The implementation of the autonomy Law in the early 2001 in Indonesia haslead to the emergence of petty kings in several regions. However, the diversityof the local political history will be influenced or influence the ways in whichregional autonomy are practiced by local elites. By taking the political historyof Bone from 1811 to 1946 as a case study, this dissertation shows that thecurrent petty kings have long been maintained by decendants of aristocraticelite in Bone. There are three interrelated factors that make the aristocratsin Bone are able to survive in maintaining their power until now; namelypolitical marriages, social networks, and patron-client relationship. The colonial government failed to understand three important factors embedded in the long political history of Bone. This lack of knowledge about history and political culture of Bone has led to ongoing conflict between Bone'saristocrats and the colonial government. By using local sources,Lontara andcolonial sources, the dissertation attempts to provide balanced analysis of thedynamics of local political structures of Bone from the period 1811 to 1946.

Poetry for Seamus Heaney has an ‘archaeological' function. Much of Heaney's poetry engages with the cultural amnesia that the atmosphere of sectarian violence in Northern Ireland threatens with. Against this distortion of historical memory by contemporary events and also by the forces of globalization, Heaney works with the belief inherited from Wordsworth that poetry ‘enshrine[s] the spirit of the past / For future restoration.' Rather than the factual correction of distortions, poetry, hence, is more intent at preserving the ‘spirit' of the past – which is not to say that facts are treated as redundant, but that in poetry facts lead us to the spirit of the past. With reference to specifically poems from the collection The Haw Lantern, the paper shall enquire as to what form of memory does poetry then engage with. This is spiritual archaeology since poetry is conceived as response towards spirits of the past, like that of Diogenes or the mud vision. Poetry is the call of responsibility when the past is being ‘dissipated in news'. Memory in poetry is also spiritual in the sense that it has a spiritual purpose – it preserves the sense of justice and a promise for future within a reality of violence. The possibility of ‘restoration' is held out by a past that is itself strung with violent incidences. The paper shall interrogate poetry's ambivalent dealings with memory and violence that occur in the process. Poetry and literature in general, we will see, shares a radical relation with history, but a radicalization that is politically an antidote of that other form of radicalization that potentially leads to terrorism. The paper shall discuss where these two radical trajectories concerning history vitally differ.

Medan city which is very dynamic is currently experiencing rapid urban growth. The growth of the city of Medan has undergone a long journey and the process left a note in the form of history is an important part. When viewing the current development, tourism is growing in line with rising incomes and quality of life of the global community, which traveled a basic need. Heritage tourism is a favourite one. The phenomenon should be used to increase the number of tourists in the city of Medan, while preserving the history of the city of Medan. Site location which is located at Jalan Sutomo right behind Sambu Market has great potential to be developed into a tourist area history. This area is a witness to the history of the involvement of the city of Medan in the fight for independence and was once the center of Medan. Revitalization of the area needed to maintain the legacy of history. Theme that raised in this project is "Beauty of History" that accentuate the beauty of the history and create a harmonious relationship between history and modern life today through landscape and buildings. Http://dx.doi.org/10.17014/ijog.vol2no3.20075Studies of stratigraphy on Quaternary deposits in the southwest region of Lake Tondano, Tomohon Regency, South Sulawesi, revealed six facies of deposition environments. These facies consist of Tondano tuff, young volcanic eruption, lake, sand lake, tidal lake, and swamp deposits. Based on the correlation of the lateral and vertical variation of the Quaternary deposits, three unit of the depositional facies were recognized (UFP I-III). Each of the depositional facies unit is characterized by variation of the depositional environment changes which were controlled by tectonics, and was followed by the activity of Sonder main fault. The Sonder main fault activity, which controlled the depositional environment changes was recorded as an UFP. Probably, the character of this stratigraphy could be called as cyclo-tectonostratigraphy. The study was based on analyses of sedimentology and stratigraphy of six borehole information obtained along the E-NW traverse which is approximately parallel to the shorelines of the southwestern part of Lake Tondano. The penetration of the borehead varied from 1.20 to 8.7 m.

The Biak battle was part of World War II and fought by the United States Army and the Japanese Army in 1944. Out of the 24,000 soldiers from both sides involved in the war, 6,600 were killed; 6,100 of them were the Japanese soldiers. Remnants of war and remains of the fallen soldiers scattered in post-war Biak. The battlefield drew more tourists' interest for the dark tourism experience. Remnants of war became valuable tangible items while war history and mystical cave atmosphere became intangible items. The study aimed at exploring issues in importance and preservation of tangible and intangible in support to post-war Biak tourism. It turned out that the post-war tangible and intangible heritage in Biak require better handling and management in support to post-war Biak tourism sustainability.
