    Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most prevalent malignant tumor in head and neck region. Platinum drug resistance limits the clinical application of chemotherapy regardless of medical development. The aim of our study is to identify cisplatin-resistant genes which can be used as new therapeutic targets and investigate the functional mechanism of OSCC chemoresistance.The OSCC Cal27 and HSC4 cisplatin-resistant cell lines were constructed to screen the differential genes/transcripts expression. GO, KEGG and GSEA were performed to reveal the relevant signaling pathways. Alternative splicing (AS) software rMATs was applied to explore AS events in chemoresistance. R package and TIMER tools were used to evaluate the linear correlation between CD44 and immune cell subpopulations. The co-culture model of dendritic cells (DCs) and OSCC cells was applied to explore the effect of CD44 on immune microenvironment and cisplatin resistance.Our results showed that CD44 was differentially expressed in cisplatin-resistant OSCC cells. Through bioinformatics prediction and experimental verification, we confirmed that CD44 occurring AS was involved in tumor progression and cisplatin resistance. Moreover, CD44 could further enhance the cisplatin resistance of OSCC by activating DCs, making CD44 to be a potential intervention target. We also identified DC as a new target for platinum drugs to stimulate the growth of OSCC.Our findings not only make it possible to explore new therapeutic methods, such as CD44 inhibitors or antisense oligonucleotides, but also provide insights into the new mechanisms of cisplatin resistance to chemotherapy.

    Our daily life is surrounded by textual information. Nowadays, the automatic collection of textual information becomes possible owing to the drastic improvement of scene text detectors and recognizer. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a large-scale survey of co-occurrence between visual objects (such as book and car) and scene texts with a large image dataset and a state-of-the-art scene text detector and recognizer. Especially, we focus on the function of "label" texts, which are attached to objects for detailing the objects. By analyzing co-occurrence between objects and scene texts, it is possible to observe the statistics about the label texts and understand how the scene texts will be useful for recognizing the objects and vice versa. The advent of ballooning in 1783 set off a frenzied public reaction in England and France, generating both hope and fear among the populace. This article argues that Elizabeth Inchbald’s play The Mogul Tale serves to at once harness and contain the instability triggered by balloonomania, staging the new technology before its audience in order to palliate their fears. The article closes by arguing that the end of the eighteenth century saw the emergence of scientific discourse as a decidedly public concept and that plays such as Inchbald’s constituted an essential element of the construction of this movement.

    Authors: Angel L. Roman;

    En este artículo se estudian las interrelaciones entre la encomienda de Guambía y la unidad de producción Belalcázar, con el fin de analizar, por una parte, la participación del tributo de encomienda –permutado por fuerza de trabajo indígena sujeta asalariada– dentro de la dotación de factores de la unidad Belalcázar; fenómeno que generó 98.15% de la producción de la unidad en seis años. Por otra parte, a la luz del caso de Guambía, se investigan las transformaciones del modelo de encomienda dentro de la provincia y periodo. Transformaciones determinadas por cambios productivos regionales, y certificadas por normativas regias implementadas in situ. Finalmente, se concluirá sobre las dependencias de estas unidades ante el mecanismo de conmutación, dentro de un modelo económico en tránsito, específicamente frente a la metamorfosis de la encomienda de Guambía durante los siglos XVI y XVII.

    The Central Iberian Zone presents an exceptional geological interest for its great exploration potential for a number of elements including gold. Metallogeny within the area is mainly related to regional metamorphism and late magmatic activity during the Variscan orogeny. In 2013-2014 junior company Mineral Exploration Network Ltd. has carried out an extensive prospecting field work with a primarily view to discover Au within the area around Logrosan granitic pluton (Caceres, Spain). The main output of the survey was a localization and presorting of potentially mineralized territory unites at the extensive spatial scale (more than 240 sq. km). The known gold showings in the Central Iberian zone are considered to be synorogenic with a mainly metamorphic fluid source. As arsenic commonly forms widespread geochemical haloes near practically all orogenic gold deposits and appears to be easily and credibly measured by express analytical methods (XRF), it was selected as one of the major pathfinder elements for the initial prospecting. Designed geochemical survey allowed delineating potential target area with contrastive complex As-W-Zn-Pb anomaly in soil sediments and significant quantities of gold particles in heavy mineral concentrates. Placer gold particles analyses and their typomorphic features confirmed nearby primary gold source existence. The suggested scope of work proved to be efficient for assessing mineralization potential and selecting perspective target areas for a detailed drilling.

    Abstract Currently advanced driver-assistance systems develop actively, which allow to signal to the driver about danger of collision of vehicles, necessary braking or changes of motion parameters of the car to prevent dangerous situations and accidents. The effectiveness of advanced driver-assistance systems from the parameters of their work. Therefore, the actual task is to set the optimal parameters of advanced driver-assistance systems. The values of such parameters in general can be both statistical and independent of the current road situation, and dynamic and depend on the current road situation. This problem cannot be solved without modeling dangerous situations, creating models of motion and collision risks, the results of which can be given recommendations for setting the parameters of the advanced driver-assistance systems. The aim of the work is statistical modeling collision vehicles on the unregulated crossroads and the evaluation dependency of probability collision from the parameters of the road situation. An analytical modeling of the movement of vehicles at the crossroads was used and a mathematical model of their collisions was built. With the help of statistical modeling a probability of their collision with different parameters road situation was rated. Received result can be used to configuration parameters management vehicle advanced driver-assistance systems, including dynamic.

    Our daily life is surrounded by textual information. Nowadays, the automatic collection of textual information becomes possible owing to the drastic improvement of scene text detectors and recognizer. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a large-scale survey of co-occurrence between visual objects (such as book and car) and scene texts with a large image dataset and a state-of-the-art scene text detector and recognizer. Especially, we focus on the function of "label" texts, which are attached to objects for detailing the objects. By analyzing co-occurrence between objects and scene texts, it is possible to observe the statistics about the label texts and understand how the scene texts will be useful for recognizing the objects and vice versa.   • Authors: John Robbins;
