In our study group on the subject, we developed our own approach of the concept thanks to the input from many authors who have used it, as well as from our empirical findings in research. The aim of this essay is, first, to discuss emotional communities and explain the gaps we found in some of the foundational works on the concept; second, to analyse the ways that our empirical data offered insights that helped widen up the concept for our research. Finally, it concludes with an argument of how this approach could serve to enhance understanding of the collective situated knowledge that sustain people’s actions of transformation within specific contexts.

The background section shows that attention has been paid to Spanish words used in English from a lexical point of view, but scarcely regarding phonology. Furthermore, the few existing studies of loanword phonology do not deal in depth with Spanish and English as an example of crosslinguistic contact. Therefore, this paper aims at contributing to the explanation of the phonological adaptations occurring in Spanish words when integrated into English, and therefore the conditions of English phonology that operate in the process of perception and production of Spanish loanwords. In doing so, two areas of interest are analysed: vowel phonemes and consonant phonemes, mainly in relation to their distinctive features and the distribution of units and also considering related phenomena such as phonetic and orthographical factors.

Recognition and identification of traits such as gender, age or location based on text data can help to improve different marketing strategies. This type of technology has been widely discussed regarding documents taken from social media. However, its methods have been poorly studied using data with a more formal structure, where there is no access to emoticons, mentions, and other linguistic phenomena that are only present in social media. This paper proposes the use of recurrent and convolutional neural networks and a transfer learning strategy to recognize two demographic traits, i.e., gender and language variety, in documents written in informal and formal language. The models were tested in two different databases consisting of tweets (informal) and call-center conversations (formal). Accuracies of up to 75 % and 68 % were achieved in the recognition of gender in documents with informal and formal language, respectively. Moreover, regarding language variety recognition, accuracies of 92 % and 72 % were obtained in informal and formal text scenarios, respectively. The results indicate that, in relation to the traits considered in this paper, it is possible to transfer the knowledge from a system trained on a specific type of expressions to another one where the structure is completely different and data are scarcer.

For this, I take a naturally-occurring metaphor seriously, during my ethnographic passage through this institution between August and December of 2019. According to this metaphor, a file is sacred because it is a public document. I ask how a technology of legal knowledge -an inscription- such as the file becomes a sacred object in the hands of its holders. For this, I focus on the practices of touching tutela files in their reviewing. I analyse how the sacred speaks of two different ways of touching and relating with the file: as a working document and as the history of a case. One in which writing and touch are part of the business-as-usual of the Court, and the other in which writing and the touch on files are restricted and forbidden in their circulation. I focus on the transformation of one version of the file into another, in which the Court and the file become a macro actor (a Wholly-other entity), while other actors are absent from their representational practices. Thus, I show how the file organizes the Court and how, in the same movement, it becomes touchy and touching: something delicate that must be protected, being endowed with the risky capacity to record everything in its path. In this, the file is also granted the capacity to touch, producing an emotional witnessing of the Court.
