Abstract: The 'Management Platform for the Cultural Heritage of eastern Cuba' was developed in collaboration among the Universidad de Oriente and the University of Antwerp with the support of the VlirUos Program. It shows the results of research carried out by professors from the Universidad de Oriente. In its content there are documents on the built heritage of the city of Santiago de Cuba, the documentary heritage of notarial documents from the five eastern provinces, the audiovisual heritage with documentaries produced in eastern Cuba from 1986 -2016, as well as other documents that support the heritage values of the Universidad de Oriente. Its development has a multidisciplinary approach, it is flexible and secure, it facilitates the relationship among content and cross-searches, it allows the management of geographic information. From all the stored information, statistical reports are created that support decision-making about preventive conservation and the valorization of cultural heritage.

Abstract: This chapter develops the differences in the approach to the Chinese population in the Philippines of the Spaniards and the inhabitants of the archipelago in the 19th-20th centuries. First, a review of the literature is developed highlighting recent works that have approached the relevance of the Chinese population in Philippine identity. This is followed by a brief historical context that focuses on the various expulsions of Chinese from Philippine territory during Spanish colonization and the literary and essayistic reactions to Chinese immigration to the Philippines in the nineteenth century. From there we switch across to look at the view that Spanish-language Filipino writers reflect of the Chinese around the Philippine revolution and during the American occupation, which quite changes the Spanish perspective, and shows a much kinder view of what is a people, in the opinion of Teodoro M. Kalaw or M. L. Quezon, much closer to the Filipino than the Western peoples that had invaded the archipelago up to that time. The chapter concludes by outlining some lines of future research and highlighting some studies being carried out on the subject.

Abstract: In the 1920s, after the ravages of the War of a Thousand Days and the blow that Panama's territorial loss meant for Colombia, the country's intelligentsia feared for the unity of the nation in the midst of a social context characterized by population and cultural heterogeneity. In such a scenario, in Colombia the old colonial debate on the geographic and racial determinism that weighed on the man of South America was revived, articulating the possibility of national progress with the imaginary of a predominantly white and Andean population. At that time, some voices pointed to the Antioquia region as an example called to lead the social and economic progress of the country, due to its mountainous nature and the supposed little miscegenation of its population where the Hispanic racial element stood out. In 1928, just at the historical moment in which identity discourse was a major concern for the intelligentsia of the time, the writer Tomás Carrasquilla published La Marquesa de Yolombó, a novel set in a small town in Antioquia in the middle of the 18th century that offered the readers of his time the recreation of a colonial past that projected to the immediate present a white, Catholic and Andean identity consciousness, excluding from the identity imaginaries the historical presence of Amerindian and Afro-descendant human groups. In this doctoral thesis, we will analyze the images in La Marquesa de Yolombó of the Creole response, from a regional perspective, to European ideas about geographic and racial determinism, a response that, more than a nationalist defense, consisted of an apology for symbolic capital attributed to the white race and to the defense of the Andean heights as appropriate environmental zones for the development of civilization. We will also take into account Carrasquilla's aesthetic ideas against literary modernism, since his rejection of foreign literary currents promoted the creation of an autochthonous literature, with regional colors, which strengthened the Antioquia identity process. Supported by the historical discipline and literary studies, we will propose La Marquesa de Yolombó as the foundational novel of Antioquia, to identify in Tomás Carrasquilla's literary Yolombó the foundational elements of the Antioquia identity construction, the author's “small homeland”, a region that early 20th century embodied the hopes of national progress of the Colombian intelligentsia.

This research analyses European research projects funded through the European Union's Framework Programmes, whose main thematic area is cultural heritage. It therefore aims to understand what kind of projects have been funded within the discipline and what their thematic evolution has been over time, using data analysis and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to extract information from the main sources of information and process it in order to shed light on the research question: what themes, within the field of cultural heritage, do European research projects address? Starting from the political and legal context in which these projects are funded, we will develop a methodology to identify, process and analyse the data associated with European cultural heritage research projects, a methodology that will help us to analyse and describe the characteristics and trends of the projects as a whole. We will conclude the research by briefly referencing current policies that may influence the definition of project's topics in the field of cultural heritage in the near future.
