    Objective/Context: Sexual violence in Latin America is a topic that national historiographies have addressed with increased intensity since the late twentieth century. This article focuses on the study of sexual crimes (statutory rape, kidnapping, rape, among others) based on the lawsuits filed in Yucatan by the victims or their families in the post-independence period, between 1830 and 1875. The documentation shows that sexual violence had a high incidence in the rural population and affected Mayan girls and women to a greater extent. It also shows that the criminal proceedings resulted in absolution and conviction sentences. Methodology: The article reviews the general bibliography on the subject that has modulated this approach, the legislation on sexual crimes that was in force, and analyzes primary sources, especially judicial records held in the General Archive of the State of Yucatan. Originality: The article is a necessary contribution to elucidate a fundamental problem that has not been sufficiently studied by historiography. The gender perspective guided this text to unravel the characteristics of these sexual assaults and to examine how the criminal processes and the scope of the competent sentences were developed. Conclusions: Through the reviewed documentation, it is possible to draw a tight picture of the behavior of these crimes in Yucatan after independence, to have clues of their characteristics, fundamentally for rape and statutory rape, and the difficulty of discerning them. In this context, midwives’ work in the judicial processes as forensic experts on the physical damages inflicted on the victims is evidenced; likewise, the family consequences derived from these acts and the behavior of the authorities and judges when attending to and judging these crimes are observed.

    The bulletin La Escuela. Boletín de la Asociación Provincial del Magisterio de primera enseñanza [The School: Bulletin of the Provincial Association of Primary Education] is one of the many professional pedagogical publications that appeared in Spain between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Published in Castellón, it was mostly aimed at primary education teachers and it addressed a wide variety of education- related topics. In this work, we carry out a detailed analysis of the mathematics problem section that appeared in the bulletin from 1913 through 1916. Throughout the issues studied, we have identified four different periods in the section, featuring different approaches: problems to be implemented in the classroom or problems meant to engage the participation of the readers. Despite the restrictions involved in publishing graphics and figures in the bulletin, most of the problems are related to geometry, especially to the calculation of areas, volumes and lengths of different geometric figures, which for the most part require the use of algebraic techniques. Furthermore, the algebra used in many of the published solutions exceeds the contents that were studied at Normal Schools (Teacher Training Centers) of that time. The results of our study provide interesting information about the mathematical training of Spanish teachers in a specific historical and geographical context (Spanish provinces during the first quarter of the 20th century) and about the possible impact that this type of section could have had on the educational practice of readers. El boletín La Escuela: Boletín de la Asociación Provincial del Magisterio de primera enseñanza es una de las numerosas publicaciones pedagógicas profesionales que aparecieron en España entre finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. Publicado en Castellón, estaba principalmente dirigido a maestros y maestras de educación primaria y abordaba una amplia variedad de temas relacionados con la educación. En este trabajo, se realiza un análisis detallado de la sección de problemas de matemáticas presente el boletín entre 1913 y 1916. A lo largo de los números estudiados se han identificado cuatro periodos diferentes en dicha sección con distintos enfoques: problemas para llevarlos al aula o problemas para promover la participación de los lectores. A pesar de las restricciones para publicar gráficos y dibujos en el boletín, la mayor parte de los problemas propuestos están relacionados con la geometría, especialmente con el cálculo de áreas, volúmenes y longitudes de distintas figuras geométricas, y se resuelven mayoritariamente con técnicas algebraicas. Además, el álgebra presente en muchas de las soluciones publicadas excede los contenidos que se estudiaban en las Escuelas Normales de esa época. Los resultados de nuestro estudio proporcionan información interesante sobre la formación matemática de los maestros españoles en un contexto histórico y geográfico concreto (la España de provincias del primer cuarto de siglo XX) y sobre el posible impacto que este tipo de secciones pudiera haber tenido sobre la práctica educativa de los lectores.

    Objective/Context: The text proposes a journey through the methodology and work process followed in the Post Scriptum. A Digital Archive of Ordinary Writings (Early Modern in Spain and Portugal) project, which led to the formation of a digital epistolary corpus—now available online—from funds preserved in judicial archives during the Modern Age in the Iberian Peninsula. Based on a practical case, the paper reflects on the reality of the fieldwork carried out in order to build a digital corpus, as well as on its strengths and weaknesses, which allows a first-hand insight of some changes and challenges of the digital revolution we are immersed in. Methodology: Advances in the field of Digital Humanities are taken as a starting point to examine the multidisciplinarity that characterizes both the corpus formation process and the possibilities for its analysis and study. Originality: The paper describes the complete work process involved in the transformation of primary sources into digital sources in an innovative project in the field of Digital Humanities; it also reflects on problems faced by historians in working with private letters produced by common people (sixteenth-nineteenth centuries), which range from the location of these sources to their selection, digitization, editing, treatment, and subsequent study. Conclusions: In addition to describing the process of transforming sources into a digital corpus and the possibilities of its analysis, the article evidences different analytical ways. Likewise, it addresses the wealth of archives as essential repositories for recovering private and ordinary epistolary sources while also reflecting on the future of their conservation in the digital environment.

    Resumen: Objetivo/Contexto: La disolución definitiva de eta en mayo de 2018 ha favorecido la aparición de numerosas publicaciones académicas que abordan el universo discursivo, sobre todo, de víctimas de la sociedad civil o de destacadas personalidades del País Vasco. Así, a través de un ejercicio de historia oral se reconstruye de manera original e inédita el discurso de eta frente a dos acontecimientos que aceleraron su desaparición: los atentados del 11-M de 2004 y la negociación fallida, entre 2005 y 2006, con el Gobierno de Rodríguez Zapatero. Metodología: El análisis de cómo estos dos acontecimientos fueron percibidos por la militancia de eta implica la utilización de nueve entrevistas en profundidad realizadas a destacados integrantes del grupo armado. Estas fueron realizadas a finales de 2018, pocos meses después de la desaparición de eta y sirven para reivindicar la importancia de los testimonios y las fuentes orales. Originalidad: Hasta el momento son muy pocos los trabajos que han analizado este tipo de fuentes, especialmente, por la dificultad de acceder a ellas. De esta manera, y a pesar de que el enfoque de la historia oral no ha sido ajeno a la comprensión de eta, la disolución del grupo terrorista no ha sido abordada desde el testimonio único de sus integrantes. Un aspecto que en las siguientes páginas ocupa un lugar central, al profundizar en cómo sus antiguos integrantes perciben y relatan los acontecimientos que marcaron el fin de eta. Conclusiones: Todos los entrevistados coinciden en señalar cómo los atentados del 11-M representan un punto de inflexión en la pérdida de anclajes en la sociedad vasca. Aun cuando eta pudo disponer de un escenario de diálogo apenas un año después, una posición radical, acrítica, y sin una hoja de ruta clara, perceptible en los relatos de los entrevistados, contribuyó igualmente a desacreditar a un grupo terrorista que solo cinco años después anunciaba el fin de sus acciones armadas. Abstract: Objective/Context: The definitive dissolution of eta in May 2018 has prompted the appearance of numerous academic publications that mainly focus on the discursive universe of victims of civil society or prominent personalities from the Basque Country. Thus, through an oral history exercise, it seeks to reconstruct eta discourse in an original and unprecedented way in the face of two events that accelerated its disappearance: the attacks of March 11, 2004, and the failed negotiation with the Government of Rodríguez Zapatero between 2005 and 2006. Methodology: The analysis of how these two events were perceived by eta activists is based on nine in-depth interviews conducted with prominent members of the armed group. These were carried out at the end of 2018, a few months after the disappearance of eta, and serve to vindicate the importance of testimonies and oral sources. Originality: So far, very few studies have used this type of source, mainly due to their difficult accessibility. Thus, although the oral history approach has not been unfamiliar to the understanding of eta, the dissolution of the terrorist group has not been studied based solely on the testimony of its members, an aspect that occupies a central place in the following pages, when taking a closer look at how former members perceive and relate the events that marked the end of eta. Conclusions: All the interviewees coincide in pointing out how the 11-M attacks represent a turning point that resulted in the loss of anchors in Basque society. Even though eta was able to arrange a dialogue scenario just a year later, a radical, uncritical position, without a clear roadmap-which is perceptible in the interviewees’ accounts-contributed to discrediting a terrorist group that only five years later announced the end of their armed actions. Resumo: Objetivo/Contexto: A dissolução definitiva do eta em maio de 2018 favoreceu o surgimento de numerosas publicações acadêmicas que abordam o universo discursivo principalmente de vítimas da sociedade civil ou de destacadas personalidades do País Vasco. Assim, a partir de um exercício de história oral, é reconstruída de maneira original e inédita o discurso do eta ante a dois acontecimentos que aceleraram seu desaparecimento: os atentados do 11-M de 2004 e a negociação fracassada, entre 2005 e 2006, com o governo de Rodríguez Zapatero. Metodologia: A análise de como esses dois acontecimentos foram percebidos pela militância do eta implica a utilização de nove entrevistas em profundidade realizadas a destacados integrantes do grupo armado. Estas foram realizadas no final de 2018, poucos meses depois do desaparecimento do eta e servem para reivindicar a importância dos depoimentos e das fontes orais. Originalidade: Até o momento, são escassos os trabalhos que analisam esse tipo de fontes, especialmente pela dificuldade de ter acesso a elas. Dessa maneira e apesar de a abordagem da história oral não ter sido alheia à compreensão do eta, a dissolução do grupo terrorista não vem sendo abordada sob o testemunho único de suas integrantes. Um aspecto que, nas seguintes páginas, ocupa um lugar central, ao aprofundar em como seus antigos integrantes percebem e relatam os acontecimentos que marcaram o fim do eta. Conclusões: Todos os entrevistados coincidem em indicar como os atentados do 11-M representam um ponto de inflexão na perda de estabilidade na sociedade vasca. Ainda quando o eta pôde dispor de um cenário de diálogo apenas um ano depois, uma posição radical, acrítica e sem uma rota clara, perceptível nos relatos dos entrevistados, contribuiu igualmente para desacreditar um grupo terrorista que somente cinco anos depois anunciava o fim de suas ações armadas.

Objetivo/Contexto: Este artículo busca comprender las características y alcances políticos del proceso que permitió la adopción de niños chilenos por parte de padres suecos durante la dictadura militar en Chile. Metodología: La investigación se basa en la revisión de documentación diplomática correspondiente a la Embajada chilena en Suecia, en particular, informes que describieron la difusión de la imagen de Chile y su infancia en los medios de comunicación suecos entre 1973 y 1990. Además, fueron consultados informes, publicaciones periódicas y oficios que manifestaron la reacción de las autoridades chilenas ante la crítica de la prensa sueca por irregularidades en las adopciones de niños. Originalidad: El marco político y diplomático de regulación de las adopciones internacionales bajo el contexto de dictaduras militares en América Latina ha sido débilmente abordado desde las humanidades y ciencias sociales, pues el interés se ha centrado en el estudio de la búsqueda de orígenes por parte de personas adoptadas y sus familias biológicas. De ahí se desprende el aporte de este trabajo a la historiografía de las adopciones, en tanto nos enfocamos en una dimensión política y diplomática del fenómeno, así como en los alcances de los mecanismos forzados de circulación de niños hacia países del primer mundo y en políticas de regulación de la infancia y la familia. Conclusiones: A partir de la documentación revisada, es factible concluir que las adopciones de niños chilenos por parte de familias suecas se inscriben en una campaña de promoción de la adopción por parte de la dictadura militar, que operó como contrapropaganda para frenar la “campaña antichilena” en Suecia y recuperar vínculos internacionales. Abstract. Objective/Context: This article seeks to understand the characteristics and political implications of the process that allowed the adoption of Chilean children by Swedish parents during the military dictatorship in Chile. Methodology: The research is based on the review of diplomatic documentation corresponding to the Chilean Embassy in Sweden, specifically on reports that described the dissemination of the image of Chile and its children in the Swedish media between 1973 and 1990. In addition, reports, periodicals, and official records were consulted that expressed the reaction of the Chilean authorities to criticism received from the Swedish press for irregularities in the adoptions of children. Originality: The political and diplomatic framework for the regulation of international adoptions in the context of military dictatorships in Latin America has been poorly addressed from the humanities and social sciences since interest has been focused on the search for origins by adopted people and their biological families. Hence, this work’s contribution to the historiography of adoptions lies in its focus on the political and diplomatic dimensions of the phenomenon, on the scope of forced mechanisms in the circulation of children to first world countries, as well as on regulatory policies regarding children and family. Conclusions: Based on the revised documentation, it is feasible to conclude that the adoptions of Chilean children by Swedish families were part of a campaign of the military dictatorship to promote adoption, which worked as a counter-propaganda to stop “anti-Chilean campaign” in Sweden, as well as to recover international ties. Objetivo/Contexto: Neste artigo, pretende-se compreender as características e os alcances políticos do processo que permitiu a adoção de crianças chilenas por parte de famílias suecas durante a ditadura militar no Chile. Metodologia: A pesquisa está baseada na revisão de documentação diplomática correspondente à embaixada chilena na Suécia, em particular, relatórios que descreveram a difusão da imagem do Chile e sua infância nos meios de comunicação suecos entre 1973 e 1990. Além disso, foram consultados relatórios, publicações jornalísticas e ofícios que manifestaram a reação das autoridades chilenas ante a crítica da imprensa sueca por irregularidades nas adoções de crianças. Originalidade: O âmbito político e diplomático de regulamentação das adoções internacionais sob o contexto de ditaduras militares na América Latina vem sendo abordado de forma deficiente a partir das Humanas e das Ciências Sociais, pois o interesse vem se centrando no estudo da busca de origens por parte de pessoas adotadas e suas famílias biológicas. Disso, é derivada a contribuição deste trabalho para a historiografia das adoções, enquanto nos enfocamos em uma dimensão política e diplomática do fenômeno, bem como nos alcances dos mecanismos forçados de circulação de crianças a países do primeiro mundo e em políticas de regulamentação da infância e da família. Conclusões: a partir da documentação revisada, é possível concluir que as adoções de crianças chilenas por parte de famílias suecas estão vinculadas a uma campanha de promoção da adoção por parte da ditadura militar, que operou como contrapropaganda para frear a “campanha antichilena” na Suécia e recuperar relações internacionais.

    Resumen. Objetivo/Contexto: el presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar las dos cartas pastorales publicadas por el episcopado vasco en 1981 y 1982 en contra de la política autonómica del gobierno de Unión de Centro Democrático (ucd) y examinar su repercusión en los partidos políticos españoles, en los principales diarios de tirada nacional y también su impacto fuera de España. En la primera carta se trataba la relación entre golpismo y terrorismo; y en la segunda se manifestaba una radical oposición a la Ley Orgánica de Armonización del Proceso Autonómico (loapa) promovida conjuntamente por el ejecutivo y por la oposición socialista. Metodología: la metodología se basa en un análisis de contenido de corte cualitativo de la prensa escrita y en el estudio de fuentes de archivo. Originalidad: el texto revisa dos documentos que no han sido analizados de manera monográfica a pesar de los estudios existentes sobre la Iglesia católica y el terrorismo vasco. La polémica política y mediática, nacional e internacional, desatada por su publicación arroja nueva luz sobre las dificultades a las que se enfrentó el último presidente del gobierno de ucd, Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, para articular el nuevo Estado de las autonomías, en medio de la escalada terrorista etarra. Conclusiones: las principales conclusiones revelan que el discurso de los obispos, en sintonía con el nacionalismo vasco, muestra la división que eta había producido en el seno de la sociedad vasca y española, y pone de relieve la dificultad existente para articular un discurso unitario en contra del terror. Abstract. Objective/Context: this article has the goal of analyzing the two pastoral letters published by the Basque episcopate in 1981 and 1982 against the autonomic policy of the Union of the Democratic Center (ucd) government and examines their repercussion in Spanish political parties, in the top national dailies and their impact outside of Spain as well. The first letter dealt with the relation between putschism and terrorism. The second expressed a radical opposition to the Organic Law on the Harmonization of the Autonomy Process (loapa) jointly promoted by the executive and the Socialist opposition. Methodology: the methodology is based on a qualitative content analysis of the written press and in the study of archival sources. Originality: the text reviews two documents that have not been analyzed in a monographic fashion despite existing studies about Catholic Church and Basque terrorism. The national and international political and media controversy unleashed by their publication sheds novel insight on the difficulties the last President of the ucd Government, Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, faced in articulating the new State of Autonomies amid the Etarra terrorist escalation. Conclusions: the main findings reveal that the bishops' discourse, in tune with Basque nationalism, shows the division that eta had produced inside Basque and Spanish society and highlights the difficulty in articulating a unified discourse against terror. Objetivo/Contexto: o objetivo deste artigo é analisar as duas cartas pastorais publicadas pela diocese vasco em 1981 e 1982 contra a política autônoma do governo de Unión de Centro Democrático (ucd) e examinar sua repercussão nos partidos políticos espanhóis, nos principais jornais de tiragem nacional e seu impacto fora da Espanha. Na primeira carta, a relação entre golpismo e terrorismo era tratada; na segunda, manifestava uma radical oposição à Lei Orgânica de Harmonização do Processo Autônomo promovida conjuntamente pelo executivo e pela oposição socialista. Metodologia: a metodologia está baseada em uma análise de conteúdo de corte qualitativo da imprensa escrita e no estudo de fontes de arquivo. Originalidade: o texto revisa dois documentos que ainda não foram revisados de maneira monográfica, apesar dos estudos existentes sobre a Igreja católica e o terrorismo vasco. A polêmica política e midiática, nacional e internacional, desencadeada por sua publicação, traz novos esclarecimentos sobre as dificuldades que o último presidente do governo de ucd, Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, enfrentou para articular o novo Estado das autonomias, em meio da escalada da organização terrorista eta. Conclusões: as principais conclusões revelam que o discurso dos bispos, em consonância com o nacionalismo vasco, mostra a divisão que a eta tinha produzido no seio da sociedade vasca e espanhola, e destaca a dificuldade existente para articular um discurso unitário contra o terrorismo.

    Resumen. Objetivo/Contexto: cuando el franquismo vivía sus últimos años, la onu declaró 1975 el Año Internacional de la Mujer y fijó la ciudad de México como sede del evento. Conscientes de su impacto mundial y como Estado miembro de la onu desde 1955, la dictadura española estuvo presente en dicho foro. Esta investigación estudia la cobertura que la televisión pública española (tve) dio al primer Año Internacional de la Mujer y al congreso de México a través del programa Informe Semanal, el más innovador del franquismo y uno de los más seguidos por la audiencia. Metodología: mediante un análisis de contenido cualitativo de los programas relacionados con la efeméride, las entrevistas en profundidad a periodistas implicados en la elaboración de los contenidos y el apoyo de otras fuentes secundarias, se analiza el enfoque que se ofreció y se dirime si se optó por un discurso cercano a la postura oficial o por otro, antagónico a aquel, más próximo al movimiento feminista, que permitió ejercer una labor férrea de oposición a la dictadura desde la televisión pública. Originalidad: el trabajo permite aproximarse al cambio político y social vivido en España en los setenta desde una perspectiva novedosa que conecta este caso con el papel de la televisión como plataforma de las voces y las agendas feministas. Conclusiones: el Año Internacional impulsó la lucha feminista en España e Informe Semanal se convirtió en una plataforma difusora de conceptualizaciones igualitarias a una audiencia heterogénea y numerosa a la que de otra forma el feminismo no hubiera podido acceder en un contexto dictatorial. Abstract. Objective/Context: during the last years of Franco’s dictatorship, the un declared 1975 International Women's Year and chose Mexico City to host the event. Aware of its world impact as a un member State since 1955, the Spanish dictatorship was present at this forum. This investigation studies the coverage Spanish public television (tve) gave to the first International Women's Year and the Mexico congress through Informe Semanal, Francoist's most innovative show and one of those most watched by the audience. Methodology: through qualitative content analysis of the tv shows related to the event, in-depth interviews of journalists involved in the development of the content, and the support of other secondary sources, we analyze the focus that was offered and determine whether there was a choice made for a narrative close to the official position, or another, opposed to the former, closer to the feminist movement, which allowed exercising strong push-back to the dictatorship from public television. Originality: the work allows approaching the political and social change experienced in Spain in the seventies from an innovative viewpoint that connects this case with the role of television as a platform for feminist voices and agendas. Conclusions: the International Year drove the feminist struggle in Spain and Informe Semanal became a platform that broadcasted egalitarian notions to a heterogeneous and numerous audience, which feminism would not otherwise have reached in a dictatorial context. Consciente de seu impacto mundial e como Estado-membro da onu desde 1955, a ditadura espanhola esteve presente nesse fórum. Esta pesquisa estuda a cobertura que a televisão pública espanhola (tve) deu ao primeiro Ano Internacional da Mulher e ao congresso do México por meio do programa Informe Semanal, o mais inovador do franquismo e um dos mais seguidos pela audiência. Metodologia: mediante uma análise de conteúdo qualitativa dos programas relacionados com o acontecimento, entrevistas em profundidade a jornalistas envolvidos na elaboração dos conteúdos e apoio de outras fontes secundárias, analisa-se a abordagem oferecida e se se optou por um discurso próximo ao posicionamento oficial ou por outro, antagônico àquele, mais próximo do movimento feminista, que permitiu exercer um trabalho árduo de oposição à ditadura a partir da televisão pública. Originalidade: este trabalho permite aproximar-se da mudança política e social vivida na Espanha nos 1970, sob uma perspectiva nova, que conecta esse caso com o papel da televisão como plataforma das vozes e das agendas feministas. Conclusões: o Ano Internacional impulsionou a luta feminista na Espanha, e o programa Informe Semanal se tornou uma plataforma difusora de conceituações igualitárias a uma audiência heterogênea e numerosa, à qual, de outra forma, o feminismo não teria conseguido atingir em um contexto ditatorial.

    RESUMEN Objetivo/Contexto : El artículo argumenta que los pleitos por matrimonios desiguales en la Provincia de Antioquia, a finales del siglo XVIII, pusieron en evidencia las dimensiones emocionales del Imperio español al mostrar las estrategias en el lenguaje, las prácticas y los dilemas de aquellas personas involucradas en estos procesos judiciales, que buscaban moverse por los límites de un imperio emocional. A través de políticas como la Pragmática Sanción de 1776 y la Real Cédula de 1778, para evitar los matrimonios desiguales en España y en las colonias en América, el Imperio buscaba mantener y vigilar el orden social por medio del control de sentimientos morales como el honor. Metodología: Se hará un análisis sobre cómo funcionaban los mecanismos judiciales y la colaboración eclesiástica en los casos de los pleitos por matrimonios desiguales. Luego se debatirá cómo y quién establecía la desigualdad o igualdad de aquellos que deseaban contraer matrimonio. Y, por último, cómo el concepto del honor estructuraba un imperio emocional, encabezado en la figura del Rey como padre. La investigación se sustenta en el análisis de los pleitos por “matrimonios desiguales” en Antioquia a finales del siglo XVIII y en la bibliografía secundaria sobre la familia, la vida pública y privada de América hispana en el siglo XVIII, y la historiografía de los sentimientos morales. Originalidad: El artículo contribuye a trascender las barreras historiográficas al proponer que los sentimientos morales atraviesan los ámbitos de la política, la economía y la vida pública y privada. Se resalta que el Imperio español de finales del siglo XVIII funcionó a partir de un régimen emocional del honor. Conclusiones: Se concluye que el Imperio español funcionó como un régimen emocional, en el cual el honor fue estructurante de la política y las relaciones entre los súbditos y el Rey. ABSTRACT Objective/Context: The article argues that the lawsuits for unequal marriages in the Province of Antioquia, at the end of the 18th century, highlighted the emotional dimensions of the Spanish Empire by showing the strategies in language, practices, and dilemmas of those involved in these judicial proceedings, who sought to move within the limits of an emotional empire. Through policies such as the Pragmática Sanción of 1776 and the Real Cédula of 1778, to fend off unequal marriages in Spain and the colonies in America, the Empire endeavored to maintain and monitor the social order by controlling moral sentiments such as honor. Methodology: An analysis is made of how judicial mechanisms and ecclesiastical collaboration worked in cases of lawsuits for unequal marriages. Next, we debate how and who established the inequality or equality of those who wanted to marry. The concept of honor structuring an emotional empire, with the figure of the King as the father, brings us to a close. The research stems from an analysis of “unequal marriage” lawsuits in Antioquia at the end of the 18th century and the secondary bibliography about the family, the public and private life of Hispanic America in the 18th century, and the historiography of moral sentiments. Originality: The article contributes to transcending historiographic barriers by proposing that moral sentiments are crosscutting to the spheres of politics, the economy, and public and private life. We highlight that the Spanish Empire at the end of the 18th century functioned on the basis of an emotional regime of honor. Conclusions: We conclude that the Spanish Empire operated as an emotional regime, in which honor was the structuring element of the politics and the relations between the subjects and the King. RESUMO Objetivo/Contexto: este artigo argumenta que as ações judiciais por casamentos desiguais na Província de Antioquia, Colômbia, no final do século XVIII, evidenciaram as dimensões emocionais do Império espanhol ao mostrarem as estratégias na linguagem, práticas e dilemas das pessoas envolvidas nos processos judiciais, as quais procuravam se mover nos limites de um império emocional. Por meio de políticas como a Pragmática Sanção de 1776 e a Real Cédula de 1778, para evitar casamentos desiguais na Espanha e nas colônias na América, o Império buscava manter e vigiar a ordem social mediante o controle de sentimentos morais como a honra. Metodologia: é feita uma análise sobre como os mecanismos judiciais e a colaboração eclesiástica nas ações judiciais por casamentos desiguais. Em seguida, é debatido como e quem estabelecia a desigualdade ou igualdade dos que desejavam se casar. Por último, como o conceito de honra estruturava um império emocional, liderado pela figura do Rei como pai. A pesquisa está apoiada na análise das ações judiciais por “casamentos desiguais” na Antioquia no final do século XVIII e na bibliografia secundária sobre a família, a vida pública e privada da América hispânica no século XVIII, e a historiografia dos sentimentos morais. Originalidade: este artigo contribui para transcender as barreiras historiográficas ao propor que os sentimentos morais atravessam os âmbitos da política, da economia e da vida pública e privada. É ressaltado que o Império espanhol do final do referido século funcionou a partir de um regimente emocional da honra. Conclusões: conclui-se que o império espanhol funcionou como um regime emocional, no qual a honra foi estruturante da política e das relações entre os súditos e o Rei.

    Objetivo/Contexto: Los conflictos sociales provocados por la contaminación atmosférica dan lugar a un intenso debate sobre la salud en las cuencas de minerales no ferrosos europeas y norteamericanas durante el siglo XIX. Los especialistas contemporáneos los consideraban un problema de salud pública porque afectaban a toda la comunidad minera, pues englobaban lo que hoy denominamos riesgos ambientales y profesionales. Este artículo analiza la regulación institucional y las soluciones científicas y técnicas aplicadas a partir de un estudio de casos seleccionados. Sin embargo, en la primera mitad del siglo XX los problemas de salud asociados a los humos mineros evolucionan hasta convertirse en una cuestión de higiene industrial circunscrita, por ello, al ámbito laboral. En esa evolución tiene mucho que ver el papel que desempeñan los distintos actores en juego, particularmente las grandes corporaciones. Metodología: Esta investigación de carácter comparativo en el tiempo y en el espacio se aborda tanto a partir de un análisis de bibliografía actual como de fuentes contemporáneas. Originalidad: La contaminación atmosférica en la mina desencadenó un proceso de innovaciones institucionales, científicas y técnicas estrechamente relacionadas entre sí. El debate suscitado se internacionalizó, pues se extendió desde finales del siglo XIX desde las grandes cuencas europeas hasta las americanas. Conclusiones: La controversia sobre los humos dividió profundamente las cuencas de minerales no ferrosos de Europa, Estados Unidos y Canadá, y la ciencia sirvió de apoyo a las medidas institucionales y técnicas implementadas. En ese proceso, las empresas mineras tuvieron la capacidad de adaptar con éxito la ciencia a sus necesidades, en especial desde finales del siglo XIX. Objective/context: Social conflicts caused by air pollution gave rise to an intense debate around health in the European and North American non-ferrous mineral basins during the 19th century. Contemporary scholars classified it as a public health problem, since it ultimately affected the entire mining community, encompassing what we know today as environmental and occupational hazards. This article uses selected case studies to analyze institutional regulations, and the scientific and technical solutions that were applied in response to them. However, in the first half of the twentieth century, health problems associated with smelter smoke evolved to become an industrial hygiene issue and were therefore limited to the field of industrial relations. Institutional, scientific and technical factors behind this change are closely related to the role of the social agents concerned, particularly large corporations. Methodology: This research, which is comparative from a temporal and spatial perspective, relies on an analysis of both current literature and contemporary sources. Originality: Air pollution derived from mining activities triggered a process of closely interrelated institutional, scientific and technical innovations. In the late nineteenth century, the ensuing debate became international, spreading from European to American mining basins. Conclusions: The smelter smoke controversy deeply divided the non-ferrous mineral basins of Europe, the United States and Canada, and science provided the foundation for the institutional and technical measures implemented to address it. In that process, particularly since the late nineteenth century, mining companies developed the capacity to successfully adapt the science to their needs.

    [ES] El artículo estudia el concepto continental de indio difundido por los indigenistas que a mediados del siglo XX participan en la configuración del campo indigenista americano. Originalidad: Contra la idea común de que indio es una categoría colonial, plantea la hipótesis de que el concepto que se consolida en el siglo XX sería el resultado de una configuración típicamente contemporánea. Metodología: Se fundamenta en un análisis de fuentes primarias impresas inexploradas, según un enfoque transnacional que destaca la participación de indigenistas de distinta procedencia y origen en la búsqueda de una noción continental de indio. Conclusiones: El análisis muestra cómo el aporte indigenista refuerza un proceso de singularización y abstracción de este concepto, enfatizando además la adscripción temporal del indio y una historia de dominación y explotación con efectos hasta el presente. A pesar de que el indio americano se conforma gracias a elementos típicamente contemporáneos, los indigenistas defienden la idea de que es una “categoría colonial”, determinada por una herencia colonial (con efecto en el “carácter”) y por la persistencia de una situación/relación colonial. Esta resignificación indigenista representaría un importante legado para desarrollos posteriores, al establecer la experiencia de colonización como elemento imprescindible para definir al indio [EN] The article studies the continental concept of Indian disseminated by the indigenistas who, in the mid-twentieth century, were shaping a Pan-American indigenista field. Originality: Against the common idea that Indian is a colonial category, it suggests that the twentieth century characterization of the Indian was a typically modern creation. Methodology: It is based on an analysis of unexplored printed primary sources, from a transnational approach that highlights the participation of indigenistas of different backgrounds and origins in the search for a continental notion of Indian. Conclusions: The analysis shows how the indigenista contribution reinforces an ongoing process of singularization and abstraction of this concept, also emphasizing the temporary ascription of the Indian and a history of domination and exploitation with effects up to the present day. Although this “Indian of the Americas” is shaped by typically modern elements, indigenistas defend the idea that it is a “colonial category”, determined by a colonial heritage (with effects on “character”) and by the persistence of a colonial situation/relationship.     Objective/Context: Sexual violence in Latin America is a topic that national historiographies have addressed with increased intensity since the late twentieth century. This article focuses on the study of sexual crimes (statutory rape, kidnapping, rape, among others) based on the lawsuits filed in Yucatan by the victims or their families in the post-independence period, between 1830 and 1875. The documentation shows that sexual violence had a high incidence in the rural population and affected Mayan girls and women to a greater extent. It also shows that the criminal proceedings resulted in absolution and conviction sentences. Methodology: The article reviews the general bibliography on the subject that has modulated this approach, the legislation on sexual crimes that was in force, and analyzes primary sources, especially judicial records held in the General Archive of the State of Yucatan. Originality: The article is a necessary contribution to elucidate a fundamental problem that has not been sufficiently studied by historiography. The gender perspective guided this text to unravel the characteristics of these sexual assaults and to examine how the criminal processes and the scope of the competent sentences were developed. Conclusions: Through the reviewed documentation, it is possible to draw a tight picture of the behavior of these crimes in Yucatan after independence, to have clues of their characteristics, fundamentally for rape and statutory rape, and the difficulty of discerning them. In this context, midwives’ work in the judicial processes as forensic experts on the physical damages inflicted on the victims is evidenced; likewise, the family consequences derived from these acts and the behavior of the authorities and judges when attending to and judging these crimes are observed.

    The bulletin La Escuela. Boletín de la Asociación Provincial del Magisterio de primera enseñanza [The School: Bulletin of the Provincial Association of Primary Education] is one of the many professional pedagogical publications that appeared in Spain between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Published in Castellón, it was mostly aimed at primary education teachers and it addressed a wide variety of education- related topics. In this work, we carry out a detailed analysis of the mathematics problem section that appeared in the bulletin from 1913 through 1916. Throughout the issues studied, we have identified four different periods in the section, featuring different approaches: problems to be implemented in the classroom or problems meant to engage the participation of the readers. Despite the restrictions involved in publishing graphics and figures in the bulletin, most of the problems are related to geometry, especially to the calculation of areas, volumes and lengths of different geometric figures, which for the most part require the use of algebraic techniques. Furthermore, the algebra used in many of the published solutions exceeds the contents that were studied at Normal Schools (Teacher Training Centers) of that time. The results of our study provide interesting information about the mathematical training of Spanish teachers in a specific historical and geographical context (Spanish provinces during the first quarter of the 20th century) and about the possible impact that this type of section could have had on the educational practice of readers. El boletín La Escuela: Boletín de la Asociación Provincial del Magisterio de primera enseñanza es una de las numerosas publicaciones pedagógicas profesionales que aparecieron en España entre finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. Publicado en Castellón, estaba principalmente dirigido a maestros y maestras de educación primaria y abordaba una amplia variedad de temas relacionados con la educación. En este trabajo, se realiza un análisis detallado de la sección de problemas de matemáticas presente el boletín entre 1913 y 1916. A lo largo de los números estudiados se han identificado cuatro periodos diferentes en dicha sección con distintos enfoques: problemas para llevarlos al aula o problemas para promover la participación de los lectores. A pesar de las restricciones para publicar gráficos y dibujos en el boletín, la mayor parte de los problemas propuestos están relacionados con la geometría, especialmente con el cálculo de áreas, volúmenes y longitudes de distintas figuras geométricas, y se resuelven mayoritariamente con técnicas algebraicas. Además, el álgebra presente en muchas de las soluciones publicadas excede los contenidos que se estudiaban en las Escuelas Normales de esa época. Los resultados de nuestro estudio proporcionan información interesante sobre la formación matemática de los maestros españoles en un contexto histórico y geográfico concreto (la España de provincias del primer cuarto de siglo XX) y sobre el posible impacto que este tipo de secciones pudiera haber tenido sobre la práctica educativa de los lectores.

    Objective/Context: The text proposes a journey through the methodology and work process followed in the Post Scriptum. A Digital Archive of Ordinary Writings (Early Modern in Spain and Portugal) project, which led to the formation of a digital epistolary corpus—now available online—from funds preserved in judicial archives during the Modern Age in the Iberian Peninsula. Based on a practical case, the paper reflects on the reality of the fieldwork carried out in order to build a digital corpus, as well as on its strengths and weaknesses, which allows a first-hand insight of some changes and challenges of the digital revolution we are immersed in. Methodology: Advances in the field of Digital Humanities are taken as a starting point to examine the multidisciplinarity that characterizes both the corpus formation process and the possibilities for its analysis and study. Originality: The paper describes the complete work process involved in the transformation of primary sources into digital sources in an innovative project in the field of Digital Humanities; it also reflects on problems faced by historians in working with private letters produced by common people (sixteenth-nineteenth centuries), which range from the location of these sources to their selection, digitization, editing, treatment, and subsequent study. Conclusions: In addition to describing the process of transforming sources into a digital corpus and the possibilities of its analysis, the article evidences different analytical ways. Likewise, it addresses the wealth of archives as essential repositories for recovering private and ordinary epistolary sources while also reflecting on the future of their conservation in the digital environment.

    Resumen: Objetivo/Contexto: La disolución definitiva de eta en mayo de 2018 ha favorecido la aparición de numerosas publicaciones académicas que abordan el universo discursivo, sobre todo, de víctimas de la sociedad civil o de destacadas personalidades del País Vasco. Así, a través de un ejercicio de historia oral se reconstruye de manera original e inédita el discurso de eta frente a dos acontecimientos que aceleraron su desaparición: los atentados del 11-M de 2004 y la negociación fallida, entre 2005 y 2006, con el Gobierno de Rodríguez Zapatero. Metodología: El análisis de cómo estos dos acontecimientos fueron percibidos por la militancia de eta implica la utilización de nueve entrevistas en profundidad realizadas a destacados integrantes del grupo armado. Estas fueron realizadas a finales de 2018, pocos meses después de la desaparición de eta y sirven para reivindicar la importancia de los testimonios y las fuentes orales. Originalidad: Hasta el momento son muy pocos los trabajos que han analizado este tipo de fuentes, especialmente, por la dificultad de acceder a ellas. De esta manera, y a pesar de que el enfoque de la historia oral no ha sido ajeno a la comprensión de eta, la disolución del grupo terrorista no ha sido abordada desde el testimonio único de sus integrantes. Un aspecto que en las siguientes páginas ocupa un lugar central, al profundizar en cómo sus antiguos integrantes perciben y relatan los acontecimientos que marcaron el fin de eta. Conclusiones: Todos los entrevistados coinciden en señalar cómo los atentados del 11-M representan un punto de inflexión en la pérdida de anclajes en la sociedad vasca. Aun cuando eta pudo disponer de un escenario de diálogo apenas un año después, una posición radical, acrítica, y sin una hoja de ruta clara, perceptible en los relatos de los entrevistados, contribuyó igualmente a desacreditar a un grupo terrorista que solo cinco años después anunciaba el fin de sus acciones armadas. Abstract: Objective/Context: The definitive dissolution of eta in May 2018 has prompted the appearance of numerous academic publications that mainly focus on the discursive universe of victims of civil society or prominent personalities from the Basque Country. Thus, through an oral history exercise, it seeks to reconstruct eta discourse in an original and unprecedented way in the face of two events that accelerated its disappearance: the attacks of March 11, 2004, and the failed negotiation with the Government of Rodríguez Zapatero between 2005 and 2006. Methodology: The analysis of how these two events were perceived by eta activists is based on nine in-depth interviews conducted with prominent members of the armed group. These were carried out at the end of 2018, a few months after the disappearance of eta, and serve to vindicate the importance of testimonies and oral sources. Originality: So far, very few studies have used this type of source, mainly due to their difficult accessibility. Thus, although the oral history approach has not been unfamiliar to the understanding of eta, the dissolution of the terrorist group has not been studied based solely on the testimony of its members, an aspect that occupies a central place in the following pages, when taking a closer look at how former members perceive and relate the events that marked the end of eta. Conclusions: All the interviewees coincide in pointing out how the 11-M attacks represent a turning point that resulted in the loss of anchors in Basque society. Even though eta was able to arrange a dialogue scenario just a year later, a radical, uncritical position, without a clear roadmap-which is perceptible in the interviewees’ accounts-contributed to discrediting a terrorist group that only five years later announced the end of their armed actions. Assim, a partir de um exercício de história oral, é reconstruída de maneira original e inédita o discurso do eta ante a dois acontecimentos que aceleraram seu desaparecimento: os atentados do 11-M de 2004 e a negociação fracassada, entre 2005 e 2006, com o governo de Rodríguez Zapatero. Metodologia: A análise de como esses dois acontecimentos foram percebidos pela militância do eta implica a utilização de nove entrevistas em profundidade realizadas a destacados integrantes do grupo armado. Estas foram realizadas no final de 2018, poucos meses depois do desaparecimento do eta e servem para reivindicar a importância dos depoimentos e das fontes orais. Originalidade: Até o momento, são escassos os trabalhos que analisam esse tipo de fontes, especialmente pela dificuldade de ter acesso a elas. Dessa maneira e apesar de a abordagem da história oral não ter sido alheia à compreensão do eta, a dissolução do grupo terrorista não vem sendo abordada sob o testemunho único de suas integrantes. Um aspecto que, nas seguintes páginas, ocupa um lugar central, ao aprofundar em como seus antigos integrantes percebem e relatam os acontecimentos que marcaram o fim do eta. Conclusões: Todos os entrevistados coincidem em indicar como os atentados do 11-M representam um ponto de inflexão na perda de estabilidade na sociedade vasca. Ainda quando o eta pôde dispor de um cenário de diálogo apenas um ano depois, uma posição radical, acrítica e sem uma rota clara, perceptível nos relatos dos entrevistados, contribuiu igualmente para desacreditar um grupo terrorista que somente cinco anos depois anunciava o fim de suas ações armadas.

    Resumen. Objetivo/Contexto: Este artículo busca comprender las características y alcances políticos del proceso que permitió la adopción de niños chilenos por parte de padres suecos durante la dictadura militar en Chile. Metodología: La investigación se basa en la revisión de documentación diplomática correspondiente a la Embajada chilena en Suecia, en particular, informes que describieron la difusión de la imagen de Chile y su infancia en los medios de comunicación suecos entre 1973 y 1990. Además, fueron consultados informes, publicaciones periódicas y oficios que manifestaron la reacción de las autoridades chilenas ante la crítica de la prensa sueca por irregularidades en las adopciones de niños. Originalidad: El marco político y diplomático de regulación de las adopciones internacionales bajo el contexto de dictaduras militares en América Latina ha sido débilmente abordado desde las humanidades y ciencias sociales, pues el interés se ha centrado en el estudio de la búsqueda de orígenes por parte de personas adoptadas y sus familias biológicas. De ahí se desprende el aporte de este trabajo a la historiografía de las adopciones, en tanto nos enfocamos en una dimensión política y diplomática del fenómeno, así como en los alcances de los mecanismos forzados de circulación de niños hacia países del primer mundo y en políticas de regulación de la infancia y la familia. Conclusiones: A partir de la documentación revisada, es factible concluir que las adopciones de niños chilenos por parte de familias suecas se inscriben en una campaña de promoción de la adopción por parte de la dictadura militar, que operó como contrapropaganda para frenar la “campaña antichilena” en Suecia y recuperar vínculos internacionales. Objective/Context: This article seeks to understand the characteristics and political implications of the process that allowed the adoption of Chilean children by Swedish parents during the military dictatorship in Chile. Methodology: The research is based on the review of diplomatic documentation corresponding to the Chilean Embassy in Sweden, specifically on reports that described the dissemination of the image of Chile and its children in the Swedish media between 1973 and 1990. In addition, reports, periodicals, and official records were consulted that expressed the reaction of the Chilean authorities to criticism received from the Swedish press for irregularities in the adoptions of children. Originality: The political and diplomatic framework for the regulation of international adoptions in the context of military dictatorships in Latin America has been poorly addressed from the humanities and social sciences since interest has been focused on the search for origins by adopted people and their biological families. Hence, this work’s contribution to the historiography of adoptions lies in its focus on the political and diplomatic dimensions of the phenomenon, on the scope of forced mechanisms in the circulation of children to first world countries, as well as on regulatory policies regarding children and family. Conclusions: Based on the revised documentation, it is feasible to conclude that the adoptions of Chilean children by Swedish families were part of a campaign of the military dictatorship to promote adoption, which worked as a counter-propaganda to stop “anti-Chilean campaign” in Sweden, as well as to recover international ties. Objetivo/Contexto: Neste artigo, pretende-se compreender as características e os alcances políticos do processo que permitiu a adoção de crianças chilenas por parte de famílias suecas durante a ditadura militar no Chile. Metodologia: A pesquisa está baseada na revisão de documentação diplomática correspondente à embaixada chilena na Suécia, em particular, relatórios que descreveram a difusão da imagem do Chile e sua infância nos meios de comunicação suecos entre 1973 e 1990. Além disso, foram consultados relatórios, publicações jornalísticas e ofícios que manifestaram a reação das autoridades chilenas ante a crítica da imprensa sueca por irregularidades nas adoções de crianças. Originalidade: O âmbito político e diplomático de regulamentação das adoções internacionais sob o contexto de ditaduras militares na América Latina vem sendo abordado de forma deficiente a partir das Humanas e das Ciências Sociais, pois o interesse vem se centrando no estudo da busca de origens por parte de pessoas adotadas e suas famílias biológicas. Disso, é derivada a contribuição deste trabalho para a historiografia das adoções, enquanto nos enfocamos em uma dimensão política e diplomática do fenômeno, bem como nos alcances dos mecanismos forçados de circulação de crianças a países do primeiro mundo e em políticas de regulamentação da infância e da família. Conclusões: a partir da documentação revisada, é possível concluir que as adoções de crianças chilenas por parte de famílias suecas estão vinculadas a uma campanha de promoção da adoção por parte da ditadura militar, que operou como contrapropaganda para frear a “campanha antichilena” na Suécia e recuperar relações internacionais.

    Resumen. Objetivo/Contexto: el presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar las dos cartas pastorales publicadas por el episcopado vasco en 1981 y 1982 en contra de la política autonómica del gobierno de Unión de Centro Democrático (ucd) y examinar su repercusión en los partidos políticos españoles, en los principales diarios de tirada nacional y también su impacto fuera de España. En la primera carta se trataba la relación entre golpismo y terrorismo; y en la segunda se manifestaba una radical oposición a la Ley Orgánica de Armonización del Proceso Autonómico (loapa) promovida conjuntamente por el ejecutivo y por la oposición socialista. Metodología: la metodología se basa en un análisis de contenido de corte cualitativo de la prensa escrita y en el estudio de fuentes de archivo. Originalidad: el texto revisa dos documentos que no han sido analizados de manera monográfica a pesar de los estudios existentes sobre la Iglesia católica y el terrorismo vasco. La polémica política y mediática, nacional e internacional, desatada por su publicación arroja nueva luz sobre las dificultades a las que se enfrentó el último presidente del gobierno de ucd, Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, para articular el nuevo Estado de las autonomías, en medio de la escalada terrorista etarra. Conclusiones: las principales conclusiones revelan que el discurso de los obispos, en sintonía con el nacionalismo vasco, muestra la división que eta había producido en el seno de la sociedad vasca y española, y pone de relieve la dificultad existente para articular un discurso unitario en contra del terror. Abstract. Objective/Context: this article has the goal of analyzing the two pastoral letters published by the Basque episcopate in 1981 and 1982 against the autonomic policy of the Union of the Democratic Center (ucd) government and examines their repercussion in Spanish political parties, in the top national dailies and their impact outside of Spain as well. The first letter dealt with the relation between putschism and terrorism. The second expressed a radical opposition to the Organic Law on the Harmonization of the Autonomy Process (loapa) jointly promoted by the executive and the Socialist opposition. Methodology: the methodology is based on a qualitative content analysis of the written press and in the study of archival sources. Originality: the text reviews two documents that have not been analyzed in a monographic fashion despite existing studies about Catholic Church and Basque terrorism. The national and international political and media controversy unleashed by their publication sheds novel insight on the difficulties the last President of the ucd Government, Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, faced in articulating the new State of Autonomies amid the Etarra terrorist escalation. Conclusions: the main findings reveal that the bishops' discourse, in tune with Basque nationalism, shows the division that eta had produced inside Basque and Spanish society and highlights the difficulty in articulating a unified discourse against terror. Objetivo/Contexto: o objetivo deste artigo é analisar as duas cartas pastorais publicadas pela diocese vasco em 1981 e 1982 contra a política autônoma do governo de Unión de Centro Democrático (ucd) e examinar sua repercussão nos partidos políticos espanhóis, nos principais jornais de tiragem nacional e seu impacto fora da Espanha. Na primeira carta, a relação entre golpismo e terrorismo era tratada; na segunda, manifestava uma radical oposição à Lei Orgânica de Harmonização do Processo Autônomo promovida conjuntamente pelo executivo e pela oposição socialista. Metodologia: a metodologia está baseada em uma análise de conteúdo de corte qualitativo da imprensa escrita e no estudo de fontes de arquivo. Originalidade: o texto revisa dois documentos que ainda não foram revisados de maneira monográfica, apesar dos estudos existentes sobre a Igreja católica e o terrorismo vasco. A polêmica política e midiática, nacional e internacional, desencadeada por sua publicação, traz novos esclarecimentos sobre as dificuldades que o último presidente do governo de ucd, Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, enfrentou para articular o novo Estado das autonomias, em meio da escalada da organização terrorista eta. Conclusões: as principais conclusões revelam que o discurso dos bispos, em consonância com o nacionalismo vasco, mostra a divisão que a eta tinha produzido no seio da sociedade vasca e espanhola, e destaca a dificuldade existente para articular um discurso unitário contra o terrorismo.

    Resumen. Objetivo/Contexto: cuando el franquismo vivía sus últimos años, la onu declaró 1975 el Año Internacional de la Mujer y fijó la ciudad de México como sede del evento. Conscientes de su impacto mundial y como Estado miembro de la onu desde 1955, la dictadura española estuvo presente en dicho foro. Esta investigación estudia la cobertura que la televisión pública española (tve) dio al primer Año Internacional de la Mujer y al congreso de México a través del programa Informe Semanal, el más innovador del franquismo y uno de los más seguidos por la audiencia. Metodología: mediante un análisis de contenido cualitativo de los programas relacionados con la efeméride, las entrevistas en profundidad a periodistas implicados en la elaboración de los contenidos y el apoyo de otras fuentes secundarias, se analiza el enfoque que se ofreció y se dirime si se optó por un discurso cercano a la postura oficial o por otro, antagónico a aquel, más próximo al movimiento feminista, que permitió ejercer una labor férrea de oposición a la dictadura desde la televisión pública. Originalidad: el trabajo permite aproximarse al cambio político y social vivido en España en los setenta desde una perspectiva novedosa que conecta este caso con el papel de la televisión como plataforma de las voces y las agendas feministas. Conclusiones: el Año Internacional impulsó la lucha feminista en España e Informe Semanal se convirtió en una plataforma difusora de conceptualizaciones igualitarias a una audiencia heterogénea y numerosa a la que de otra forma el feminismo no hubiera podido acceder en un contexto dictatorial. Abstract. Objective/Context: during the last years of Franco’s dictatorship, the un declared 1975 International Women's Year and chose Mexico City to host the event. Aware of its world impact as a un member State since 1955, the Spanish dictatorship was present at this forum. This investigation studies the coverage Spanish public television (tve) gave to the first International Women's Year and the Mexico congress through Informe Semanal, Francoist's most innovative show and one of those most watched by the audience. Methodology: through qualitative content analysis of the tv shows related to the event, in-depth interviews of journalists involved in the development of the content, and the support of other secondary sources, we analyze the focus that was offered and determine whether there was a choice made for a narrative close to the official position, or another, opposed to the former, closer to the feminist movement, which allowed exercising strong push-back to the dictatorship from public television. Originality: the work allows approaching the political and social change experienced in Spain in the seventies from an innovative viewpoint that connects this case with the role of television as a platform for feminist voices and agendas. Conclusions: the International Year drove the feminist struggle in Spain and Informe Semanal became a platform that broadcasted egalitarian notions to a heterogeneous and numerous audience, which feminism would not otherwise have reached in a dictatorial context. Objetivo/Contexto: quando o franquismo vivia seus últimos anos, a Organização das Nações Unidas (onu) declarou 1975 o Ano Internacional da Mulher e fixou a cidade do México como sede do evento. Consciente de seu impacto mundial e como Estado-membro da onu desde 1955, a ditadura espanhola esteve presente nesse fórum. Esta pesquisa estuda a cobertura que a televisão pública espanhola (tve) deu ao primeiro Ano Internacional da Mulher e ao congresso do México por meio do programa Informe Semanal, o mais inovador do franquismo e um dos mais seguidos pela audiência. Metodologia: mediante uma análise de conteúdo qualitativa dos programas relacionados com o acontecimento, entrevistas em profundidade a jornalistas envolvidos na elaboração dos conteúdos e apoio de outras fontes secundárias, analisa-se a abordagem oferecida e se se optou por um discurso próximo ao posicionamento oficial ou por outro, antagônico àquele, mais próximo do movimento feminista, que permitiu exercer um trabalho árduo de oposição à ditadura a partir da televisão pública. Originalidade: este trabalho permite aproximar-se da mudança política e social vivida na Espanha nos 1970, sob uma perspectiva nova, que conecta esse caso com o papel da televisão como plataforma das vozes e das agendas feministas. Conclusões: o Ano Internacional impulsionou a luta feminista na Espanha, e o programa Informe Semanal se tornou uma plataforma difusora de conceituações igualitárias a uma audiência heterogênea e numerosa, à qual, de outra forma, o feminismo não teria conseguido atingir em um contexto ditatorial.

    RESUMEN Objetivo/Contexto : El artículo argumenta que los pleitos por matrimonios desiguales en la Provincia de Antioquia, a finales del siglo XVIII, pusieron en evidencia las dimensiones emocionales del Imperio español al mostrar las estrategias en el lenguaje, las prácticas y los dilemas de aquellas personas involucradas en estos procesos judiciales, que buscaban moverse por los límites de un imperio emocional. A través de políticas como la Pragmática Sanción de 1776 y la Real Cédula de 1778, para evitar los matrimonios desiguales en España y en las colonias en América, el Imperio buscaba mantener y vigilar el orden social por medio del control de sentimientos morales como el honor. Metodología: Se hará un análisis sobre cómo funcionaban los mecanismos judiciales y la colaboración eclesiástica en los casos de los pleitos por matrimonios desiguales. Luego se debatirá cómo y quién establecía la desigualdad o igualdad de aquellos que deseaban contraer matrimonio. Y, por último, cómo el concepto del honor estructuraba un imperio emocional, encabezado en la figura del Rey como padre. La investigación se sustenta en el análisis de los pleitos por “matrimonios desiguales” en Antioquia a finales del siglo XVIII y en la bibliografía secundaria sobre la familia, la vida pública y privada de América hispana en el siglo XVIII, y la historiografía de los sentimientos morales. Originalidad: El artículo contribuye a trascender las barreras historiográficas al proponer que los sentimientos morales atraviesan los ámbitos de la política, la economía y la vida pública y privada. Se resalta que el Imperio español de finales del siglo XVIII funcionó a partir de un régimen emocional del honor. Conclusiones: Se concluye que el Imperio español funcionó como un régimen emocional, en el cual el honor fue estructurante de la política y las relaciones entre los súbditos y el Rey. ABSTRACT Objective/Context: The article argues that the lawsuits for unequal marriages in the Province of Antioquia, at the end of the 18th century, highlighted the emotional dimensions of the Spanish Empire by showing the strategies in language, practices, and dilemmas of those involved in these judicial proceedings, who sought to move within the limits of an emotional empire. Through policies such as the Pragmática Sanción of 1776 and the Real Cédula of 1778, to fend off unequal marriages in Spain and the colonies in America, the Empire endeavored to maintain and monitor the social order by controlling moral sentiments such as honor. Methodology: An analysis is made of how judicial mechanisms and ecclesiastical collaboration worked in cases of lawsuits for unequal marriages. Next, we debate how and who established the inequality or equality of those who wanted to marry. The concept of honor structuring an emotional empire, with the figure of the King as the father, brings us to a close. The research stems from an analysis of “unequal marriage” lawsuits in Antioquia at the end of the 18th century and the secondary bibliography about the family, the public and private life of Hispanic America in the 18th century, and the historiography of moral sentiments. Originality: The article contributes to transcending historiographic barriers by proposing that moral sentiments are crosscutting to the spheres of politics, the economy, and public and private life. We highlight that the Spanish Empire at the end of the 18th century functioned on the basis of an emotional regime of honor. Conclusions: We conclude that the Spanish Empire operated as an emotional regime, in which honor was the structuring element of the politics and the relations between the subjects and the King. RESUMO Objetivo/Contexto: este artigo argumenta que as ações judiciais por casamentos desiguais na Província de Antioquia, Colômbia, no final do século XVIII, evidenciaram as dimensões emocionais do Império espanhol ao mostrarem as estratégias na linguagem, práticas e dilemas das pessoas envolvidas nos processos judiciais, as quais procuravam se mover nos limites de um império emocional. Por meio de políticas como a Pragmática Sanção de 1776 e a Real Cédula de 1778, para evitar casamentos desiguais na Espanha e nas colônias na América, o Império buscava manter e vigiar a ordem social mediante o controle de sentimentos morais como a honra. Metodologia: é feita uma análise sobre como os mecanismos judiciais e a colaboração eclesiástica nas ações judiciais por casamentos desiguais. Em seguida, é debatido como e quem estabelecia a desigualdade ou igualdade dos que desejavam se casar. Por último, como o conceito de honra estruturava um império emocional, liderado pela figura do Rei como pai. A pesquisa está apoiada na análise das ações judiciais por “casamentos desiguais” na Antioquia no final do século XVIII e na bibliografia secundária sobre a família, a vida pública e privada da América hispânica no século XVIII, e a historiografia dos sentimentos morais. Originalidade: este artigo contribui para transcender as barreiras historiográficas ao propor que os sentimentos morais atravessam os âmbitos da política, da economia e da vida pública e privada. É ressaltado que o Império espanhol do final do referido século funcionou a partir de um regimente emocional da honra. Conclusões: conclui-se que o império espanhol funcionou como um regime emocional, no qual a honra foi estruturante da política e das relações entre os súditos e o Rei.

    Objetivo/Contexto: Los conflictos sociales provocados por la contaminación atmosférica dan lugar a un intenso debate sobre la salud en las cuencas de minerales no ferrosos europeas y norteamericanas durante el siglo XIX. Los especialistas contemporáneos los consideraban un problema de salud pública porque afectaban a toda la comunidad minera, pues englobaban lo que hoy denominamos riesgos ambientales y profesionales. Este artículo analiza la regulación institucional y las soluciones científicas y técnicas aplicadas a partir de un estudio de casos seleccionados. Sin embargo, en la primera mitad del siglo XX los problemas de salud asociados a los humos mineros evolucionan hasta convertirse en una cuestión de higiene industrial circunscrita, por ello, al ámbito laboral. En esa evolución tiene mucho que ver el papel que desempeñan los distintos actores en juego, particularmente las grandes corporaciones. Metodología: Esta investigación de carácter comparativo en el tiempo y en el espacio se aborda tanto a partir de un análisis de bibliografía actual como de fuentes contemporáneas. Originalidad: La contaminación atmosférica en la mina desencadenó un proceso de innovaciones institucionales, científicas y técnicas estrechamente relacionadas entre sí. El debate suscitado se internacionalizó, pues se extendió desde finales del siglo XIX desde las grandes cuencas europeas hasta las americanas. Conclusiones: La controversia sobre los humos dividió profundamente las cuencas de minerales no ferrosos de Europa, Estados Unidos y Canadá, y la ciencia sirvió de apoyo a las medidas institucionales y técnicas implementadas. En ese proceso, las empresas mineras tuvieron la capacidad de adaptar con éxito la ciencia a sus necesidades, en especial desde finales del siglo XIX. Objective/context: Social conflicts caused by air pollution gave rise to an intense debate around health in the European and North American non-ferrous mineral basins during the 19th century. Contemporary scholars classified it as a public health problem, since it ultimately affected the entire mining community, encompassing what we know today as environmental and occupational hazards. This article uses selected case studies to analyze institutional regulations, and the scientific and technical solutions that were applied in response to them. However, in the first half of the twentieth century, health problems associated with smelter smoke evolved to become an industrial hygiene issue and were therefore limited to the field of industrial relations. Institutional, scientific and technical factors behind this change are closely related to the role of the social agents concerned, particularly large corporations. Methodology: This research, which is comparative from a temporal and spatial perspective, relies on an analysis of both current literature and contemporary sources. Originality: Air pollution derived from mining activities triggered a process of closely interrelated institutional, scientific and technical innovations. In the late nineteenth century, the ensuing debate became international, spreading from European to American mining basins. Conclusions: The smelter smoke controversy deeply divided the non-ferrous mineral basins of Europe, the United States and Canada, and science provided the foundation for the institutional and technical measures implemented to address it. In that process, particularly since the late nineteenth century, mining companies developed the capacity to successfully adapt the science to their needs.

    [ES] El artículo estudia el concepto continental de indio difundido por los indigenistas que a mediados del siglo XX participan en la configuración del campo indigenista americano. Originalidad: Contra la idea común de que indio es una categoría colonial, plantea la hipótesis de que el concepto que se consolida en el siglo XX sería el resultado de una configuración típicamente contemporánea. Metodología: Se fundamenta en un análisis de fuentes primarias impresas inexploradas, según un enfoque transnacional que destaca la participación de indigenistas de distinta procedencia y origen en la búsqueda de una noción continental de indio. Conclusiones: El análisis muestra cómo el aporte indigenista refuerza un proceso de singularización y abstracción de este concepto, enfatizando además la adscripción temporal del indio y una historia de dominación y explotación con efectos hasta el presente. A pesar de que el indio americano se conforma gracias a elementos típicamente contemporáneos, los indigenistas defienden la idea de que es una “categoría colonial”, determinada por una herencia colonial (con efecto en el “carácter”) y por la persistencia de una situación/relación colonial. Esta resignificación indigenista representaría un importante legado para desarrollos posteriores, al establecer la experiencia de colonización como elemento imprescindible para definir al indio [EN] The article studies the continental concept of Indian disseminated by the indigenistas who, in the mid-twentieth century, were shaping a Pan-American indigenista field. Originality: Against the common idea that Indian is a colonial category, it suggests that the twentieth century characterization of the Indian was a typically modern creation. Methodology: It is based on an analysis of unexplored printed primary sources, from a transnational approach that highlights the participation of indigenistas of different backgrounds and origins in the search for a continental notion of Indian. Conclusions: The analysis shows how the indigenista contribution reinforces an ongoing process of singularization and abstraction of this concept, also emphasizing the temporary ascription of the Indian and a history of domination and exploitation with effects up to the present day. Although this “Indian of the Americas” is shaped by typically modern elements, indigenistas defend the idea that it is a “colonial category”, determined by a colonial heritage (with effects on “character”) and by the persistence of a colonial situation/relationship.
