argentino (SEGEMAR), com o objetivo de recuperar e valorizar uma importante coleção de rochas, minerais, fósseis, cartografias, fotografias, equipamentos e instrumentos de exploração, constituída pelo Estado argentino a partir de 1890, com a criação do Museu do Departamento Nacional de Minas e Geologia. A partir da revisão de fontes documentais primárias é possível descrever a origem deste primeiro Museu, identificando o seu desenvolvimento mais importante entre 1890 e 1974. Neste período a área geológica e mineira governamental conseguiu manter o Museu ativo, com um crescimento permanente de sua coleção, graças à colaboração de pesquisadores internacionais, pioneiros na pesquisa geológica nacional e, por sua vez, formadores dos primeiros geólogos e geólogas argentinos, estabelecendo a primeira cátedra desta especialidade na Universidade de Buenos Aires.     Como plenarista del V Congreso de la AAHD presenté varias metodologías que aplico a cuestiones literarias de forma experimental. Utilizando de ejemplo un experimento sobre análisis de sentimientos, justifico la necesidad de dar cuenta de los entornos HD multilingües desde mi experiencia bilingüe en los Estados Unidos, dentro de las digital humanities en general y de los talleres en particular para proponer experimentos piloto con metodologías existentes como prototipos para puntos de entrada al análisis de texto en diferentes idiomas. Este artículo no afirma que el método aquí usado sea el mejor enfoque lingüístico o cultural para el análisis de sentimientos de los productos culturales hispanoamericanos. Sin embargo, defiende el potencial de explorar técnicas disponibles para crear espacios más inclusivos en escenarios de aprendizaje rápido y en los que, por norma general, los textos literarios utilizados pertenecen al canon anglosajón.     El pasado 13 de mayo se inauguró la “Exhibición fundamental de arte en los libros de poesía y ficción” curada por Belén Coluccio y Juan Cruz Pedroni en Local de Artes Recientes (LAR). Esta muestra, que pudo visitarse hasta el 10 de junio, propuso derroteros reflexivos sobre algunos hitos de la cultura impresa argentina del siglo XX que profesaron un estrecho vínculo entre la literatura y el arte desde distintas coordenadas. Así, en una apuesta curatorial perspicaz, en la que no estuvo ausente el contacto directo e íntimo, diversos proyectos editoriales salieron al encuentro de los visitantes durante casi un mes. On May 13 the “Exhibición fundamental de arte en los libros de poesía y ficción”, curated by Belén Coluccio and Juan Cruz Pedroni, was inaugurated at Local de Artes Recientes (LAR). This exhibition, which could be visited until June 10, proposed reflective paths on some milestones of Argentine print culture of the 20th century that professed a close link between literature and art from different coordinates.     La moderna historia artístico-institucional argentina tiene un recorrido que se origina en Buenos Aires en 1876 desde una iniciativa particular, con la fundación de la Sociedad Estímulo de Bellas Artes, y que, sólo en 1905, se vuelve nacional con el nacimiento de la Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes. Las investigaciones que han ahondado en este proceso se han enfocado sobre todo en subrayar la continuidad casi biológica entre las dos instituciones; en cambio, este trabajo apunta a destacar el rol que tuvo la constitución de la Comisión Nacional de Bellas Artes (1897) para la configuración de una institución gubernamental de enseñanza artística. The origins of Argentina’s artistic-institutional history can be traced back to the foundation of a private institution, the Sociedad Estímulo de Bellas Artes, in Buenos Aires in 1876; while the National Academy of Fine Arts was not established until 1905. Previous research has mainly focused on the almost organic continuity between the two institutions. In contrast, this paper will emphasize the role played by the establishment of the Comisión Nacional de Bellas Artes (1897) in the formation of a governmental institution for artistic education, which was founded to regulate pensions for artistic studies abroad.     El más reciente libro de Juan Diego Vila, "Furores impresos", nos propone un recorrido por el "Quijote" de 1615 a partir de una serie de trabajos escritos a lo largo de casi dos décadas y recopilados en función de un hilo conductor. Como lo anticipa su título y se asevera luego en la introducción, el volumen indaga -a partir del análisis del texto cervantino- el impacto provocado por el advenimiento de la imprenta en la vida de los lectores y, más específicamente, las lectoras durante la modernidad temprana, así como el lugar que ocupa la literatura en sus vidas y en la constitución de sus subjetividades. Tras el “Prólogo”, escrito magistralmente por Ruth Fine, el minucioso trabajo de Vila se desarrolla a través de doce capítulos, distribuidos en una introducción y cuatro partes de dispar extensión.     La presente propuesta de lectura apuesta a un descentramiento. La incursión crítica en una obra insoslayable de la Literatura Española Moderna y Contemporánea con protocolos exegéticos propios y bien frecuentes del Siglo de Oro español: las estrategias de simbolización y producción de sentidos ancladas en los incipientes discursos humanistas y barrocos sobre la animalidad. Atalaya de sentido que, en gran medida, nutre múltiples abordajes teóricos coetáneos sobre los significados de lo animal en la literatura y en las artes. La escena que orientará nuestras indagaciones podría considerarse marginal en múltiples aspectos: ocurre a tan sólo un capítulo de la conclusión del relato y sobreviene cuando el lector ya sabe de la caída de Ana Ozores. Mas nos resulta evidente que, cual cifra de un sinfín de coordenadas de la novela, lo que contemple y sueñe Víctor Quintanar en las postrimerías de su deshonra trasciende lo estrictamente anecdótico puesto que si bien puede admitirse que la visión de la “falange de cuervos” volando incide en la animalización de las personas y figuras que poblarán su último sueño, no debería pasarse por alto que su evasión de la realidad sobreviene precisamente cuando contempla la única viñeta maternal de toda la novela. Y ello se complejizará más cuando se advierta que la relevancia de estas aves trasciende, con creces, el fragmento espigado pues "La Regenta", en múltiples dimensiones, alienta una meditación sobre la deshumanización de aquellas comunidades señoreadas por los cuervos al tiempo que, en paralelo, bosqueja el infausto y aciago destino de quienes fracasan en el imperativo filiatorio. The present reading proposal bets on a decentering. The critical incursion in an unavoidable work of the Modern and Contemporary Spanish Literature with own and very frequent exegetic protocols of the Spanish Golden Age: the strategies of symbolization and production of senses anchored in the incipient humanist and baroque discourses on animality. A watchtower of meaning that, to a great extent, nourishes multiple contemporary theoretical approaches on the meanings of the animal in literature and the arts. The scene that will guide our inquiries could be considered marginal in many respects: it occurs only one chapter away from the conclusion of the story and happens when the reader already knows about the fall of Ana Ozores. But it is evident to us that, as a cipher of a myriad of coordinates in the novel, what Víctor Quintanar contemplates and dreams of in the final stages of his disgrace transcends the strictly anecdotal, since although it can be admitted that the vision of the "phalanx of crows" flying overhead has an impact on the animalization of the people and figures that will populate his last dream, it should not be overlooked that his evasion of reality occurs precisely when he contemplates the only maternal vignette in the entire novel. And this will become more complex when we realize that the relevance of these birds transcends, by far, the gleaned fragment because La Regenta, in multiple dimensions, encourages a meditation on the dehumanization of those communities dominated by the crows while, in parallel, sketches the ill-fated and fateful destiny of those who fail in the filial imperative.     El Proyecto de Extensión e Investigación “Paisajes de barro” propone un acercamiento al uso del barro como materia prima en el Departamento de Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca) desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar y participativa. En el área de investigación, nuestro objetivo recae en conocer la utilización de este material durante la historia reciente y su vigencia en la actualidad. Por ello, junto a las comunidades locales, nuestro equipo de estudiantes y graduados está relevando el patrimonio cultural vinculado al uso del barro, tanto en sus manifestaciones materiales (estructuras arquitectónicas y objetos cerámicos), como en las inmateriales (conocimientos, usos y costumbres vinculados). En los últimos tres años estamos desarrollando actividades participativas en Antofagasta de la Sierra, donde se intercambian saberes propios de estas tecnologías. Sin embargo, no solo nos centramos en la investigación, ya que dichas actividades también están orientadas a documentar y difundir los objetos, estructuras y conocimientos asociados al barro, además de contribuir a su preservación y puesta en valor de manera conjunta. De esta manera, se están recuperando antiguas prácticas, usos y tradiciones, a la vez que se reflexiona sobre las ventajas de estas tecnologías para las sociedades antofagasteñas actuales, tanto desde el punto de vista cultural como del de la economía sustentable y el buen vivir. O Projeto de Extensão e Pesquisa “Paisagens de barro” propõe uma abordagem ao uso do barro como matéria-prima no Departamento de Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca) a partir de uma perspectiva multidisciplinar e participativa. Na área de pesquisa, nosso objetivo é conhecer a utilização desse material durante a história recente e sua vigência na atualidade. Por isso, em conjunto com as comunidades locais, nossa equipe de estudantes e graduados faz um levantamento do patrimônio cultural ligado ao uso do barro, tanto nas suas manifestações materiais (estruturas arquitetônicas e objetos cerâmicos), como nas imateriais (conhecimentos, usos e costumes relacionados). Nos últimos três anos desenvolvemos atividades participativas em Antofagasta de la Sierra, onde se trocam saberes próprios destas tecnologias. No entanto, não nos centramos apenas na pesquisa, uma vez que estas atividades visam também documentar e divulgar os objetos, estruturas e conhecimentos associados ao barro, além de contribuir para a sua preservação e valorização de maneira conjunta. Desta forma, estão sendo recuperadas antigas práticas, usos e tradições, ao mesmo tempo que se reflete sobre as vantagens destas tecnologias para as sociedades atuais de Antofagasta, tanto do ponto de vista cultural como da economia sustentável e do bem estar. The Research and Dissemination Project “Paisajes de barro” (Clay Landscapes) proposes a crossdisciplinary and participative approach to the use of earth as raw material in the Antofagasta de la Sierra Department (Catamarca). In terms of research, our goal is to study the use of this material during recent history and its current status. Thus, together with local communities, our group of students and graduates is surveying the cultural heritage linked to the use of clay, in both their material (architectural structures, pottery) and intangible (knowledge, uses, traditions) manifestations. For the last three years we have taken part in diverse activities that involve exchange of knowledge about the different uses of earth in these Puna villages. However, the work is not restricted to research; such activities are also aimed at documenting and disseminating the objects, structures and know-how of clay technologies, as well as contributing to their joint preservation and valorization. Thus, our project recovers ancient practices, uses and traditions while reflecting upon the advantages of these technologies for modern societies at Antofagasta de la Sierra, both from a cultural perspective and as sustainable economy and good living.     In this article, Msgr. Dr. José Luis Kaufmann goes through the history of the flag of the Catholic Church. With his meticulousness and rigor, the author summarizes the progress in the creation of the vexillum of the Church. At the same time, the text describes events in the history of the Church, starting from the Middle Ages and ending with the 20th century. The vexillum of the Catholic Church is the symbol of the spiritual sovereignty of the Church over the whole world. En el presente trabajo, Mons. Dr. José Luis Kaufmann realiza un recorrido por la historia de la bandera de la Iglesia Católica. Con su meticulosidad y rigor característicos, el autor sintetiza el avance en la conformación del vexillum de la Iglesia.     Este trabajo forma parte del Plan Museológico llevado adelante por el Servicio Geológico Minero Argentino (SEGEMAR), con el fin de recuperar y poner en valor una importante colección de rocas, minerales, fósiles, cartografías, fotografías, equipos e instrumentos de exploración, constituida por el Estado argentino a partir de 1890, con la creación del Museo del Departamento Nacional de Minas y Geología. A partir de la revisión de fuentes documentales primarias, se logra describir el origen de este primer Museo, identificando su desenvolvimiento más importante entre 1890 y 1974. Período durante el cual, el área geológica y minera gubernamental logra mantener activo el Museo, con un crecimiento permanente de su colección, debido a la concurrencia de investigadores internacionales, pioneros en la investigación geológica nacional, y a su vez, formadores de los primeros geólogos y geólogas argentinas, estableciendo la primera cátedra de esta especialidad en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. This work is part of the Museum Planning carried out by the Argentine Mining Geological Survey, in order to recover and value an important collection of rocks, minerals, fossils, cartographies, photographs, survey tools and equipment, gathered by Argentine State organizations since 1890, beginning with the creation of the Museum of the National Mining and Geological Department. The review of primary documentary sources allowed us to characterize the origin of this first Museum, whose most important development period took place between 1890 and 1974. During this lapse, the Governmental area for Geology and Mining was able to keep the Museum active, with permanent increase of its collections due to the visits and contributions of international researchers, who pioneered geological research in Argentina and were in turn the trainers of the first local geologists, establishing the first chair to teach this specialty at the University of Buenos Aires. Este trabalho faz parte do Plano Museológico realizado pelo Serviço Geológico Mineiro Argentino (SEGEMAR), com o objetivo de recuperar e valorizar uma importante coleção de rochas, minerais, fósseis, cartografias, fotografias, equipamentos e instrumentos de exploração, constituída pelo Estado argentino a partir de 1890, com a criação do Museu do Departamento Nacional de Minas e Geologia. A partir da revisão de fontes documentais primárias é possível descrever a origem deste primeiro Museu, identificando o seu desenvolvimento mais importante entre 1890 e 1974. Neste período a área geológica e mineira governamental conseguiu manter o Museu ativo, com um crescimento permanente de sua coleção, graças à colaboração de pesquisadores internacionais, pioneiros na pesquisa geológica nacional e, por sua vez, formadores dos primeiros geólogos e geólogas argentinos, estabelecendo a primeira cátedra desta especialidade na Universidade de Buenos Aires.     Como plenarista del V Congreso de la AAHD presenté varias metodologías que aplico a cuestiones literarias de forma experimental. Utilizando de ejemplo un experimento sobre análisis de sentimientos, justifico la necesidad de dar cuenta de los entornos HD multilingües desde mi experiencia bilingüe en los Estados Unidos, dentro de las digital humanities en general y de los talleres en particular para proponer experimentos piloto con metodologías existentes como prototipos para puntos de entrada al análisis de texto en diferentes idiomas. Este artículo no afirma que el método aquí usado sea el mejor enfoque lingüístico o cultural para el análisis de sentimientos de los productos culturales hispanoamericanos. Sin embargo, defiende el potencial de explorar técnicas disponibles para crear espacios más inclusivos en escenarios de aprendizaje rápido y en los que, por norma general, los textos literarios utilizados pertenecen al canon anglosajón.     El pasado 13 de mayo se inauguró la “Exhibición fundamental de arte en los libros de poesía y ficción” curada por Belén Coluccio y Juan Cruz Pedroni en Local de Artes Recientes (LAR). Esta muestra, que pudo visitarse hasta el 10 de junio, propuso derroteros reflexivos sobre algunos hitos de la cultura impresa argentina del siglo XX que profesaron un estrecho vínculo entre la literatura y el arte desde distintas coordenadas. Así, en una apuesta curatorial perspicaz, en la que no estuvo ausente el contacto directo e íntimo, diversos proyectos editoriales salieron al encuentro de los visitantes durante casi un mes. On May 13 the “Exhibición fundamental de arte en los libros de poesía y ficción”, curated by Belén Coluccio and Juan Cruz Pedroni, was inaugurated at Local de Artes Recientes (LAR). This exhibition, which could be visited until June 10, proposed reflective paths on some milestones of Argentine print culture of the 20th century that professed a close link between literature and art from different coordinates.     La moderna historia artístico-institucional argentina tiene un recorrido que se origina en Buenos Aires en 1876 desde una iniciativa particular, con la fundación de la Sociedad Estímulo de Bellas Artes, y que, sólo en 1905, se vuelve nacional con el nacimiento de la Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes. Las investigaciones que han ahondado en este proceso se han enfocado sobre todo en subrayar la continuidad casi biológica entre las dos instituciones; en cambio, este trabajo apunta a destacar el rol que tuvo la constitución de la Comisión Nacional de Bellas Artes (1897) para la configuración de una institución gubernamental de enseñanza artística. The origins of Argentina’s artistic-institutional history can be traced back to the foundation of a private institution, the Sociedad Estímulo de Bellas Artes, in Buenos Aires in 1876; while the National Academy of Fine Arts was not established until 1905. Previous research has mainly focused on the almost organic continuity between the two institutions. In contrast, this paper will emphasize the role played by the establishment of the Comisión Nacional de Bellas Artes (1897) in the formation of a governmental institution for artistic education, which was founded to regulate pensions for artistic studies abroad.     El más reciente libro de Juan Diego Vila, "Furores impresos", nos propone un recorrido por el "Quijote" de 1615 a partir de una serie de trabajos escritos a lo largo de casi dos décadas y recopilados en función de un hilo conductor. Como lo anticipa su título y se asevera luego en la introducción, el volumen indaga -a partir del análisis del texto cervantino- el impacto provocado por el advenimiento de la imprenta en la vida de los lectores y, más específicamente, las lectoras durante la modernidad temprana, así como el lugar que ocupa la literatura en sus vidas y en la constitución de sus subjetividades. Tras el “Prólogo”, escrito magistralmente por Ruth Fine, el minucioso trabajo de Vila se desarrolla a través de doce capítulos, distribuidos en una introducción y cuatro partes de dispar extensión.     La presente propuesta de lectura apuesta a un descentramiento. La incursión crítica en una obra insoslayable de la Literatura Española Moderna y Contemporánea con protocolos exegéticos propios y bien frecuentes del Siglo de Oro español: las estrategias de simbolización y producción de sentidos ancladas en los incipientes discursos humanistas y barrocos sobre la animalidad. Atalaya de sentido que, en gran medida, nutre múltiples abordajes teóricos coetáneos sobre los significados de lo animal en la literatura y en las artes. La escena que orientará nuestras indagaciones podría considerarse marginal en múltiples aspectos: ocurre a tan sólo un capítulo de la conclusión del relato y sobreviene cuando el lector ya sabe de la caída de Ana Ozores. Mas nos resulta evidente que, cual cifra de un sinfín de coordenadas de la novela, lo que contemple y sueñe Víctor Quintanar en las postrimerías de su deshonra trasciende lo estrictamente anecdótico puesto que si bien puede admitirse que la visión de la “falange de cuervos” volando incide en la animalización de las personas y figuras que poblarán su último sueño, no debería pasarse por alto que su evasión de la realidad sobreviene precisamente cuando contempla la única viñeta maternal de toda la novela. Y ello se complejizará más cuando se advierta que la relevancia de estas aves trasciende, con creces, el fragmento espigado pues "La Regenta", en múltiples dimensiones, alienta una meditación sobre la deshumanización de aquellas comunidades señoreadas por los cuervos al tiempo que, en paralelo, bosqueja el infausto y aciago destino de quienes fracasan en el imperativo filiatorio. The present reading proposal bets on a decentering. The critical incursion in an unavoidable work of the Modern and Contemporary Spanish Literature with own and very frequent exegetic protocols of the Spanish Golden Age: the strategies of symbolization and production of senses anchored in the incipient humanist and baroque discourses on animality. A watchtower of meaning that, to a great extent, nourishes multiple contemporary theoretical approaches on the meanings of the animal in literature and the arts. The scene that will guide our inquiries could be considered marginal in many respects: it occurs only one chapter away from the conclusion of the story and happens when the reader already knows about the fall of Ana Ozores. But it is evident to us that, as a cipher of a myriad of coordinates in the novel, what Víctor Quintanar contemplates and dreams of in the final stages of his disgrace transcends the strictly anecdotal, since although it can be admitted that the vision of the "phalanx of crows" flying overhead has an impact on the animalization of the people and figures that will populate his last dream, it should not be overlooked that his evasion of reality occurs precisely when he contemplates the only maternal vignette in the entire novel. And this will become more complex when we realize that the relevance of these birds transcends, by far, the gleaned fragment because La Regenta, in multiple dimensions, encourages a meditation on the dehumanization of those communities dominated by the crows while, in parallel, sketches the ill-fated and fateful destiny of those who fail in the filial imperative.
